Collecting the Pokemon TCG can be quite expensive. Some cards can go for $80 dollars if you are trying to get a master set of the recent cards. Or build the best and latest of competitive decks. After all, currently a Rainbow Rare Rayquaza GX is going for $94 dollars on some sites. Though, what about other cards? Or perhaps a box?
Recently a box of 1st Edition Limited Printing Base Set Pokemon TCG cards was sold in an auction for over $60,000 dollars. The auction started on Huggins & Scott Auctions for $20,000. The bidding war started from there between collectors. Once the auction ended, the box of Base Set was sold for $68,880 on Friday.
Packs and boxes for Base Set are far and few in between. Finding a 1st Edition box is even rarer! The last time a box of Base Set sold was in 2017. That one went for only $54,000. Want to know something even more incredible? In the same year, a complete set of PSA 10 Base Set sold for $106,000! PSA 10 is the highest grade that can be given. That means that these cards were in mint condition.
Base Set is no joke. These cards are hard to find but there are many collectors who want to get their hands on these cards. These cards may not be playable in the current Pokemon TCG but they hold plenty of nostalgia for those who want to catch’em all!
