GYM BATTLE #1

Welcome to the Indigo League! Now that you have a tough team, it's time to take on the Gym Leaders of the Kanto region! Can you defeat them all and earn badges? Gyms will be open as long as the event is on, so if you can't defeat a leader yet, don't worry! Go out and catch some more Pokemon!

How it works
The details of how to battle are found in the spoiler below:

Battling is based on only 2 things. What evolution stage your Pokemon is and its type.

Evolution stage
For the purposes of the game, pretend no Pokemon outside of Kanto exist.

A basic Pokemon is a Pokemon that is unevolved like Bulbasaur and Pikachu.
A middle evolution is a Pokemon that has evolved once and has the potential to evolve again, like Kakuna.
A final evolution is a Pokemon that can't evolve any further like Venusaur, Seadra or Scyther.

A Pokemon can defeat any Pokemon which are at a lower evolution stage (unless one Pokemon is super effective against another!)

Example:

Basic Pokemon vs Basic Pokemon = draw
Basic Pokemon vs Middle Evolution = middle evolution wins
Basic Pokemon vs Final Evolution = final evolution wins
Middle evolution vs Final Evolution = final evolution wins

Type Effectiveness

If at least one of the Pokemon's types is SUPER EFFECTIVE against the opposing Pokemon, then you get a bonus equal to one evolution stage.

Example:

Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs a Squirtle (Basic) = Bulbasaur wins
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Wartortle (Middle) = draw
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Blastoise (Final) = Blastoise wins

If both Pokemon are super-effective against each other, then the bonus cancels out.

Example:

Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Geodude (Basic + Super effective) = draw
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Graveler (Middle + Super effective) = Graveler wins
Ivysaur (Middle + Super effective) vs Gyarados (Final + Super effective) = Gyarados wins
Venusaur (Final + Super effective) vs Gyarados (Final + Super effective) = draw

Example battle

Trainer Alex challenges you!
"I'm a new trainer but I'll do my best!"

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/pidgeotto.png Pidgeotto (Middle, Normal/Flying type)
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/sandshrew.png Sandshrew (Basic, Ground type)
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/metapod.png Metapod (Middle, Bug type)

Choose three of your own Pokemon to battle with! To make it simple, you can only use a Pokemon once per battle. So think of it like three 1 vs 1 battles!

My team:

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/charmander.png Charmander (Basic, Fire type)
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/abra.png Abra (Basic, Psychic type)
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/nidorino.png Nidorino (Middle, Poison type)

The battle! Round One!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/pidgeotto.png Pidgeotto (Middle, Normal/Flying type) vs http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/nidorino.png Nidorino (Middle, Poison type)
No type bonuses. Draw.

Round Two!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/sandshrew.png Sandshrew (Basic, Ground type) vs http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/abra.png Abra (Basic, Psychic type)
No type bonuses. Draw.

Round Three!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/metapod.png Metapod (Middle, Bug type) vs http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/charmander.png Charmander (Basic, Fire type)
Charmander is super effective. Draw.

Final outcome: Battle is a draw!

PEWTER CITY GYM

Gym Rules:
You will battle with three Pokemon.
The gym will function as three 1 vs 1 battles.
You must win at least two of the three battles to defeat Brock.
Any battle which ends in a draw is counted as a loss.

http://i.imgur.com/PSJxgu5.png
"I'm Brock! I'm Pewter's Gym Leader! I believe in rock hard defense and determination!
That's why my Pokémon are all the Rock-type! Do you still want to challenge me?
Fine then! Show me your best!"

Pokemon:

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/onix.png (Final, Rock/Ground type)

Individual Prize: Boulder Badge http://i.imgur.com/iChg4Om.png, evolve one Pokemon.

Post your battle below. When your battle is approved and your name is added to the first post under Certified Trainers, you may go ahead and request to evolve a Pokemon in the Wild Pokemon Claim thread (http://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/forum/showthread.php?10680-Wild-Pokemon-Claim-Thread!).

My team:

Golem: Final Rock/Ground
Psyduck: Basic Water
Sandshrew: Basic Ground

Psyduck versus Cubone: Water is Supereffective against Ground, Cubone loses.

Sandshrew versus Geodude: Ground is supereffective against Rock (funnily enough Ground is one of the few types which doesn't resist itself last I checked), Geodude loses.

Golem versus Onix: They're both exactly the same mechanically, so it's a draw.

End Result: V I C T O R Y !

Go Bulbasaur, Psyduck, and Sandslash!

Psyduck versus Cubone! Psyduck has a type advantage, Psyduck wins!

Bulbasaur versus Geodude! Ground is super-effective against Bulbasaur's poison. HOWEVER, Bulbasaur's Grass is x4 effective against Geodude's Rock and Ground types!
So, pretty much, it's a draw.

Finally! Sandslash versus Onix! Both are final evolutions! BUT! Sandslash's Ground typing is super effective against Rock types! Sandslash wins!

SO! I win!

Dewgong is super effective against Onix with both Water and Ice type, Onix is super effective against Dewgong with Rock type. Type bonuses cancel out (I think) Evolution stages are a draw. [OVERALL DEWGONG AND ONIX DRAW] I think

Results:
2 wins to Coru
1 draw between Coru and Brock [1 loss for Coru]
[CORU WINS]
@Pokemon Trainer Sarah (http://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/forum/member.php?u=26), If your pokemon has two type advantages and the opposing pokemon has one, do they still cancel each other out, or does the one advantage only cancel out one other advantage, leaving my Dewgong still in the win?
It says that if at least one type is super effective you get one boost in terms of evolution stage so it sounds like it would still be a draw but i'm unsure.

Approved but for future reference, Onix's Ground is super effective againt Venusaur's poison, so the last battle is a draw!

Nidoran (Poison) is weak to Cubone (Ground), so that one is a loss. That makes a loss, a win and a tie (which counts as a loss). So that's a loss overall. Don't give up though! :D

Is your battling not a system of plus and minuses? + Water over Rock + Water or Ground + Evolved - Rock over flying?

or is just having multi bonuses count as one?

Nope. It's just super effective or not super effective. There is no doubly super effective. I'm open to changing it if people prefer, but it makes it more complicated I thought.

Both final. Onix's ground has an advantage over Nidoqueen's poison while Nidoqueen's ground has an advantage over Onix's Rock. OUTCOME: TIE!!

Both are basic, and Geodude's ground has an advantage over Bulbasaur's poison. However, Bulbasaur's Grass has a double type advantage, giving it the upper hand. That and Ground is only half as strong against grass anyway. WINNER: Bulbasaur!!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/onix.png(Final, Ground/rock) VS http://i.imgur.com/fskkndt.png(Final, ground/Poison)
Both final. Onix's ground has an advantage over Nidoqueen's poison while Nidoqueen's ground has an advantage over Onix's Rock. OUTCOME: TIE!!

FINAL BATTLE OUTCOME: MORZONE WINS!!!!

ALMOST!!! But there is no double super effective in this, so I'm afraid Bulbasaur and Geodude tie as they are both super effective against each other... which means the overall battle is a loss. :( Feel free to edit the battle with that in mind!

Ah Fudge. I saw that LK had mentioned the x4, but had misread the battle and thought it said that it had been won. Here's my edited, and in hindsight much better, battle!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/cubone.png(Basic, Ground) VS http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/squirtle.png(Basic, water)
Both Basic, however Water has a type advantage. WINNER: Squirtle!!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/geodude.png(Basic, Ground/rock) VS http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/mankey.png(Basic, fighting)
Both are Basic, but Mankey's fighting is super effective against Geodude's rock. WINNER: Mankey!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/onix.png(Final, Ground/rock) VS http://i.imgur.com/fskkndt.png(Final, ground/Poison)
Both final. Onix's ground has an advantage over Nidoqueen's poison while Nidoqueen's ground has an advantage over Onix's Rock. OUTCOME: TIE!!

FINAL BATTLE OUTCOME: MORZONE WINS!!!! (for sure this time!)

By the way I noticed a mistake in the judging of one of the earlier battles (Now that I know you need 2 wins to count as victory) but as its already been approved it probably doesn't really matter much.

My Battalion: CHAOS LEGION.

PSYDUCK: CRANIAL MIGRAINE INDUCER

MANKEY: SQUEALING TORMENTOR
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/mankey.png Mankey (Basic, Fighting type)

ROUND ONE. FIGHT!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/magikarp.png Magikarp (Basic, Water type) VS http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/cubone.png Cubone (Basic, Ground Type)
Magikarp, THE GRIM HUMILIATION is super effective. I WIN. Cubone brings shame and humiliation upon his family and commits seppuku as a result of his woeful failures.

ROUND TWO. FIGHT!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/psyduck.png Psyduck (Basic, Water type) VS http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/geodude.png Geodude (Basic, Rock/Ground Type)
Psyduck: CRANIAL MIGRAINE INDUCER is super effective. I WIN. Geodude has been splattered into pieces and no longer bears any memory of who he is or what he is. No, you can NOT rebuild him and you do NOT have the technology.

ROUND THREE. FIGHT!

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/mankey.png Mankey (Basic, Fighting type) VS http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xyicons/onix.png Onix (Final, Rock/Ground type)
Mankey: SQUEALING TORMENTOR is super effective, but Onix has evolution. The battle is a DRAW and both sides are eliminated beyond reclamation.

Alright! Now I have loads of Pokemon under my belt. So! Prepare your Pokemon to fall, Brock!

First, Cubone!
Against a Psyduck, headache-inducing as it is, it is at a disadvantage, for Water beats Ground.

Next, the Geodude!
Both it and my Mankey have considerable flexing abilities... But only one has true guts! AND THAT IS MY MANKEY! Fight beats Rock!

Now it's come to this, their best - Onix.
It is only fitting that their most experienced fights against my most experienced in a totally not Ash-level moment, even if they are more so by mere seconds!
So, go Charmander! Give them what for- Uh, um... Charmander? Are you okay?

Outcome: 2 wins, therefore, victory is mine. But at what cost...?

Also, does this count as a post in another thread?

Close but there are no double weaknesses, so unfortunately Bulbasaur vs Cubone is a draw (Bulbasaur's Poison typing is weak to Ground) and so is Lapras vs Onix (Lapras' Ice typing is weak to Rock). However you should still be able to pull off a 2/3 victory with the Pokemon you own if you shuffle the matches around a bit :D
