Feel free to share what you're currently reading here! Anything you read counts! Books, magazines, fanfics, comics, etc!

I just started The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. I'm only a few chapters in, but it seems pretty interesting so far. I've heard good things about it, too.

I think it'd be cool if you wrote a sentence about what the story is about too, in case someone else thinks it sounds interesting and wants to read it too!

I have been attempting to read Through Black Spruce because it's by the same person who wrote one of my favourite novels;Three Day Road. I have not, sadly, had much time to read it though! I definitely recommend reading Three Day Road to anyone looking for an intriguing and moving novel. As for Through Black Spruce I don't really know yet.

Currently reading The Deed of Paksenarrion as well as re-reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also have The Fault in Our Stars lined up for once I finish my two current books, and once I finish that I intend on starting on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. So, my reading schedule is packed!

I feel bad. I've been trying to find something to read but I can't find anything where I live.

But, to be technical, I have been reading posts on the forum, so, that counts for something. ;D I'm looking forward to some of the RP's on the forum and the Community Locke to be honest! Those always prove to be good reads! :D

I haven't read in a while because I've been so busy, but whenever I get the chance, I'll go back to reading wherever I left off from in the CHERUB series. I really enjoyed reading them until I found myself with barely any spare time.

I'm reading a book called New Girl by Paige Harbison now. It's about a girl starting at a boarding school. She's there to replace a student who went missing the year before. Not quite as engaging as Forest of Hands & Teeth though!

Now reading a book called The Age of Miracles. It's an apocalyptic story about the Earth slowing its spinning. I'm only a couple of chapters in, but I thought the idea was pretty cool.

I watched a documentary one time about ways to destroy the world (it's not what it looks like) and one way they mentioned was to stop it spinning. The inertia would create huge, highly dangerous winds capable of taking out buildings haha

Currently reading Emperor of Icecream by Wallace Stevens. Quite an interesting poet - I sometimes feel like I can understand exactly what he's trying to say, and other times I'm completely lost. Very fun to read either way.

Also finishing up Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. ****, likewise very entertaining. It's a leisurely read though, so I've been having trouble completing it because of school. I'll finish it one day, I promise!

Hitchhiker's Guide and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep are pretty good books! I just watched Blade Runner (based on the latter) the other day, actually!

Right now I'm reading an anthology of dystopian short stories called Brave New Worlds. It's quite interesting, lots of different ideas!

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was pretty good; I just finished that book last week. It's scary how many different kinds of dystopia and post-apocalyptic works are out there... was planning on reading some more by the same author but I have to return my books to the library first.

Just finished a book called The Humans by Matt Haig, about an alien that comes to Earth to stop humans from discovering a mathematical proof that will advance our technology. It was a pretty touching book and funny seeing all the things we do from an outsider's viewpoint. Nice dose of perspective too!

Just finished The Da Vinci Code, really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading 'Fear and Loathing in La Liga' by Sid Lowe which is about the Real Madrid and Barcelona football/soccer teams and goes deep into their history. Especially interesting since we're learning about the Spanish Civil War in History at the moment, and a lot of the rivalry was born from the days of the war.

Well, because of my habit of dropping pretty much anything when one of my friends wants to hang out, I'm kind of in the middle of a lot of books. I've been re-reading Lord of the Rings for the million-and-first time and I've been making my way through Peter Pan, Child Thief by Brom (a horror re-imagining of the Pan story), Lost Souls by Kate Griffin, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and The Bookman Histories by Lavie Tidhar. Hopefully I'll be able to finish one of them soon...

Well, I started reading the first series of the Warriors Cat saga. I got kinda pissed yesterday because the 3rd book wasn't in the library.

Soooo... I checked out this military fiction called "Black Anchor". It's about this Chinese oil rig in the middle of the ocean. There was a fight about who got to own some of the land in there, and the Chinese decided to plop their oil rig in like nobody's business. Then some American mercenaries went in on jet skis and they're holding everyone on the rig hostage. Now some military Special Ops team called "Shadow Squad" has to go in, rescue the hostages, defeat the mercenaries, and do it secretly.

Even though it's a bit short, ((only 95 pages long)) I still like it alot.

I've never used an electronic reader, I love paper books too much! xD I feel like it would be kind of uncomfortable after a while to look at a screen, but I could be wrong.

I just finished Independent Study, which is a sequel to The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau, about a dystopian society where teens try to get into a prestigious University but end up having to go through crazy Hunger Games-like trials. It was pretty good but lacked a solid ending, I suppose due to the final book coming out next month. It would be nice if the book could stand on its own, but it definitely lacks any sort of conclusion.

Since I now take the bus to and from school, I have time to read on a regular basis and I've finished two books in two weeks, now I'm on my third. c:

First was Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. It consists of a central plot supported by short stories and poems about/written by the characters. Though I didn't quite understand the reasoning behind the character's main goal, and a bit of plot was tossed in the end of the book really randomly, it was still pretty good, though it wasn't as gorey as I had hoped or thought it would be. Since one of the first stories is about someone getting their intestines pulled out through their anus by the suction of a pool filter, I thought it could only get better and more gruesome from there. But unfortunately it didn't. /: Like Samurai Shamploo (if anyone has watched that anime) the best scene was in the beginning and it was nearly impossible to top. Not to say some of the stories later aren't gross, they're just not AS gross. One of the character's back stories say that she has a disease that causes people around her to get cancer and die (???), but then none of the characters die from cancer so it's kinda plot holed. Anyway, I'd recommend it, overall. It was a great read.

The one that I just finished yesterday was Hallow World by Michael Sullivan. It was kinda rushed in the beginning and end, and some things that happen are a bit of a stretch at to what would really happen. The main character Ellis tries to go 200 years into the future and ends up actually traveling 2000. Everyone alive at this point is physically asexual, look identical, and can travel using small portal makers. He does a good job of addressing how the near future would solve modern-day problems, and causing it to branch into his predicted future (i.e. everyone looks the same to eliminate sexism and racism, money was eliminated to erase poverty, futuristic technology erases the need for theft), but at the same time he overlooks some simple plot holes he created. How can Pax (a character from the future times) have a genetic abnormality (which I won't say as that gives away a piece of the ending) if everyone has the same DNA? Why is the language barrier small to nonexistent? After 2000 years you'd think there would be more slang, but I only noticed three or four words. Why didn't the government invest in solar power to prevent the Energy Wars that happened between modern day and the future? WHAT DOES ISP STAND FOR? THE MAIN CHARACTER ASKS HIMSELF WHAT IT STANDS FOR, ALL OTHER ACRONYMS ARE EXPLAINED, AND ELLIS GOES TO THE ISP HEAD QUARTERS AND STILL DOESN'T ASK. WHAT THE HEEEELLLL. The ending was really sudden and, again, was stretched a bit but whatever. It was a pretty good book, asked some interesting questions, and all that.

Okay anyway, now I'm reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, and I'm only about 30 pages in so far. It's written well, which is normal for Gaiman and I'm interested to see how the deity is incorporated into the story, as the main character Fat Charlie is supposed to be the son of a god. I'll keep you guys updated when/if I ever bother to finish it. :3

I'm currently reading a slew of things, but the one I'll discuss here is a Pokemon fanfiction called In Love and War by legionaireofthe10th on fanfiction.net. It's a story involving Ash Ketchum and his friends, where Giovanni has teamed up with Archie, Maxie, and Charon to reform Teams Aqua, Magma and Galactic respectively, to take over the world (big surprise, lol). He manages to take over Hoenn and Sinnoh, and soon sets his sights on Kanto. Ash, his friends, and thousands of other Pokemon Trainers and Coordinators must fight a war to push back the combined forces of the four teams. It's a really good read.

You didn't like them? :/ They're really well written as well as being...well, semi-original anyway. But I suppose it depends on what genres a person likes best. This was right up my alley. I swear, I can describe about 10 novels in this sentence: the main character is always a girl, she will fall in love with a cute/hot guy and she will be/become strong-willed and she will lose/have lost family members.

But anyway, at the moment I'm also reading 13 Reasons Why. Reminds me of a novel I read before called The Tragedy Paper and boy, was that a good novel, but right now I can't say I'm particularly enjoying 13 Reasons Why.

Haha, so true. The main character of Fire & Flood is a bit different in that she's completely pathetic and annoying and unlikeable. But that will probably change as she goes through all this stuff.

Well that's good that you liked it. I will put the next bit in spoilers for those who haven't read it xD

I thought the ending was pretty good and I think it ended well with her dying. The main thing I had a problem with was the "genetic damage" thing. It didn't really make much sense to me and I kind of thought the whole idea of their city as an experiment was kind of weird. But that might just be because I am a scientist so I am picky when they mention genetics. xD So I was a bit disappointed the author decided to go with that idea. But oh well. I'm not saying it was a bad ending because she died - I thought that was really well done. It's just part of me hates it when main characters die, and I was wanting a super-fun happy ending. xD But an ending like that wouldn't have done justice to the story overall, and I think it's teaching us an important lesson in self-sacrifice.

But yeah, the genetic damage thing was a bit iffy to me, as well. The whole time I was thinking 'whaaaaat?'. Like, all our genes are different to begin with, and it's our choices that matter. A GP could just as easily make the choice to destroy the world as a GD could. I kinda thought that was stupid, but ah well. I really can't wait for the second movie. :9 This series is getting me more pumped than Hunger Games, haha.

It's hard when main characters die after a whole series. You get attached and stuff. I'm just really glad Harry didn't die at the end of HP because it was always a possibility. xD But yeah, it was mostly the genetic damage thing I didn't like because it was pretty nonsensical.

I'm kinda looking forward to Insurgent more than Mockingjay, only because I didn't like Mockingjay that much, but the movie still seems like it's gonna be pretty good!

Anyway I finished a book called Beta by Rachel Cohn. It was really weird. About soulless clones who live on some perfect island serving humans. It got super weird near the end but I won't spoil it. Probably won't bother with the sequel. I'm now reading the 5th Deltora Quest book until I have a chance to go to the library. xD

I love the Terry Prattchet Novels, always have. Finally got around to picking up a copy of "Eric." Pretty funny as of now and includes, Rincewind, which is fun.

It's the afterstory of what happened to Rincewind after falling into an alternate dimension, which happens to be the same dimension that the demons and "hell-like" plane is. He comes back via a demonologist who wants to summon a powerful demon, but instead gets Rincewind instead. Fun stuff. And even though it's relatively short, haven't finished it yet. I don't get a lot of time to read on my free time v_v...

Good stuff, regardless.

I love Marissa Meyer, but Fairest is probably one of the most messed up books I've ever read. Levana is flippin' nuts.

In other news, I've been reading...a lot of books that should probably go unmentioned here due to certain content, but other than those...surprisingly a number of horror books. She is messed up, but I think she does a good job of explaining why she is messed up. It's not like one of those villains where they were just born evil, or mommy and daddy just didn't love her enough. It was a very interesting and badly timed culmination of things...and it explains a lot about her as fans of the series have come to know her up until Fairest's release. (And I thoroughly enjoyed writing a character analysis for her as a final project for a class for this reason.) Lol, Meyer does a good job of doing that with all of her prequel works, if you haven't read them.

And while the lovely Princess Winter is among my fav--nevermind, pretty much the entire main cast of The Lunar Chronicles are my favorite characters. I literally can't pick. But sad as it is to say, my username actually has its roots in Bleach. XD Which I have also been reading recently. Along with several comics run through Line Webtoon.

I feel I should be a bit concerned though when I was reading it and I recognized a character's description and I went "oh yeah it's that guy that's going to die later." XD I thought that to myself in the middle of class and I just kind of paused and made a .-. face and a friend of mine just leaned over and whispered, "What sadistic thought is it this time?"

But yeah, and while I haven't really looked into the Evil Queen's backstory (like the original fairy tale) from what I've heard, it sounds pretty accurate too so kudos to her. I just finished Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey. If you like YA mysteries with paranormal elements set in the Victorian era, then I totally recommend this book.

I'm now reading This Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel, which is written as a prequel to Frankenstein. I really do like some aspects of it, like the setting and the way alchemy is handled. However, I REALLY wish Oppel had forgone the love triangle. I've seen way too many pointless love triangles in my readings to ignore them when they come up; my tolerance is rather low. It's not bad enough in this case to turn me off the book completely, but it's quite distracting to say the least. There are a few other little issues as well, but that love triangle is my biggest complaint.

I really can go on about the book, but I'm not done yet and I'd rather not spoil anything about the story. So far, it has a 3/5 stars.

I just finished Life in a Medieval Village by Frances and Joseph Gies. It was fairly introductory but the subject matter wasn't all that technical either--only in a few spots dealing with the village's social and economic structure, much of which occurs in chapter three while discussing the Lord, who happens to be the central figure of the village whether present or absent. The authors laudably defend the villeins as people just like us. They aren't brutes or dolts which is the common misconception, but men and women living out their lives in a harder world. But I'll stop there before I go on anymore of a tangent because I didn't come here to write an entire review.

The duel voices really do help make it different, and it gets more "removed" from PJ as it goes along. I found the first book to be the strongest, but it's worth reading the whole trilogy. Bast is awesome.

I've been experiencing a bit of a reading slump as of late; I used to do most of my reading on the bus or during my lunch at work. Finishing school and having my daylong shifts cut has really taken a bite out of my traditional reading time. However, I'm trying to make the time, and have started a non-fiction called Bizarre London by David Long. It presents and briefly explores various themes that apply to the city, such as spies and hauntings. It isn't a very detailed book, however, and presents its content in a more "factoid" manner. This makes it a fun, fast read; perfect for reading before bed or on a short bus ride. That being said, it is also limiting and tends to leave me wanting more information on certain topics or facts. I know I'll be looking more into some of that stuff cx

And I could keep going, but it would turn into a book review, and that's not the point here. My library schooling is showing cx

I've been on a comics binge lately, but so far I think my favorite series has been New Super-Man and the Justice League of China, which is an amazing story about a bunch of superheroes who are recruited to be the Chinese version of the Justice League (so there's a Super-Man, a Bat-Man, a Wonder-Woman, and a Flash). On the surface, they're Chinese knock-offs trying to live up to the legacy of the good ol' JL, but as it goes on we learn more and more about each member of the Chinese team, and how they differ from their originators (the Chinese Wonder-Woman, for example, is a figure from Chinese mythology) it really delves into Chinese culture in both its traditional sense and the way modern Chinese view the West and how they imitate it while still keeping hold to their core beliefs. It's really interesting!
