Chapter One "Brave New Digital World"
Eric Nakamura, a 14-year old Japanese student, was sitting in his classroom on the last day of school until September. It was his last day in middle school before entering high school. Everyone else seemed to be excited about it, except for Eric of course. His mother planned to take Eric with her to his grandparents' house for a week in July, WITHOUT any electronic devices. That was the worst part.
When the school day was finally over, he walked home, but on the way, he went into his local game store, and struck a conversation with one of the employees.
"Hi, uh... Excuse me? Are there any good NEW online games out? I WAS playing Land of Scrollcraft Online, but now I'm bored with it." Eric asked, rubbing the back of his head to get an itch beneath his thick, spiky blonde hair.
"There's one that just came out yesterday. It's called Digimon Aura Force. I just started playing it at home, and it's pretty addictive. If you want to find me, I'm on Server Eight. I highly recommend it, and it's free to play." The employee told Eric.
"Great! What's it like?" Eric asked in an ecstatic reply.
"It's kinda hard to explain, but it involves these creatures called Digimon, and they're kinda like the creatures you find in Wallet Monsters, but a lot cooler looking." The employee attempted to explain.
"Great! I'll buy it!" Eric said, picking up a copy of the online computer game and purchasing it, handing the employee the money.
When Eric got home shortly after, he found a note his father left him.
It read:
"Eric, your mother and I will be out on our anniversary dinner. Expect us back at 10:00 tonight, and don't forget to eat."
Eric sighed.
Eric ran upstairs and installed Digimon Aura Force.
When it was done minutes later, he made a profile, and designed his human character, who had red hair, green eyes, fair white skin, a black shirt with hot rod flames on it, blue jeans, and dark gray shoes.
He just used his own name out of laziness to name his avatar.
Then, he was asked to take a personality quiz to find out what his unique Digimon partner would be. Again, he just clicked random buttons because he just wanted to play the game.
He selected to play on Server 8, hoping to find the store employee who told him about the game in the first place.
Eric was literally sucked into the game.
Meanwhile, Eric's partner Digimon, a bipedal, brownish-gold lizard Digimon with red eyes and blue spot-like markings all over his body, was waiting nearby This Digimon was named Eublemon.
Eric then realized there were hardly any other players on. Then, someone approached Eric from behind. Little did Eric know, it was the guy who sold him this very game, but his avatar looked almost nothing like him. He also had a Digimon of his own following him. It was brown, ferret-like Digimon with cat-like paws, and red stripes on its lower back, and was named Mirumon.
"Hey, I think I recognize you from earlier today." Mirumon's human partner said.
"Um.. Hold on, are you the guy from GamePlace?" Eric asked.
"Yep. I'm Danny Miyagi, and this is my Digimon, Mirumon." The other player introduced himself.
"A friend of Danny's is a friend of mine." Mirumon said "Uh-oh! It seems you haven't met your Digimon yet! Hey, Danny. Let's show this noob the ropes."
"I'm not a noob." Eric replied, somewhat insulted.
Suddenly, Eublemon literally bumped into Eric's leg.
Eric looked back at the reptilian Digimon.
"Hey little fella, are you my Digimon?" Eric asked.
"Yes, but please.. Don't call me 'little fella', I am Eublemon. And here's a gift for all new players." Eublemon introduced himself, and handed Eric his Aura Filter, a type of Digivice, that every player in Digimon Aura Force uses frequently.
"Thanks, Eublemon. I'm Eric by the way." Eric said. "What does this thing do anyway?"
The Aura Filter's screen turned on, and a voice said "Welcome to Digimon Aura Force. I am your Aura Filter, use me to Digivolve your Digimon using your Digi-Aura and make them grow stronger in battle. Would you like to take the tutorial?"
Eric touched the screen, and hastily pressed "No".
"I don't have time for that stuff, I didn't need the tutorial for Land of Scrollcraft, and I managed just fine." Eric said
Eric and Eublemon rushed off from the brightly-colored Main Plaza, and off into the wide Digital World, entering a forest clearing.
Suddenly, another Digimon approached.
It resembled a purple o, vampire-like wolf with red bat-shaped designs on its body, and blades sticking out from its front paws. This was Sangloupmon.
"Errrrrrgggh." Sangloupmon growled menacingly.
"I don't think this guy looks very friendly, Eublemon." Eric said.
"I think Sangloupmon wants to eat you, Eric." Eublemon replied. "Quick! Grab your Aura Filter so I can Digivolve and fight this guy!"
Eric nodded, and pressed the first button he could. Fortunately, this was the button for Digivolution.
Eublemon was surrounded a strange light, this was the legendary DigiAura needed for Tamers to Digivolve their Digimon partners.
"Eublemon, Digivolve to...." Eublemon said, transforming into a much larger, prehistoric-looking draconian lizard Digimon with emerald green and dark brown scales in a tribal pattern, a forked tongue, and razor-sharp claws and fangs.
"Komodomon!" The Digimon said. This was Eublemon's Champion form, Komodomon.
Sangloupmon lunged at Komodomon, trying to bite him.
Komodomon jumped out of the way, and grabbed his foe from behind.
"Whoa. This is intense. I probably should've done the tutorial." Eric said.
Komodomon threw Sangloupmon about ten feet away, and Sangloupmon got up.
"Eric! QUICK! Which attack should I use?" Komodomon shouted.
Eric looked at Komodomon's attacks, and said "How about....?" Eric looked at Komodomon's list of attacks.
"Toxic Inferno?" Eric said, puzzled.
"Toxic Inferno!" Komodomon shouted, spitting a radioactive looking, poisonous flame breath at Sangloupmon, whom took great damage, and was poisoned by the attack.
The poison was was defeated Sangloupmon after about ten seconds, and Sangloupmon disintegrated into data, and went into Eric's Aura Filter.
Komodomon reverted back to Eublemon, while Danny and Mirumon finally caught up to witness the end of the ifght.
"Eric! Did Eublemon really defeat a Champion Digimon like Sangloupmon without Digivolving?" Danny asked
"Impressive. I guess you're not a noob after all." Mirumon added.
Eric looked around, and Eublemon ran up to Eric.
"Actually...." Eric said, interrupted by Eublemon, with ""I Digivolved to Komodomon to protect Eric!"
"Even Mirumon hasn't Digivolved to Champion yet." Danny said.
Mirumon, a bit angry, replied with "Don't rub it in."
Eric asked one last question.
"So, Danny, why aren't there many players online on this server?"
"This game just finished the beta, so it hasn't caught on yet. I think it will come out in America and Europe soon." Danny replied.
Meanwhile, in the distance, another player and a bright orange, penguin-like Digimon named Muchomon, were witnessing everything.
"So, Keisha, whaddya think? Are these two good enough to join our group?" Muchomon asked.
"I'll think about it. One of them Digivolved his partner in their first fight, and won without even trying." The other player said.
