FC/Fav.Pokemon in postbit.

Hey again,

This time I had the idea of possibly adding the user profile fields "Favorite Pokemon:" and "Friend Code:" into the user post area.

Hey! That's a really cool suggestion. :D I'd prefer it to be a little icon of the favourite pokemon, though, which would obviously become a bit of a problem. But then again, we do icons for events half the time, so maybe keeping it as a word instead of a picture would be ideal. Thanks for the suggestion! 8D Pokemon Trainer Sarah thoughts?

Pretty sure the icon thing is possible, however im not aware of anyway that could be done other than listing all the pokemon on a drop down list for the profile field and having the image display for whatever Pokemon was chosen. Theres probably an easier way but thats what I can come up with off the top of my head.

This shouldn't be a problem. I guess I'm not sure how useful having your fave Pokemon listed would be though. Like is it necessary for a postbit? Having a little icon could be cool but we put stuff in the postbit a lot for events, so I think having a permanent Pokemon icon there might interfere a bit. Maybe we could try putting a Pokemon icon next to the username or something though? It would probably have to be an admin-only field and if you wanted it updated you would need to ask, since I don't really wanna set up a drop down thing with 700+ Pokemon xD

But yeah, adding text should be alright. Let's just see what everyone else thinks :)

I'm sure one could make a modification to make it simpler but I have no idea how to do that.

Here's how you'd do that for this forums though...

In template "postbit_legacy",

FIND:

{vb:raw post.onlinestatus}
Add underneath:

<vb:if condition="$post['userid'] == X"><img src="IMAGE URL HERE" /></vb:if>

By doing this and replacing X with the userid of whomever requested the pokemon in their name and "IMAGE URL HERE" with the small sprite url, it'd add the image next to their name(and only their name in posts), after the online status. If you want the icon to be to the left, before the online status, put it before the post.onlinestatus code.

If you want to add multiple people (which will most definitely happen), just add the image code again right underneath the first one and assign the userid/image to the code as you did the first, to meet the request of the other user.

I'm not anyone important, but if i remember correctly, back on Bulbagarden Forums before that major overhaul there was also "Pokedex Entry" "Type(s)" and "Location Met" entries for the postbit. That was always fun. Adds a bit of color to a postbit, and makes it all a bit more friendly, you know?

I guess I'll be the boring one and say I don't really like a cluttered postbit. The avatar is the most important part there. If you have stuff below that's twice the size of the avatar, the avatar loses its focus. An extra line or two won't make too much of a difference. But some people have a lot of favorites, and that takes up multiple lines on its own. And personally, I don't find favorite Pokemon or a type to be important enough to warrant a place in the postbit. We already have an About Me on our profiles for all the various specifics.

But again, I prefer a tidy postbit.

^I second this. It seems like a pointless waste of space to me. Having little icons of your favourite Pokemon would be cute on the full profile though!

Again, I think it may be a bit of a waste of space on the postbit. It's already on the full profile though!! I get the impression that the trading/battling sections here aren't that active, so I'm not sure it would add much to the overall experience :(

I imagine that there would be a six-Pokemon limit, at the most. Tbh I personally don't think it'll add clutter; it's literally just one little extra line of text in your postbit. Plus, it's a pretty convenient place to have it!

The icons COULD be something other than the XY party icons. Not sure what, but we could use some other small icons or something, if there are any.

As much as I hate to rashly jump into things, I'm almost wanting to volunteer help. Like, we could use these (http://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/forum/showthread.php?3108-Speed-s-Pixel-Cluster-v2-0&p=203694&viewfull=1#post203694) types of icons for favorite Pokemon in the postbit. Ones that have an appropriate sprite can be added as an image, and anything that doesn't yet have a sprite can be just text and the person can just request it from me or something. Idk, to be honest I love making those low-resolution Pokemon sprites...plus, they're super-cute! *loves miniature things*

Edit: we'd probably have to have a universal size for each sprite. So... 96x96 pixels are the dimensions for standard BW sprites. So half of that is 48. so they're have to be 48x48 pixels. For the record, that's about the size of the badge postbit sprites we have right now.

The only problem would be Kalos / Mega Evolutions...but honestly it wouldn't be that big of a problem.

Yeah, I agree with Fate. While it sounds awesome in theory, I often like to colour theme my avatar and banner to match whatever's in my postbit and such. Having a cluttered and colourful postbit would totally blow anything I made out of the water, and distract from the graphics.

If anyone wants my friend code or my faovurite Pokemon, they can just ask. xD Tbh we haven't used friend codes for anything in a while, unless you're super into trading or battling. Oh, okay then! In that case I don't mind it, if it doesn't show up unless text is input. And yeah, I can be confusing sometimes, so understandable. xD

That would be fine, I just thought maybe one icon would be better over six or so. I don't want my posbit all cluttered! And that way I could have a cute little Latias icon next to my username! Unless I decided to switch it out for Pikachu or Vaporeon, aha. Maybe icons instead of user titles as a viable option? If they can't go next to your username.
