The PXR Chess Club

"What is the PXR Chess Club?"

The PXR Chess Club is a club I have started for, as you might have guessed, chess players. I have created it so that chess players will have a place to organize and play against each other online, as well as for tournaments to be held.

"But wait, how are we supposed to play chess over the internet!"

Using this site right here. (http://www.chess.com/) It requires sign up, but lt's free.

"Sounds fun! How do I join?"
Just say you want to join in the chat below! There are no requirements or minimum skill levels.

The Ladder

How It Works

Every player will start with 1000 points. The amount of points earned for a victory will depend on how many pieces you had on the board when you won, as well as how high your opponents score is. To determine the points, the following formula will be used: X*Y, with X standing for how many pieces NOT including pawns you had remaining on the board, and Y standing for 2% of your opponents score. This means that if you finished with 4 pieces on the board, and your opponent had 1000 score, you will gain 80 points. If your opponent had 2000 score, you would gain 160. For points lost for a defeat, if you lost to someone with higher points than you, you will loose 4% of your total points, and if you lose to someone with equal or lower points than you, you will loose 8% of your total points. All numbers will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.

It is requested that both members who took place in the battle post after a battle is completed with the results. It will not be required though. As long as problems don't start arising with claims being made of scores being lied on, just getting one member's post will suffice.

I'm surprised at how much of a response there was how fast! I am going to start a ladder. It will be in the reserved post, along with more information when it is up.

I'm actually pretty bad at chess, but it'll be fun right? :3

I created the current ladder system, but I it's not very good. I decided to try and come up with some better systems, and I am going to let the members decide which is best. If you don't like the ranking systems here, feel free to suggest your own.

Every player will start with 100 points. This means that if you finished with 4 pieces on the board, and your opponent had 100 score, you will gain 8 points. If your opponent had 500 score, you would gain 40. For points lost for a defeat, if you lost to someone with higher points than you, you will loose 5% of your total points, and if you lose to someone with equal or lower points than you, you will loose 10% of your total points. All numbers will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Every player starts with 100 points. For every win, you will gain points equal 10% of your opponents score. for every loss against someone with points equal or higher than you, you will loose 5% of your own score. For every loss against someone with points lower than you, you will loose 10% of your own score. All numbers will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Every player starts with 100 points. For every win against someone with points over 100 higher than you, you will gain 30 points. for every win against someone with more points than you, but not over 100 more, you will gain 20 points. For every win against someone with less points than you, you will gain 10 points. For loosing, the points will be the same, but reversed. Loosing to someone with less points would cost you 30, and loosing to someone with over 100 more would cost 10.

I will join. Also, I vote for the first system if you make it 1,000 starting points.

I gave it a couple of days, and I was in a rush to get it up. I agree I could have given it a little longer, and if anyone has any objections to the system it's not too late to state them.

Also, if everyone currently in the club joins the tournament, it would have 8 participants, which would be perfect.

Alright, after the first tournament didn't get anyone to sign up I kinda gave up on this, but I'm going to try and restart this, because it seemed to get quite a bit of interest and I really didn't put enough effort into trying to get it going.

I'm tagging everyone who signed up before to ask if any of you would still be interested in this. If at least half of you say yes I will try to get this running.

I'm interested. :P

Elbub

Depending on when it is, I may well be interested.

I used to play a lot of Chess, but less and less as the years have gone on. Any strategies I used to have are long gone, but at least I still remember all the rules :P

Dragon Master Mike

Alright, that is four people total then. When I get home from school today I will replace the names on the board and try to get an opening tournament running.

Dragon Master Mike
11-19-2014, 01:36 AM
Second attempt at an opening tournament!
This assumes everyone who posted showing interest wants to, but It will be just a standard tournament. It will just be a standard elimination tournament where losing means being eliminated and winning means moving on to the next round. Obviously with four people, this is only two rounds. It won't be much of a tournament, but it's just something to try and get things started. Just post below if you want to participate, and I will finalize the details and roll to see who will play who. I do plan to participate, so if everyone wants to participate and it is preferred, I can get someone else not participating to roll for who plays who.

I will. You should mention the other club members.

I removed them. I had mentioned them all (other than the two who I guess changed names and I don't know what they changed to) and given a few weeks to see who was still interested, and no one who I didn't mention above said anything. I figured if they still wanted to come back it's never too late to say so.

Tournament #1

I apologize for the delay. This was only a few minutes typing and I should have gotten it up sooner. The tournament is going to be a basic ladder tournament where the loser is eliminated and the winner moves on. Here are the matches for the first round.

Round One

Elbub Vs Nemesis

Dragon Master Mike Vs Bulbasaur

This is not meant to be taken too seriously. It's just to get everyone playing. I would request all games be finished by November 30th, but that deadline can be bent if need be, so don't panic if it is the day of and you still haven't gotten your game done. There is no specific time limit that you must use. Give yourselves as much or as little time as you would like.

If anyone wanted to see:

1 - Dragon Master
2 - Elbub
3 - Nemesis
4. - Bulbasaur

Roll: 2, 3. Elbub Vs Nemesis

Only 1 and 4 remaining. Dragon Master Vs Bulbasaur.

Would have been good if i mentioned that. I didn't say anything because I didn't really think it should be timed, but there is no untimed option on chess.com, so feel free to use whatever time limit you and your opponent want.

When would you like to play, Nemesis? I'm on a 0 timezone (GMT), but I tend to be available most of the time that I'm awake at the moment.

Dragon Master Mike
11-27-2014, 04:25 PM
Something I forgot to mention: Please don't forget for the purpose of the ladder to post how many pieces not including pawns the winner had at the end of the battle.

Edit: I lost my game to Bulbasaur. He won with all seven (non pawn) pieces still on the board (we only lost a pawn each the whole game)

Bulbasaur
11-27-2014, 04:43 PM
I have defeated Mike. One pawn from each side was lost. He's updating the ladder now.

Here's the moves just for the sake of having records:

Bulbasaur - White
Dragon Master Mike - Black

1.d4 e5
2.c4 Nc6
3.Nf3 Nxd4
4.Nxe5 c5
5.Bf4 Bd6
6.e3 g5
7.Bg3 f6
8.Qh5+ Kf8
9.Qf7#

Also, just because I don't think Mike mentioned this, choose random for the player colors. Look forward to facing my opponent. :D
