Currently, the Nuzlocke Forums are offering a rather unique challenge. The Nuzlocke Heroes Communitylocke requires participants to write stories or draw comics focused on characters, particularly on the Pokemon involved. But the catch is, the Pokemon don’t necessarily have to be Pokemon. Already we’ve seen some interesting results–one being the fan-fiction feature of the day: The Spirit Lord, a randomized Emerald Nuzlocke by DevilofDarkness.
In the world of The Spirit Lord, Hoenn is suffering beneath a sudden rash of natural disasters. People have been trying to rebuild their lives under these dismal times, others growing desperate. Few have found help by bonding with Spirits, ancient beings with power over the elements. Once connected, humans can call upon their powers and transform into superhuman hybrids.
Kai of Littleroot has always wondered what it would be like to bond with a Spirit. He feels certain that he would be of better service to his people, who recently are trying to recover from a damaging earthquake. Yet even he could not have expected the adventure that would befall him when he stumbles upon a quirky wizard named Birchem. The world is unraveling, and apparently Kai is the only one who has a chance to save it. No pressure or anything.
The Spirit Lord is a creative spin on the story of Pokemon Emerald, backed by excellent writing and intriguing concepts. While only in its forth chapter, DevilofDarkness has crafted a tale that will hook you in. A soft PG-13 warning is in place for violence and some language.
