The name of Japan’s June TCG set has been announced along with which Pokmeon will be mainly featured. This TCG set will be release in two subsets called Explosive Fighter featuring Volcanion and Cruel Traitor featuring Mega Gardevoir. Explosive Fighter and Cruel Traitor will be composed of 54 cards each with a total of 108 cards in total. These subsets will be part of the XY BREAK block.
Explosive Figher and Cruel Traitor will be used to promote “Volcanion and the Mechanical Magearna” movie which comes out on July 16th in Japan. This is obvious by the choice of the cover Pokemon as Volcanion is one of the featured Pokemon in the movie while Mega Gardevoir is playing a role as a prominent figure. The set description also states that other Pokemon from the movie will appear as well. Some of these Pokemon include Slurpuff, Mega Salamence, Mega Glalie, Mega Steelix, Mega Alakazam, Mega Houndoom, Mega Tyranitar, shiny Mega Gengar, Mega Swampert, Mega Sableye, Mega Banette, and Mega Beedrill.
We could see Slurpuff as an EX or as a BREAK Pokemon. We have already had Mega Glalie, Mega Alakazam, Mega Houndoom, Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gengar, and Mega Swampert featured in the TCG. Though this set could be used to feature them as Shiny Pokemon or simply reprint them in order to keep some of these cards in the format after rotation. Personally I do not see them being reprinted and instead we may just seem a massive Mega Pokemon push. That will include Mega Pokemon cards for Mega Salamence, Mega Steelix, Mega Sableye, (playable) Mega Swampert, Mega Banette and Mega Beedrill. That way most of the Mega Pokemon can be used in the TCG before Gen 6 is officially closed in the TCG. It will be interesting to see what they will do with Mega Gardevoir as this will be the third time it is printed. It surely won’t be a reprint from the one in Primal Clash and Generations. Maybe it will be a Psychic type?
The product description for Explosive Figher and Cruel Traitor also mentions a new mechanic being introduced in these sets. It will be interesting to see what this mechanic is seeing that we are still in the BREAK block which had introduced the BREAK Evolution mechanic.
Also being released this summer will be Mythical/Legendary Dream Holo Collection. This collection will be similar to the Legendary Shine Collection which was used to promote the Hoopa movie. The Mythical/Legendary Dream Holo Collection will be released to promote the Volcanion movie and feature either Mythical or Legendary Pokemon. This mini set will be composed of 36 cards. We may see this set release similar to Dragon Vault or Double Crisis if it comes out in the US.
There is no English release date for Explosive Fighter and Cruel Traitor or Mythical/Legendary Dream Holo Collection.
Explosive Fighter and Cruel Traitor will be release in Japan on June 17th.
Mythical/Legendary Dream Holo Collection will be release in Japan on July 16th. The same day as Volcanion movie.
