This is a thread I have opened on a few other forums with a fair amount of success. The concept is simple: share some art with us. This art can be something you did up and do not wish to create a gallery for, or something you find while browsing online digital art. Please read the rules before posting in this thread.


You may double post.
You must to give credit when possible (mention the artist or give a source link).
You are allowed to reply with comments on the different artwork.


Please never claim anything as your own, either directly or indirectly if you yourself have not created the art.

Thank you! So do I, considering the scanner really washed out the original. I was glad I was able to really put some of the color back in and then add more in there digitally. So much more vibrant and nice to look at, XD

Been working on this for a while! Still at the base colour stage but pretty excited to get shading and add final touches/touch ups. Lots to be done but enjoying myself regardless.

It's a far cry from my usual stuff, but I got bored and doodled gijinkas of two of my Alpha Sapphire team members. XD Digital freehand on characters is absolutely not my forte.

I read a lot of stuff online about how hard it was before I got it, so I was prepared to get super frustrated... but actually I'm finding it pretty easy to use, considering I'm used to using a mouse and stuff anyway. Maybe it's just harder going from traditional drawing to tablet, I dunno. Anyway the only thing limiting me at this stage is my lack of drawing skills. XD Hopefully the more I draw, the more I will improve. :D It's so fun to use though. xD Since I don't have a mouse on my laptop, I have been using it as a mouse haha.

I drew this recently... my friend and I's Starbound characters. I am the bird. xD It was fun with my tablet. Made the lines a lot easier, though I still did the colouring with my mouse since it was a bit hard to stay inside the lines otherwise, without going really slow.

PTGigi Pokemon Trainer Sarah

Was really inspired by that tumblr blog called "In-Progress Pokemon Evolutions," so I decided to give it a go and designed a Chimchar -> Monferno.

The changes aren't too drastic, which is great because it helped me get the hang of the design process. But at the same time, it wasn't TOO easy either. 'Nyway, this is just a rough sketch. Just focusing on the design here, not really so much on the execution

Okay, this one is in pieces, so let me explain.
This is the sketch of what the body as a whole looks like.
The arm / hand, of course. The metal plate thing on its shoulder is forming from the yellow band of yellow that Monferno had on its upper arm. These plates are still underdeveloped so of course, they're smaller compared to Infernape's.
The body. Under the process of streamlining, but there's still a little leftover...pudge, I guess. Also the white fur that was its collar is covering the rest of its body.
The head. Showed it as the white fur taking over the orange fur on its head. The flame on its head begins to ignite / grow.
Tail. The tip is still singed from Monferno's flame having been there before. As Monferno matures, the tail flame diminishes and the head / crown flame starts to grow.
And the leg / foot. Has four toes.

Those are really cool ideas. They fit really well. I like all the little details! And the sketches are nice too. :D People should do more of these!

So lately I've been REALLY inspired by closed species on DeviantART that I decided I wanted to start my own; at least I wanted to make a creature! I was really inspired by CardSharks (http://pizaru-chu.deviantart.com/gallery/52676326/CardSharks) for wanting to go with the amphibious / reptilian route. Personally I get tired of seeing fictional creatures being covered in fur or hair. I love amphibians, so figured I'd make it as such.

I was inspired by salamanders, rays (the fins on the back are inspired by a ray's wings), tadpoles, frogs, etc. for this species.
I tried to give it enough characteristics and attributes to be unique and iconic, but at the same time I tried to keep it relatively simplified. I think I did a pretty nice job for it being one of my first serious creature designs, but I'd like to know what you guys think? I may have taken inspiration from things without realizing it. Does it look too similar to something you already know, at a first glance?

But ahmg I'm actually really proud of this thing, this is my baby now xD

Also, Braixen. I know old post is old and you aren't online much anymore but can I seriously just say how I LOVE that Fennekin? I love the perspective you used and your colors. I also really like that simple shading style. It's just freaking perfect!

Aww Speed-X, that is a cutie! I admit I thought of Mudkip because of the cheek thingies, but it's still really unique! I love the tadpole-like tail! What colour(s) are they?! P.S. Does "closed species" mean anything particular? Or just that it's its own species?

Thank you, Pokemon Trainer Sarah! Hah yeah, the cheeks and antennae are 100% based off of Mudkip and axolotl in general. I also strangely seemed to make it look a bit like Sableye...
And as of now, I'm really not sure about colors and patterns. For the most part I think I'm just going to make variations, so no two of these creatures are exactly alike.

What closed species means...well, I found a good quote.

"Open species means everybody and anybody can make characters based on the species. Closed species means only the creator of the species and the people he allows are allowed to make a character based on that species. "

People usually close species because they enjoy making money off of designing different variations of a fictional species they conjured. Its quite fun buying them! Of course assuming I do make this a "closed species," it won't be completely closed. I'll try to make some money off of Canon designs that I've designed, but people are free to create their own...they just can't make profit from them and the fan made ones won't be considered canon. :>

Personally I prefer parts of the original sketch more--the mouth was cuter and I like that the head came up higher. I also liked the roundness of the first one's head from the side-on perspective. I prefer sketches, as somehow when I (digitally) colour my images they turn out odd, haha. Especially for characters, I love the rawness that makes 'em seem alive. Thank you very muchly, Speed. :D I'm so happy when someone likes my art.

Thank you, Neo. ;u; Yeah, birds can be one of those tricky things (especially the wings and talons) but practice makes perfect! I drew birds a lot as a kid, since they were one of my favourite animals.

This isn't at all Valentine's Day related, but tomorrow is a special day for Gravity Falls fans, so I made this set of illustrations based on the song Hey Brother by Avicii. The lyrics fit shockingly well with this show! I planned these for Tumblr, so it looks a bit better there if you want to take a gander (http://velodraws.tumblr.com/post/138955453628/theres-nothing-in-this-world-i-wouldnt-do), but this compilation turned out pretty alright. also the original canvases for these were 3000x3000 or 6000x3000 pixels at 300 DPI hahahaha they're frickin huge

So I finished coloring and shading the female strawberry variation. I tried to use a thick, colored outline style, painterly-ish shading, and a custom marker-brush to make little blotches to give it some personality. I had a lot of fun doing this! I'm definitely going to do the rest in this style. I'll probably make them bigger, though. :P

GIIIIIIIIIVE IIIIIIIIIIIN! I had a friend buy it for me impulsively because he loved it so much. He was like "HERE HAVE THIS FOR FREE. JUST PLAY IT." And I did the same to one of my friends today! xD I can understand wanting to wait for a sale, though. It just went OFF sale though...so probably not gonna be one soon. x: But you can always get the demo and try that out for free! Not that it'll show you much...at all. xD
