It is Pokemon Podcast Month and we got some exclusive content from your favorite Pokemon podcasters! From GO, TCG, talk, to tabletop and beyond! We have sent out the classic Podcasters Questionnaire to see what your favorite Pokemon podcasters have to say about podcasting!
And today we have….Chase and Cat from Pokémon: Aftermath to talk about podcasting and everything in between!
So what does the Pokémon: Aftermath have to say about…
What type of podcast do you have? Why do you make the type of podcast that you make?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: We have a Pokémon TTRPG real play podcast, set in a post-apocalyptic setting 50 years after a devastating war between Team Flare and Team Plasma. All five of us really enjoy TTRPGs and roleplaying so we wanted to share our story with everyone!
What drew you to the Pokemon franchise?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: I’ve been playing the Pokemon games since i was about 5 years old. Emerald was my very first video game and instantly fell in love with it. Cat: I know with me, it started with Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl. I got it on Christmas and was obsessed. Putting hundreds of hours in it (and not even figuring out how to get to the last gym for about 6 months. lol) Sure, I’ve watched the show before, but getting the games was something special. After that an obsession sorta happened. I’ve played every game, collect cards, and have even watched most of the series.
Now, combined with my love of DnD, formed this! When Chase introduced us to his idea of Pokemon: Aftermath, I jumped on it asap. And I’m glad I did, it’s been SO much fun. Overall, It’s been a journey, filled with ups and downs. However, the love of Pokémon has never gone away. And probably never will.
What inspired you to podcast?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: Well originally it was just an at home game with a system that I had just put together that I wanted to test out. But we had a really good time and as the sessions went on, we decided we wanted to share the story of the Trauma Team with everyone.
As far as inspiration goes, listening to The Roaring Trainer’s was a massive inspiration, as is apparent in Arc 1 of our game. Their story really inspired me to want to put out something that people could enjoy!
What keeps you going when it comes to podcasting and Pokemon?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: What keeps us going honestly has to be the fun of playing! When events happen that are just so unexpected and crazy and all you can do is respond in shocked silence, its one of the best feelings. We also have been getting increasingly more fan feedback and listening to how much people are enjoying the show really keeps us going.
What kind of feeling do you wish your listeners to have when listening to your podcast?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: We wish our listeners to gave a feeling of adventure when they listen. Our show goes through a lot of emotions, differing from each episode, but overall this is a show of adventuring into the unknown Wastelands, not knowing what may be just around the corner.
What is the hardest part when it comes to podcasting?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: The hardest part for us has to be scheduling to record. Just like it is with any roleplaying game, when you have a group of people with outside lives and families, it can be difficult to align schedules to record a 2 or 3 hour long session. We try our best but sometimes unexpected things happen and that’s okay.
What has been the best Podcast moment you have had?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: I want to say that our best podcasting moment so far has been in Episodes 11 and 12, as they were searching for the final key for a mysterious door deep in Eterna Forest. These episodes are home to tons of fun jokes, crazy encounters, and great player on Pokemon interactions. A Mareanie even sent Zarin to the hospital, which in it of itself is one of the funniest scenes in the entire show. Though I have some things planned for Episode 19 that is going to make it a wild episode!
If you can suggest an episode of your podcast to a new listener, which episode would it be? Why?
https://www.pokemoncrossroads.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/pokemon-aftermath.jpg?x41655Chase: You would think that I would recommend Episode 1 for a new listener right?
Well, our first 4 episodes are all character introduction, which are not totally necessary to understand the plot. They may help you get to know the character a bit more and give you some backstory on before they all came together as a group, but they all have some audio issues, as like I said previously, at that point we hadn’t planned to podcast yet so we were just recording for our notes so we could listen back to the sessions. Episode 5 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/0qKlcqLKQQLhXNZlC84i6U?si=hpt7TZW-S224DBwKZ0gUaw)is were I usually recommend people start, as that is the start of Arc 1 and where all the players come together for the first time. The audio is a bit better and it only improves from there!
I have started to listening to Pokemon: Aftermath but I am looking forward to what’s to come! It has been a fun listen so far.
Thank you for Chase and Cat from Pokémon: Aftermath for answering our questions. We hope that you give Pokémon: Aftermath a listen if you haven’t already. If you are a listener then let us know!
Signing off! Until next time!
