Hoorah, a Gallery! Title

Anyway, I decided to open up a little gallery for sprite stuff. This is also party to get me back into spriting because I really do need to!
Most of my sprites are quite old, including some of the ones on show here, but I'll only be posting the ones I don't think are super sucky. xD And ones that are funny.

Step-by-step progress of scratching Blue styled sprites:
Okay, so firstly, I use GraphicsGale. It's better and easier to use than Paint, especially because it has layers.
I start off with a few references and make a rough sketch in light brown. I usually play around with this before I get a pose I like, and don't worry too much about accuracy because the old sprites didn't stick to pokémon's proper designs. Note how I intentionally included two tail spikes instead of one; it's a subtle difference, but it's a difference nonetheless.

Next, I go onto the top layer (the square borders are on the bottom layer, the sketch on the second layer and the lineart/colour on the top one) and solidify the outlines. Note I've missed a few sketch pixels because I didn't think they were necessary.

Then I grab a Blue/Red/Green sprite that shares the same colours or close to the colours I want to use for the sprite. This time, I chose tauros, although I ended up editing the colours so they're not actually the tauros' colours at all. xD I also began to start the shading progress, which involves black for darkest shading, white for lightest, and a lot of dithering. xD

I continue on until I've shaded all the parts I think it needs, making it pretty ridiculous. Which is what I want, because old sprites were like that. Using pixels outside the outlines is always a good idea, and gives it that very old "Blue/Red/Green" look.

DUDE! Seriously. They are so perfect! They look like they are directly from the game. I love their poses. Snivy's is so motion-full (new word xD) but it keeps all its smirky character! And Noibat looks so happy, aww. <3 I so want to play a RB style game of X and Y now. xD If you ever get super bored do you think you could try Archen or Tyrunt? They will live in my signatureeee 5ever. :D

Hope you find it helpful! :] The only thing I should do is get proportions wrong. XD More wrong than they are. As you guys know, a lot of old sprites looked whacked out. They couldn't decide on the designs or something. xD

I agree with Sarah, you make it seem easy, but every time I try like any of these steps I fail with epic proportions. I think you have a great eye for this kind of detail!

As for those fusions... Dunsparce/Stunfisk... that one made me laugh. Your old sprites also made me laugh. xD Even so- they aren't that bad! ^_^

It's really cool seeing how you made it. You make it look so easy though. Like even the outline itself is brilliant and I love how you purposefully misproportion the sprites to give them that special old style charm. :D

Oh wow, that's amazing! The shading is perfect, the colors are great, and its perfectly shaped. I would say more, especially after seeing how much work you put into commenting on my work, but I can't think of anything you could improve, and even if you did make some tiny mistake, chances are me with my level of skill wouldn't be able to notice it.

Do you take requests?

OH, and your story gave me another idea! STOP GIVING ME IDEAS! XD I don't have enough attention span to write all these ideas!

Yes, I suppose. xD I have a Blue-styled kingdra lined up and a pixel-over of a rayquaza.

LOOOL THAT'S AWESOME! XD NO IT'S A GOOD THING TO GET IDEAS! If something can hold your attention span like that, then it's PROGRESS! XD And if you have the attention span to get through my story, then you definitely can write one of your own. :D

I made the shiny one first and used photoshop's replace colour to do the regular coloured one. I'll fix the normal one later. Fun fact: the shiny image is 1kb more than the normal colours. XD

That looks amazing! ^_^ Once again, I can never imagine how people do pixel overs. A 96x96 sprite takes enough time and patience... xD On first glance, everything looks perfect! If there are any errors, I'd probably have to zoom in to spot them- that's a good thing. xD The style you used for the fire seems to suit the colors very well! That's what I love about spriting or drawing fire- there's several dozen ways to draw/sprite fire with it still looking good. ^_^

AW THANKS NEKO. <3 Haha, I'm glad! I decided I wanted the fire to be blue or purple, but then it didn't happen. xD I was trying to adjust the colours but nothing looked right. And yeah, spriting is awesome. :3 So many possibilities! I did this because I wanted an avatar...it took me a little while to do. I was doing it around 11 last night and then I looked at the clock again and it was nearly 1. xDD I finished it around an hour later, haha.
