View Full Version : Mobile app for PXR Forum?

The staff is wondering whether or not a mobile app would be useful for the forum. Obviously, this would be less useful for those who primarily surf with a laptop, but more suited for those who surf on the go, either on a tablet or phone.

We're looking into using Tapatalk to facilitate this 'app,' though Tapatalk costs money for the end user, either though the purchase of an app ($3 on Android) or through in app ads (can be annoying). However, if you already use Tapatalk, then you don't have to 'repurchase' it.

So please post your comments below. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!

It wouldn't hurt. If someone wants to use it, they can use it, and it's nice to have there as a benefit. I don't have much to say on this other than that fact and that PXR is a pain to post on from a Smartphone when I do check it with one.

I'm actually using my Kindle right now and I know I use my phone quite a lot to check here when I'm not home and I think it would be easier through I'd rather not have to spend money.

Well, I've been checking around and it seems like there's a free version too.

Haha... I'm testing it right now.... :)

EDIT: tapatalk in beta on the site right now. Let me know if you'd like something changed!

If there's a free version, I would love this idea. I use my Mac quite a bit, but there's plenty of times where I want to check PXR while on break or bored waiting on something.

Go ahead and try it out while I try to figure out the little things!

I've tried Tapatalk and it's pretty good. I can edit, change my posts, and find them. Albeit, it looks pretty different and the page numbers are different. The links also open inside the app and brings me to the page it's supposed to, however, it doesn't bring me to the post it's supposed to. (At least, with the link I tried.) It's decent and good for mobile use, at least.

How about just having a mobile version load on detection of a mobille device? Some sites do that, dunno if forums can though.

We have that, as long as it's not the site's main page... I know I choose to disable it, though. XD

You do? I browse in Desktop mode too, but some sites like www.marvelheroes.com still show a mobile version. All it would take is some kind of forum toggle or option for people to go into their profile and choose "Force mobile even when Desktop mode is enabled" or something of the sort. I use Dolphin Browser on my phone by the way, and it allows choosing if I want to see mobile sites. As I said some sites seem to force it, though.

It's a changeable option selectable from the "Forum Skins" drop down list on the desktop site. This skin can be turned off again by scrolling to the bottom of the page you're in and clicking "switch to desktop site".

I see it! Clever hiding it down there. Well, no need for my suggestion then.
