“Mega Venusaur Plush” from PokemonCenter.com
Luckily for all those Mega Evolution fans out there, a number of Mega Pokemon plush have now been created and released in Japan and the US! So far, this includes Blaziken, Charizard X and Y, Blastoise, Venusaur, Ampharos, Garchomp, Lucario, Mewtwo X and Y, Absol, Gengar, Shiny Gengar and the upcoming Swampert, Sceptile, Diancie and Shiny Metagross! Today’s review will focus on Mega Venusaur, which is my personal favourite of all the Mega plush so far.

The Mega Pokemon plush are made from soft material like the other Pokemon Center plush lines. These plush manage to capture all the details of the Megas, which is quite difficult considering how complex some of the designs are. Let’s take a closer look at Venusaur!

Just like it’s game counterpart, the Mega Venusaur plush features small pink flowers on its head and backside. Compared with Venusaur, the large pink flower on the middle of Mega Venusaur’s back has two small pine-trees growing underneath it, and a few vines as well. This is all captured nicely on the plush. The “stem” of Mega Venusaur’s flower and the stem and vines of the pine-trees are made of a slightly different material, which is less cuddly than the rest of the plush. Mega Venusaur’s body, leaves and flower are all made of very nice, soft material. One of the great things about Mega plush is that they give you a chance to see the Pokemon up close and appreciate all the little parts of its design.

Mega Venusaur is a medium-size plush which can be held easily in the palm of the hand. Each Mega plush is a slightly different size depending on the form of the Pokemon. Mega Venusaur is 7.5 inches high, while Blaziken and Absol reach 10.5 inches.

One criticism of some of the Mega plush line are that some features are painted on instead of embroidered or made with material. Painted areas of plush tend to wear after time, especially if kept in direct sunlight or handled too much. This is less of an issue with Mega Venusaur, as the only parts of the plush which are painted are the white spots on its flower. Mega Lucario, however, features many painted stripes on his head and body. Just something to keep in mind if you intend to cuddle the plush instead of display them!

Aside from this series of plush, TOMY is also releasing some separate Mega Pokemon plush, with the Mega Hoenn starters being released soon in Japan. Keep an eye out for them!

Fun fact!
So far, two Pokemon have received Shiny Mega plush: Gengar and Metagross. Shiny Mega Gengar was a limited release for Halloween, while the upcoming Shiny Mega Metagross plush is based on Steven’s from ORAS and is poseable. Just like Shiny Pokemon, Shiny plush are often rare and therefore popular amongst collectors!

Price!
Most Mega Plush, including Venusaur, can be purchased from PokemonCenter.com for US$22.99, which seems like a reasonable price for a medium-sized plush. Resellers on eBay will charge a bit more. As the plush are readily available online at the moment, prices should not go up unless/until they sell out.

Where To Get Them!
PokemonCenter.com now has most of the Mega plush in stock. Various Mega plush are also available at the Nintendo World Store in New York, where stock is constantly changing. Finally, these plush can be found in Pokemon Centers in Japan, where they were originally released. Fans outside the US should be able to find these plush on eBay. The Japanese and US releases are the same apart from the tags. If you’re after a Japanese release, you can try PokeVault, but these will be more expensive.

Rating!
The detail in these plush is spectacular, and can really be appreciated in the Mega Garchomp and the Mega Venusaur plush featured here, as their designs are quite complex. Some Mega plush have not turned out as well as others, but on the whole, we give these plush 3.5 out of 5 Pokeballs. These plush could be improved by embroidering details instead of painting them, and also by expanding the range of the plush, which we’re sure will happen with the release of so many new Megas for ORAS.

I personally give this Mega Venusaur plush 5 out of 5 for making that big, grumpy Grass-type look so cute and cuddly! I would definitely recommend this plush.
