I googled Photography Quotes, thinking it'd be a profound way to intro my thread. Then I found that, and laughed, and figured that was just as suitable, seeing as I am only just starting. Like, today was the first time I actually went out with a camera that isn't built into a phone, to take photos.
I am not sure why, but the last few weeks, I have felt a strong urge to get into photography as a hobby and take better photos. On Saturday night, I scoured the house and found a digital camera. Ever since I have waited for a chance to get out and take pictures. I have learned a lot of the functions through my videography unit I am doing at University this Trimester, and am eager to put them to the test.
One thing I have noticed is that the last few weeks, I can't help but look at the world around me with a new sense of awe. As in, just about any time I am outside, I am constantly thinking of how awesome everything looks, and thinking of how best to get a picture of it. I don't know, I guess I have started to see the beauty in the world around me, and I want to record it. Wow, that sounded so lame.
Anyway, I plan on making exploring and taking photos a regular thing, and will be sharing them here. Feel free to check it out and comment. I'll be heading to some pretty cool locations hopefully, so keep an eye here when I post.

12/09/2016. Lakes on a s***ty afternoon.
Today started off very unproductive. I got out of bed at nearly 11am, and attempted to study, but failed after a few minutes. I experimented with food, attempting to put ramen noodles in a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, then watched a movie for the next two and a half hours. When the movie finally finished, I still had another two and a half hours before Bible Study was due to start. It was only a half hour drive, so I decided to grab the meh compact camera I found at home on Saturday, and go out to try and get some decent shots. I had been putting it off, as I am hoping to get myself a DSLR this Friday, assuming the stars align with my pay, and figured I won't be able to get decent shots out of this camera. It is only 12 Megapixels, the equivalent of my phone, without a true viewfinder (relies solely on the LCD screen), nor any manual focus control. All the other controls are software based, fiddly and hard to use. It is intended to be a point and click camera, and I didn't want to go out with it and struggle to get decent shots, and be turned off photography by that. However boredom is a strong motivator.
There were two parks and lakes on the way to Bible Study, so I went there, armed with a fairly average compact camera. The first was...
Ringwood Lake
Ringwood Lake is about a five minute walk from my house. However since I didn't have a lot of time, I drove there, parking in the car park for the pub next to it, and making my way in. Surprisingly, there were hardly any people playing Pokemon Go there. The last few times I have been, there have been heaps. I think I spotted maybe three people playing it in the half hour or so I was there. Anyway, I did a lap, as I didn't want to waste too much time and miss out on the next place during daylight, and managed to get a fair few shots, some I actually quite like. Granted, most of these have a couple of shots near identical where it was unfocused, or I couldn't hold the camera steady, etc.

This isn't the park per say, but is my street, as I walked to my car. Technicalities...

For some reason, I have this weird liking of roads and paths. A lot of my pictures were like this. This was probably the best though.

I actually really like this shot. One of my favorites. Will probably try and recreate it but better when I get a better camera. Try and adjust the focus and depth of field to blur out the lake a little and sharpen the bench.

This shelter over the lake is a Pokestop. Usually crawling with Pokemon Go players.

Blue Lake
Blue Lake is a hidden gem, and will always have a dear place in my heart. So many good times there. It is hidden at the end of a long dirt road, that stems out from suburbia. Yet for such a hidden gem, everyone seems to know about it. When I say its hidden, it is as if everyone knows about it but not too many people actually go there. My parents know of it, but never mentioned it until I brought it up, as do a lot of people. One reason I can think of is that to get to the lake itself is a hell of a walk, and things such as campfires or camping are banned, so people would probably rather go elsewhere. Still, I love it. We have had many a campfire and camp out there (and many near misses with being caught...), as well as many a beer on the nights we camped there. Some of my fondest memories are there. The camp outs, that night a bunch of the guys went down to the lake with the intention of blowing anything flammable we could find up, and even making a Molotov cocktail, that bonfire we had after church, and the time we went Geocaching. I do wish I had have gotten there earlier, as I didn't get to make it to the bottom where the lake is before it got too dark to get any decent shots.

I actually really like this shot. Granted, I think it is that feeling of relief at this part of the path. The light at the end is where we usually camp, and carrying all of our gear there is hell. Once you reach this point, the end is in sight...

Yep. That ledge is where we camp. And drink. Is that a good idea? Of course not. Do we do it anyway? Yes. Has anyone fallen off yet? No, not yet...

This took about ten goes to get right. Because the camera I was using was so small and light, and I had to zoom in to get this shot, pressing the button to take the shot would move the camera slightly and blur it. It was infuriating. One of the reasons I dislike this camera so much.

This is as close as I got to the lake on this adventure. Though it doesn't look it, the sun was setting fast and it was becoming too dark to get decent shots. I suppose that's one redeeming feature of this camera, in that it adjusts the light levels fairly well.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010449_zpsfiungqsl.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010449_zpsfiungqsl.jpg.html)
This shot is also a lie. This isn't at Blue Lake. This is when I was waiting in the car at my friends house in Panton Hill. I got to Bible Study fifteen minutes early and didn't want to be that awkwardly early guy, so played with the camera in the car. I actually really like how it reacts to the blue lighting in otherwise pitch black darkness.
Final thoughts:
Though I don't intend to use this camera very much at all (I probably won't touch it again once I get myself a DSLR), I do like a couple of things about it, such as how well it handles low light, and how vibrant the colours come out on a dull, overcast, drizzly day. I am glad I went out today, as I did get some shots that I do like, and has given me something to work towards.

These are some pretty great pictures! Parks and lakes are cool, they're a great mix of civilization and nature together.
I like these also for the fact that the chances of me actually visiting these places in real life are very slim, but it's nice to get a taste of what these places are like in the form of your pictures.
Nice stuff dude. :)

Cheers man! That is what I like about the areas I live. Even though they're developed and built up, there are still some cool natural places around to explore. I might even go out tomorrow afternoon and get some more pictures in towns to show that.

Sounds a lot like where I live! We have a few parks and lakes around here, but there aren't too many "untouched" forests or areas like that still around.
Also, your liking of roads and paths is natural. The viewer tends to have their eyes travel down the path upon looking at the picture for the first time. It's a psychological effect that always happens when you have a picture with a line-shaped feature on a picture, such as a path, railroad tracks, a highway, or anything like that. Like this one (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010364_zpse3er0syz.jpg). Your eyes will travel in a zig-zag following down that path upon first looking at it.
As a small tip for future photographs, one of the things I learned in my photography classes was to avoid cutoffs, if possible. So for example, that picture with the green bench (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010342_zps5evkgill.jpg), make sure the whole bench is in the picture and avoid having the edges get cut off. Centering it before you take the shot also helps. Since you're making it the main subject matter of your shot and that's the thing you want the viewer to focus on the most, it just works better if you capture the entire object in the shot. This picture (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010335_zpscuxekwcu.jpg) is really good because you get an awesome sense of depth of field in there, and there's no cutoffs, such as in having only half of a tree in the picture. The entire trunk of the tree on the left is shown. Same thing with this one (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010338_zpsvydtlxw0.jpg.html). The only thing that got cutoff is just the fence.
Don't hesitate to experiment also! Sometimes taking pictures at a different angle works well. A picture taken from ground looking up (as if the one taking the picture was a mouse) could be neat as well.

Thanks for the tips. I had forgotten completely about the cutoffs.
Chances are I wont go shooting tomorrow since it is absolutely pouring and is most likely going to be raining :( Maybe wednesday. But if I get a new camera Friday, I'll try and get out Saturday or Sunday to somewhere new.

Sounds good, looking forward to it. Good luck with the weather, though.

Update: I posted a couple of th better pictures on Facebook and a family friend who is a semi-professional photographer offered to lend me an SLR that she doesn't use any more. Granted I plan on buying one this Friday should the stars align (it is $550. I have $120 worth of gift cards to the shop, and get paid $380 from the factory I work at this Friday. My church owes me $250 for the last months work, so if that comes through like it should this week, I can get it. I will know Wednesday, seeing as the person who does payments at church only works Monday to Wednesday so if I don't have a payslip by then, I won't get paid this week), however if they don't, I'll borrow that until I can get my own.

Saw these on Facebook :D Nice! I really like the path ones haha. Especially this one. (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Lake%20Adventures%2012th%20of%20September%202016/P1010340_zpsz5sttudi.jpg) The colours are really nice! Also it's cool the see the fabled Blue Lake even if it's not looking very blue haha. It's a very unique Australian landscape with the gum trees and such. Easy to forget that when you see it every day. xD
Photography seems like a lot of fun! My brother has a fancy camera but he doesn't use it much anymore. I've never tried taking any photos for the sake of it, but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot one day. Good luck getting a fancy camera. :) I think it would be awesome to have a macro lens!

Thanks! That path one you shared is probably one of my favorites. I love the colour of the tanbark either side of the path. As for Blue Lake, it isn't too far from yourself. Next time you feel like getting outdoors, I'd recommend going there. The water is blue at certain times of year, this time of year not being one of them. But the water is also decent for swimming, come summer time.
As for getting a fancy camera... There have been a few shifts in circumstances in the last hour. I will write another page up soon...

13/09/2016: Going MacGyver on this b****
One of the reasons I want an SLR, or just a more professional camera in general, is to learn how to make cool shots with varying shutter speed, such as this (http://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/images/tutorials/shutter_matches1.jpg), or this (http://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/images/tutorials/shutter_car1.jpg). For that, having a tripod is near crucial, especially with the slower shutter speed. If you set the shutter speed to three seconds, it causes everything that remains still in those three seconds to be clear (like the car interior and person in the second shot), and everything not moving to be blurred, giving that cool effect. So if you have even the tiniest bit of sway or movement, it ruins the shot.
Tripods are expensive though. Except I have one.

*This was taken on my phone, which for some reason wanted to focus on the chairs instead of the tripod itself. One of the reasons I want a better camera. Manual focus.
I got this for free. About ten years ago, my dad wanted to get into photography (it didn't last long, but while it did he took some pretty cool photos), and needed a tripod. One day he was at the tip throwing some stuff out from work, and found this one, in practically brand new condition. There was nothing wrong with it. Granted it is probably a very cheap one, and isn't very durable (it's made of very light aluminum), but it still worked well as a tripod.
Anyway, Dad stopped using it and it wound up in my cupboard. However there is something wrong with it. Did you pick up on it? The screw is missing. Hence my mission today. To buy a new screw. I thought it'd be easy. I was so wrong.
I drove to Doncaster Shoppingtown, the closest shopping center with a Teds (Teds is a chain of camera stores here in Australia. I figured if I needed any camera accessory they would be the place to go). I parked as close as I could and made my way in with the tripod, asking the bloke at the counter if they sold the screws. He said they didn't and said something about a shop in the city that might, however he didn't seem to know what he was talking about. I ended up driving a bit further out to Greensborough Plaza to the Teds there, figuring that they might know what they were talking about a little more. I was right. Even though they didn't have it, they told me it was no special bolt, and that I could find one at Bunnings (Hardware store).
I made my way to bunnings, and managed to find what I needed. Even if it wasn't as good as those that come with a tripod, it'll do.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/13th%20of%20September%20Improvising/F8437C00-CF5F-4041-A0F7-B4B0B59E10E3_zps1tmizpk9.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/13th%20of%20September%20Improvising/F8437C00-CF5F-4041-A0F7-B4B0B59E10E3_zps1tmizpk9.jpg.html)
"But Jacob, I thought you just needed the bolt?"
Well you thought wrong. See...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/13th%20of%20September%20Improvising/518095C2-8D42-4E86-BC2D-E5F021A16C5A_zpsxvux8ch5.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/13th%20of%20September%20Improvising/518095C2-8D42-4E86-BC2D-E5F021A16C5A_zpsxvux8ch5.jpg.html)
The purpose for the washer and nut is simple. On a standard tripod, it has a similar setup to that. Granted the bolt has a head that is easier to handle, and the nut is a lot wider. The reason for this is that if it doesn't have the nut, the bolt will go into the camera, and then they will both swivel in the tripod, which is a pain in the a**. Hence the nut. It basically pinches the tripod between itself and the camera, causing the camera to sit tight and not swivel. Then the washer is just to stop the nut from rubbing against the tripod and damaging it.

This is it with the camera I am currently using. It works pretty well, except the fact that the nut is not wide enough. An easy fix for that is just to carry a 1/4" spanner or two with me to tighten it properly. Doing it by hand means the camera still swivels slightly.
As for the camera, I have an update on my situation. Usually this week of the month, I'd have 3 lots of income coming in. My fortnightly pay from the fertilizer factory I work at, my monthly pay from church for the paid sound work I do, and my fortnightly income support (because I am a student and I only get 16 hours at the factory a fortnight, and four hours a month at the church). The income support is weird. My stepbrother has the same thing, and it is dependent on both our incomes and our parents (his mum and my dads) income. Basically because we are both on it, we get paid more (as it costs our parents more having us both living at home instead of just one). One of the conditions is that he and I report our income once a fortnight, so that if we earn heaps, they adjust how much they give us accordingly. However the last few weeks, mine has dropped to about 1/3 of what it should usually be, because he keeps forgetting to report his income, and they boot him off. Then I have $50 a fortnight taken from that to pay off a Public Transport fine from years ago (long story that I am sick of thinking about...). Basically it means that the last few fortnights I have gotten nothing, and only just figured it out.
Basically, my pay from church hadn't come through yet. I knew that the factory pay would come through Friday, so if the church pay came through as well, I could afford to get the camera I want on Friday. However today my stepbrother went and got the income support sorted, so they're paying me properly again, and back-paying me for what I missed out on. My church pay and that come through tomorrow, so I will have more than enough to get the camera I want! By this time tomorrow, I will have a DSLR, with enough money left over to cover my bills for the month, and cover costs until next payday! I am so stoked. Part of me even wants to ditch uni tomorrow morning and go straight to the shops to buy it. Granted, I won't because I missed a bit of uni because of placement, but hell, I will be hanging for 11am when my class finishes tomorrow!

14/09/2016: A New Toy...
This morning I was supposed to be at uni. However I woke up at 7, after getting to sleep at about 3, and heard the rain hitting the roof. I was going to get soaked walking from my bedroom in the garage to my house, then from my house to my car parked around the corner. I said stuff it and went back to sleep, waking up at 9:30am. Then I got ready as soon as I could and made my way to Greensborough Plaza. It was happening. I bought it... My own camera.

I grabbed breakfast before making my way to my nannas house, and unboxed it. It is a thing of beauty. I also tested it out with a couple of shots there.

I tried taking a photo of her outside, but she was too hyperactive. The only way she'd sit still was to sit behind a glass door. Then I went to the loungeroom to try and fiddle with the tripod. She couldn't see me so she moved.

So one night we were bored, and came to this spot to blow stuff up. Anything flammable. Deodorant, fly spray, butane, methylated spirits. We even made a Molotov Cocktail...

This was the last photo I took whilst walking around Blue Lake, as that lovely weather disappeared and the heavens opened up. I ended up stuffing my camera into my jumper and running the rest of the way back to the car (I was about 3/4 of the way through the track). Then I got to the car and took a few more photos, that I actually quite like.

After this, I left. However I was halfway back to the road, when I realized something. I put my tripod down to take a photo in the park right before it started raining... Then left it there. I ended up turning around and parking the car as close to there as I could and sprinting into the park to find it. Luckily the park was empty, so nobody grabbed it.
I got home, and decided that I wasn't done yet, and took a few more pictures. This time, of something I am really eager to get good at shooting. First was mine...

After that, I decided to stop seeing as my internet is slow as balls, and this would take ages to upload already (I was right. It took nearly two hours...)
So keen to put this camera to the test. If the meeting tomorrow night doesn't go ridiculously late, I might give my car a wash on the way home and take some photos of it when it's clean. Otherwise, Friday! Once I catch up on the uni work I missed...

15/09/2016: The Beast
One of the reasons I was wanting to get a better camera was to take better photos of my car (among other things, but the car especially). I was working today, and had guitar lessons and church meetings until 9:30. Then I finally got my car washed and went to an empty car park to take some photos. Whilst I am still somewhat happy with the photos, I am slightly disappointed, in that they looked so much better on the camera than they came up on the computer. Either way they are still the best photos I have taken of my car, and I am keen to try with others.

I like these new photographs you took! And it seems like you got some nice equipment to go out there and take a lot of great photographs!
The new pictures of Blue Lake are great, but it bothers me that people would slather graffiti all over the trees and signs. Come on, people, really?
I really like this one (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/The%20New%20Toy%2014th%20of%20September%202016/IMG_0619_zpspcby1n7p.jpg) and this one (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/The%20New%20Toy%2014th%20of%20September%202016/IMG_0624_zpsyky6peqj.jpg.html). I know what you mean. Luckily, as s***ty as the graffiti is, there isn't heaps of it. That is the only tree graffitied. The signs are a bit. But it could be much worse. I can just imagine walking along the track and seeing graffiti on the cliff faces.
Haha the mystery behind them is I still wanted to take photos but it was wet xD

Ooh nice new camera! That's awesome that you had a tripod lying around. I really like the shots you took of stuff in your car! Also your car looks nice in those shots (that carpark sure looks familiar haha). Because it's wet and dark, the light reflecting off everything looks pretty cool! :)
I really like the colours in this one (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/The%20New%20Toy%2014th%20of%20September%202016/IMG_0556_zpswa8kq36x.jpg). Yellow bushes and blue sky!
Have you tried doing any of those shutter photos yet?

Haha target Carpark Greensborough ;)
Yeah Blue Lake always provides the goods.
Haha about half an hour ago. Walking around Diamond Creek at the moment taking photos. Was really close to the train tracks and there was a train coming soon so attempted to do some quick shutter shots. They came out pretty crappy though haha

16/09/2016: Diamond Creek
I was running on fumes. I had been up until nearly 1am the night before taking photos of my car, uploading them and posting here. Then I had to be out the door at 6:30am for uni... F**k...
Uni was supposed to go from 8-10am, but finished at 9:15. I made a quick run past Greensborough to pick up some stuff I needed for that night, and to pay some bills, then went home to pack some things for that night. Once I had done everything I needed to do, I had some free time (where I should have been working on assignments, but being a good student isn't my strong point...)
I called one of my mates who lived in Diamond Creek and asked if he was keen on going for a walk, so I could take pictures. And that we did...

Every year around Christmas time, I play Christmas Carols with a band underneath that tree. Done it three times so far. The second time, some little s**t stain kids intentionally broke a tree branch above my car. Wasn't happy...

Yes, I played on the train tracks. Don't tell my mother. In all seriousness, before I went anywhere near them, I checked my phone for the timetable. The next train wasn't for half an hour, and one had just gone past, so I wasn't going to get hit by a late train.

Probably more Sarah and Xanthe since it is nearer their hoods. But still very cool. And some of the stuff looks licensed, or very close, eg the costumed pikachus. If I didn't need to get work done on my car this monday, I'd have gotten them Hoenn badges (even if they're out of order). Anyway, moving on.

STRAYA!
I got back to my car parked at my mates place, feeling tired as hell, and drove to church whilst I waited for the band to arrive for band practice. Whilst I waited, I messed around with the lights, and took some pictures.

Then we had the youth boys sleep over. Didn't get many decent pictures, because people were moving too fast for me to manual focus and the auto focus was messing up. At first I didn't realize why, but the next day I was talking to the cameraman from church. He said he was having trouble getting his video camera to autofocus on the stage, as well as the other blokes camera. He figured out it is the LED lighting. Because of the different shape of the light waves (from what I gathered) the autofocus can't pinpoint what to focus on. The house we were at for the sleepover is fairly new, and the guy who lives there is pretty loaded, so he'd probably have LEDs throughout the whole place. I managed to get manual focus for this shot though.

That's all folks. We watched a movie, played Halo and got to bed at 1am. I got to sleep at nearly two from having to hit one of the youth kids with my pillow every time he'd talk until he finally got the message to shut up...

Wow nice find at that store! :O They're probably not legit stuff. Maybe factory rejects or something. But they still look pretty good. Those badges are nice :O I don't think I could have resisted them xD
I reckon this is my fave this time round: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Diamond%20Creek%2016th%20of%20September%202016/IMG_0773_zpsshsdi0w7.jpg
Also that kinda looks like my dog behind that fence haha!
I think this one has a lot of potential: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Diamond%20Creek%2016th%20of%20September%202016/IMG_0845_zpscgot2ujj.jpg
Would be cool if the fence was a bit more in focus further along. Then it would look really cool against the blurred background.
Looks like lots of fun! :D

Yeah I know most aren't legit. However I do think a couple of them are such as te mega pikachus.

17/09/2016: The E-Town Bandit
*The title is from Schoolies. We stayed in Eltham for a week, and one night had a bit to drink, which ended up with us wandering the streets at some ungodly hour, and climbing onto a bus shelter. A photo went on Facebook, and my mate Zach gave it the caption 'E-Town Bandits'.
As you may have figured out, this particular day, I decided to shoot in Eltham. Before that though, I had to do some work at church. As I got out of the car I parked in the usual spot I park in when the place is mostly empty, right by the door. However for the first time I noticed something.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Eltham%20and%20Campfires%2017th%20of%20September%2 02016/IMG_1023_zpsl9agcngp.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Eltham%20and%20Campfires%2017th%20of%20September%2 02016/IMG_1023_zpsl9agcngp.jpg.html)
It's a good thing they don't enforce that... My pay would be docked beyond recognition...
Anyway, once I did this I made my way to the park in Eltham, and took some photos.

This bloke... Another schoolies story. I didn't have my license when I did schoolies, so the stuff outside of our week of gaming, such as teaching, or band practises, I had to walk to the station, and the quickest way from the house where I was staying was through this park. Occasionally I'd walk through there at night, and be on edge. One time, I didn't notice this bloke. Saw him at the last second and jumped out of my skin...

I like taking shots like these. I have noticed that 90% of my shots are in parks of trees and paths, and like to do some stuff different. I just need to develop that eye for nice images outside of what I usually do.

So funny story. I took this shot, then walked through there, and found three girls who all looked about fourteen hiding under the bridge, gossiping, swearing and smoking. Kids these days...

So I was about to head back to the car until I saw this path. It was not concreted like the rest of the paths, so I was curious to follow it. I am glad that I did. I stumbled upon this...

This was cool. My only complaint is that the only thing separating me from my car was a overflowing creek. It was not even a hundred meters away but I'd have to walk a kilometer to get to it. I contemplated checking the timetable and doing the Stand By Me solution (crossing via the train bridge) but ended up deciding against it, and having to walk back around, this time taking a different way to get more shots.

After I got back to my car, I drove to KFC and met up with some friends, before driving to one of their houses and having a campfire there.

I'd like to get better at using shutter speed. I am trying to figure out how to do a better job of compensating for the changes in light it causes (quicker shutter speed means less light, slower shutter speed means more, and Aperture and ISO need to be adjust accordingly). Though I quite like the photo I got of Nick. He did to. He made it his profile picture on Facebook. Granted, I took heaps more at the campfire but it was hard, as the screen on the camera was illuminated and made it difficult to look down the viewfinder in the dark and focus.

I like your shots of the bridge and I am glad you didn't walk on it. XD The library man has got me a few times too, don't worry haha.
It's a shame how much graffiti there is, really! That Platypus is pretty new and it's already covered in stuff. I thought there was some street art code or something that people wouldn't tag actual artwork, but I guess I was wrong. :P
I reckon you should try taking some pics at different times of the day. It would be interesting to see some different kinds of lighting! Dusk is one of my fave times, when you can see all the silhouettes of things against the sky. I'm not sure how well it would translate to photos though. And it's probably better when it's not so cloudy.
I really like these kinda pics where the background is blurred: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Eltham%20and%20Campfires%2017th%20of%20September%2 02016/IMG_1184_zpslzdnetun.jpg
Fire looks awesome too!

Yeah, I want to do some night photography, maybe in the city or somewhere else cool. I might take a few tonight depending on if I'm out late enough.

19/09/2016: Kangaroo Ground Feat. That Pain In The A*s Kid and The Big As Hell Kangaroo
I didn't plan on taking photos today, however was driving back to my dads house, and had to drive through Kangaroo Ground to get there. I had my camera with me just in case, so ended up taking a slight detour and going to the Kangaroo Ground Memorial Tower, hoping to take some photos from the top. The grounds were opened, but for some reason the tower was closed. However I decided to take some shots of the grounds.

This was when my time at the memorial tower came to an unexpected halt, with a small annoying voice. Nearby some flowers I was taking photos of, was the groundskeepers house. On the other side of the fence was a tree with a boy who looked like he was about nine or ten. He shouted out to me.
"You're not supposed to walk in here!"
Then why is there a path? I told him I drove in and my car is in the carpark.
"What're you doing?"
I told him I'm taking photos, hoping he will shut up soon.
"The sign says you can't take photos!"
I told him I saw no sign.
"It's down the bottom!"
I walked down the bottom of the driveway where the signs were. Nothing about photography. I walk back up to my spot.
"Did you see the sign?"
I told him there was no sign, getting more irritated by the second, and started taking photos again, and he kept yelling at me that the sign said I can't take photos. Eventually I get sick of the little prick, and leave. I'll probably send an email to the groundskeeper and let her know the kid is driving people away.
I pulled over somewhere down the road and sent a couple of texts to my friends who live in Kangaroo Ground, asking for the best places to take pictures. One of them told me that there is a walking track by the old tip. So there I went.

I was crapping myself when I took this photo, since Kangaroos are vicious, and this one was a big boy who wasn't hopping away after seeing me like the rest of them did. I was ready to sprint at a moments notice.

I decided to call it quits there. I had gotten my dose for the day. My plan is to sometime get some photos at night of stuff more than what I have been shooting. I am more just waiting for the right opportunity, such as when friends are heading out.

Wow, you actually saw kangaroos at Kangaroo Ground! WHO KNEW!
Anyway, looks like you got a lot of good shots. :D I loved the one with the caved in ground, it looked like. And all the kangaroos resting in their confident poses. xD

"Hey baby."
That male you got a shot of looks SO BIG! Geez. I'd have been crapping myself too. XD
Those stupid kids. I wonder if they troll people like that all the time or there was a sign and you missed it.

Haven't forgotten about this. Got a bunch of assignments due. Then I have five months off! So much time for photos...

Haha I was at that tower last weekend. It was still closed for renovations. That's weird about that kid... Why would anyone care if you took photos or walked up there?! xD Nice job catching some kangaroos. I see a bunch when I walk my dog on summer evenings and I'm always worried they'll attack. xD Usually they run off in the end after staring for ages.
I like these two a lot!

20-27/09/2016: A Week of Small Things
I forget how difficult it is to get back into the swing of things when you are out of it for a while. I had assessments due and was flat out with that. I got them all done on time, and am pretty sure I passed them. And I have been out to take photos a little. Just never got around to uploading them. This week didn't have many so I will put them here.
20/09/2016: Kids Program
Once every school holidays, the people who run Kids Church at my church do a holiday program, that runs for a day. Each one has a different theme, and they have different activities and a show to put on for the kids. This one was music. Hence why I was involved. Myself and a few friends formed a band for it, and played a cover of Viva La Vida by Coldplay, and a punk rock style cover of Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, complete with guitar solos! As I am also somewhat proficient with a video camera and editing, I helped with the 'Make a Music Video' activity. This involved filming two full music videos in under and hour each and editing them in a tight time frame to premier that afternoon. The second in under half an hour...
As for photos I only have two to show, and I didn't take one of them.

This was the stage for the program. That guitar on the left is my pride and joy. I actually had a nightmare about it last night. I accidentally left it somewhere where the heat got to it, and it was ruined. I was heartbroken.

And this is me after. I was wrecked. I left my camera on the sound desk, and my drummer grabbed it and took photos, as well as one of the sound guys, who took a few selfies. Granted, not very flattering ones so I can use them later...
23/09/2016: Road Trip In The Name Of Photography
This road trip turned out to be a failure. It was a last second, spur of the moment idea, and by the time we got moving we were racing against the clock. We were headed to Mt. Donna Buang, and if Google Maps was accurate, we'd have about twenty minutes of sunlight left. Just enough to get some cool sunset shots from a high place. Unfortunately, the road we planned on taking gets shut during snow season. What that means is that we drove the long way around to the other side of the base and up that way, missing sunset by a few minutes. My mate Nick (the drummer from before) had my camera in a car and took a few photos. Granted the only decent one (I am not saying that because its of me, but because of exposure, focus etc) is this one as we were backing out of the parking spot at church.

I'll have you know, the beard is much better now! Anyway, after we left Mt Donna (where I got literally no good photos!), we stopped at the Alpine Resort Hotel for parmas, then headed home.
24/09/2016: Pets
Not sure why but on this day, I visited Nanna (I usually drop by when I'm bored and hang out with her for a bit. Plus, free food.). I took this opportunities to get some photos of Spud and Phoebe (try and guess which is which).

After this, I went home, put my doona on the couch, got my laptop out and worked on an assignment. I let Bonnie in, and she crawled onto the doona. When I got up, I threw it over her and she didn't move, so I got a picture.

25/09/2016: Church
Once a month at church, the youth group runs the church service and we can do what we want. We decided instead of having a normal service and dinner after, we would incorporate the meal into the service, and rearranged the auditorium to suit.

When we were setting up for band, I noticed Katie, our singer, playing around with Michael's guitar, so snuck a photo, and actually quite like the shot, with the stage lighting and her being unaware of the camera. Also, see that screen behind her? We watched Pokemon The First Movie on it once... Be jealous...

27/09/2016: Back to Ringwood Lake
When I first started taking photos, I went with a crappy compact camera to Ringwood Lake. Since getting my Canon DSLR, I hadn't been back, so decided to head back and see how they stack up. Here are some shots.

08/10/2016: Hanging Rock
So it had been a few days since I had finished and handed in my final assignment, and I felt the urge to see more of the area around me. See more of my state. I ended up deciding to drive to Hanging Rock, which you may have heard of because of a book called Picnic at Hanging Rock. It took me a while, but I finally found someone to come with me. One of my youth kids, Lachlan, who is 15, and also into taking photos, though he didn't bring his camera.
We arrived and the first thing we found was this...

It is definitely used to people in that kangaroos either flee or beat the living s*** out of you if you get that close to them. It was really cool, just chilling there, soaking up some rays.

One thing I loved about hanging rock was how natural the climb was. Like, they didn't knock out a heap of it to make a concrete path, but used the natural ledges as steps to get to the top.

14-16/10/2016: Spring Camp 2016
On this weekend, we made the roadtrip to Phillip Island. I took a fair few photos, however a lot have youth kids, so I can't upload them here. However, with the exception of a few, I can upload them to Facebook (I just need to find out which parents haven't allowed their kids photos to be put on the Facebook Page) and there is no rule against me linking that, so I will provide a link to the full album later.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Spring%20Camp%202016/IMG_1699_zpstrs3wndm.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Spring%20Camp%202016/IMG_1699_zpstrs3wndm.jpg.html)
Michael and I headed up a few hours early to get all the PA gear set up. When we finished, we jammed.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Spring%20Camp%202016/IMG_1701_zpsd8knkny5.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Spring%20Camp%202016/IMG_1701_zpsd8knkny5.jpg.html)
It was getting to dinner time, and we had a bit of time before the rest of our group were supposed to arrive, so Michael and I walked over the bridge to San Remo so he could get food and I could withdraw some cash. On the way I took photos. I especially love this one how the sunset makes the tree glow.

Late 2016
So I have actually taken a lot of photos, however haven't uploaded them. The main reason was due to me getting a new computer. I went from a MacBook Pro back to PC, due to the better specs. Tonight was the first time I have regretted it.
See, with Mac, and I loved this, there was a native tagging feature. I'd tag all my uploads green, all my photos to print red, ones to email yellow etc. And from there I just highlighted and uploaded or copied based on colour. Windows doesn't have this. On my Mac, picking photos and uploading would take twenty minutes max. This took me an hour and a f***ing half...
I decided to use Windows native Photos app. This was good. It had all my photos in one place organized by date. I'd just select the ones I wanted. So I selected about eighty. However it wouldn't let me drag and drop it into photo bucket. I had to do that from Windows Explorer. Easy, I'll just create a folder, copy them there and use that. Simple. Bulls***.
It took me a while to catch on, but what was happening was that for some reason, it was copying the files from temporary memory, and between me pressing copy and paste, it was deleting them from there. And somehow, a few photos I really liked and was proud of disappeared from their folder. That has got me pretty down.
In the end, I had to copy and paste five at a time. Just to make sure they copied properly.
Here they are.
Youth Unite and a new toy
This particular Friday Afternoon, I spent my hard earned payslip from scrubbing seaweed tanks and making snail pellets, on a new lens. A 55-250mm zoom lens. This was a few months back. And I have had some real fun with this.

These are both my mate Ash. However the second photo is an example of why I wanted this lens. Other than being able to take photos from a distance, when zoomed in, it gives a really shallow depth of field, which is something I wanted to experiment with.

I also had a lot of fun seeing how the lights affected the drum kit and the shot. Note, this was at another church. Not my one.
Melbourne CBD
My mate Luke has got this strange obsession with the city. Not sure what it is but he loves going there. Like, I don't blame him. It can be pretty cool. But he takes this to another level. Anyway, we decided to catch up and naturally, he suggested heading into the city. I brought my camera as I wanted to see what sorta shots I could get. This was the first time going in with my camera, so it was all new territory for me. We drove in and as we pull in the car park, the first thing we see is this.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Late%202016/IMG_2195%207_zps0dcol9e0.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Late%202016/IMG_2195%207_zps0dcol9e0.jpg.html)
An R34 Nissan Skyline GTR. Luke isn't a car guy, but even knows these are cool (granted that's from Fast And The Furious). This bad boy has an RB26DETT engine under the bonnet. A twin-turbocharged 2.6L straight-six engine, that spits out 276HP. The Skylines are most recognizable by their iconic 'hot-plate' tail lamps, and the R34 stands out from the bunch with the slightly larger outer ones, as opposed to the R33It was beautiful. I got two photos of it, however this was the worse of the two. The other one was one lost in the fiasco of trying to organize and upload the pictures.

When sorting through them, I couldn't view the full size image, and only saw a thumbnail. I really liked this one, until I posted it here and saw the full size shot, with the bloke on the left. The one in the center though makes the shot. And he doesn't even know it....

That my friends is a Lamborghini Aventador. It has a 6.5L V12 engine, that produces roughly 730HP if my maths is correct. It reaches 0-100kmph (0-60mph) in 2.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 350kmph (210mph). Costs roughly $960,000 here. A good way to show you have more money than sense. Why? A Nissan GTR (R35, which is not to be confused with the R34 mentioned before. Different car) has a twin-turbocharged, 3.8L V6. An engine just over half the size of the Lambo. It does 0-100 in 2.7 seconds. It only has a top speed of 315kmph (196mph), however, let's be honest, no average Joe will get it to that speed. It costs $245,000 (https://www.carsales.com.au/bnc/details/Nissan-GT-R-2016/SHRM-AD-448177/?Cr=0), however that is the most expensive one on carsales and there are cheaper ones. You're paying $715,000 more for 35kmph more. $20,500 per kmph (roughly). Hence why if I became rich as hell, I wouldn't get a Lamborghini. It is paying for a brand name.
Lorne
A couple of months back, my friends Katie, Michael and Lauren decided to have a weekend away in Lorne for their birthday party. I couldn't stay overnight, so I came up and went home on the Friday. I arrived at the campsite to find it empty, and due to the lack of phone service, it took an hour to track everyone down. They went for a hike to the nearby waterfall, so we headed there.

This is the last photo I took before we found them. Getting to them involved a river crossing. I didn't want to go barefoot across the rocks, as my shoes were grippier and I didn't want to cut my feet. I got most of the way across the river, then SPLASH. Slipped and drenched my shoes.

After a little while we walked the half hour walk back. I walked it barefoot, partially because I don't wanna wear wet socks and shoes. And mostly because I am stubborn and pig-headed and the others thought I couldn't do it. I showed them.

We had a BBQ for dinner at a park near the beach. One point of entertainment was Darcy making a friend, who looked exactly like him/her (I can't remember if it was a boy or girl). The other was pass the parcel. As I was a musician who brought his guitar, I played the music, which to a degree meant I could delegate who got to open it. Then when the parcel ran out, we played with a bottle of 'Death Sauce'. I made it land on Katie as we have that sort of relationship. Then another girl there whom I had a thing for for a little while, until I realized she only ever responded to my messages when she needed a lift to and from Bible Study. Granted she didn't know it was for that. Afterwards I headed home for another adventure which I will discuss another time.

My mate Adam is going on a mission trip to Liberia. Being a fan of poetry, he organized a fundraiser with music and Poetry. One of the musical acts was Katie and Michael. I made sure to get a few shots. Granted most of them were either blurry (due to the low light and needing a slightly slow shutter speed) and the ones that weren't were all similar. So I picked this one.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Late%202016/IMG_3086%2011_zpsgmgk4cot.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Late%202016/IMG_3086%2011_zpsgmgk4cot.jpg.html)
This one was taken at Youth Group this term. We had it set up, and I decided to throw the camera on a quick shutter speed and get the perfect shot. I did it, even with the fairly shallow depth of field as well.
Ocean Grove
During mid-December, the church organized a trip for the young adults to go to the beach at Ocean Grove. The meaning behind it was that the young adults hardly get to spend time together without the youth kids ending up there. And when Youth Kids are there, those of us who are leaders are responsible. We have tried to organize something without kids there, but people didn't get the hint and brought kids along. So this was good. An event advertised specifically for young adults. I decided to skip out on the surf lessons, and instead take photos. I got plenty, however they are mostly the same, and some people I don't think would like to have their picture put up.

I'll be honest, until Raymond Island, I had kinda lost my passion for taking photos. However being here really helped me bring it back.

This was the first time I ever really experimented with Manual Mode. I had done Shutter Priority until now, which would allow me to input the shutter speed I was after, then the camera would sort out the rest. But this was good for me. Forced me to actually use the concepts I had learnt at uni, and I really liked some of the outcomes. That and my phone absolutely s*** itself, so for the first two days, I had no phone and ended up using my camera a lot.

One thing Raymond Island is known for is the large amount of Koalas living there. Something I like about this shot is the wideness. I have spent heaps of time looking into zoom but not much on wide-angle. I intend on getting a better wide angle lens eventually.

This evening, we walked to the ferry and caught that to the mainland for dinner. As we walked out, we found the sunset like this, so we took a few minutes to get photos.

Then it was like this on the Island a little while later. I wish I had my tripod with me so I could have gotten a better shot. Because I couldn't hold the camera steady, I had to light it up with ISO instead of a slow shutter speed, which made it look really grainy.

This is BJ, one of the other families dogs. If I remember correctly, he is about 14, and stone deaf. I snapped this shot as he was walking around, looking for food to steal. I wasn't quick enough to focus it manually and the autofocus was just that tiny bit off.

And this is my brother. I know, we look nothing alike. The first two nights, we were there by ourselves. Our parents weren't coming until the 29th so I had to look after him. I went out the second day to the nearest town to try and get my phone replaced by my carrier. Came back and he was burnt to a crisp...

This shot, though I like it, didn't meet my expectations. Granted it is my fault. My idea for the shot was to try and get the horizon, the water and the seat. I even looked up when the Golden Hour started and got there early to set up. Unfortunately, I could only have in the shot well lit and focused either the seat and the water or the horizon and the water. I got a new lens when I got home which might make the plan a bit more possible. I'll find out next year.

Then the fireworks. There are two lots. The 9:30pm ones to show the kids so you can put them to bed, and then the midnight ones. These were the 9:30 ones, as by midnight, there was no way I was sober enough to get a decent shot...

I feel bad I fell behind with checking these out, and thanks for the mention poke.
I've never been to Australia and your photos totally sell the place. You've made me want to check it out so much more. The parks looks beautiful, the shore looks fantastic, and the Melbourne images are really cool. And that Lamborghini Aventador is hot, but that's a heck of a price tag on that thing! As much as I'd love to drive it, I'd be nervous as heck about something bad happening to it. I think for that reason alone, I could never buy an exotic car no matter how much money I had. Plus I'm happy with my Dodge Challenger anyway. :3
Also, I was always curious about what your church looked like, because I know you talk about it quite a bit in your blogs and I was curious to see how it looks it comparison to the local one I go to. Quite a few differences, but it's still a really nice looking church though.
Overall, awesome photos. The Australia tourist bureau should be paying you commissions to showcase these. :3

Haha cheers. I do try. But there is plenty of church I haven't shown. Might take some photos there.

From the recent post, the CBD is about 45 minute drive, Ocean Grove and Lorne are about 2 hours south west, and Raymond Island is about 4 hours south east of me. Close in the grand scheme of things.

Cool, I'd love to see them. I've seen churches take on all kinds of different shapes, sizes, and forms. Definitely the ones in Paris were the most impressive (Notre Dame is awesome), but there are plenty all over the world that have amazing architecture. And even the modern ones still have a unique identity to them as well.

Haha Darcy was good fun. As for the bug I have no idea what it is. I just saw it so decided to get some close ups.
The new lens is a prime lens so it doesn't zoom. However it handles lower light a bit better. Means I can get a quicker shutter speed.

Ours is an old mud brick building surrounded by bushland. It is pretty unique compared to the other churches nearby.

I like going to Raymond island for holidays but for photos, probably between Raymond Island and Lorne.

So, I just saw the first picture here and totally thought it was a dead deer at first. Then I realized this is Australia, it's a kangaroo. Do you even have deer in Australia?
Seriously though, I really like your pictures. Neo is right, this is making me want to come see Australia.

Actually, today my house got sprayed for spiders. They're crawling out from their hiding places and dying everywhere. #EXPfarming.
On a slightly more related note, I am thinking about hitting up Blue Lake an in hour or so. The sky is looking like it'll be good when sunset comes around. Clear enough that there is colour, but with some clouds to reflect it and make cool patterns.

And I am here now and praying for a miracle. Half the sky is perfect one side and crappy the other. Guess which one the sun sets on. Let's hope it works out. I got my chair and had a nice chat with a bloke riding a motorbike around here (which is illegal but he seemed nice enough).

So I was planning to upload some photos tonight. However when do things ever go to plan?
I went to Church to do some work and arrived there and noticed that I was smack bang in the middle of the Golden Hour. It bathed the grounds in this beautiful golden light. I had my camera in the car for a moment like this, so spent about half an hour taking photos, as I remembered Neo Emolga being curious as to what my Church looked like, and honestly the place looked beautiful. Then I got home and looked at them on my PC and realised very quickly that it wasn't my best work, and why.
When working with a camera there are six main settings/elements I adjust.
White Balance: White Balance basically tells the camera what colour the light is. For example the light is a different colour if you go from a sunny day to a room with white LED lighting. If you don't tell the camera what colour light you are in, it won't capture the colours as well as it could. It is something I tend to forget about until the last minute.
Shutter speed: Shutter speed is how long the shutter stays open and reveals the sensor. This affects the shot in two main ways. Firstly is motion blur. In some shots you want a little bit of blur for effect so you let the shutter stay open a little longer. In others you want it crisp and perfect, like an action shot. The other way it affect the shot is the amount of light that gets let in. The quicker the shutter speed the less time there is for the sensor to detect light so if it is too quick and you don't adjust the other settings to compensate, it will be too dark. Or the other way around. If you leave it open too long and don't adjust the other settings it'll be washed out and white.
Aperture: The aperture is basically a hole that can be adjusted in size (referred to as F stops). Basically, the wider the hole is the more light gets let in and that's it. At least, that's what I thought. Turns out it does something else as well. The wider the aperture is, the shallower the depth of field is. Basically if you take two shots that are exactly the same, one with the widest aperture and the other settings compensating, and one with the smallest aperture with the other settings compensating, the first one (wide) will have much more blur on the stuff that isn't the subject than one with the smaller aperture.
ISO: I am not 100% sure about how to use ISO properly yet. I see it as a last resort to affect the light. My camera has the settings for ISO as 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400. Each one of these lets more light into the shot (somehow). However there is an unfortunate side effect, which is that the photos become grainy if the ISO is too high. Because of this I tend to leave it on 100, only increasing it when necessary.
Focal Length: Focal Length is basically how zoomed in the lense is. It is measured in mm. The higher the focal length, the shallower the depth of field. The lower the focal length the wider the shot.
Focal distance: How far away the subject of focus is. If I am focusing the camera on a subject five meters away, the focal distance will be five meters.
My way of using the camera tends to be this. I pick the white balance setting best suited for what I want to do. Or I forget and do that last. I frame the shot and focus it to get the right wideness and depth of field, and take a test shot with the fairly quick shutter speed (as I rarely use slow shutter speed) to see how I need to adjust the other settings. Basically, I keep the ISO at 100 and widen the aperture until I have enough light. If the aperture is as wide as it goes but it's still too dark, I lower the shutter speed gradually until I reach the maximum I am willing to use. Then I start pulling up the ISO.
Basically I had that mentality today for the shots I did. I was using a fixed 40mm lense that has a wider aperture then my others. I would have usually been using my 18-55mm lense for this, but decided I hadn't used my 40mm enough since I got it. Long story short, instead of slowing down the shutter speed and increasing the ISO, I widened the aperture too much when I wanted more light. The result of this was a bunch of images that were crisp and clear on the focal point, which was one small part of the shot, but blurry as f*** everywhere else because the wide aperture made the depth of field really shallow. Lesson learnt. Don't hate the ISO. If you use it right, it stops s*** like this from happening.
On a side note, tomorrow looks fairly clear and sunny. The way I drive home from church has an amazing view of the sunset (It was perfect last week but I didn't have my camera...) so maybe if I'm lucky I can get a few nice shots then.

So I have been taking a lot of photos recently! Unfortunately, they are all for youth events. On the plus side, I am getting better and more confident at taking shots with people. On the negative side, I can't show 99% of those shots here for legal reasons.
Apollo Bay
For my dads 50th Birthday, we went away to Apollo Bay. I was only there for three days, but got a few shots.

This was technically at home. My family were at Apollo Bay, but I came out one morning and saw this guy. My dad loves the King Parrot's that we get in our backyard so I got a snap of him.

Whilst the colours aren't too great, I like the view. This beach was where my stepbrother planned on bodyboarding. Before we got there. Turned out to be way too dangerous for that...

Seeing as the day before my idea was ignored and the place we went to sucked, and this place was on the way home, we stopped at Sheoak Falls in Lorne, where I had gone a few months earlier. It was cool seeing it in summer with it mostly dried up, as opposed to crossing water in spring. My family complained about the hike most of the way. Weak...

New Lens
So yesterday I shelled out $180 (which isn't too much for a lens) and bought a new lens. The 40mm one I bought in Janurary wasn't cutting it in low light and I wasn't a fan of it. So I got this one (which was actually cheaper) to use. I am keen to put it to the test at Youth Group, as that's when I need it's low light capabilities. Anyway, here are some test shots.

Trying to be creative
So tonight I had a friend's birthday dinner. I asked her if I should bring my camera along, and she said I could if I want. I wanted to as I wanted an excuse to test out my new lens. Unfortunately, I didn't know many people at the party so wasn't comfortable taking photos of people. However one of my mates and I got a little bored and decided to try and be creative with the things on our table.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5832_zpsuomcpl4u.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5832_zpsuomcpl4u.jpg.html)
To be fair this was my mates shot. Due to the lens having a very shallow depth of field, the only way we could keep my half eaten cake and the glass in focus was by having my mate take the shot, as they were directly next to each other from his point of view, but slightly behind from mine (if that makes sense). Still a good shot, and I can take credit for configuring the camera.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5836_zpsp4se8iry.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5836_zpsp4se8iry.jpg.html)
This one was mine. It was my mates idea, however he couldn't seem to get the shot. I think he was struggling with just how shallow the depth of field really was. He was struggling to focus on the right point. I'm proud to say I got it first go!
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5859_zpsinw105ut.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Trying%20to%20be%20Creative/IMG_5859_zpsinw105ut.jpg.html)
I really like this shot in that it reflects the light well and gives it a whole other look than just a phone sitting on the table. Upon seeing the outcome, I then changed to a setting I hadn't used much before to test it out...

Wasn't as nice as the original but it got me thinking of how to use Monochrome. I then had an idea based on Chloe's bedroom wall from Life Is Strange. Lucky for me, my other friend Beck, always has a notepad and pen with her...

I wish I had have spent more time on this to perfect that focus! This is the best shot, and all of them has a slight part of the writing out of focus!

When I began running out of ideas, I pulled my zoom lens from my camera bag, and began trying to capture the light reflections in the glass of it, and had a little fun.

These are definitely great. Like you said, working with focus and depth of field can be tricky, but these still look neat.
That's definitely a unique light in that second picture.

I looked at all these and then forgot to comment haha. I love the rainforest boardwalk one. It looks really great and the lighting came out just right!
I like your creative shots too! You should do more of them! The phone one and the lens have some pretty cool lighting going on. :)
Do you do any editing after you take the photos?

April 2017 (Because I am tired and can't think of a creative title)
The last few months I have been slack with my scrapbook, however I got reason to post now, so I have a few shots from the last month (seeing as most of them involved people).
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/April%202017/IMG_6219_zpsph5vv2s3.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/April%202017/IMG_6219_zpsph5vv2s3.jpg.html)
This was taken from a lookout near church after the service a few Sundays ago. I brought my tripod with me and decided to try my hand at some long exposure photography. I was quite happy with this shot of the stars. Funnily enough, I tried again the next night in much better conditions (further out so less light pollution, less moon etc) and couldn't get anything close to this. Still got a lot to learn.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/April%202017/IMG_6557_zpslavvvcbl.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/April%202017/IMG_6557_zpslavvvcbl.jpg.html)
Whilst this shot isn't particularly special, I threw it in to show something. This is using my newest lens, the 50mm f/1.8. The reason I got it is because of the f/1.8 which basically means it lets more light in and creates a shallow depth of field. Depth of field is the distance of focus in the shot. This show shows just how shallow the depth of field with this lens is. Check out the blur in front of and behind the cards...

I was staying in Ocean Grove that weekend, and tried to get some nice shots of the sunset. Unfortunately, there was a bit too much cloud (there had been a storm that afternoon)

I got these ones a little later. I really like how the second one nearly looks like some sort of painting.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/April%202017/IMG_6736_zpsxsmkebmc.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/April%202017/IMG_6736_zpsxsmkebmc.jpg.html)
That night I gave long exposure photography another go and this time it paid off. Whilst it is only good for still scenes (such as this (even stars move too much)), I love the way it lights up the shot as opposed to bumping up the ISO or opening the aperture. It is a better type of light.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/April%202017/IMG_6753_zpsphwpqhrm.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/April%202017/IMG_6753_zpsphwpqhrm.jpg.html)
This is what a minute exposure looks like...
Now for the fun part. For my birthday, I put all the money I got aside, and bought myself a drone. A DJI Phantom 3. Good news: I already got the hang of flying it. Bad news: Laws around here about drones are so strict to the point where there are few places I can fly it. Some rules are:
-Only in daylight and clear conditions.
-Must be in line of sight
-Not within 30m radius of cars, buildings, people etc
-No higher than 400ft (120m)
Like, I get the need for rules. I just wish that it didn't make it so difficult. I got it yesterday and have only flown it for like half an hour because of this.
I flew it at church (since the property is big, and I work there) and got some cool shots from the air.

Wow the one of the night sky is really nice! That's cool you can take such a good photo with your camera! Ocean Grove looks nice too. I was there earlier that week haha. We were lucky to have perfect weather and then when I got home it was storming. xD
That's awesome that you got a drone! I had no idea there were so many rules about it. The drone's camera looks pretty great!

The XR6 and the Maxima
Last night I got bitten by the photography bug again. I wanted to take photos of cars.
I originally organized with my mate Zach, who drives a Mazda MX5, to meet up and take photos of his car, however due to it being cold and wet outside he decided to wait for another day. So I decided I'd try and get some shots of my car and see both how my newer and better lenses work, and how I have improved (since I haven't done a dedicated shoot of my car since the day after I bought my camera). However that would be lonely, so I called a mate and told him I could use some company and would take some shots of his car first.
I left home at about 6:30, planning on stopping by the carwash on my way there. I had been driving for about half an hour before realizing I stuck the camera battery on charge and forgot to take it. It was back at home. So I ended up spending an extra hour driving to and from Ringwood from Eltham/Montmorency to get it. When I finally got to the car wash, I gave my car a wash for the first time in months, before meeting my mate Jesse at the car park. We decided to shoot Jesse's car first, since he had washed his earlier and it was significantly more dry than my own.

This is a 2012 Ford Falcon XR6. You American's probably don't recognize this. This is made by Ford Australia. The Falcon is their family sedan (@Suicune's Fire drives one a little bit older than this if I remember correctly), and the XR6 is the sports variant of it. This is armed with a 4.0L in-line six cylinder engine, putting out 261hp. It is a very nice car, and one of the few cars owned by my friends that would beat mine in a drag easily. My one beef with these shots is the reflections that are visible of the tripod and sometimes of Jesse and myself.
Next up was my car.

I really wish that I could afford to get the door fixed. I did that about a month after I got my license in the Eastland Carpark, and two and a bit years later it is still there haunting me...

One of the things I love about my car is the rims. They are stock, but they are good stock. Most modern cars come with these ugly as hell, over the top rims. These are nice and simple but look elegant/tough (not sure how it does both, but it does). And when they're clean (which is rare) they look magnificent.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g267/Wisteria1995/Maxima%20and%20XR6/IMG_7499_zpsa2jjphcd.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/Wisteria1995/media/Maxima%20and%20XR6/IMG_7499_zpsa2jjphcd.jpg.html)

This last shot has got to me a little. See, I made it my cover photo on Facebook. That is me in the shot, using the Canon app to set off the camera. And I love the blue glare that cuts across the shot. The reason it has gotten to me is more people being a**holes.
Rant ahead
My 'mates' (I quote that because I am getting to the point where I am just sick of these people and will happily drop contact with
them (not because of this specifically but because of what they're like as people)) like to make fun of me for liking my car as much as I do, by basically flat out insulting and hanging s**t on it. If it were once in a while, I wouldn't mind. But it feels like the moment I put any photo of my car on Facebook, it is just a matter of time before someone puts some mean comment up, and all the others who like to hang s**t on it like it. I get that it's silly to let it get to me, but it just feels like they're ganging up on me and making me look like an idiot.
But hey, here is one way I can make myself feel better. By looking at the facts.
My Car: 2001 Nissan Maxima. 3.0L engine. 227hp.
Daniel: Drives a 1996 Holden Commodore Wagon. 3.8L engine. 205hp. The engine is 26% bigger yet puts out just under 10% less power... And my car is the piece of s**t according to him.
Adam: Drives a 2003 Volkswagen Golf. 1.6L engine. 101 hp. Yet he believes it is quicker because it is a manual... That's not how a gearbox works buddy...
Matt: Drives an AU Falcon. 4.0L engine. 192 hp. Even worse than the commodore.
Jesse: To be fair, I know he was actually kidding around, but he is the only one in any position to make fun of my car.
You know what I have noticed about my mates who are actually cool about my car and the ones who do nothing but hang s**t on it? The ones who are cool about it are the ones that are mechanics and actually know what they're talking about...
#rantover
Other than that, I love these shots. I'd like to try them again with a better tripod but for now, I am happy.

Hey guys! So I haven't been taking too many photos for the sake of taking photos recently outside of Youth Group. Because of the kids being under 18, I cannot post copies of the photos here. However I am allowed to put them on the youth group page, and there is nothing to say I can't post a link to that here.
So yeah, if you wanna see the photos I take at Youth Group, and what we get up to, check this (https://www.facebook.com/pg/xfactoryouth/photos/?tab=albums) out! All the albums with the format Term 2 Week 4 from the last year or so, as well as SYG are my photos, so check them out!

Haha the youth kids and their parents like it. Some of the parents don't manage to get too many nice photos of their kids, so they like it when a really nice one shows up on the page. I am only watermarking them because facebook reduces the quality on upload, then reduces it again on download. So the life cycle of it is:
I upload it (quality drops)
Someone downloads it (quality drops)
Someone reuploads it (quality drops)
My reasoning with the watermark is that I have written in the description if you want a copy without the watermark, contact me and I'll send a high res copy. My way of making sure my work stays looking nice haha.

Haha I do a lot of stuff, I'll admit. Last night we did a leaders hunt. Basically we go to a shopping centre, and half the leaders dress up and hide and the youth have to find us. I was hiding so I gave my friend Jasmine the camera and she took these (https://www.facebook.com/pg/xfactoryouth/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10154537450271296) photos.
Up next, well this is our last week for Term 2. We have two weeks of Holidays, then Term 3, which I just made this banner for this week.

Hey guys, so tonight (assuming I don’t go straight to sleep after work, as I am running on about 3 hours sleep), I’ll update this for the last few months, assuming I can find another way to host files as photobucket is now stupid.
For now, check out this (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pA6FA60B46sw0GBFYEI1nADWtSmC8HqS). A video I put together for youth group. I do plan on adjusting some things such as the font (I don’t know what I was smoking when I picked that font) and making the blur at the end smoother. But the footage itself came out really well!
