It is the end of an era.
The Pokemon Global Link has been running for nine years but it will soon come to a close. That is because the Pokemon Global Link will be shutting down on February 24th 2020.
The reason for the Pokemon Global Link closure is due to Nintendo Switch Online and Pokemon HOME offering many of the similar services that the PGL had such as Rating Battles and keeping track of rankings.
The Pokemon Global Link was originally opened at the start of Generation 5 with Pokemon Black & White. It allow people the chance tuck in their Pokemon to enter the Dream World. From there, trainers were allow to play minigames with their Pokemon to earn items and catch Pokemon with their Hidden Abilities.
With the advent of Generation 6, the Dream World function was shut down. It was later converted to act as the hub for the Poke Mileage Club and store PokeMilage. It was also used to host Online Competitions. This was later expanded upon in Generation 7 with QR Rental Teams.
