View Full Version : Why did you choose your username.
[Desolate Divine]

We have some pretty interesting and unique usernames here on PXR. Why did you pick yours.
I have had four on PXR.
Cobalt Shadow was my name on pe2k and I automatically chose the same name. However on pe2k I wanted Cobalt originally but it was taken. Sometime during PXRs development I realised I had a whole world of usernames since barely anyone had joined yet. I then switched to Cobalt. It was a bit awkward when Cobalt of pe2k arrived and had to choose a different name haha.
When I became moderator around last October, I wanted a name change and ended up changing my name to The Operator, due to my Slenderman obsession and being called Slenderfairy by a few people on here (ask Eternity, Dragotech and Charmander009)
Recently I felt like another change and decided to change to Comatose. Comatose is the name of my favourite album, a metal album by a band called Skillet, as well as my favourite song. My user title is lyrics from it, though slightly incorrect due to character limits.
Braixen
04-03-2014, 09:51 PM
Ouu! I like to know this sort of thing about people :)
Unfortunately my name is basically self explanatory, I really like Braixen (I was formally Absol, and I really like Absol too)... but, I guess there's a tiny bit more to it! When Fennekin first premiered as a starter I was extremely excited about it, I really liked the Pokemon and I have always been biased towards fire starters (Torchic's line and Tepig's line were kind of disappointing to me though) so I had been waiting for another awesome first starter to meet that of Charmander, and Cyndaquil's (chimchar is fairly good to me but I don't love it as much) evolution line. I waited for a long time to see what Fennekin's evolutions turned out to be, and I was met with disappointment. I was fairly sad that they decided to make her bipedal instead of keeping her quadruped, and I took a while to come around.. now that I let myself appreciate the line a bit more I ended up being obsessed with Braixen. I think she's adorable! I don't even mind Delphox (she's grown on me), but Braixen really stands out for me. :) I also like the personality associated with her, I deem her as a bit sassy, feminine, and strong/brave. It's a good combination!

When I joined PokeStadium my username was IntelligentNoob, an oxymoron I used to describe myself at the time I joined. I didn't really think I'd stay there long, but I became extremely active and fascinated with the site. I had a lot of different nicknames, Inny, Intin, IN, Noogies(thank LightningDash for that), but one in particular stood out; Intel. Essentially no one called me by my actual username, so I went around as Intel. Although I never was able to have my username changed, it wasn't until the site closed down until I actually chose to use Intel as a forum username. Though I enjoy being creative, so I added the yin yang symbols to make my name less bland. Thus ☯Intel☯ became my forum username, and you have no idea how surprised I was to find out that the symbols worked in the registration process.
I tend to be a logical person, fixated on learning random things for no reason in particular. Intel is also the name of a computer chip company, consisting of various workers with similar ideals that I share. The corporation itself and how I portray myself on occasion is somewhat relevant to my nickname and now username on various forums. I was still tempted to have some form of a Ralts related username.... alas, the user title was satisfying enough :p
Caite-chan
04-04-2014, 12:39 AM
Well I've had several names through out PE2K and other sites. I'll try to remember the order....
Skate Master Tony - I was real into Skateboarding when I was in middle school and Tony Hawk was my favorite skater.
Shane O Mac v 3 - I moved from Skateboarding to wrestling thanks to an old member named Syrus. He got me into wrestling and at the time my favorite was Shane McMahon.
Bioactive Showtime - This was something that came about when I started doing wrestling e feds and I wanted something cool sounding...Lolz.
Slave To Petey - I got this on the wrestling e fed for being Queen of Petey Williams as I was known for role playing him all over. One of the guys told me I was like the Slave To Petey....LOL. And I love him to death....he's the hawt guy in my avatar. *Cheese grin*
Caite-chan - When I joined Bulbapedia I wanted to use Caitlin as she is the Elite Four Psychic Master and also it is my real name...even spelled the same way. Someone had already taken Caitlin :O so I went with Caite-chan.
If you are from the old PE2K most of you will know me as Tony or Shane and either is just fine with me. :D *Looks at HKim* LOL
The-Hydra
04-04-2014, 01:37 AM
I wish I had an intelligent reason behind my two forum user names I've had.
The first one, Hypnoman, was caused by my rushed attempt to choose a favorite Pokémon the day I joined. I chose Hypno because he seemed cool that day.
Naturally, when I saw we had a name change thread a month or two later I wanted to change it. However, that was also rushed for no real reason, and the best I could think of was the car from Kirby air ride, The Hydra. (That was before even gen 5 XD) but the meaning gradually changed to be interpreted as Hydreigon, since I started liking him a lot more.
Pokemon Trainer Sarah
04-04-2014, 04:33 AM
You guys have much more interesting reasons. When I joined PE2K, I wanted to pick a name that I knew I would be alright sticking with forever. Sarah is my real name, so it was kind of obvious. :P
Ash K.
04-04-2014, 07:10 AM
I used to use the name Alcadies (first chosen for Runescape years ago as a misspelling of something I couldn't remember how to spell), but then when I joined another Pokémon game several years ago (TPPC forums, I remember someone named Comatose there, not sure if you're the same Comatose; who had a genderless level 5 shiny Magikarp that I remember from there), I put an invalid email for the account Alcadies and it wouldn't let me validate it, so I had to make a new account, and because I'm quite bad with coming up with names I went with Ash K. (anyone who's on a Pokémon forum and can't guess the derivation of that should please leave now). I've been wanting to change it for a while, but unable to think of a better name and at this point it's pretty much stuck anyways because it probably wouldn't stop everyone from calling me Ash.
Felly
04-04-2014, 10:42 PM
Waaaaay back in the day, I used to be in a Pokemon/MKWii/SSBB/Halo clan, and I went by Fire Element Lord, but people just called me FEL for short. ;3 One of the clan members started calling me Felly, and it ended up sticking, so I just use it everywhere now.
EmeraldSky

Emerald--The birthstone for May, the third Gen 3 Pokemon game

VeloJello
04-05-2014, 12:35 AM
Mine was inspired by a love of velociraptors, and a character I made up ages ago who happened to be a robotic one by the same name. I also frequently go by VeloJello, as a combination of my nickname and a tasty gelatin treat that pulls me through when I'm sad and/or ill.
Rival Max
04-05-2014, 01:14 AM
This most recent name was chosen as a nod to my first name on pe2k. The Shadow Tracker..which became The Unreal Shadow Tracker a few weeks later. I picked Shadow Tracker Max because my fanfic is based around a young boy named Max. The same character was used as my character in the early versions of GCEA Red and Blue.
Neo Emolga
04-05-2014, 04:00 PM
Because Emolga just rocks. :D
I know, I know, I used to be a nutcase for Pikachu (I still think he's cool anyway), but Emolga... so cool and hilarious on so many levels. As for the "Neo" part, well, that goes all the way back to my fascination for the Matrix movies, which is pretty much a fazed-out fandom, but it was good while it was still around.
Death's Spook
04-05-2014, 04:59 PM
My first name, narphoenix, was based off of a character I designed initially called the Chosen One of Fire. No, I will not elaborate, the character is an old shame. Buuuuuut, I liked the name, and so used it as an alias. I still do, actually: on both Wordpress and the Jim Butcher Forums, I am still narphoenix. Nar because it's the Arabic word for fire, and phoenix is obvious. And it is only properly spelled narphoenix, not Narphoenix. Nar capitalized is fine though, and I still giggle a little when people call me Narph (*cough* The Nonexistent Tazz *cough*).
My second name, Socratic Sarcasm, was a modification of Socratic Irony. I stuck by it until people started calling me SS, and I was like, "Well that's a big giant pile of NOPE."
My current name, Death's Spook, is because I like The Sandman. Death is perky and awesome.
Zodiac

I wanted to pick something different for this forum, and I decided to pick a favourite song. No deep meaning to it (yet)
ShadowJay
04-05-2014, 09:45 PM
Heh heh, my username doesn't have a cool back-story like most others do. It's a combination of the word Shadow and the first letter of my name. Despite spelling it "Jay" in my username, my actual name lacks a 'y' and is spelt Jaden. I just decided to use it because it sounded cool.
Suicune's Fire
04-06-2014, 11:38 PM
WOW. XD I love reading through everyone's reasons for their usernames! I didn't know any of those backstories so it's so interesting to find out. xD
I've gone through a few usernames in the past... I think my very first one was Flareon_Girl or something silly like that. But haha, that was back when I had no idea how a forum worked so I posted in places I wasn't supposed to and got in trouble, so when I came to Pe2k a month or so later, I didn't want to be recognised (the fact that I thought it was probable is sort of hilarious) so I mixed it up completely, going with Graceful_Suicune. I thought it was a thing to put an underscore, which is why it remained in my name. Suicune are my favourite legendaries, and one of my favourite pokemon, which was why I chose it as part of my name.
However, I signed up everywhere else as GoldFlareon (originally Golden_Flareon) or just Flareon. I don't know where that came from; the 'flareon' part is obvious, and I think I chose "Gold" because it sounded sort of majestic or something. My pokesona ended up being gold coloured because of this. xD
When I joined PXR, for some reason I didn't want to sign up here as GoldFlareon like I am everywhere else. I think I wanted a name I only used for my home forum, much like Graceful_Suicune, and I also remember Harry saying to us all that we should pick a name that means something to us and that we'll treasure. I thought about it for a while and decided on combining flareon with suicune, so that people might still recognise me, but also so that I could be associated with flareon. I thought Suicune's Fire was cool because it's obviously not possible for a suicune to be able to breathe fire, but it had an allusion to my favourite type and my favourite pokemon. ^^
If I change it again, which I'm hesitant to do because it's grown on me, then it'll be something related to Mass Effect but still pokemon-related. x)
~SF.

My usernames here have all three been the character I was currently playing on my pokémon games. *shrugs* No other big story, really.
Homura
04-07-2014, 09:20 PM
I'm Homura? Well I say I am anyway. Besides, HKim always calls me a magical girl anyway.
Caite-chan Right-o, Captain. :3
Mr. Nyan
04-07-2014, 09:42 PM
All started in Pokestadium... Welp, it's nothing that much. I choose Zekronyan because I like Zekrom, and then I fused it with Nyan Cat... Boom. Then, in pokepavilion I changed to Mr. Zekrom, and now, Mr. Nyan. Nothing fancy.
DarkNerd
04-08-2014, 09:04 AM
I've had this username since I started using usernames on the internet. Seriously, if i'm not using my DarkNerd username of a variety of it, I'm either on my Facebook or, god forgive me, Myspace.
It began with my first idea for a comic. I had no idea for a name for the protagonist, however, so I settled with what I thought was cool. Dark. But it needed more. And since I was the school nerd, I decided to might as well give him the moniker of Dark Nerd. When the movies came out calling Batman the Dark Knight, it instantly changed it from a working name to a final name. So when I signed up for Animal Crossing Bay all those years ago, I used it. But not knowing if spaces worked for usernames, I went by DarkNerd. Since I'm terrible with names, I kept it.
It's incredibly appropriate now, for various other reasons, but that's how it came about. And all I'm saying.
Daughter of Mew
04-10-2014, 12:38 PM
I made this username when I was 12, and my favourite Pokémon at the time was Mew. I used to have a weird thing about making up little stories about being related to characters I liked, hence the "daughter". I've just sort of stuck with it. This has pretty much permanently been my username on Pokémon websites for 5 years now!
Pumpkaboo
04-12-2014, 09:48 PM
Because Pumpkaboo is the best. :p
Genesis
04-12-2014, 10:41 PM
Genesis comes from Crisis Core - FF7, JNathan was a combination of my name and Blind Destruction was one I quickly made up.
Voltaire Magneton
08-10-2014, 03:15 AM
So my username...
Firstly, the first is Voltaire Magneton. It's a superhero from a local TV series, which I find the name cool, but I don't watch it. Make of that how you will.
Then suddenly people think I'm a fan of Voltaire. Well, I don't mind it, but I'm raising their hopes up, so...
VoltChen Magneton. Because people know me already as Volt and VM. Instead, I took Chen from EXO (my feels) and made a portmanteau. Especially the fact that Chen's superpower is electricity. Whee!
Corey
08-10-2014, 04:20 AM
My, my, I thought I posted in this thread before!
I beat all of you for the lamest reason - my username is my real name. :P
When I joined PE2K (and I joined a million times because I didn't know you couldn't have multiple accounts cos I was like 11 lul), I initially joined exactly three days after my ninth birthday as Vaporeon100. I always liked Jolteon better, but I suppose Vaporeon was specifically awesome that day. xD
I then joined under another account called Ho-Oh00, I believe. I've always really liked Ho-Oh, so that was the reasoning behind that. The 00 part comes from my cousin's email, which had "00" in it, and I found that astounding. I later came to realize the 00 meant that she was born in the year, so I bet a lot of people mistook my birth year for 2000. :B it's actually 1998 incase you were wondering
THEN I joined under ANOTHER (xD) account under Serenity Suicune. That's when people on PE2K started to notice me, as I decided to take part in the Wi-Fi League. Suicune and Ho-Oh used to be my favorite legendaries, and after searching up a cool word that started with "s" that represented Suicune, I came to "Serenity" and liked it.
Not long after, I joined as the account I'd use as my permanent account, Shiny Eevee. I've always loved Eevee, so there was the reasoning behind that. I finally figured out that name change threads were a thing and changed my name to Shiny Jolteon, as Jolteon was, before Sylveon, my favorite Eeveelution.
I then changed my name to Typhlosion Explosion, as Typhlosion was my favorite Pokemon at the time and "explosion" was a cool rhyme that matched perfectly. I joined PXR as Typhlosion Explosion as well, but the soon after changed it to Corey, which is my real name and current username. Typhlosion isn't even my favorite Pokemon now, anyway. xD It's not that I dislike it, it's just that I like Delphox best. Typhlosion is probably my 9th favorite Pokemon, now. Besides, I still very rarely get called TE. :P I changed my name to Corey simply because I prefer to be addressed by my real name than a username. I guess I just find it more personal, more intimate. :D
Whee!
Chen is just all types of perfect. He's an amazing well-rounded considerate guy.
My name is Emily, buy my name is very common. Not a lot of people call my name. When they do I don't turn my head b3caus3 I'm not used to people calling for my attention. This is very much fact because one of my friends tried calling my name, but I didn't even remotely pay attention. She calls me by one of my irl nicknames and in that second, I gave her my automatic attention.
So, Emmy is a nickname for Emily. :D
Dragon Master Mike
08-15-2014, 02:09 AM
Well, my VERY FIRST username that I ever made up for anything was cats715, because I was like, 7 at the time and there was a book involving cats that I was reading, and 7/15 is my birthday. Eventually as I got older I realized the name is pretty stupid and I don't even like cats, so at some point a few years later I decided to go with Dragonmaster715 because dragons are cooler than cats (that was my logic at the time). For lack of anything better to use I kinda just stuck with it. Although whenever possible I prefer to go as Dragon Master, it's just that most of the time Dragon Master is taken, so I stick the 715 on.
Oh, and I decided to stick Mike at the end recently because my IRL name is Michael.
ImaginiteDragonites
08-17-2014, 02:27 PM
Well, one day I was listening to Imagine Dragons and I was training my Dragonite, Caesar. Then I came across this and I was trying to think of a username, then it hit me. Yeah, I didn't exactly put tons of thought into this unlike most people, apparently.
Bulbasaur
08-17-2014, 04:51 PM
My favorite Pokemon is Bulbasaur.
...
What else should I say? I'm just a creative guy.
Chibi Altaria
08-18-2014, 10:58 AM
Well mine was an old username back on PE2K. :D So I decided to recycle it for PxR! Memories.
My initials are SLC. I couldn't think of anything back when I made a new PE2K account and it stuck.
ImaginiteDragonites
08-19-2014, 03:22 AM
One day I was playing Pokémon X, and I was listening to Imagine Dragons while training my Dragonite, Caesar. Then I came across this and my thoughts were "ok, what should my username be? Hmmm, I like puns, yeah, I'll throw a pun in there." Then 5 minutes later "ImaginiteDragonites" kind of a more in depth exclamation, I honestly didn't put much thought into it.
Shiny Totodile
08-19-2014, 10:04 PM
My username is Shiny Totodile because when I first started on Pokestadium I didn't know what to do, so my brother asked me what my favorite starter was (This was a long time ago) and then he just made it into shinytotodile2462. I've always kinda' kept the same username since then, mainly because I don't know how to change it.
Marill
08-20-2014, 02:50 AM
I chose my username as I've had it on PE2K since 2002! I wanted to drop
in and say "Hello!" To HKim's new site. Hello!
Filia Rage
09-07-2014, 11:05 PM
Well, I chose my username because I love Filia in Skullgirls, and I like Millia Rage from Guilty Gear. And seeing as Filia kinda references Millia, I thought Filia Rage would be a clever username.
Ellithium
09-07-2014, 11:13 PM
I'm a psychology major researching bipolar disorder, and my name is Elliot. Elliot + Lithium Carbonate (the medication used to treat bipolar disorder) = Ellithium Carbonate, or just Ellithium. I also go by ELi2CO3 and 3Li (because the atomic number of Lithium is 3 and it also looks like a backwards E).

My name comes from one of my characters I use in an RP. It's also welsh for snow, and I find it to be a pretty name.
Steel Lunpara
09-18-2014, 09:45 PM
Well, my username was made about 3 years ago on PE2K. Rather, I changed it after realizing my current one and it's backup were both godawful and embarrassing. You know, like most of the stuff I did on PE2K. Anyway, my username can be divided into 3 parts, obviously. "The" is mostly just there to make me look overly pretentious, but I also can't get rid of it, because that just makes it seem bland and generic. "Frost" is by far my favorite of the elements (I mean, not the periodic elements or even the classical ones. What would Ice be, the Squeenix elements?) Freezing anything is already pretty cool, but freezing someone and pushing them off of a cliff? Very literally shattering lives? There is nothing but awesome there.
Lastly, we have "dragon." That part, as far as I can tell, can be traced back to a game called Spore. It's whole point was how it would be populated by all the creatures, buildings, vehicles, or whatever that you and your friends made, and eventually it got a level editor function. Well, somewhere around 5 years ago, I got obsessed with some random, not-even-that-good creator who was, in turn, obsessed with dragons. Being the utter loser I was at that point, I adopted that interest and it stuck for a while. It came back based on some incredibly bizzare and stupid dream (I'm not getting into that. This post is making me look dumb enough already.) that I had only a few months before I changed my name, at which point it was a real obsession; I drew absolutely nothing but dragons, and yes, all of them were terrible. I've long since outgrown that phase, but the name still stuck. If you want to be exact, it refers to a certain character I made, named Frost, go figure. His story has kind of been abandoned for a while, but I don't really want to change the name. I'm fine with it as it is.
PTGigi
09-28-2014, 06:34 PM
...Neopets. I was "pokemon_trainer_bob" because "pokemon_trainer_spyro" wouldn't fit (I was a silly little kid) and I fantastically named my Neopets after Pokemon. Years later when "bob" stopped being the most hilarious name ever (did I mention I was a silly little kid?) and I noticed that using a male name when I'm female was leading to lots of confusion.
So I switched to Pokemontrainergigi (Pkmntrainergigi if it was too long). If those names are still too long I've been known to shorten down to DragonTamerGigi (oddly capitalizing that and not my Pokemon names...? I dunno). Finally, typing out Pokemontrainergigi is a mouthful, not to mention people kept nicknaming me "Pokemon" or "Pokemontrainer" and not "Gigi" (my actual nickname), I finally just decided to go with PTGigi. c:
Sir Sivelos
09-28-2014, 06:38 PM
My name comes from a mutation of my favorite color, Silver (as well as one of my favorite pokémon rivals), and the acronym for Operating System (OS), due to my love of computers. Also, I just thought it sounded cool when I thought it up. XD
I first used it back on Pokestadium, and changed it to 'Sir Sivelos' when I migrated here. The 'Sir' part comes from the fact that, well... Again, I thought it sounded cool.
Elbub
10-02-2014, 04:01 PM
Ohhhh it's a time for a story as boring as any other you'll hear this day, week, maybe even month. I'll try to keep it short though.
When I was around... 12, or so, at school, I had an English Media project with two other students where we would have to design a product and make marketing stuff and lots of other pointless things that come with teaching twelve year-old children Media.
We decided on a cleaning product, a washing up liquid/detergent kind of thing. We designed the packaging to be shaped like a bubble, and then were stuck with deciding a name, which if I remember actually took an awful long time.
Eventually, one of us (I'm inclined to think it's me but that's probably just nostalgia bias) decided to just flip the word Bubble to "Elbbub". However, I (I'm more sure that this was me who made this change but, again, I could be wrong) thought that the extra b in the middle looked a bit bulky, so we took it out and wrote "Elbub" on everything. I'm fairly certain I still have some of the 'work' lying around somewhere.
Anyway, spin on a month or so to the end of November in 2004, and two other friends were trying to persuade me to sign up to Runescape. However, I didn't want just any name as I had done in the past (stuff like "proyo4000" and "nic1992", because I wasn't very creative back then), I wanted something that I could use forever more on the internets.
So I typed in Elbub, which made my friends laugh because they thought it was a ridiculous word... But it wasn't taken within the game, and it was short, and didn't have any numbers or anything. So I stuck with it, and have done ever since.
...I said I'd make it short, didn't I? My apologies ;D

My original username Fantome Ecrivain was a direct French translation of "ghost" (fantome) and "writer" (ecrivain). There are many reasons why I picked this name. Being a fantasy bibliophile and writer, I love the supernatural and mystical, hence the idea of a phantom appealed to me in a name. A ghostwriter is also someone who writes under the name of another person, aka a behind-the-scenes worker which I feel is an accurate self-presentation. There's also an aura of mystery since nobody knows who the actual ghostwriter is. Not to mention I love Ghost type pokemon~
Do I have to explain my current name now?
Chakramaster
10-16-2014, 02:22 AM
My username stretches all the way back to 2006 actually. Where I started an account, my first online account on a site called Gametrailers. Over the course of the years I signed up with more sites and either stuck with this or changed it up a bit. Most of the time the username was already taken, but rather than have multiple different usernames I decided to try and stick with only 1. Most my friends online know me as this username and it's now pretty much a go to account name for me if I can. Most my friends just shorten the name a call me by "Chakra" instead as it's just a shortened version of the name. So websites and games the name "Chakra" is the first thing I think or go to unless I just have a better name already planned out.
