Guess which TCG staple is getting a reprint!
A product called “Island Guardians GX Premium Collection” will be release late in 2018. This collection box will feature five packs and alternate artwork for Tapu Fini GX and Tapu Lele GX.
What makes the “Island Guardians GX Premium Collection” special is the reprint for Tapu Lele GX. This card is a staple in many TCG decks with most playing at least two. Tapu Lele GX is a card that brings consistently thanks to the Wonder Tag ability. This helps many decks grab much needed Supporter cards in a pinch. Tapu Lele GX is one of the most expensive staples in the current format.
With the release of “Island Guardians GX Premium Collection”, Tapu Lele GX will be widely available for both competitive and casual players. The price for Tapu Lele GX will most likely drop thanks to this collection.
What is unknown is the set number that this Tapu Lele GX will have. Currently reprints can be release as a Black Star Promo or Alternate Art (Yellow A) promo.
If Tapu Lele GX is reprinted as a Black Star Promo then it will receive a unique number under Black Star Promos. This will extend the usability of Tapu Lele GX in the Standard format for at least one or two more years. If release this way then it will make many players happy. It will also help keep the English TCG Standard format similar to the Japanese format.
If Tapu Lele GX is printed with a Yellow A then it will have the same set number as it did in Guardians Rising. That means this card will not be usable in the Standard format once Guardians Rising rotates. This is expected to happen in September 2019.
The art used for Tapu Lele GX in this card has not been release in Japan. Most likely this art is from Ultra Shiny which will be release in late 2018.
It is interesting to note that this set has two packs featuring Lugia and Blacephalon. These packs are most likely from our currently unnamed November set. We are expecting to see Lugia GX and Blacephalon GX in Japan’s Explosive Impact which is set to release in September. That would mean that the “Island Guardians GX Premium Collection” will release in November or December because of the inclusion of the two packs featuring the unnamed English set featuring Lugia GX.
Tapu Lele GX being release in a box collection is huge news for the Pokemon TCG community. Better get your hands on his collection if you need some Tapu Lele GX!
