Soccer is a game enjoyed by millions around the world. As fate would have it, so is Pokémon. But in Portland, Soccer isn’t just a game. It’s life. The Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders rivalry is one that stretches back more than 40 years, and both sets of fans have found inventive ways to jab at each other. This weekend, the Timbers army brought Pokémon into the mix.
Building on their affinity with axes, (the Timbers Army have axes in their badge) the Timbers are represented by Axew, while the Timbers’ nickname for the Sounders, the Flounders, meant that they were represented by Magikarp. The Timbers came away 3-1 winners, and kept their banner game strong.
