RP Preview: Augment [Discussion]

A continent that is diverse, vast as it is enticing and dangerous. The land of Aussimer is no familiar ground to outsiders. You will not find the technology you take comfort in, or the concepts most well-known to others here. No, in this world, the sword and shield are your allies, and a power that is Augment reigns. The continent is divided into six prominent lands, each with their own strengths and characteristics. Some are vast forests, while others are massive glacial fields, or barren wastelands of death. Despite the unknown you may face, there is something, someplace for everyone in Aussimer. Humans and Pokémon have almost a symbiotic relationship with each other and the land they all share, and from these bonds, the abilities and powers of Augmentation is born.

Augments, are bonds created with a human, and one, two or three Pokémon. These bonds are created through experience, and stabilized in conclusion with a gemstone that best resonates with the pair, finalizing what is known as a Synergy. The stone could be anything, from a simple granite pebble to a polished ruby. This Synergy allows the human to gain abilities from their Pokémon partners based on one Type that their partner has. For example, a person with a Charizard, may have a Fire, or Flying Augment linked to them and will gain some of their abilities based on what type is chosen. Many in Aussimer are familiar, and use this power in everything from daily jobs, to combat. Many in the past have tried to test the limits of their human capacity with the Augment crystals. It is common knowledge that attempting to use more than three Augment Crystals is a bold dare against Death, of which he would swiftly take. However, there have been results that are far worse than Death itself.

Your body will deteriorate, and so will your Pokémon. You and they will be no more and the crystals and Synergy that once bound you will become corrupt, merging what is left into an unholy mass of energy, spite and hunger. Your broken souls merge into one, cursed to be locked to the now tainted Augment Stones, and you lose all intelligence all memory and emotion of yourself, and what was. Those of Aussimer have dubbed these monstrosities ‘the Manifest’: a single body with the forms of all of what they once were, shifting and changing to suit their gluttonous hunger for power. Those who read this should be warned about abusing their Augment powers, as well as Manifests themselves, for even those who are wary, may be turned Manifest should one devour your Synergy and overtake your own strength. Those who seek to destroy the Manifests also take caution, for Manifests do not bleed, do not breathe, and do not eat, only devouring the energy of those they deem as prey. Manifests have no heart, nor any other organs or bones, only a semi physical mass of virulent energy to call a shell of a body. There will be no victory in reckless, uncontrolled strength, or unwise attacks. You must destroy their forms, and destroy their crystals over and over. This is the only way to defeat these demons.

Manifests plague all of Aussimer however each of the lands faces their own issues, ones that may impact the entire continent in unforeseeable ways. An unseen shadow lingers on the horizon, one that may cause rifts in the land, and force the creation of unlikely pacts. Many factions and many leaders protect and control various parts of the continent, so anything could happen at anytime, anywhere.

More Augment information:
Augments come in leveled forms of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary. This grants the human two forms of abilities: Active, which allows the use of their partner’s skills that share the type with their Pokémon, and Passive, which grant permanent buffs to the human in relation with their augments. For whichever Augment type is the Primary, two active skills may be used in place of one. Example:

Augments
Primary: Fire
Active Skills: Flamethrower, Blast Burn
Passive Skill: Impervious to flames, and cannot be burned by regular fire.
Pokémon: Charizard
-Flamethrower
-Blast Burn
-Fly
-Metal Claw

So because the Charizard can use flamethrower and Blast Burn, the human who has a Primary Fire type Augment can also use these moves as well. The passive skill relates to the Fire type itself, and is a much stronger skill since it is part of the primary.

Secondary: Water
Active Skill: Surf
Passive Skill: Has far more durable armor than most, and when defending, can easily block melee attacks.
Pokémon: Blastoise
-Surf
-Hydro Pump
-Rapid Spin
-Ice Beam

Now here we have the Secondary, with only one active skill. Now if you notice the Passive skill, which more relates to the Pokémon that is being Augmented to the Water type, that being a Blastoise.

Tertiary: Grass
Active Skill: Leech Seed
Passive Skill: Knows about any edible plant off hand.
Pokémon: Venusaur
-Giga Drain
-Leech Seed
-Sludge Bomb
-Vine Whip

Now here, the Tertiary Passive skill isn’t that strong. Notice the Active skill though? It doesn’t have to be a physical or special attack, it can be a status move as long as it matches the type and what the Pokémon can learn.

It actually shares a lot of similarities to a story I've had myself (trainers gaining type based abilities due to their bond with pokémon, and the Manifests are similar to my Chimera, except Chimera are horrible results of genetic splicing and Frankensteinian mad science). Oh! Oh! I can answer this one! Yes, you can have more than one character. I know several people are planning on multiple characters already (myself included). Imo, it'd be kinda mean to have a number of countries and not allow people more than one character. XD

That one would depend on the structure of the country you're in, however one is more geared towards "mage" types than others. Now whether or not it's advisable would be up to you.

Answer to the second question is six, but you don't have to stick with any of them (say you're a powerful mercenary whose very existence means collateral damage).

Yes we will have a visual representation of a map of Aussimer. I'll make sure our break through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man head of map making will have it done. There will also be descriptions of each country listing things such as government, list of cities and towns as well as some backstory.

I'm aware of the RP team having normal functioning lives as I'm one of those people. I am also very busy. So far no one objected to anything regarding the rough estimate of time. It wasn't exact as things are liable to change. I don't see any loopholes that need adjusting and what needs to be fixed is in the process of being fixed. These are things that can be discussed in the project chat.

Nothing says he can't end up going the absolute psycho route anyway. He'd have to be very /very/ good to avoid getting destroyed (or possibly killed, depending on how anti death the country is). I mean, Ted Bundy was very charming. I'm sure his character could hide it, too. XD

It probably won't happen, in all honesty. I have a hard time playing characters that are completely morally bankrupt like that. I prefer playing the hero. We'll see, though, once I have more information about the world.

Well, in the words of a somewhat famous movie, you'd be surprised what you can live through.

Fact: They do not kill those who commit crimes, even those who deprive others of life. They ARE known, however, for fate-worse-than-death punishments, but they are very rarely carried out because the people know better, even if they aren't natives. The country has a veeeeeeery low crime rate for this reason, as well as the fact the people are generally peaceful to begin with.

With all of DS' talk about what the fae were really like, I'm surprised Fairy's supereffective against Dark. The Dark type was based more on dark personalities and playing dirty rather than actual darkness. Huehuehue. -u-

Actually, it's not that surprising. The Fae play dirtiest of them all. While still fulfilling their bargains. Basically, Dark Types ignore the rules, but the Fae make them work for them.

It's funny because Dark and Dragon reside in the same country.

Originally there were only factions, but then it worked into a continent of countries. So there shouldn't be a reason for anyone to be bored.

Here's a brief description of each country, but all might not be what you think when you get the full details later:


Flying/Dragon/Dark
This country, which is also mine, has the whole 'land of the dead' reputation with honoring death and having those who mastered the sky and flying mounts.

Normal/Psychic/Fairy
Opposite to the one I just mentioned, this one honors everything to do with life and is the wizard/mage/school type vibes going on.

Fire/Water/Electric
Science. Science, and more science - did I mention science? Much science happens and the studying and experimentation of augments and what not.

Grass/Bug/Ground
A big o' flatish sort of forested country that also happens to be right smack in the middle so a lot of trading and what not goes on here. Sort of like the Skyrim equivalent of Whiterun.

Rock/Steel/Fighting
A giant fortified city where there are practices of the physical arts, as opposed to studying mental arts. Like art, physical combat, smithing and all that good stuff.

Ice/Poison/Ghost
This place is really friggin' cold, and has some really funky otherworldly stuff going on. Also the person who has this country under their control wants as much info withheld as possible so that's all you get.

There aren't any rules to break-there's no way to subvert the contract you've just made, no Kill-Devil-Hill shenanigans going on or anything. Nothing ANYONE'S got will save your sorry rear from the tail end. Fairy-Type wins.

Or, a third, much less grim alternative: Evil baddie V. Magical Girl. Who wins? Magical Girl. Duh. :P The genre conventions of anime dictate it.

Also, now I'm more intrigued in this RP. Those tiny snippets of detail tell me SOOOO much.

This is even more hilarious in the context of the most recent Dresden Files book, where the absolutely Dark Typiest person there found out that the Fae Queen's vengeance is very very broad and very very deep. While she was technically fulfilling a debt for /him/.

Ditto is one of the Pokemon that we already have a prerequisite, or a clause for. The ability of someone who Augments a Ditto can only change their physical appearance in minor cases and only temporarily, as well as their outer wear temporarily [however they can change it completely] and Ditto can't be used as a Primary Augment because it doesn't have enough of it's own skills to be a Primary.

We have other special clauses for other weird Pokemon like Castform. This was to prevent any kind of abuse and clear up any confusion on form changing Pokemon.

If you want to be part of a faction, requirement is usually 2/3 Augments and some other requirements that will be mentioned. [I'll have factions listed on opening day, but it's basically the most prominent group in a country] If you just live inn a country, then it's best to have at least one. Complete Trinity's [AKA having all three Augments] is fairly uncommon, but I know everyone's probably going to play Characters with all three. XD

When it comes to Augments though, you can use any Pokemon that shares that type. So any Pokemon with a Rock type, and Pokemon with a Steel type, etc. Active skills need to match the type of Augment, and if the linked Pokemon can learn that move and it needs to be in their learnset.

Judging from the first page, there's a 4-move limit. I'd ask to push to six, but I'm almost dead-sure you're set on this much, am I right Sabi?

There is a four move limit on Pokemon, just like there is in the anime. With people being able to use moves and having Pokemon, on top of other powers, we don't really need anymore then 4 moves per Pokemon. However [like in ASB] it can be any four moves the Pokemon can ever learn in any game ever.

We are also not having Mega Evolution in the RP, as we have the Augment System. You need an Augment Stone to conduit the Synergy between a human and a Pokemon, so Mega Stones aren't viable. Mega Stones do their own thing and it conflicts with the system. With buffed up humans and then Pokemon, we don't really need Mega Evolutions. There might be a use for them in another scenario, but right now they won't be in the RP.

Typically a Pokemon with a Synergy link to a human is easily understood, mostly by body language or by the human actually understanding what they're saying to a degree. Telepathy is a thing with those who are Psychic types as that makes the most sense.

The Pokemon Synergized become stronger than the average wild one and are more protected from becoming prey, especially those to Manifests who can consume their life force quite easily. While humans get alternate abilities, Pokemon gain the ability to communicate more with their human partners.

I did not plan for this particular RP to be apart of WAR, as I wanted to have it up and going by now [yay real life stuff], however the world [or something similar] and Augment system [and maybe something extra] may have something to do with WAR. A possible alternate story on a smaller scale, if you want to call it anything.

WAR is a forum-wide competition once held on Pe2k. All members of the forum are welcome to join in, and express their individual talents against other members. The members of the forum join a team created for the WAR specifically. These teams are often revived annually to try to win, yet again. The primary reward for this competition is essentially bragging rights for a whole year, because nothing is better than saying, "I'm the best."

To win, your team must accumulate the most points. To accumulate points, you and your teammates must participate in the areas they are the strongest in. Be it: Roleplaying, Art, Writing, Making terrible jokes, or even battling. That's it in a nutshell. If there is a WAR, I will be making a team, and my team will be winning. Be sure to join it.

The world I would say is pretty open. There will be some mini plots for some places so there should be a variety of directions for people to go in. I've tried to keep everything as simple as possible and all necessary information will be posted as references for everyone. Well we hit more snags. We can't seem to get away from them but we just need a couple of info finalization's and we should be good.

Also for quality, as long as they are coherent sentences, not one liners, and are not breaking any rules, you're good. Characters are pretty open, so long as they would work in the time era. While people would call my stuff high standard, I'm just asking for what you think is going to be decent at the least. I'm not very picky. XD
