Palila was very well informed which was a welcome change to the usual level of titillating conversations with Knuckles. Oberon knew right away that Palila would be a valuable asset. Having seen her battle he couldn't help wonder who would win a one on one battle.

"Yeah, Knuckles is the big guy who enjoys using his fist to solve all of his problems. So yeah, I'll do what I have to avoid him going anywhere near that psychopath. For now, I'll cross my fingers that we aren't unfortunate enough to come across that guy I'm not sure even our friendship will be enough to stop him from getting himself killed." Oberon sighed

He stayed focused on the path ahead as they walked.

"Whatever the guys deal was he probably saved your a**es. " He paused

" Again best we dont bring up any of that to Knuckles."

As Palila and Oberon reached the route the wonderful smell caught their attention. Palila's response to Oberson offer
"Laws are for losers, anyway." She commented

made him laugh.

" Very true but we work smart, not hard. If we just broke the law freely whenever we wanted we would draw a lot of unnecessary attention. Crime is fine and all but the mission comes first."


When the others were in sight. Oberon paused.

" You see those guys blocking the road. Undercovers." He said to Palila

"Before we regroup with the others were going to have a little. We need a way to distract the undercovers so we can clear a path through."


Oberon pulled out a pokeball.
" If you can distract them enough to leave there post I have an idea."


Palila and Oberon were out of eye sight for both the guards and the team.

The tall kid answered that his name was Luke. He also asked "You and Oberon, did you come here through a wormhole like us? Or are you from here?".

Knuckles replied "Well Luke, me and Oberon have been here for years, we practically grew up together." Knuckles stared at the kid, he had such a 'I'm bored' look on his face all the time, he wondered why, but didn't press him further on it.

Instead he turned to the girl in the weird uniform and the kid who had tried to sneak away in the fields and said "So... what is your names?"

Palila beamed. Acceptance! Hooray! She was very pleased to have been allowed into the group- although immediately she became skeptical of whether they had truly accepted her, or whether these guys were just meaningless grunts who didn't have that power anyway. She thought about the uniform in her bag- no, they probably really were allowed to recruit people.

When Oberon mentioned distracting the cops, Palila tilted her head. They hadn't yet approached the rest of the group, who seemed to be chatting among themselves.
"You guys aren't committing any crimes, why worry? What are they gonna do?" She didn't know about their fake trainer ID cards, and was pretty sure most of the trainers weren't in galactic uniform at all. Except one- who was in, like, a team rocket fangirl uniform? Weird.
Palila frowned slightly, remembering that it was possible they already did some crimes before she arrived- especially if at least two of them were involved in the lake incident.

She let out her chatot, who plopped onto the ground in front of her and looked up, seemingly amused.
It copied her voice.
"You guys aren't committing any crimes-" It chirruped happily.
Palila grinned. Oh, perfect.
She tucked the Chatot hidden under one arm and ran up to the rest of group, not knowing why Oberon had hung back, but remembering seeing them all arrive at the same time and knowing they were his group.

"Hey dudes, I need you to have a little radio play with me-" She turned to anyone in the trainer group paying attention, trying to catch all these strangers eyes one at a time, then whispered.

"I'm gonna get Chatot to record our voices, oh no! Someone is being robbed! And then it is gonna go off behind the trees and do a playback. Should get these guys attention, and if they're cops, they'll have to respond to a robbery, which means they'll chase Chatot and then hopip off the path." She finished laying out the plan, then pursed her lips. This might need a few more details to be convincing.
"We'll also need someones pokemon to go out with Chatot- a pokemon who is good at shaking bushes and trees, kicking rocks and stones, and is a fast runner." She looked around at the group, frowning slightly "And possibly a pokemon that knows confusion, in case our pokemon get apprehended."

They were already out of the vocal range of the two suspicious men (which is why she could even tell them to do a distraction) so running a little voice-play would just look like a group of trainers chatting.
Palila shifted her Chatot and leaned in to it, putting on a little-old-lady kind of voice. It was playtime!
"Oh, what a lovely day, what lovely trees and honey smell- oh! Oh no! Who are you?"
She surreptitiously moved her chatot in to the centre of the group of trainers to get someone else to make up the next lines, then moved it back to herself after they had said something.
"Oh dear! But I'm alone! What do you want with me?"
Once again, a gap for someone else to play a different character.
"No! Help! You can't do this! Somebody help!"

As long as everyone in this team co-operated, she was satisfied to put the plan into action.

Before the two could answer, the girl who had been soaking wet and talking with Oberon earlier came running over, ranting about some terrible plan she had to distract the two men blocking the route. When she finished explaining the plan, she began making weird voices that her Pokemon copied.

Knuckles could see the two men blocking the road staring at them now, so he held up a hand and gave the girl an annoyed look as he said "Shut up! No one is going to do your awful plan! Now where is Oberon?"

Tension filled the air as the three newcomers trudged reluctantly behind Knuckles. The slouch-guy, Luke, made smalltalk, and Pat and the sharp-guy kept quiet. Maybe some of it was contemplative silence, but Pat's silence was out of bitterness. Without Oberon at least trying to be agreeable the whole thing really fell apart, even if Oberon was really sus. Following that guy as a boss was dubious, but following Knuckles -- she wasn't going to be able to fake enough respect for that to last.

"Duh, duh, me not know name!" She really hated this guy.

Pat growled and pulled her hat brim down to hide her expression. She'd let the smart-mouth answer first. It was all she could do to keep from snapping at him.
And so they stood in silence... but only for a moment, because the drowned meowth from the PokeCenter had come up behind them, and engaged them like old friends.

"Hey dudes, I need you to have a little radio play with me-"

Seeing her dry definitely made a better impression. Still, a wild card, Pat thought, if this is the kind of difference a towel and a change of clothes makes. Still a charity case... Probably easy to break down and rebuild.
Mentally scanning the new girl left Pat only half-listening to the plan, and then she pulled a bird out of her armpit and started doing improv comedy.

"Oh no! Who are you?"

Pat struggled for lines on the fly. "Uh... hey, the old man's payment is overdue," the little music note Pokemon hopped to face her, "so, I guess, uhh... you're coming with us!" She did a bad impression of a dumb jerk - luckily, she had a great reference.

"Shut up! No one is going to do your awful plan! Now where is Oberon?"

Everyone clammed up for a second, and Pat shot Knuckles a dirty look, turning red in the face.

She shouted, "RAAH!" an outburst which didn't mean anything but probably conveyed her feelings pretty well. Then, still running on instinct and adrenaline, she grabbed the new girl around the wrist and stomped off toward the two men ahead up on the path.

Palila was nodding along to the girl who almost managed to step up to the plate and think of some lines on the fly, but then everything stopped as Knuckles intervened. Palila took a step back, dropping the Chatot (which took flight, and actually flew off back towards Floaroma town, whoops! It was a little too high a level for her to control, so it appeared to just go off to do its own thing). She balled her fists, glaring up at him. Hell, if nobody in her last team would listen to her, if not even her POKEMON would listen to her, maybe she would have to MAKE people and pokemon listen to her. She was SO ready to throw down the gauntlet and battle this guy right here, right now. Stable emotions be damned, she had survived a Gyarados already today she was sure she could survive this punk.

At that point, the girl next to her shouted, and grabbed her wrist. Pulled off balance by the sideways movement, she was tugged along towards the undercover cops. She shouted over her shoulder and flipped Knuckles the bird.
"Oberon sent me, meathead! Come fight me, you towering pile of trash!"
Well whatever, every part of the plan was now a failure.
Palila was too angry to care.

She snatched her hand back out from the other girls grip once they were halfway to the suspicious looking lingering men, and sized up the other girl, wondering if Pat was also new to this dimension. That would explain why she would go to police- heck, Palila was all for going to the police multiple times so far. This was the first time somebody else seemed to suggest it, at least with body language. Her eyes widened slightly (and she wondered if this was probably the worst possible time to be secretly wearing Team Galactics uniform under her coat).
"I'm Rae" She introduced herself quickly, and put her hand back into Pats "Fine, you take the lead."
Maybe there was another plan brewing, maybe it was going to be chaos. Heck, maybe she was about to be bodyslammed from behind by an enraged teenage boy. Whatever was happening, it was going to go down quickly- she felt her adrenalin rise.

Pat took the lead.

'Cause you know, there would always be bullies.

But Pat knew how to deal with them.

It wasn't the smartest plan, but it hadn't even been a plan at all. Pat was acting on emotion alone -- but she knew how to get what she wanted.

"Hey Mistah?" Pat called to the men, still a few good yards up the route, "can ya help us? We're in big trouble here!" She fell into an accent like her dad's -- Pat wasn't great with accents, but she'd heard this one enough to sound natural to anybody who hadn't.

"I'm Patricia, and this is Ray. And we're penpals with that big guy and we came on a real long to meet up and we were havin' a battle back in town but then this guy says he wants to show us somethin' cool and, ok, so we followed him, but then he says we gotta stay there and wait for his friends and he starts yellin' at us! And, um..." Pat wiped her eye, where some sand must have gotten, "we can't run away 'cause... 'cause all my Pokemon are K.O.'d from the battles and he's too big to fight!"

As her emotional momentum slowed, Pat just felt shaky and drained. She sniffled despite herself, and looked up at the men. Now within mere feet of the supposed plainclothes officers, she pleaded weakly, "can you call the cops or somethin'?"

Palila hadn't listened to word Oberon said. Instead, she chose to head out to meet the others and openly discuss a plan to distract the cops with the others. The only problem was she hadn't realized that Knuckles the enforcer of the group had no reason to listen to her. As he told her to shut up which led to Palila challenging Knuckles. Pat chimed in but the situation only escalated as the scene had caught the attention of the undercover cops.

At first, they didn't make a move subtly signaling to each other. After an awkward moment of silence, however, trainers that were meandering around the route started to close in.


" We're going to need you all to show us ID."


" No quick movements."


" We need to move this off the road. If Team Galactic sees us this will ruin days of survivance."



" The man said get out your ids. Do it now!"


The situation had gotten intense and there was clearly no way to know how many officers were nearby.

In one instance Palila had gone from useful to possible liability. Oberon was a patient calculated trainer so instead of making a move to meet up with the others, he waited for an outburst of some kind to cause the distraction for him. It didn't take long for that to happen. As the cops closed in on the team. Oberon moved the treeline casually staying out of sight. He made his way to the van letting Oliver jump into the driver seat window first to check for any other officers. Once it was clear they were all dealing with the group. Oberon walked over and pressed the door to unlock the back of the van. He was shocked to see so much video surveillance. Using the Galactic Poketech Device he took pictures to note all the locations of the cameras. Then he swept the van for any flash drives scoping up a portable hard drive. If had known more about computers he could have done more to mess with the cops but alas he needed to settle with this.

" Silk short this station out." He smiled letting his little Joltik uses its power to send a surge of electricity through the recording terminal.

He jumped out of the back of the van closing the door and again cauasully walked off until he was at a safe distance.

(Oberons part is taking place as the group is confornted. Ill wait until I see reponse to move on.)

The two men on the route looked at Pat and Palila coldly with suspicion, not compassion.

" We're going to need you all to show us ID."

She went to her bag for her trainer card. "Uh, ok. It's from out of region so--"

The other worker came around so the girls were between him and his partner. "No quick movements."

"Um... w-what? No, we just need help, we're in danger!"

Then, the other trainers started to close in and tried to surround them.

"We need to move this off the road. If Team Galactic sees us this will ruin days of survivance."

"The man said get out your ids. Do it now!"

"What the shuckle!? Oh arceus, they're all in cahoots!"

Pat's bogus story was quickly coming true. Where she was from black market Pokemon trading was her heritage, albeit with Rocket in control it was a thing of the past -- there was no table to deal atop of or under. But she hadn't expected a brush with kidnappers -- or human trafficking. Pat added it up in her head: she was in a foreign region surrounded by creepy strangers who all wanted either her trust, or simply to get her. Yeah.

No.

Pat grabbed for Palila and took off running again, back the way they had come, toward Knuckles and the others, then past them and back toward Floaroma town.

Palila nodded along with Pats story- it was close enough to the truth anyway, since the big guy probably did take Pat out here, and didn't seem in a good mood. She didn't really expect it was something worth calling the cops over, but when she looked down at the 5'4 girl, and then back over at the boy scraping 6 foot with two other suspicious dudes taller than both of them, she realized that the situation really COULD be a scary one. Weird, she hadn't even considered that- maybe it was because she was so used to traveling with Sophie, who just seemed like a relatively nonthreatening stressed out teenage girl.

As other trainers started to close in and ask for ID, Palila frowned. People in this dimension were obsessed with ID cards! In her Alola, people could literally surf from one island to another without being asked so much as a name- whereas here, she felt like she was being asked for ID three times a day.
Palila played the indignation to Pats confusion.
"Why do we need to show ID to you random men? Who do you think you are?"
That being said, there were now four fully grown adult men approaching them, not one of them had mentioned actually being police officers at all, and the aura was very threatening.
Palila put her one hand slowly into her jacket, squeezing a pokeball nervously. Ok, this was a little scary. Maybe she would have been better off trying to fight Knuckles instead of this.

At that point, Pat seemed to have decided to get the heck outta dodge, and yanked on her arm again, shouting some pokemon cursewords. Palila burst into a well-practiced run too, feeling a sick crawling sensation up her spine as she turned her back on the men trying to surround them. Maybe they had nets. Maybe they had hidden guns.
No, no, she couldn't keep her back to them like that. Who knows what they could be readying to level at her- this terrain was too open!
Once they made it past a honey tree and possibly past the team on the path, Palila swiveled on her heel, turning to face, well, everyone.
She threw down a Pokeball, and Dartrix came screaming out, having felt her fear.
"I don't know what you're playing at! Back off!" She shouted, angry and frightened.
"If you want a battle, come get one! If you don't, then leave us alone!"
