PE2K Accessible! (For Now)

This is no joke thread, or anything to do with URPG's random tradition of hiding promotions/news with a crazy title. PE2K is legit accessible now! I didn't know where else to post this, but I figured this would work as good as anywhere else, as I imagine this news will travel fast.

I don't know how or why...I was cleaning out and sorting my Bookmarks for Chrome when I found a link to an old RP of mine on PE2K. I didn't expect it to load, so you can imagine my surprise when it actually did. Checking around, I could access every section, though most of the forum has been flooded with a CRAPLOAD of spam. The URPG section was spared thanks to being locked once the branch was closed there.

I don't know if Harry or Kenny or maybe even Ryan did something, or if maybe archiving FINALLY kicked in properly, or what's going on. I was able to log in too, though, as well as change my password and even post a new thread. Now as far as I know, archived sites don't let you do stuff like that. Which means somehow PE2K has risen from the grave?

I don't even know if this is permanent or some random thing that'll stop working as suddenly as it started. If you have anything submitted to PE2K that you feared was lost, now would be a good time to get it before the forums have a chance to explode and vanish again.

Haha, I was so shocked and happy when the forum loaded and stuff. Even now I have the most retarded grin on my face.

This whole thing is quite the mystery, though. Unless the site/forum are somehow operating for free, someone had to have paid for the bandwidth again or something for all the features to be available, right? Yet I saw no mentions in any section about a revival. So...did I maybe accidentally stumble upon a secret plan to bring PE2K back and ruin the surprise? (I doubt it XD)

Whatever the reason, this is awesome. I hope it's permanent, but even if not, I'm so happy for the chance to get the works I'd thought I'd lost.

Figured I'd post my theory on this that is totally probably wrong but here I go.

Due to the lack of a head administrator, the site actually wasn't shut down, but more so the system fell in on itself due to pretty much an overwhelming amount of what we can see to be spambots and spam posts. Posts were major on it, and the forum couldn't load unless you always had it open 24/7/365. It probably is permanent if the spambots are taken out of the system, and the site's coding structure and well, whatever you have already said Hellsing has worked itself back to working.

Anyways, I'm just going to sit here with the rest of my Pokestadium members knowing we will never get our original site back /cries

Anyway I'm really glad it's back, even if only for a little while. Gave me a chance to save some important things!

Back when I was a mod, there were maybe 2-3 bots a day. Pesky, but it could be managed.

However, this... I don't know what programming algorithm they used for these bots, but sheesh, it's out of control. Don't they realize that if they flood the forum with that junk and kill the community by doing that, the whole purpose of the automated advertising is lost anyway? Yeah...

I am a marketing major, and I can honestly say this is one of the most terrible ways to try and grab potential customers. It's many times worse than telemarketing, because at least with telemarketing, you can hang up the phone and go on with life. Here, the advertiser is completely vandalizing the customer's property and community with their ads, which in turn puts a very negative image on them and their advertising campaign. It's like spray-painting an ad on someone's house. So why this kind of thing still goes on, I don't know. Besides, medications are overly pushed nowadays as is...

About 8000 threads in the ASB alone, yep. The Contest section was virtually untouched, for some reason, though. There were only a handful of threads, so I just went and deleted them.

Tbh I didn't even bother to check the rest of the forum. /: I suppose I should, to get back all my old sprites since I lost track of them when I got a new computer, but I don't sprite much anymore (because MS Paint for W8 suuucks, mostly) and they're all probably really bad anyway. :P

Wow, just by looking at the member to post ratio, I can tell that there must have been a lot of spam. o-o Almost 3.5 million posts, that's quite a lot! Regardless of the post count, I never realized how large the community was. I'm glad you guys can look back and visit your old home once again. If I remember correctly, it was a combination of inactivity and inability to pay the server bill, or something along those lines. Sarah and Harry would know better than I, though.

Sure. It's not a requirement, so I don't see anything wrong where a section or maybe just a thread of the forum is dedicated to donations, which means giving money voluntarily, to benefit PXR.

It doesn't work that way. Google's search results are tailored to give you what you want. Since the algorithms have determined that PE2K is dead, it buries PE2K search results. If you search for something specific with no results anywhere on the web (as I have done here (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=pokemonelite2000+the+dark+council)), it'll pop up. You can even access the Google Cache of any pages that show up.

Without knowing what the deal was with PE2K's servers, I couldn't tell you if it was going to turn back on again. Though, I seem to recall ray_quazaa mentioned something about setting up a PE2K mirror on PXR's servers.

I understand what you mean...but the weird thing is I'm pretty sure that until as of very recent, upon searching for pokemonelite2000 on Google, you'd get results just fine. Such as the website would be the first thing that pops up, as it usually does. By this, I mean that just the site itself (not any specific articles or threads) would be the first thing you'd see.

I guess it's like LC said, and even if usually pe2k pages would show up, whenever 'pokemonelite2000.com' should come up, it automatically realises the site is dead and doesn't show it near the top anymore. Even if you specifically search for pokemonelite2000. It is kind of weird how it does that. xD
