This past weekend... I went to my first convention... ever.

So I purchased a 3-Day Ticket to Wizard World's Comic Con in Columbus, Ohio. Friday, October 31st at 3 PM until Sunday, November 2nd at 5 PM. Well my adventure started Saturday, November 1st at 11 AM. This is because on Friday, my brother's puppy escaped my yard, ran the city for about an hour, got picked up by a stranger and taken to another city. So I had to get him. I COULD have still gone and made it by 3 PM, but I was exhausted and wasn't feeling cheerful after having lost my brother's puppy. So I stayed home.

Saturday, November 1st at 11 AM. You're probably wondering who the young lady is in the graphic above. That young lady happens to be my step sister, as well as my ride around the monster city that is Columbus, Ohio. She showed up at my place, packed for the epic weekend we would surely have together, and I left with my 3DS and a hoodie. Let me tell you this, if you have never been to a convention, it's best to park as close as possible to the venue, or even get a hotel well in advance. Because you want to pack for the weekend, but you also don't want to end up carrying a lot of stuff around for HOURS. This is all without cosplaying. That's on a whole different level. There will be lines, you will stand in them, you will complain about how your feet hurt. The struggle is real.

So besides that, let's talk about how I went to this convention with 200 dollars and left with 25 cents. Conventions are pricey (this one, anyways), you definitely want to save up if you plan on buying merchandise while you're here. Also, know which celebrity you want to meet ahead of time, too. I came to this convention not really wanting to meet anyone and I met 4 people. The first of which is a man named Manu Bennett. I didn't buy the ticket to meet him, that was my sister. But they let us in as a pair:

(Good lord, my face... I was certainly caught off guard by the suddenness of everything.)

Mr. Bennett is known for his roles as Cruxis in the show called Spartacus, as well as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in the series called Arrow, and most popularly Azog the White Orc in the Hobbit movies. This was my first interaction with a celebrity in about 3 years. So naturally I look kinda spaced out in this photo. Manu was very cool about my temporary moment of being star struck. However, the photo was not so forgiving.

Then came the moment that I did pay for. The 2 and a half hour standing in line just to meet one man. A man I couldn't get a photo with, because his agent was trying to get through the line as fast as possible. This man is known primarily for his reprized role in the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, where he played the role of Freddy Kruger. That's right, I met, and got a signature from Robert Englund. Now, I didn't actually do this for me. I had told my friend Megan that Robert Englund would be at Comic-Con, and she was sad that she couldn't go with me. So I had him make the signature out to her, and I plan on giving her the signed poster as a gift for Christmas.

(I think I just heard Freddy Kruger behind me...)

Robert Englund shook my hand for this. I gained the respect of a very famous person. It was indeed an interesting moment. One that I will remember for years to come. However, that was the end of my night. I didn't know there was an AFTER PARTY or I would have stayed for that. But it happens, I'll remember next year when I'm dancing around as Cyclops or whichever sack of characters I decide to dress up as. xD

Sunday, November 2nd at 11:00 AM.

We're at my Aunt's house, who kindly let us stay at her house that night. We begin to travel. Our dollar menu budget went to poop when I decided to try new things for eating. Probably 60 dollars went into eating food. 50 for Robert Englund, 50 for random posters, 8 for an X-Men patch for my future Cyclops costume, and... 40 dollars to meet a Hobbit. Did I just say.. a Hobbit? Yes I did.

(My hair was abominable, so I wore my hood.)

Sean Astin. Better known as Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. Also Mikey Walsh from the Goonies. In the flesh, and taller than I imagined. His exact words after this photo was taken were, "I feel like I'm back in college, that was a very frat boy photo I just took." It was a fun moment. Which there were lots of at Comic Con. Surprisingly, there was actually one moment that was incredibly awkward. Just before coming to bother the Hobbit, I bumped into another celebrity.

I nearly physically collided with Brian Krause from Charmed. He's called Leo Wyatt on the show, though. It was an awkward exchange, but still awesome to get to meet a man from a show I grew up watching. No photos with him, though. It was more of a shake-hands-and-go type of thing. Now that I'm passed the celebrity part. Let's talk about the COSTUMES! There were good ones, okay ones, bad ones, and just awful ones.

I don't have photos, unfortunately. I was a little out of my element and in a new environment, so I had to get a feel of things. I'm sure you'll understand. I'll say that the most elaborate and detailed costumes were of Deathstroke, Darth Vader, Maleficent, and TMNT Raphael. I wish I would have obtained photos of these costumes because they were so elaborate and well thought out. Unfortunately, some were not so thought out, and were literally Wal-Mart bought Halloween costumes that were terrible to begin with. Next time I'm at a convention, I will definitely get photos for all of you to see.

That being said, I did encounter a few Pokémon cosplayers. Most of them being downright awful, the rest being relatively adorable. I joked with my sister about one, saying, "I didn't know Pikachu wore a tutu!" Giggle fits ensued. Another girl dressed as Umbreon, and most other females dressed as Misty. The guys? You guessed it... Ash. What a downright boring costume. I felt so bad that these guys couldn't attempt something a little more creative than that. If Ash, do something unique with it. Don't just throw on the generic Gen 1 outfit and hope to get brownie points. xD

That's all I'll say about all that. That's actually all for this Comic-Con. Go ahead and ask me whatever you would like to ask me. I will answer honestly. However, let me answer some that may pop up:

1. Did you direct the Pokémon cosplayers to PxR? - I did. Whether they show or not, I cannot say.

... honestly, I had a brain fart after that one.. So yeah! Let's talk.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun and met some cool celebrities! I have never been to a convention or anything. The closest I've gotten is the Pokemon National Championships this year, which I doubt really compares. xD Conventions seem kind of intimidating.

Conventions are intimidating at first, but it grows on you pretty fast. One of the workers told me it can be very addictive and I almost immediately saw what she meant by that. I felt right at home. I'm the biggest geeky weirdo I know, and I was amongst thousands of others geeky weirdos that weekend. It was fantastic.

I reiterate, though.. you need to save your money. I know people who spend thousands of dollars at this convention every year. I went there with 200 dollars and lost it in a couple of hours. I'm going to accumulate about 500-600 for next year's comic con and hope it pans out a little better for me, financially.

Despite finances, it was actually a lot of fun. There's video game areas, TCG areas, a zombie shooting simulator where you fire pellets at cardboard zombies. There's actually a lot to do that I didn't even list. So you're never actually bored unless you're standing in line. There was a point that, if I had the money, I would have been able to just walk up to the entire cast of Charmed because there weren't a lot of people in their lines.
