Worlds Announcements! New TCG Mechanic and More!

Big announcement at Worlds 2019 for the TCG!
The Pokemon World Championships are happening right now! That means we got plenty of information for the future of Pokemon involving the TCG with Pokemon V, Sword & Shield and Cosmic Eclipse!
New V Power Coming to the TCG!

During the opening ceremonies, it was revealed that the Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield set will feature a new mechanic called Pokemon V.
Currently there isn’t many things known about these new Pokemon V cards except that there will be a Zacian V and Zamazenta V.

Zacian V will have an attack called Brave Blade that does 230 damage. The downside is that Zacian V can’t attack the following turn. Currently we do not know the type or the cost for the attack.

Meanwhile, Zamazenta V will have an attack that does 130 damage called Assault Tackle. This attack will discard a Special Energy attached to your opponent’s active Pokemon. Just like Zacian V, we do not know the attack cost for this attack.
Both Zacian V and Zamazenta V will have an ability. Currently we do not know what this ability will be. Also, because they are Pokemon V, they have the new V-Rule which states that if a Pokemon V is knocked out then the player takes two prize cards.

Based on the trailer, we may see Dynamax being represented in the game in the form of V-Max Pokemon. In the text for the ability for Zamazenta V, it states V-Max. This could be the way that Dynamax is being used in the TCG. Also, at the end of the trailer, we saw Pikachu & Zekrom GX standing before a giant card with a V in the upper left hand corner with 330 HP. This is the highest we have seen HP go in the TCG. The card also had purple could at the top similar to Dynamax Pokemon do in Sword & Shield. This card could be a V-Max Pokemon that Zamazenta V’s ability is referring to. The massive HP could represent the huge factor that Dynamax does to a Pokemon.
The tagline “eVolve” is being associated with Pokemon V. Maybe this is a sign on how Dynamax Pokemon will be used in the TCG. A V-Max Pokemon to Dynamax may involve evolving your Pokemon into it’s V-Max form. This will be similar to Lv.X Pokemon back in the Diamond & Pearl era of the TCG.
    Sword & Shield

It has been reveal that our future TCG set will be called Sword & Shield. This set will have 202 cards and feature Zacian and Zamazenta.
Sword & Shield will be release in Japan in December. Meanwhile, the set will be release in America and worldwide in February.

One thing to note is that Zacian V and Zamazenta V have a boxed D in the lower left hand corner of the card. This is similar to how Japanese cards having a boxed letter on their cards. These letters are used to indicate blocks that are used in the TCG. We could see these letters used to indicate legality at future tournaments. Such as we may see tournaments stating that only cards from B, C and D blocks are allowed for use. Overall, this could be the start of worldwide tournament legality in Japan and aboard.
    Cosmic Eclipse Tag Teams

Lastly, we saw two new Tag Team GX Pokemon that will be featured in Cosmic Ellipse. These two Tag Team GX Pokemon cards are Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX and Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX.
Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX and Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX are both Tag Team trios. These cards were revealed in the trailer that showed off the new Pokemon V mechanic.
Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX is a Baby Tag Team GX Pokemon. It can do 120 damage with three Fairy Energy and allows you to flip coins until you get tails. You can do 30 more damage for each heads you get.
Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX also has a GX Attack that is called Supreme Puff GX that cost two Fairy Energy. This attack allows you to take another turn. If you have 14 extra Fairy Energy then you can shuffle all cards on your opponent’s Bench into their deck.
Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX is a Dragon type Tag Team GX Pokemon. This one really tries to dig into the creation myth with it’s attacks. You can use Ultimate Ray for a Steel, Water and one more energy. This attack does 150 damage but allows you to search your deck for three Energy from your deck. You can then attach these energy on your bench however you like. Their GX Attack is called Altered Creation GX. This attack cost a single Metal energy. If you use this attack then your attacks do an extra 30 damage to your opponent’s Pokemon. If you have an extra Water Energy attached to Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX then you can take an extra prize card whenever you knockout your opponent’s Pokemon.
Below is the trailer that introduce all of these new information.

The Pokemon TCG is only getting bigger from this point on. That is saying a lot when you have more Tag Team GX Pokemon entering the game with Cosmic Eclipse. Especially when we know that Pokemon V is coming with the introduction of Sword & Shield.
Best of luck to players playing at Worlds 2019 and any future tournaments!
