Chatbox

Chatbox would be a great option to bring users together. I don't think visitor messages alone is enough for a friendly conversation. We can have a chatbox as the forum isn't that huge. We've small amount of members which will not cause any overflow of messages. Many people will stay on the forum as they'll find something interesting and interacting.

I agree that the chatbox is a good idea, but the idea that it would be the main thing to keep members here sounds a little odd...and inaccurate. xD Many forums have chatboxes and that's not once made me go "Oh wow, they have one of these. Let's stay!" xD

Anyway, I guess we can see what other people think of this. If we do have one, I think we shouldn't enable non-members (and members maybe up to a certain amount of posts, like 10) to be able to post in it. xD Ya know...spam and whatnot.

Yeah, I thought about that part already as well, but that involves using another program, which not all people may have access to, like what Spook said. A chatbox might appeal to a lot more people. :]

I haven't seen a ton of use out of chatboxes on other forums. With a significant portion of our membership already using Skype, I don't think it would gain much popularity. People tend to draw towards a single system. I don't think a chatbox here will see much activity.

Chatbox is so boring and so slow. I'd like it if everyone can IM each other. I already have a way of doing that. Maybe it's just best to be left on your forum.

Thought I'd put a close to this conversation. It's already a month or so old, and I thought I'd just say this:

Throughout my experience on various forums, chatboxes rarely, if ever work out. If you want to chat with other PXRers, you'd best either go to the DCC, or get a skype and chat there. Chatboxes have the tendency to utterly massacre overall activity on the forums, and as such I will vehemently oppose them to my grave. They're nice on forums that don't actually have an offtopic section, but really, that section doesn't get that much love as it is. You're better off making threads and creating conversations and whatnot there. This has the same effect as being on a chatbox anyway, except you're actually contributing to forum activity and your messages aren't sitting listlessly in a chatbox.

So sorry, but no.
