Recently, scientists have found that humans have a sixth taste. There is sweet, sour, bitter, umami, saltiness, and now, carbohydrates. This study inspired me to make a thread on tastes, though I'll only be listing the five basic tastes, since carbohydrate is still in the works.

Of the five tastes (sweetness, sourness, saltiness, biterness, and umami), which do you prefer?

Sweetness
Characterized by tasting sucrose (or sugar). Often found in desserts.

Examples: Strawberry shortcake, honey

Sourness
Characterized by acidity. Often found in fruit.

Examples: Oranges, grapes, wine, lemon, sour candies

Saltiness
Characterized by sodium ions.

Examples: Table salt, pickled foods

Bitterness
Characterized by bittering agents.

Examples: Coffee, olives, citrus peel, celery, unripened fruits

Umami
Characterized as an "appetitive" taste. Also described as "meaty."

Examples: Tomatoes, grains, beans, meats, soy sauce, cheese, bacon

As for me, I really love bitter foods. I love coffee, olives, citrus fruits, etc. I really like to eat unripened fruit, like green apples, green blue berries, and green cherries.

Wow. This isn't really something I've ever really thought about before. I suppose unami would be my favorite. acidity is sourness? Well, if acidic foods are charactarised as sour, i suppose sour is second.

Never hear of "umami" before but I call it savoury. xD So, savoury is my answer.

I love sweet candies and foods to death. And if I had to choose a second favored taste, it would be sour.
