New Characters in Super Smash Bros.

Hey guys.

So there are three confirmed new characters for the upcoming Smash Bros game so far. One was expected, another is going to make the fandom rejoice, and the third is ridiculously unexpected and is going to completely split the fanbase.

Expected: The Villager (Animal Crossing)

Animal Crossing is a cash cow for Nintendo, so quite honestly, this was not super surprising. Villager is pretty cool. His intro video involves doing things like catching Mario in a net and collecting a charge shot from Samus Aran, so he's clearly competent.

And the Fandom Rejoiced: Mega Man (Mega Man):

Yes, children, I /can/ hear the squeezing from here. Nintendo has listened to its fandom, and Mega Man has /finally/ joined the Smash. His intro video is sweet, with him seeming to take a bunch of damage from other character before losing it and Beating Up Everyone. I don't have much of an opinion on the actual Mega Man, but I know for fact that this is conclusive proof that Nintento is listening.

And Now to Shoot My Credibility Completely out of the Water: Female Wii Fit Trainer (Wii Fit)

Yes. You read that correctly. The female Wii Fit Trainer is joining the brawl. Nintendo stated that they wanted someone completely out of left field. My first reaction upon seeing the announcement:

"Oh, this is gonna split the fanbase."

For those of you who are skeptical of this new character, I /urge/ you to watch the intro video. My response after I saw it was:

"All. The. Yes."

Nintendo pulled something completely original no one suspected and sold it. Because the Wii Fit Trainer makes yoga awesome. Whether it's her trouncing Mario, Link and Kirby with a Warrior Pose or doing a recovery move using hula hoops, Wii Fit Trainer is /awesome/.

FUN FACT. The Villager was pulled from Brawl early in production, because they couldn't think of a good moveset. Evidently, this has since been rectified.


Also Sonic is reconfirmed, sporting his new Colors look. I'm a bit disappointed looking at the trailer though, because it seems they kept both Spin Dash and Spin Charge - two COMPLETELY redundant moves, which could have been better used for a new move. Blue Tornado, a Wisp power, heck, make him do the fire somersault. Just give me more variety :I >Still hoping for Shadow<

The real awesomesauce, though, is that Mega Man, Sonic AND Mario are all part of the same game. Mind, blown. It's like NOTHING I can legitimately think of. Sonic being included? Awesome sauce. Mega Man being included? Awesome sauce? The two of them being included together?! 2.5 TIMES THE AWESOME SAUCE!!!

As they've been announcing nobody but returning characters for quite a while now, I'm waiting eagerly for news of either A) people like Ness/Lucas or Snake who are the peak of the awesomesauce or B) New characters. Chrom's inclusion is almost guaranteed with Arena Ferox being part of the arena setup...Whether or not he'd replace Ike is debatable in this case, though. Outside of that, though, I'm patiently waiting for MORE NEW CHARACTERS!!

I thought that the Wii Fit Trainer was a strange choice at first, but after seeing her in action, I'm glad that Nintendo took a chance on her like they did on R.O.B., only they've done it better this time. Has anyone saw that meme where she's saying, "Take a deep breath... It'll be your last?"? I was going to show it, but I couldn't find it anywhere... :frown:

Anyway, Rosalina seems like a good new character now she's been revealed too. Sure, she might be a little OP, but it's nice to have an IMPORTANT Mario character that isn't named Peach. But I digress; her moveset looks really creative, seeing as though her and the Luma can do the same move. Let's just hope she can't generate more than one Luma, though, because all hell would break loose if she could.

Yeah, it seemed a little bit strange... However, I like that it's not only Gen I and the newest Gen being given playable characters. Also, Lucario was quite awesome, so he had that going for him. I expect Mega Lucario as a Final Smash, though.

Also, yes, Lucario's Final Smash DOES need to be different. His was too easy to dodge and just not powerful in Brawl. At most I only ever took around 15% damage at the end of the attack since I dodged most of it ^^'

I have no problems with which Pokémon they chose, since I'm not too picky about the XY starters. Just happy to see more Pokémon characters, though I can't wait to use Quilladin in battle o3o

Hnnng, I was so good with original Pokemon Trainer. :< Plus, why would you pick Quilladin, of all the second stages? Braixen has it beaten by a mile, and Chespin is pretty neat.

Mega Charizard X is a good decision, though. A really good decision. With the possible exceptions of Kirby, Meta Knight, and Bowser, Charizard has always pretty much been my best. Hopefully it has sweet moves to match its sweet appearance.

I'm glad Charizard's his own character. Not necessarily because I like him that much as a Pokémon, but because I love him as a brawler and hated having to surf through the other two to move him. That rock smash attack makes him, they better not get rid of it XD

Edit: Just saw the final smash, I was ninja'd. And although I'm not a fan of most mega man variations besides the original and the earlier X one, this still looks awesome o3o

I'm a tiny bit disappointed with Charizard and Greninja being in, I think one or the other would have been good (preferably Greninja to go along with X and Y as Charizard is very typical - although I do like him). I was hoping for a more unusual Pokemon to be added as well, much like Jigglypuff was (although I didn't use her it was neat to have a less popular and typical choice).

I'll probably play Shiek or maybe Zero Suit Samus depending on how they function. I may see what Pikachu is like as well since I was a die hard fan of Pikachu in N64 but yeah.

Greninja is one of my favorites, so I'm very happy that he was added to the roster. This might convince me to pick up a Wii U now.

As far as I know, the Trainer has been removed entirely. They've completely done away with characters that change/switch/transform during the game (with the exception of certain final smash moves). Hence, Charizard, Sheik, and Zero Suit Samus are seperate fighters in their own rights.

I literally started playing Megaman games the other day (with only a few seconds of the original, ZX and Zero beforehand), and I love his Final Smash!

Why can't Nintendo put the little guy out of his misery and but the rights to the franchise from Capcom? Legends 3, Universe and Online all looked great before they were cancelled.

Speaking of Jigglypuff, I watched this video today about a Pokémon bootleg in which it was called Fat D. So yeah, make of that what you will.

Oh, and I liked using Sheik, but wasn't too keen in Zelda, so I'm glad they've split up. Pokémon Trainer's split, on the other hand, killed me in more ways than you can possibly imagine; I used all three of them as part of my strategy (Squirtle for quick starting damage, Ivysaur to dish out more and Charizard for the final few attacks).
