Mewtwo Arrives in Pokemon GO!

That’s right! Mewtwo is coming to Pokemon GO around the world!

Many trainers spent the last three weeks furiously hunting legendary birds, but it’s not over yet! The recent Pokemon GO event in Japan saw the release of Mewtwo at a special invite-only Stadium event. The Mewtwo had a catch rate of 100% and trainers received 50 Premier Balls to catch it upon completing the raid. Niantic has now announced that Mewtwo will be available everywhere else “in the coming weeks”, through a new mechanic called “exclusive raids”.

Exclusive Raid Battles are similar to existing Raid Battles, with a few notable differences. Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.

We don’t know exactly how this will work yet, but hopefully it won’t make it more difficult to get enough people for raiding. On top of Mewtwo’s coming appearance, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Lugia will continue being available until August 31st, so if you haven’t managed to get one yet, don’t give up! If you’re strugging to find people to play with, try searching Facebook for Pokemon GO raid groups around your area.

Good luck everyone!
