[SEASON 2] Stalkers RPG General Chat Thread (The Secret Clubhouse!)

[Neo Emolga]

Tucked away in a hidden area of Silvercoal City, this small apartment building serves as the home base for Emissary operations. The civilians of the city aren't aware this once quiet and vacant building is being inhabited for now and it seems it's safe from the dark presences that have penetrated the city itself.

Just a few notes:

You're a Pokémon now, so you need to think of yourself as one while talking in this thread!
You don't have to use this thread for working out the puzzles and stuff, but you can if you want to.
You are totally free to make as many separate discussion threads in this subforum as you need for working that kind of stuff out. In fact, I highly recommend making threads based on what your thoughts are, the things you find, possible note-taking, and what decisions to make next. Keeping things organized and keeping in close communication with your teammates will definitely help with this game.
Think of Suicune's Fire and I as narrators. But we'll still show up here every now and then. :3

Good idea. I'm probably going to go with Luxray, with the Rescue/Escape skill, since I like playing as healers. I'm not sure about the Perk yet, First Aid & Security look good but I could go with any.

I actually texted Xanthe something similar cause if I play for RP purposes, Altaria is more of a healer. xD I think Rescue/Escape and First Aid go well, or Escort/Protect and Security/Diplomacy. Security caught my eye, though (I have bad luck).

Just a heads up that the skill & perk combinations really mean nothing other than your preference. :] Don't feel like you have to pick a set like that. Your perk and skill can be opposites (to the degree that they are) and it would still be just as effective. :3c

Now, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, since we can't save everyone. But let's try to make this run a good one.

...On another note, I think we have a decent setup! We have all sizes, all sorts of skills and perks and are only missing a Flying-type Pokemon. I believe this is a good start. Or, well, pre-start, I guess.

Indeed, it's a great spread. :3 Could do with a few more larges, I reckon, but that's all up to you guys. There will be some type requirements here and there, so having a few larges would come in handy but isn't vital to the game's success.

I AM SO PUMPED!!!!!! Let's just say that there are many more things to be done this time around... I hope you guys like side missions. ;)

Yep, it's gonna take a lot longer. >:3 11 Stalkers, over 200 places to search (we haven't counted xD), 128 NPCs, 20 side missions, PLUS the much more elaborate sin purge ritual. :3c

Just to let people's know, Neo and I are hoping that this time everyone can get a bit more of a turn at the important stuff. We implemented Sanity for that reason: if one person encounters something important in a Stalker storyline, they will often sustain sanity damage. This means that they must take a break while other people might get a go at a similar thing.

With timezones, schedules, and everything in between, it can be hard to get a good go in. With this new day/night cycle, hopefully it'll make it a whole lot easier for everyone to get in on the action. To give you an idea, there'll be a window of time where you can post an action during the day, and then you must wait for the night cycle to roll around before you can post another action. The cycles wait for Neo and I to have answered every post, so everyone will get the same amount of turns (unless you miss an action submission window). We're fairly confident that this new system will make things a lot more fair, and timezones/schedules won't get in the way nearly as much. ^-^

OK, so, big ol' strategy talk incoming.

My take on the current state of affairs is that things with Security or other protective perks ought to be checking out the abandoned areas on the West side of town. Last time in Serenity Town (goodness it feels so long ago, I'm not even sure that's the name of the place we saved!) there was a lot of Stalker stuff in abandoned areas or non-inhabited areas. I suppose they're going to up the ante on booby traps considering how... Effective the last one was. I'd also suggest hitting up the subways/metros, as the Stalkers enjoyed Underground areas last time... Though they may have changed up tactics this round. I can't tell, but either way, it may be worth it.

I also suggest someone takes a very fast action to hit up basically all areas relating to law and all persons relating to them as well, with the highest rapports possible. They will be following the case; they will have groundwork knowledge (That helpful Jolteon from the town) that we definitely need to get things going, and they can share suspicions that we can follow up on, and start picking up the signs and connecting the dots properly. The Stalkers of last round had various names to run away from really fast, a love of Underground areas (remember remember, S.U.N.K.E.N.), a theme (poetry, math), and a preferred method of killing (drowning, disembowlment, incineration, ect). I'm not sure if any of that will hold, aside from the names.

Oh, and if we somehow get knowledge of a Stalker (or sufficient suspicion) in advance of discovering their hideouts, I suggest that people come in expecting that for traps. They will try to use things that they themselves are immune to or heavily resist. Or have the Security Perk. That also helps. If you do not however... Well, just come prepared.

Given what happened last time... I didn't take Security was because it was one of the more common skills while First Aid kind of wasn't, at the time. I'd be happy to switch over to something less represented to make sure that we're not lacking, though I think we're good as long as we have two.

I don't know how that even works. I'm going to assume that since Mew is Psychic it has to do with her, and not think about this further.

You see, this is precisely the problem I had as a Volcarona before back at Serenity Town; at best my bonuses were neutral because everything cancelled the other out, so I had to do all the adventuring instead (and got blasted in the face for it). Though, if you have Restrain/Diplomacy, this isn't as much of a problem, but if you don't then, well... Uh. I'm kind of out of options there, other than switching, which is rather inconvenient. stupid racist Pokemon! At least in this game it's not just straight positive/negative for type, like before, so we may be able to spin that to our advantage (or not).

Of course, Ghost types don't resist Fairy and aren't weak to them, so I don't see why a Mimikyu would have any problems with that. Or maybe I'm missing something...? Ugh.

These Interviews are subject to a Rapport check, which is based on the type chart and evolution stage. Shared types generate positive reactions, not very effective relations generate a more modest reaction to the NPC, super effective relations generate a more intimidating reaction to the NPC, and having an evolution stage that's closer to the stage of the interviewee creates a more positive reaction, while having very different evolution stages generations a more negative reaction. Being the same species as part of the same evolution line (like a Raichu talking to a Pichu) automatically creates a very positive reaction.

So not sharing a type won't have as big of an impact as last time. The catch? You don't know who's going to react better to modesty or to intimidation until you try.

Oh!!! Good old Microsoft Excel. :) Having a spreadsheet allows for everything to be set out cleanly and clearly. We'll be writing the responses up on the fly, but the personalities of each NPC are documented in the spreadsheet. ^^

There are 10 dark types. The least amount for a single type is dragon, with 7. Most have 10-13, with 13 being the highest. Yes, I ensured that the types were spread relatively evenly. I remember at the beginning, I accidentally had like 22 grass types and I had to cut waaay down. XD Mostly it was using the RNG pokémon site, but I had to manually decide on a few to fill some type spaces.

It won't overcome a ^Large Pokemon^ condition mainly because while that may involve a high up shelf or ledge, there's not enough room to fly, such as a location inside.

Levitate also comes into play if the Pokemon has it (it's the only Pokemon ability put into action in the Stalkers RPG because some Pokemon completely rely on it).

Yeah, sorry to say, but by dropping Flying for Fairy, you become subject to ground type traps, but on the bright side, you're resistant against the Fairy type ones. I guess it does balance itself out.

After discussing things with Neo, we've come to the conclusion that allowing pokemon with wings to fly, although makes sense, also means we would have to let pokemon who know Surf to access the water areas without the required gear or being water-type, and at that point we have to keep allowing for exceptions and it'll get too complicated, sadly. :c

That's correct, but if we wait and perform the ritual, we'll be able to save their souls! Which is a better outcome anyway, especially since we'll be able to keep identified Stalkers from killing anyone with our restraining abilities.

I have a bad feeling that things killed by Stalkers in the, err, condition they cause to the town aren't exactly living it up even if they deserved it. No evidence, but I have a bad hunch on that much. It's some insidious ritual conducted by what is probably some hellish afterlife, and knowing how that works there's good odds that they'll enjoy kicking as many dogs as possible in the process-condemning every soul killed to the Abyss would be a pretty good start.

Let us not assume that this will actually be easy to assemble this time, either. We got very lucky with the Sin Purge ritual last time; it was relatively simple, nice strong stuff we worked with, and we managed to get everything together before we even figured out all the Stalkers to the hundred percent so it was also more practical. I doubt either will be the case this time, and if we go too hard for it we may tip off the Stalkers what we're up to, which will make them destroy as much of it as possible, which will make this extremely hard. In other words, we may have to take killing more seriously than before.

Though, I can see the appeal to that. Especially since you don't have to deal with their ugly hole-eye faces again. I can safely say that the forces of the Abyss do love their ability to suddenly lack eyes to spook someone.

Though, that is a good point, on the Restraint thingy. In theory. not in practice, we don't have that many people to restrain all the Stalkers, and there's no telling if just repetitively capturing them would do us any good more than harm; after all, they're here to figure out how they failed, and if they realized Emissaries like us were involved, well, that'd be bad. It'd be a hell of a lot easier for them if they had an inkling of an idea regarding that person who keeps repetitively kidnapping them and restraining them in the night hours... Remember, they did have a way of somehow knowing who we really were before, if we directly confronted them. Or at least Epitath did.

That's correct, but if we wait and perform the ritual, we'll be able to save their souls! Which is a better outcome anyway, especially since we'll be able to keep identified Stalkers from killing anyone with our restraining abilities.

If anyone is lost in terms of where to start I encourage them to either join me, or check out one of three places + interview those who work there: Law Offices of Mac, Mita, and Onsen; Silvercoal City Police Station, and Innocuous Investigations.
