Adventures Artist Reflects Upon Team Aqua and Magma

Pokemon Adventures

The artist for the Pokemon Adventures manga, Satoshi Yamamoto, tweeted on his Twitter account his reflections of the creation of the Pokemon Adventures series. This mostly involved the creation of character designs, the plot and other tidbits of information.

An editor for a tumblr page and David have complied and translated the tweets involving Team Aqua and Team Magma in honor of VIZ Media releasing the Ruby and Sapphire Saga in print. These translated tweets from Yamamoto discuss the planning of the villainous teams of Hoenn and explained their reasoning as to why they decided to portray the characters the way that they did.

“In my brain, racked by sleep deprivation and thoughts of deadlines: ‘Huh? I don’t want to use the word ‘bad guy.’ I really hate that old duality of ‘good and bad.’ Can you define Team Aqua and Team Magma as ‘bad’ to begin with?’ I got stuck in this loop of thoughts and became unable to set dialog in the speech bubbles.”
