PMD: Bridge of Invention

[Scytherwolf]

A while ago I started a PMD comic. I still have a lot of pages I haven't posted yet on smackjeeves and hopefully I'll get that started up again soon. In the meantime, though, I'll start posting here.

This comic has a much more cartoony style than I usually draw pokemon (for example, most pokemon in BoI's world stand on their hind legs). Like my other stories, I'm going to be making this up as I go but I have the first chapter planned out and over half of it drawn. For now, though, here is the prologue.

Yep! I first draw the pages on paper, then scan them and do the lineart/coloring/etc. on photoshop.

Do you draw the whole panel first ? Or just the characters? Sorry for the million questions. Im just curious. I have a hell of hard time on photoshop coloring or filling blanks.

Yep, I draw the whole panel. Sometimes I leave out details for the background (such as if there's a lot of grass or something; I just do that in photoshop) but the basic outline for the background is done on paper with the rest of it. (And it's okay, I don't mind answering questions!)

Seeing all those pages together, I just noticed how you vary the border colours of the comics, and how it matches with the lighting in the panels. It really gives each part a totally different feel! Like the blue at the top looks pretty relaxed, while at the bottom there is this crisis going on and now everything is much more red and orange! What a cool idea!

I love the little panel of Rachel rolling her eyes. The expression is perfect! xD Ekans with a camera is pretty funny to imagine! I'm impressed with all the details on the little Growlithe, Butterfree and Pikachu in the background! Looking forward to finding out what's happened! :O

Haha, the eye rolling panel was one of my favorites to draw. And the ekans was actually my sister's idea so I dedicate that to her. c: Thank you again! A new page will be up on Friday.

The idea came from me thinking about what things were like for the random teams you see in the games with evolved pokemon that aren't supposed to be important. I wanted the comic to focus on the perspective of pokemon like that. xD

Nope, and we'll see Atok in...if what I have goes to plan, chapter 4.

That's rough. I actually thought Charlie and Rachel were already their own rescue team but they still need to get certified. Yeeeep, I could see why Rachel is even more upset about it. I've been there. It sucks to get the low end of preferential treatment that has absolutely no explanation behind it.

Again, the expressions. You can totally see the "well, this isn't great but let's hope for the best" in Charlie's expressions while Rachel's facial expressions perfectly capture the "what the hell is up with this" look in her eyes. You totally nail that flawlessly. The character designs are also really well done and the backgrounds are great, too! Definitely great use of vanishing point in that first picture.

Awesome work for sure. These are great and you make every Friday extra sweeter with an update to this. :3

Yep, and nope they aren't a rescue team yet, they have to pass a test first, which of course makes the whole thing more infuriating. And thanks, I'm glad I could really get the unfairness of the whole situation across through the characters.

Wooooow, that Raichu is definitely a super special kind of asshat. Rachel, Charlie, take it from a guy who has had job interviews that went just as crappily. This is NOT a place and not a boss you would even WANT to work for or else you'll just end up hating every day of your life. Not to mention it's an easy way to lose the passion for the kind of work you'd be doing.

Simply turn around, walk out the door, and go pursue something that makes you happier. There's no greater revenge than that! >;3 Make them regret not hiring you! And when they recognize your skills and talent, see their mistakes, and offer you a role... say "NO." Muah ha ha ha!

Well, I have a lot of things to say about this page. First of all, I know the idea of guns in PMD is not going to be everyone's thing (though I'm not worried about the reactions of people on PxR, it's more other sites). In fact, it was the sole reason that, back in early 2014 when I first thought of this comic, I was unsure if I was even going to post it. But I'm going to tell you this; the gun thing is very important to the story. Without it, big parts of the plot would kinda fall apart. So don't worry, I know where this is going. Just trust me on this.

I had been meaning to check this out for some time now. I'm glad I finally did. Each page is amazing! The artwork and expression of each backgorund and character is very unique! Especially the expressions :0

Even with this latest chapter. Showing guns in the PMD universe is very different, but is welcomed nonetheless. Showcasing something a little different to the story adds something bigger and special to it all. Great job on this chapter! Interesting to know there's more than one human turned Pokémon....or was. Who knows at this point besides you if the others are dead or alive. Maybe it's referring to the past heroes? I guess we will find out later!

I'm getting this feeling that there is a tangible reason why Atok and Paci Pokemon are so... Different, and I'm betting its due to humans-turned-Pokemon. That's my gut feeling at this point-Atok is a community of humans-turned-Pokemon who weren't exactly so thrilled nor willing to turn into Pokemon. At least in part. It would explain the cruelty committed upon other Pokemon so well, if there are no other human inhabitants (I mean, who else uses guns?), and why the Guild was so interested in the guy claiming to be human.

Also, dang. I had this feeling it was a Desert Eagle based upon its design (disregarding the boxy-ness), and the power needed to pierce a Protect right through kind of proves it. I guess. Or at least based off of it. Those things pack a punch.

This is crazy and this is great. I will note that the line designating the gunfire kind of stretches into the gun, but that's my only complaint, really.

Yep, the guns were a part of the story from the very, very first ideas of it in early 2014, so the story has been built around that. As to the other humans, well I can't say anything about it because of spoilers, but I definitely love hearing your theories.

Haha, pretty much. Zeke is pretty lazy but also, in a way, not lazy, because he goes to great lengths to avoid doing something he doesn't want to be bothered with.

Getting the gun definitely won't be an option for a long time, if at all, but he still understands machines in a way they don't, so he's their only real help at the moment...

Back in early 2014 when I first thought of these characters, one of the first things I thought of was Zeke causing an explosion in a tunnel and going to prison. So I decided to reference that.

I like the way you captured the flashback scenes without color and Zeke's expressions in color as he's telling the story. That's a nice touch! He also has a very amusing grin. I like that! :D

And then there's the plot. Most of the times I binge a comic and then forget about it, but this has left me eagerly awaiting each friday to see what happens next.
