The Lunar New Year is coming soon which means another reason to celebrate!
And Pokemon GO is going to celebrate in lunar proportions! There will be plenty of events coming to Pokemon GO to celebrate the New Year involving plenty of new Pokemon coming to the game, plenty of red and a Limited Research Day!
Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Event: GOing Red!

Prepare to see plenty of red! That is because red colored Pokemon will be unleashed in Pokemon GO starting on Friday, January 24, 2020. One of these Pokemon will be a brand new addition in the form of Darumaka! The perfect Pokemon you want by your side as you celebrate a new lunar year.
Below are some of the features coming with the Lunar New Year Event.
Features

  • Certain red Pokémon will be featured. Charmeleon, Vulpix, Parasect, Voltorb, Jynx, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Corphish, Kricketot, and Foongus will appear more frequently in the wild!
  • Gyashaa! If you’re lucky, you might spot a Gyarados in the wild. Will you be lucky enough to encounter the coveted red Shiny Gyarados?
  • Darumaka will hatch from 7 km Eggs. Some red Pokémon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs, such as Shuckle and Foongus. Making its Pokémon GO debut will be Darumaka, the Zen Charm Pokémon!

Bonuses

  • Gifts will have a chance of rewarding you with Rare Candies, so be sure to send and open lots of Gifts with your friends.
  • Be sure to trade more often with your friends—the likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends will be increased.
  • When you trade a Pokémon, there will be an increased chance it will become a Lucky Pokémon.

Please note that Zen Mode Darmanitan will not be available during this event.
Minccino Limited Research

It is the year of the rat so you can expect to see a lot of rodent like Pokemon running around during the Lunar New Year Event. One of them is a new addition in the form of Minccino! That is because Minccino will be getting a Limited Research Day!
On Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 2:00pm to 5:00 PM, trainers will be able to get Limited Research Tasks that will allow them to encounter Minccino. Trainers can also expect to see Minccino hatch from 5km Eggs. If they are lucky then perhaps they will find a Shiny Minccino.
Below are the full details of the Limited Research Day.
Features

  • Field Research: Minccino Limited Research tasks will allow you to encounter Minccino.
  • Pokémon that fit the theme of the Year of the Rat will be appearing more frequently in the wild. Look out for Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran?, Nidoran?, Sentret, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, Bidoof, and Patrat.
  • Minccino in 5 km Eggs: Minccino will be hatching more frequently from 5 km Eggs. After the event ends, Minccino will continue to be available in 5 km Eggs.
  • Shiny Minccino will be available! If you’re lucky, you might encounter one!

If you wish to evolve your Minccino into a Cinccino then you will need a Unova Stone. So make sure to save or find a Unova Stone before this Research Day.
The Lunar New Year Event will run from Friday, January 24 to Monday, February 3, 2020.
