View Full Version : [SU/DS] Pokemon: Journey of the Rainbow Goddess

The basic premise:
The fantastic Pokeworld of Ransei...an uneasy peace is shattered when the ruthless warlord Nobunaga begins his march across the eighteen kingdoms, leaving terror and despair in his wake. Amidst all the chaos, the people cling to a prophecy of hope:
"Upon the day the rainbow goddess reveals herself, she will embark on a great journey to learn the twelve forms of magic, then she shall usher forth a world of light and an age of unending peace."
Many speculated on who or what the rainbow goddess could be, until a girl was born in an unassuming town with an array of amazing magical powers. She could make crops grow from the most barren of land, call forth rain, heal the sick and wounded, and even make the dead live again. On top of this, she never seemed to age or get sick once she came of age. It was because of her gift of channeling magic into a song--a rare talent in Ransei--that she was named Juno--"sound of the tree"
The townsfolk did their best to hide Juno's identity as the rainbow goddess, but fearing that Nobunaga would foolishly try to kill a god, the village elder appointed a team of the villager's best warriors and magic users to serve as bodyguards, just in case.
You play the role of one of Juno's bodyguards--can you see her epic journey across Ransei to the end, and keep yokai, sects of evil martial arts, and Nobunaga's supporters away?

What kind of items would our characters have in their starting inventory?

Noblejanobii
At the very least, a character's starting inventory should have:
--1000 sen (the currency of Ransei)
--at least one weapon, instrument, or implement to fight with (if you choose to fight unarmed, you will be armed with knuckles, or gloves). You can get new weapons and items by finding them out in the open, for finishing sidequests (and generally doing good deeds), or by buying them in shops
--traveling supplies (food, camp gear, medicine, Pokemon care items, and so on)
--anything else you feel your character might carry given their background (items to practice a craft or hobby, items such as thieves' tools, or a rune dictionary) family heirlooms, mementos from someone important to them, items used in desperation moves, etc.)

Haven’t played Pokémon Conquest, but I’d like to try my best with this anyway. Though if I make a goof, please let me know!
Character's name (try to make it some somewhat Japanese, at least) Kaze Burakku
Character's age (age 14 to 17 is fine) 17
Character's physical appearance (what your character basically looks like) Kaze stands roughly 6’2” and weighs about 175 pounds. With short, black hair, a fair skin tone, green eyes, and a slightly muscular body frame, Kaze relies more on cunning wit, speed, and resourceful thinking rather than raw power.
Kaze wears a dark, forest green cloak over a brown cloth tunic, both of which have some wear and tear to them. He also has a few leather pouches on a brown leather belt that surrounds his waist. Meanwhile, he wears a pair of brown leather boots. Typically, he never uses blades and barely uses metal objects to begin with. He usually wears a smug smile as very little depresses him or gets him anxious, though it does get others wondering what’s he up to next.
Character's personality/known history (what your character is like, and what spurred them to be who they are today--and what they hope to be in the future?) Kaze isn’t like your other typical druids, who are mostly serious in nature and have strict guidelines. Instead, Kaze is more unorthodox in his approaches, willing to try anything and everything to get to a solution. He also doesn’t quit easily, and if he needs to make a run for it to survive, he’ll do it, but he’ll intend on still finishing the job later if he is confident he can (and usually he is).
He’s also whimsical and almost comically optimistic. Instead of trying to fight with pure brawn and power, he’ll look for other more devious and downright mischievous solutions instead. Very often his opponents don’t expect it, though a lot of his fellow druids often look down upon his less-than-honorable strategies that may work, but break the norm completely. His tactics are often encouraging to others, as where they might have given up, Kaze usually feels there a way to win, it’s just a matter of digging around to find it, and usually it’s a strategy that no one expects. He’s very much a wild card in that regard and his Pokémon have grown with him to be the same way.
Kaze was born in Greenleaf and lived there most of his life. All throughout his childhood, he loved the outdoors and staying close to nature and its Pokémon. From an early age, his parents forbid him from having Pokémon of his own and wanted him to grow up to be a tailor and inherit his father’s tailoring business, but he had no interest in it at all. After they were completely unwilling to compromise in any shape or form, he ran away from home and joined a small band of druids known as the Buranchi. At first the Buranchi were skeptical about Kaze’s abilities until they saw the young boy’s passion for nature unfold. Where others in the guild grew exhausted, Kaze was often “wait, the training session’s over already?” He thoroughly enjoyed learning the druidic magic and especially enjoyed the ability to become a Pokémon for a short while.
As all druids were given a Pokémon as part of their initiation, Kaze’s first Pokémon was an Oddish, fairly common around the Greenleaf kingdom as the Buranchi were limited in what kinds of Pokémon they could provide for their young initiates. Kaze named the Oddish Ōen as the Oddish seemed to be downcast being with other initiates that had originally rejected and disapproved of the Oddish while Kaze was just happy and appreciated having a Pokémon companion. As time went on, eventually Kaze befriended and added Dasshu the Emolga and Gairu the Minccino, who eventually became a Cinccino after Kaze evolved him.
When Kaze grew to be 14, he eventually took on assignments to help Buranchi’s effort’s to protect the kingdom and keep the forces of nature in balance, making sure those that sought to disrupt them were stopped before any of their dark plans came to pass. His enemies really didn’t like the experience of fighting against Kaze, as there’s almost no limit to the nonsense he’s willing to go to in order to meet his goals.
Now that Kaze is 17 but still very much a wild child at heart, he was chosen by the Buranchi to be the one to answer the village elder’s request to protect Juno at all costs. Seeing as how Juno was destined to be the harbinger of a new age of peace, Kaze was committed to lending his skills and experience to help Juno accomplish this critical goal. Still, to this day his combat tactics and strategies are a homebrewed mixture of his learnings as a Buranchi druid and his own unorthodox mischief and cunning wit. He’s confident whatever or whoever Nobunaga throws his way won’t be ready for what he’s got in store for them.
Character's skills (does your character prefer to fight unarmed, with a weapon, with magic, or with something else, like a puppet, paintbrush, or parasol?) Best way to think of Kaze is as a Dungeons and Dragons druid. His magic consists of the forces of nature (fire, wind, earth, and water) as well as his ability to transform (essentially Wild Shape) into a Pokémon species he’s seen up close before (so no legendaries, very rare, or extremely dangerous and untamed powerful Pokémon that would have been dangerous for him to approach) for a max duration of three hours before he’s forced to revert back to his original human form. Also, he can’t cast druid spells while as a Pokémon, but he’s able to use a few of the Pokémon’s moves (the more he’s practiced with the form, the more powerful the moves he can use).
In terms of D&D, Kaze knows Druid spells like these that are level 4 and under. (https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells?filter-class=3&filter-search=&filter-sub-class=&filter-concentration=&filter-ritual=&filter-unlocked-content=)
Typically, if he takes on the form of a Pokémon (all of his belongings and clothing merge with his new form), he’ll try to perform the transformation without anyone witnessing it in action, such as taking cover in a bush or hiding behind a wall. He also tends to like transforming into one of his three own Pokémon (Ōen the Bellossom, Dasshu the Emolga, or Gairu the Cinccino) and in battles, act and attack as they do, which really throws the enemy off as they can’t tell which one is Kaze and which one is the actual Pokémon. At first Ōen, Dasshu, and Gairu couldn’t quite understand what he was doing, but after years of deploying this fond strategy time and time again, they have come to expect it and know exactly how to work with it, which they’ve come to enjoy.
Kaze carries two main weapons, a brown, oaken staff about five feet long that he uses to channel his nature magic. If he were to ever become unarmed or unable to use it, he does have a backup yew wand that he keeps by his side, which isn’t quite as effective as the staff in terms of magic channeling and casting, but it’s still effective. And if even the yew wand were to leave his grasp or be destroyed, he’s still capable of his nature magic unarmed, but it’s not quite as fast and as effective.
Character's known Pokemon, if any (up to 3--any non-Legendary among the 896 known Pokemon is allowed)
Ōen the Bellossom – Ōen has been with Kaze since the very beginning and after being rejected by three other Buranchi initiates, he found his place with Kaze. A lot of Kaze’s personality resonates with Ōen’s. Kaze isn’t like a typical Buranchi druid and Ōen isn’t a typical jubilant, dancing Bellossom (which they both take a very satirical approach with and also throws off everyone’s expectations). They love their dash of mischief and breaking the rules and the norm and neither of them is afraid to get their hands dirty.
Dasshu the Emolga – Dasshu, on the other hand, was a mischief maker right from the start, stealing berries, fruit, nuts, and other prankish and impish behavior. He tried to steal Kaze’s lunch with such antics, only to run into a human that is already well-versed in this kind of behavior! Kaze caught the sky squirrel red-handed using his cloak and tried to tie him up into a sack, only he tripped and both him and the Emolga ended up crashing face-first into Kaze’s lunch of fresh fruit and berries, covering both of their faces with juices and mashed berries. It was such a comical outcome that the Emolga took a liking to this young trainer and decided to accompany him at first before ultimately becoming his second Pokémon companion after enjoying the antics.
Gairu the Cinccino – Gairu was found by Kaze as a Minccino that was abandoned and rejected by his original trainer. At first, Gairu was shy, doubtful of his own abilities, and a bit depressed, feeling like there was no one in the world that he could befriend and make as a human companion. He was about to give up and return to the wild to live on his own until Kaze and the rest of his crew showed up. Kaze saw the Minccino and offered him a berry, a kindness that Gairu was unfamiliar with. He decided to take a chance with this new trainer and accompany him. At first, Gairu was slow to adopt the kind of antics and nonsense shenanigans Kaze and his other two Pokémon enjoyed, but eventually he opened up and simply enjoyed the freedom of it.
Character's current inventory (what is your character currently carrying?)
1,000 sen (though Kaze doesn’t really live a lifestyle that relies too much on money)
Oaken Staff
Yew wand
Fruit and Berries (Kaze has a lot of these and knows the magic to rapidly grow his own)

Basically, imagine Pokemon in ancient Japan--that's Pokemon Conquest in a nutshell. This RP is mainly an attempt to expand and update the game to account for the three generations that have come out since then.

Cool, thanks, I can totally work with that! :3 And yeah, I'll try my best despite not having played Conquest before, but if I go WAY out and mess something up that really wouldn't be in line with the game and RP's setting, please let me know and I'll patch that up.

Hi there, I'm very curious to see where this goes! I've not played Conquest before, though I am familiar with a number of the NPCs featured in Conquest. I tried my best to do a bit of research, but if anything doesn't look right, please let me know~
Name: Fuyuse
Age: 16
Appearance: At first glance, most wouldn’t consider Fuyuse any kind of threat—she tends to look more doll-like than anything else. Her 5’6” height doesn’t make her particularly imposing or noteworthy, and she keeps her long, chestnut-colored hair out of her face by confining it to a braided chignon. Neither her amber colored eyes nor her face are very expressive, making it difficult to tell what she’s thinking or feeling at any given time. Her skin tends to stay well tanned, as she’s usually either out training or picking herbs/doing chores for the doctor for most of the day. When not training, Fuyuse is commonly found wearing a simple blue yukata patterned in varying shades of blue vertical lines. The sleeves of her yukata house pockets the young woman uses to hide a number of things, namely herbs and medicines, as well as occasionally her folding tessen, though that’s usually tucked into her obi. Her traveling shoes consist almost entirely of simple zori sandals, occasionally with tabi in colder weather...it's about the only time she cam be seen acknowledging cold weather.
Personality/History: Fuyuse remembers little of her past before waking up heavily injured just outside the border of Viperia when she was 12. She was kept company by a Ninetales and Croagunk that took care of her--and probably saved her life, given that it was the dead of winter--but they could do little to actually treat her injuries or get her back to civilization. Though she could not remember her own name, Fuyuse found that she remembered the names of her Pokemon companions...and that "bad men" wanted her dead. She and her Pokemon caretakers were eventually discovered by a traveling doctor (whom Htomi and Hanzo almost attacked) that took on the task of treating her injuries. For the first two months of their time together, Fuyuse barely spoke a word, often falling back to communicating with vague gestures and writing—she could speak, and often did so with Hitomi and Hanzo, but she did not quite trust the doctor enough to speak with him at first. Though the doctor made an effort to help the girl find her family, no one seemed to recognize Fuyuse, or know of a family missing a child, a Ninetales, and a Croagunk. After nearly four months of looking, the doctor (who had long since started calling the girl Fuyuse when she could not remember her own) asked her if she and her Pokemon would like to travel and help treat people with him. With nowhere else to go, she accepted.
Fuyuse’s memory, sadly, has not improved over time. Most of the memories she lost have stayed gone, and she tries her best not to dwell on this, choosing to make the most of her new memories with the doctor instead. Over the years, she’s picked up basic medical knowledge from her guardian—how to treat common injuries, how to identify and cure several illnesses, what herbs and berries to keep an eye out for when traveling, and more. In all actuality, Fuyuse found herself enjoying their nomadic life, but of course it could not last. While she and the doctor were out buying supplies in a small town in Avia, they were approached and subsequently attacked by a pair of warriors from Yaksha who seemed to recognize Fuyuse and her Pokemon at some level. To this day, she’s not certain what surprises her more—that anyone recognized her after nearly three years of travel, or that she managed to take both men on in a fight and win.
Fearing that more incidents like this would occur if they continued traveling, the doctor decided to settle down in as unassuming a town as he could find. This would have been fine, but then he insisted Fuyuse attempt to hone the combat training that seemed to have been given to her before she lost her memory. In the span of roughly a year, she’s improved at ranged combat and stealth operations drastically...and it seems to have been a good thing after all, as it would turn out the village Fuyuse and the doctor settled in was home to the fabled rainbow goddess, and she was in need of protectors.
In the four years they’ve spent together, the doctor’s outgoing personality hasn’t rubbed off on Fuyuse at all. Those who don’t know her would likely assume her cold, but the truth is that she’s just incredibly slow to trust, and Fuyuse is far less likely to speak to people she does not place some degree of trust in. That said, she’s reliable, and quick to pick up on things, rarely giving up on a task until she’s figured out a way to complete it. Though she doesn’t panic in dangerous situations, Fuyuse tends to be visibly distressed when faced with people who are injured, and will rarely settle down until she’s done everything in her power to help take care of the injury. Though her speech is rare and softspoken, Fuyuse does have a bit of a humorous side, she usually tells people she nicknamed Daisho “because of the swords,” which fits...but also, she’s amused by the idea that the name references his massive ego but small physical stature.
Skills:
Healing Knowledge - Having spent the past four years living with a doctor, Fuyuse was originally convinced she knew more about herbs and treating injuries than she did fighting. Turns out this wasn’t the case, but she can still treat most minor to medium range injuries, and knows simple remedies for a few common illnesses.
Tessenjutsu - Before Fuyuse learned to wield a kurisarigama, she was gifted a folding tessen (an iron-framed fan) and instructed in the basics of how to use one for self defense. She’s far better at ranged fighting, but she’s decent with the tessen in a pinch.
Kurisarigamajutsu - In the past year, Fuyuse’s spent quite some time learning to wield a kurisarigama, and it turns out she’s rather good at it. She’s fairly certain she received training with the weapon before her memory loss, given how quickly she picked it up, but she has no way to prove this. She tends to use the weapon in conjunction with her Pokemon partners, either herding her target towards her Pokemon partners, or allowing her partners to herd her targets towards her.
Pokemon:
Houndoom - Female - Hitomi
The oldest of Fuyuse’s companions, Hitomi is the closest thing to a motherly presence the young woman remembers having. She’s fiercely protective of Fuyuse and stays as close to the girl as she can, even in times of peace—it’s not uncommon to find her wrapped around Fuyuse’s legs, or laying on top of the girl’s feet. She trusts Hanzo implicitly, and knows the Croagunk so well that the two often do not appear to need to communicate in battle, but snaps and growls at Daisho frequently when his antics begin to annoy her. It’s actually not unheard of for the Houndoom to actually spit fire at the Sneasel, though she would never harm him...much.
Croagunk - Male - Hanzo
Much like Hitomi, Hanzo’s presence around Fuyuse feels familial, though he’s more of a big brother than a father. While Hitomi tends to stick closely to Fuyuse’s side, Hanzo has always been a few steps ahead or behind, doing his best to keep threats from ever approaching the girl. Though Daisho has a tendency to irritate Hanzo, the Croagunk has been attempting to teach the Sneasel to work in a similar fashion to himself so that Daisho can keep an eye on things in front of Fuyuse, while he can focus on watching the girl’s back.
Sneasel - Male - Daisho
Just as loyal as he is vain and prideful, Daisho’s the odd member out in Fuyuse’s team...and she didn’t choose him, he chose her. He attached himself to Fuyuse after she and her doctor found him injured during their travels and took care of him, however he refused to leave when they tried to set him free. He’s been the bane of Hitomi and Hanzo’s existence ever since, Daisho’s antics and habit of seeking attention from Fuyuse drive them bonkers, but at the very least, they know he’d do anything in his power to protect the girl.
Current Inventory:
1000 sen
Folding tessen
Kurisarigama
Assorted herbs and berries
Clean bandages
A small metal pot
A pair of waterproofed canvases large enough to protect Fuyuse and her companions from harsh weather
A woven bamboo basket fashioned like a backpack, in which she stores her pot, berries, bandages, and other objects she might find on the road

Character's name: Nakano Tanaka
Character's age: 17
Character's physical appearance: Nakano is 5’7” and weighs 140 pounds. She has dark blue black hair that she usually wears in a high ponytail. She has heterochromia with her right eye being a dark green and her left eye being a dark brown. She has a fairly muscular frame, especially her upper body due to her occupation.
Character's personality/known history: Nakano has a rather gungho personality. While she can be disciplined and serious as needed, Nakano won’t deny her sense of adventure. She greatly enjoys exploring the countryside and training with her Pokémon. Nakano also enjoys eating a lot, so it isn’t uncommon to see her snacking on something even when she’s really not supposed to.
Nakano was born in the Kingdom of Fontaine. She was born the daughter to a blacksmith and from a young age took a great interest in the art of weaponsmithing. Her father taught her everything he knew, eventually allowing her to forge the one of the two blades she wields today (the other he crafted himself).
Along with her growing skills in weaponsmithing, Nakano began to train in how to use the blade as well, excelling as a sword master from a young age. She adopted the Bravado style of sword technique, allowing her to draw the attention of her opponents to her and potentially intimidate them to give them a disadvantage when attacking. She furthered this ability through the Skirmisher discipline, which allowed her to learn techniques to protect her allies in battle.
All in all, while Nakano is very skilled with the blade, the biggest thing she brings to a fight is her ability to protect her allies while also dishing out lots of damage. This is part of why she was recruited in the fight against Nobunaga. Her training made her an optimal choice for protecting Juno.
Character's skills: Nakano is pretty much the definition of the home-brew Swordsmaster class in D&D. You can find a full run down of it here (https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Swordmaster_(5e_Class)) but I’ll detail what all major skills she has here.
She has immense skill with her blade and is able to perform repairs on her weaponry so long as she has the proper tools to do so. Her sword style, Bravado, gives her the ability to focus opponent’s attention on her and act as an intimidation factor to potentially scare them off or lower the strength of oncoming attacks. Her discipline of Skirmisher gives her access to the ability “Shove”, which allows her to be the recipient of an attack instead of one of her allies so long as they are in close proximity.
Character's known Pokemon: Kichirou the Dewott is Nakano’s only Pokémon at the moment. He is Nakano’s starter, being a perfect fit due to their common interest in the art of the blade. They often spend a lot of time training and sparing together. But when they aren’t doing that, they get up to all sorts of fun around Fontaine, especially when it comes to gorging themselves on food.
Character's current inventory:
1,000 sen
Two katanas (one forged by herself and the other by her father)
A supply bag
A bedroll
A waterskin
A day’s worth of fresh fruit

Heya, EmeraldSky, just had a quick question regarding your last post in the RP thread--is that supposed to be kind of like the tip you gave Neo earlier about the theater, or is that supposed to be an actual post/location change? I've tried looking over it a few times and I'm still really confused as to what it is.

It is meant to be a location change--since you are now officially out on the overworld.

Hey Emerald is the whole RP going to be this sort of narrative style or are we going to have more time to slow down and interact a bit? You mentioned the theater to Neo so my assumption is yes but I wanted to ask what sort of balance you had planned.

You will have a chance to slow down and interact a little--the theater is one way to build the world, give you a chance to interact with each other (it is encouraged for audiences to cheer for really good plays, and heckle bad ones) There are other opportunities for world building and exploring places too.

Character's name: Mirei Sumeragi
Character's age: 17
Character's physical appearance: Stands around 5’6, with long dark hair and a rather wiry build. She stands light on her feet, always looking like she could bolt away at a moments notice.
She wears a dark grey dress with dark red trimming and two dark red spots on the skirt similar to the spots on a Zorua’s head.
Character's personality/known history: Born to a minor noble family in Aurora, Mirei has a mischievous personality, liking to play tricks and pranks on anyone she can. She’s strong willed and stubborn at times, always begrudging to follow other peoples rules and orders, instead preferring to be the one giving the commands.
She has a strong ambition, dreaming of someday ruling the entire Ransei region, and as such has a personal dislike for Nobunaga, who she sees as a personal rival. However, she tries to hide this from other people, pretending that she’s just a trickster with no goal beside spreading chaos.
Growing up Mirei enjoyed playing war games, Shogi being a personal favourite, though she liked anything that was a battle of wits with her opponent, the longer term strategy required the better.
She was trained in the Yaksha ninja skills passed down from her ancestors, but found those lessons dull and barely payed any attention, only finding interest in the Illusion techniques they taught.
From her lessons she learned her families past as rulers of Yaksha, which lead Mirei to dream of reclaiming the kingdom for herself. As she grew, so too did her dream, with her families ancestral home becoming merely a stepping stone on the way to her new goal of ruling the entire continent of Ransei.
Upon hearing rumors of the Rainbow Goddess had appeared in a small village, Mirei wanted to assist her, seeing an opportunity to stop her main opposition Nobunaga once and for all. However, because of her lack of combat experience coupled with their desire not to anger the potential future ruler, her parents forbade her from joining the group.
Despite this, Mirei’s mind was made up, so she put what little of her training she remembered into action, sneaking away in the dead of night and making for Hajime, determined to see if the rumors were true, and if so join the Rainbow Goddess and put an end to Nobunaga’s conquests one and for all.
Character's skills: She was trained in the art of the Yaksha Ninja, but didn’t pay much attention. She is able to sneak around near silently, but that’s about it.
She also knows low level Illusion magic, being able to create minor illusions that disappear into smoke when touched, and can detect when magic is being used around her, but only if she makes a conscious effort.
Combat wise, she caries several Kunai, with one attached to a chain both for easier recovery and also to be used to trip or tangle foes.
Character's known Pokemon, if any (up to 3--any non-Legendary among the 896 known Pokemon is allowed)
Zorua ♀ - Arisu
Mirei’s partner in crime, Arisu is just as much a prankster as her partner. She is a direct descendant of the Zoroark partnered to the last Sumeragi ruler of Yaksha, whose egg was given to Mirei when she was a child to help teach her responsibility. Over time many believe that the Arisu corrupted Mirei, making her a prankster like the Zorua, when if anything the opposite was true. However, the pokemon’s pedigree prevented anyone from acting on these concerns, and so the two remain inseparable.
Venipede ♂ - Kin
Received as a gift for her 15th birthday. Loyal but with a sullen disposition, Mirei has yet to form a proper bond with him, believing that it is an attempt to give her a more “proper” pokemon to replace Arisu. Nevertheless, despite the perfect opportunity to ditch him, she took him with her on her journey, telling herself it was only because his poisons might be useful.
Character's current inventory:
25,000 sen. (She keeps it hidden from most people, pretending she only has about 1,000)
Two regular Kunai, and a third Kunai attached to a thin chain
A bedroll
A box of Ponigiri
Various medicinal herbs, each in separate pouches with labels for what to use them for.
A gold pendant shaped like a Zorua’s head.
