Time to put your minds together for a prerelease!
That is because Prereleases for Unified Minds are starting this weekend.! They will be the last two weekends of July from the 20th to 28th.
If you attend an Unified Minds Prerelease then you will receive one of four special art promos of cards from the set. These cards will be Amoongus, Tapu Fini, Necrozma, and Terrakion.
Amoongus

Amoongus is expected to see some play due to it’s Bursting Spores ability. This ability allows you to put your opponent’s Pokemon to sleep when you play a Pokemon that has the Spore attack from your hand. This will cause some annoying status conditions that your opponent will have to deal with. Especially without the use of staple switching cards such as Escape Rope and Guzma soon leaving the format.
An interesting rouge deck could be made with Amoongus and other cards from Unified Minds. This deck involves the use of Amoongus’s Bursting Spores ability and the Asleep status condition.
Tapu Fini

Tapu Fini may not see that much play. Especially in a prerelease format. Though, it could make a splash in the Standard format as a one card tech against Blacephalon and Blacephalon GX decks. That is because of Nature Wave attack. When there is an Ultra Beast in play, the cost of this attack becomes one Colorless energy. That could be handy if you want an easy knockout against an Blacephalon deck.
Necrozma

Necrozma may see some play thanks to the Special Laser attack. This attack does a base 100 damage but if there is a special energy attach to it then it does 60 more. That is 160 damage from a three energy attack. It may seem that too much energy is needed but if you can run this in a Malamar deck then it is easy. The only problem you will have now is getting a Special Energy attached to Necrozma.
There could be a few Special Energy options that you can put in your Malamar deck in the future. Especially if you are planning to build a single prize attacker Malamar deck.
Terrakion

Terrakion can be a scary Pokemon if you can find a way to get it set up. If you want to get the most out of Terrakion then you will not only need to find a way to get energy attached to him but also get damage on your own Pokemon. That is because if all your Benched Pokemon have damage on it then Terrakion’s Cavern Counter does 200 damage. That is a lot of damage!
Perhaps you can use this as a weird counter to Weezing decks. Maybe you can play mostly GX Pokemon in your deck and have them gain damage by using your own Shrine of Punishment. That way you can have Terrakion do some major damage.
Unified Minds Prereleaes will be the weekends of July 20th to 28th. This set will be release on August 2nd and legal for tournament play by August 16th. The same day as Worlds 2019. You can find your local prereleases by clicking here.
Best of luck in your upcoming tournaments!
