The Sky Jukebox #3: Battle! VS Yveltal!

Sky Jukebox Yveltal

Once again, it’s time for the Sky Jukebox!

Last week we did a remix, and the week before we did a re-orchestration—now it’s time to delve into another part of Pokémon composing: fan-made music. The music composing community on YouTube amazes me, since not only will they redo themes from the games, many also write themes of their own—original but with a distinct Pokémon flair to them. These especially pop up whenever new games are announced as music composers use their imagination to fill their anticipation for these new games.

Composer LugiaDialga, in anticipation for Pokémon Y, has created her own theme for Yveltal. Jump inside to listen to her song, “Battle! VS Yveltal!” as well as take a look at one of her digital drawings.

What I particularly like about this piece is the combination of a fast-past rhythm set by the percussion with traditional instruments (synthetic, of course) of the organ, choir, and violin. It certainly portrays the tension of meeting an ancient Legendary Pokémon in a modern setting. Also interesting to me is the sound effects she placed in the background from 0:57 to 1:22, which almost gives the impression of breaking glass.

Be sure to subscribe to LugiaDialga’s channel, if you haven’t already, and listen to her remixes and other original compositions! And leave your thoughts in the comments below—until next time!
