Welcome to a new RP inspired by Pokemon Mystery Dungeon!
In this RP you have been turned into a Pokemon and must uncover the mystery of a strange new world. Glitch Pokemon have begun to unravel the very fabric of this new world, and the Guildmasters have sent for promising individuals who may be able to help. Start your own rescue team, recruit new friends to progress in your adventure, complete puzzles, uncover secrets and save the Pokemon World... and yourself!


The Plot


You're a college student on a field trip to a new city by the sea... During some free time, a mysterious new student leads you to small island connected to the mainland only by an old pier. The island is full of old theme park equipment. In another life, it was a thriving tourist destination, but now sits abandoned and rusted by the sea. The remains of a ferris wheel stretch up into the sky, but you must keep your eyes on the ground to avoid the piles of rubble and scrap-metal. The structures above and around you creak ominously in the sea-breeze.

As you reach the center of the island, the new student stops and turns to look at the group she has amassed.

Without a word, she crouches down on the ground and begins to dig in the soft sandy earth. From the ground she pulls a strange silver sphere. It isn't until she stands up that you realise she isn't holding it, but that it's floating before her...

You want to turn to the other students in astonishment but your gaze is too firmly captured by the orb floating before you.

"I'm so sorry," says the new student. "But we really need your help." Your eyes begin to lose focus. What did she look like again?


...Everything goes white...

When you awaken you are no longer yourself. In time you will be asked to assist the inhabitants of this world which is under threat from some mysterious force. By creating your own rescue team you will complete missions to save the Pokemon of this world, and maybe even save yourself.


Gameplay
This RP will be led by a story mod who will push the story along and keep things on track. They will ultimately decide whether your actions are successful, throw new challenges your way and make sure no one is overpowered.

In this RP, you will play as a human who has been turned into a Pokemon. You will have the chance to form a rescue team and recruit other Pokemon to join. You will be assisted by a Partner Pokemon who is your second in command. As you recruit new Pokemon, you will have full control over each of these new characters. You will need the combined strength and abilities of these friends to complete puzzles, defeat enemies, and help to save the Pokemon World.

Each rescue team will be in possession of a Team Badge which allows you to recruit Pokemon. You may have a maximum of 4 Pokemon on a mission at a time including you and your Partner. If you recruit an additional Pokemon you will need to send that Pokemon back to the guild area using your badge. You can only switch out Pokemon from your party when at a guild location.

Your chance of recruiting a Pokemon will be based on RNG, however, there may be items or puzzles which can improve your chances.

I'm only gonna guess since it's something Sarah is running, buuuut. My guess is we were transported to the World of Pokémon. This being of only Pokémon as most PMD games are. If not, that'll throw an interesting threat toward us of possibly being captured by trainers. So time may not have passed at all, it's just an entirely new world to us.

Anyway a Reacue Team is a squadron of Pokémon that band together into a team to go on missions. Whether it be for just discovery, helping find missing Pokémon, missing items, etc. Missions can vary. Anyway Sarah can explain in case I missed anything major.

Yes you were human on the island. The orb teleported you far away and when you wake up you will be a Pokemon and in the Pokemon world. You will remember being human. The RP will start with you waking up in the new world or very shortly after that, so not much time will have passed.

The backstory is your human backstory which may have helped to shape your character. It doesn't have to be too detailed. Just where did your character live, what were their relationships like with other people, what kind of things did they do with their time, what were their goals for the future etc. That sort of stuff.

I think Chakra answered the rescue team thing well enough. It's just a team of Pokemon that undergoes different kinds of missions. :) So it will be a bit like GCEA where you might be told you need to retrieve an item from a dungeon or to find a missing Pokemon. On the way you may have to fight other Pokemon and natural obstacles, so you'll need to use your abilities/moves and those of your team to make it through.

I would say wait it out and see how many you get choosing Pokemon like I chose Pikachu (since technically it is a 2nd stage since Gen 2) and Emolga being a single stage. You don't want any unfair advantages or it being completely against anyone playing.

My initial thought was this. You wouldn't be able to use Pokemon that have pre evolutions.

He signed up for the college trip to take a break from the exams and things and meet up with a few new people. He also likes discovering new things and new places, so the trip to the seaside city seemed like fun and investigating the abandoned amusement park seemed interesting. He was totally not expecting what happened next, however!
Personality: Fun-loving and can also be full of surprises. Most people who have met Chris enjoy his company simply because he's a guy who knows how to have fun, but not be an egotist about it or do something that gives him pleasure but at the expensive of others. He would rather see everyone have a good time and join in on the antics. He's also generous and tries to be helpful, though he does have a mischievous side that comes out when people usually don't expect it, making it have that much more of a bang surprise factor. He also likes things fast and doesn't like to wait for long periods of time.

Backstory: Arden grew up on the family farm and recently went to college across the country to learn agriculture. She hopes to take over the family business one day. She loves animals and her family own a sheep farm. Due to an incident when she was younger, she doesn't like the ocean, but she agreed to go on the college trip to try and conquer her fears.
Personality: Arden is generally friendly and welcoming to others but this is mostly on a superficial level as it's hard for her to let others get really close and see the true her. Nonetheless, she desires to have real friends and has been working to be more open about her life. She is generally calm on the outside but there are certain situations that can cause her to panic. Her parents are quite conservative and she has been called uptight by others due to her penchant for always following the rules. Now that she's on her own at college, she has started to come out of her shell a little bit and work out things for herself.

Backstory: Ross loves adventure and entertainment. Mostly in all forms. Whether with his friends or family he loves creating fun at times. Though he may not be the best at everything he does. He tries to be helpful to others as much as he can. He's been studying the effects of Pokémon Psychology and how Pokémon inturpret certain things and actions. Though he never would've thought of this course had it not been for his family's Arcanine back home when his father feel ill and died early on due to an illness. It stuck loyaly by him as he rest on his bed and died. It never left his side. This intrigued Ross to start to learn more about these actions through his courses i college once he saw some of the classes that were offered.
Personality: Ross loves to interact with other Pokémon. Even if he can't understand what they say. He's found enteracting with them make connecting with Pokémon that much easier. Ross is very trusting, but this is also his downfall. He can be too trusting. Sometimes even the worst of sob stories can make Ross turn an eye to the unwise. Though when it comes time to show. Plans, strategy, and tactics are where he shines.
Likes: Most meats like ham, steak, burgers, movies, inspirational music, relaxing music, anime and manga, and video games
Dislikes: Those that turn their backs on friends, hot weather, BBQ,

Backstory: From a young age, Lance has always loved acting. His love of dressing up in extravagant outfits and performing for others lead him to persue a degree in the performing arts, though his laid back approach hasn't always gone down well with his teachers. He is also a huge card game nerd, and often spends more effort on making new decks than studying. Despite this, Lance isn't competitive, focusing on enjoyment over success both in games and acting.
Personality: Lance is very laid back, rarely taking things too seriously and almost never getting angry. He always tries to make other people happy, even at his own expence, and will never refuse a plea for help. Because of this however, he is extreamly gullible and easily manipulated.

Nah I don't think it's too late. Like Bulbasaur I guess you'd just need to make a character, get it approved, and either write yourself in someway. So it seems like you've been there the whole time (or in some unique way) or let Max do it. Though I'd see what they say first. I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem though.

Ugh... oh man, I'm such a sucker for PMD and I'm such a sucker for just being able to play a Pokemon. This is in like, the top 10 things I shouldn't do that I'm definitely going to try.

Question: I see that we're able to create our own teams and recruit NPCs (that I presume that we control once we recruit!) as we go. But would it be okay if maybe one of us were to join a pre-existing team and adventure with them if that team's player were to give permission? (naturally, wouldn't be in that team from the start, but perhaps join one as they go [preferably something that's developed ICly, as I prefer most things to be]--I mostly ask because I've fashioned Rye as more of a follower than a leader!). If not, totally cool, just lemme know.

Age: 19
Gender: Male
Backstory: A middle-class kid who has been bundled in a protective, sheltered cocoon for most of his life, one who has never known struggle. He's always been the quiet, mousy kid at school, with large round glasses and a wide-eyed stare that peeks out from behind bundled clothing. His parents emphasized school and nothing but--he graduated near the top of his class, with only one best friend. He chose a college where he could keep to himself and focus on improving himself and his studies, but ended up here.
Personality: Rye's quiet, shy, and a bit skiddish at first, but he opens up relatively quickly. He's optimistic and naive about the world, always opting to believe the best about everyone around them, which makes him overly trusting. He doesn't exactly realize that not everyone has the best intentions, and has managed to go through the world without realizing that not everyone grew up as comfortably as he did. Rye isn't the best socially--he's never had many friends, and has never been the best at making friends. When he finds someone that he thinks likes him, he will often cling to that person out of fear of losing someone he can actually get close to. Pretty self-conscious. A scholar, he loves a good book, as well as learning new things and reading. Patient. Doesn't know how to deal with his own emotions in any capacity because he's never really been forced to, so he can be a bit of a stubborn baby.
Likes: Puzzles, quiet places, a good book
Dislikes: Failure, crowded places, eye contact
Which Pokemon are you?: Joltik
Defining features/colours etc.: One eye is a pleasant, pastel green while the other retains the deep, powdered blue that's characteristic to the species.

Special Ability: Perceptive--all four of Rye's eyes are pretty observant, so he's great at noticing little details and taking a lot in at once, and also great at puzzles.

Well past of the mechanics is recruiting so I think collab teams will be ok but I probably wouldn't have more than 2 of you on the same team so that you can still recruit other Pokemon and stuff. But it's up to you, I don't have a problem with it. Just be aware that some of the mechanics we have set up may be a little more complex for you and you'll have to communicate to decide who does what. :)

Gender: Male.
Defining Features:

New to this world, Sampath materialized with the telltale cream coat and brown tips of Meowth-kind. He found himself fumbling about on his haunches -- a talent which, to most Meowth, would need extensive training came easily to a natural biped. The only commonality he missed, then, were claws, in their place mounted Quick Claws. Blunted and prosthetic, these are too dull to do damage as claws would, but could give Sampath a latent edge. If he allowed himself to cave to the tempting, whispering instincts welled up in his consciousness, he could feel the tingle of motion, vibration in his whiskers. He would find a terrific protectiveness of the big gold piece on his forehead, and a fixation for anything round and shiny.
Backstory:

A second-generation immigrant and aspiring science major from a household of lenient faith but stringent education. He arose from the rigor a kid-genius, the sort where skipping a grade or two in his early years was awarded with nonchalance, even expectation. But, throughout his childhood, he attributed little to his intellect but its ability to isolate — within the homogeneity of his home region, he stood alone on a education path that de-prioritized the "personal growth" of Pokemon training; he practiced idiosyncratic tradition in a world where cultural identity had been long phased out and forgotten. The boy staggered through life with a smile, nonetheless, and the few who got to know him — mainly teachers and alike "oddballs" — could describe "Sam" as an emphatic and engaging individual. He transferred to a place of higher learning — really the place. Was it the warm weather that got to his head? Whatever it was, Sam controlled a colorful, bacchanalian party scene. He divvied his time between studies and excitement with increasing preference towards the latter. It showed in his grades. With less funds coming in favor of an evident failure, he painted the excursion as a trip to "clear his head", rediscover a passion for passionless, detached research that had never inspired him, and buckle down — or escape everything. Who knew?
Purr-sonality:

Sampath, or "Sam" — he answers to either — has always been adept at veiling with good intention. He likes people-- er, Pokémon now, past the pleasantries. He'll listen keenly, he'll run you an errand or two, and then he expects the same. You'll owe Sam-- all outgoing and gregarious! There's a touch of rebel in him from the way he might recline back, the way he might choose not to hear choice phrasing. He's independent, and truly out for himself, in a sense. He says as he wills, which can resonate as brazen. He acts on impulse, which can agitate synergy. But, all-in-all, good communication often brings him on-board. He's the voluble sort, and he learns the most from engaging others on that front. He projects a persistently lax, sunny temperament, and considers himself more a cheerleader than a team leader; he would hate to take responsibility. Sam would say, "Oh, no, I couldn't! You should take the lead!" Just that humble, or lazy? Would such a diligent student in a past life be such a slouch? In every inch, he's the feline he was turned into.

Likes self-sufficiency; window-shopping; gossip; organizing; conflict.
Dislikes prosaicness; "pessimism" — acknowledging faults and the have-nots around him; rain.
Special Ability: To bring good fortune. Meowth-Sam may not know it yet but luck will tend to favor him in these curious 'Mystery Dungeons,' often in material gains. He is likely to come across items that are helpful for where he is, items that he may not understood but that could prove useful if he learns -- it's not so much having an instantaneous wish granted; it works in contrary to his impetuosity. He will have to learn more about the serendipity as he grows as an explorer.

Thanks for the response. I'm totally okay with it making our lives a little bit harder as long as it doesn't complicate yours too much, haha! I've un-spoilered and edited my SU above for approval. I'm a big sucker for mostly purely IC development, so how Rye interacts with everyone else will decide which team he tries to IC-ly join! Thanks so much.

Sorry for the late response on my part. Moves and abilities would be more or less personal choices within your characters story. Battles in the rp are more or less a story battles. We did this to give people creative choices.

Yep, what Max said. :) You incorporate moves and abilities into the stories as part of your characters growth if you like, bit they won't affect the actual mechanics of the battles which will be written out in RP style.

I like that approach, makes it more about what an individual Pokemon's good at. Would it mean moves/abilities wouldn't really be referenced by name in-character? Like there wouldn't be instances where a character could go, "That was a powerful Thunderbolt, Pikachu."

Backstory: Never one to really to settle down on any one thing, Adrian spent most of his life bouncing from one interest to the next. college and this trip is no exception. with no set major he'd try any experience he thought might lead him forward. his only continuous hobby was to collect and read comics and manga. Occaisonally he'd read some normal books as well, but he had a fascination for dramatic images telling stories.
Personality: Adrian is a wild, adventurous spirit who is constantly getting himself in trouble. Often times people wonder if he has any common sense when it comes to danger. He's an honest soul, but isn't above telling a little white lie if he feels its necessary, especially if it means he can go do something he's exited about.
Likes: story telling/listening to stories being told, extravagance, games/competition, generally having fun
Dislikes: people who whine/give up early, dry foods, things he finds boring
Which Pokemon are you?: Riolu
Defining features/colors etc.: no physical differences from normal
Accessories: wears red finger-less gloves and motorcycle goggles -he's going to find a scarf to complete his image, but he wanted it to be an actual item, not just for appearance-
Special Ability: Endurance of spirit - he can push himself farther than most other pokemon through mental strength, but this tends to mean he ignores pain temporarily and can rack up damage to himself-
