Thanks! It's really easy to do the poof effect, thankfully. xD Not sure why I chose pink for teleporting/poofing.
Anyway- sorry that this page was late. I've been in and out of the doctor this week. Some health issues have come up. Not that it's a surprise- anyone who looked at my family history could have guessed I'd come down with it too. It's left me eternally exhausted for the last week or two. x_X

Just to clarify the news post... that was not an April Fools joke. Not entirely. Honestly, I don't know anymore.
Everything I said in the news post was true. The comic is cancelled. My motivation for it has hit the lowest point thus far, and I do not see that changing for the better.
I do my best to cover up my more negative thoughts (no one wants to deal with that) most of the time, which is why this may seem a bit out of the blue. I've had conflicting feelings about the future of PRS for a few months now- since November, really.
So this is it, guys. PRS is officially canceled. As said in the news post, I'll post up the remainder of the buffer on schedule, but once the buffer is out, it's over.

W-wait it's not a joke? D': Darn, it was starting to get really good too :C Though I can understand if it's a burden on you. Worse thing than a comic cancelling is having the author continue it but not want to.
Is a summary of the plot going to be posted so we at least know what was going to go down?

I've been thinking about the cancellation of the comic. I know I'm not in the best state of mind as of late (stressed/depressed) and perhaps I need to stop and think about this a little more. Honestly, I really don't know what to do anymore.
I want to continue PRS, but at the same time, I'm not sure I've got the energy, time, or motivation for it. For those who didn't read the April News post, I've been having some health issues that have been making things a bit more difficult.
I'll spend a little time to think more on the future of PRS for now. Sorry for all of this. I know better than to make decisions when I'm in this state. v-v
At the very least, until I decide what I will be doing with PRS, I will continue to work on the buffer pages that I had already started.
On that note- this Tuesday (Monday for PXR) update was meant to be a bonus update reward.
No worries! Take whatever time you need! Your health comes first and it's good to really step back sometimes.
Remember, we're always here for you!

Thanks you two (Forgot to reply in the last post along with the bonus page: if you haven't seen it, go do that so you don't miss over it.) I guess I'm just letting everything get to me. ^_^' Been a stressful few weeks. It does mean a lot to get awesome kind posts from people though. <3
I'm trying a few new things with my comic-making process- maybe that'll help a little with the motivation. So far I've just done each page in one sitting- so I'm trying to break it down into small chunks over the week- and working on multiple pages at once so I look away and come back to each (it's easier to spot errors when you're not staring at it for 5 hours). Meaning, finish one, do the shading for the next, the colors for the one after that, the lines for the next one, sketch for the next, etc. etc. I'd be working on 5 different pages at once- but if I do one or two steps a day, I get more work done over time and maybe not be driven insane. So far, it's going well.
And I'm working on Nghtfall on the side- that's helping a lot. Nice to draw my original characters again after so long.

I started reading this ages ago and now I will try and catch up! :) I read chapter one so far. Really enjoying the characters. I loved the page with the fiery Moltres shape!

Caught up yay! The lighting really is super gorgeous :O I love all your characters, they're so fun. I really like the background with the legends being killed and the war and everything. It's really interesting and a cool idea!

If you were around for that part of the livestream, you'd have seen me fail a few times trying to do the splat text. xD First it was "SPAT" but Robin caught the laugh of the L. Thank you to those of you who kept in touch with me over the last few months. Those who sent me messages on skype, DA, etc. to ask how I was doing or just to chat even when I was anti-social as hell and didn't respond. It really means the world to me. You guys are true friends!

It's okay. This section has been dead anyway. I stopped checking for responses a few pages ago, really.
And yeah- I use a lot of layer styles. Usually a mix of Multiply, lighten, and sometimes vivid light, screen, and overlay. The lineart colors are just a clipping mask over the lines. I forgot to do that for this next page, but oh well.
Note: There's an error on the previous page in the last panel. I colored in the wrong twin. Whoops. Will fix at a later date.

I'm only up to chapter 2 currently, but it seems like you're introducing a lot of characters. Not a bad thing. I've noticed some of the background characters seem to be generic animals, not a bad thing, just an observation.

Uuuh... there's no generic animal characters? All characters are Pokemon.
I've actually been reading this over time when I get the chance. So far its been really great and I've loved it! I need to keep pushing myself to read more and catch up >.>

I post a new page every Friday when I'm not on hiatus. Sometimes on Tuesdays. xD I've got a schedule of upcoming updates posted in each news post I make. xD But yeah, I can start pinging you if you want- some people don't like the extra pings, so I don't do them unless I'm responding to something or have been requested to do so.
The April Fools page was just pure silliness. My love for MTMTE is no secret at this point. That comic keeps me sane (and simultaneously insane) these days. xD
And the shading for that panel isn't much different than I usually do- just a layer of smoke in front of it. xD My layer setup for the latest pages has looked like this:
- Line Art
--- Mask for line colors
- Flat Colors
-- 5 layer masks
--- 1) Soft highlight / light
--- 2) Multiply Layer (shadows - 50% opacity)
--- 3) Hard light (Usually on a Lighten Style - 50% opacity)
--- 4) Dark Layer (Multiply- just darkens the base colors.)
--- 5) Markings/Etc.

As I've done every year for this comic's birthday, PRS will be updating EVERY day for the next week! =D Aren't you excited? I would be if I had a buffer ready at the time of typing this. xD
The next week of updates will consist of the remainder of Chapter Five. After that, PRS will be going on a brief hiatus. How long the hiatus is will be up to how many bonus updates are earned by the end of this week. Right now, Chapter Six is set to launch on the 3rd of June (MY birthday).
I'll have something for you guys to pass the time with though. =P THAT will start on Monday. =D

I was originally going to cut the chapter here... well- Chapter FOUR that is. I split Chapter Four into two cause well- length. I moved a scene from the next chapter to the end of this one since it works well here too- and this way I don't have to deal with a hiatus in the middle of suicide week. xD
I had a lot of fun with that last panel- it's nice to do some cool lighting over all the warm recently. It's also been a while since I've drawn Naya in a non-silly manner.

Wait what just happened...I come back and see a giant jump to the future, and it does n't seem good at all. Anywho, I'm not really sure what others think but I really liked the kinda faded text bubbles as opposed to the clear white ones, but all up to you. Still great and can't wait to see what the twins get up to and who they finally end up killing, it's gonna be themselves though.

Goodness, it has been a while since I’ve read this comic, the last i read was the growlithe twins pressing all the buttons haha. Of course, I come back to more Growlithe goodness, dang i love and want to hurt these kids. But they always win me over, like making the Deino quit to look for Stella instead. I about died. You got me so excited and then I saw the next pages or rather chapter isnt out yet xD I love how you draw fire, I really do.
Naya looks so relaxed in that water though... I wish I could be that relaxed xD

It's one of many changes that I'll be making to the comic in upcoming updates. I'll be posting an addition to the June news post regarding these changes, so go read that if you're interested.

I've had fun drawing Nyra. Still getting used to Houndoom anatomy though- and those horns are proving to be a pain. Not just her horns- Cero's too. xD And it was confirmed a while back that Cero is her father.
And yeah- Moltres may be one of the Legends, but she cares for the Flame Guard like her family. Not many legends in the PRS world interact with normal mon though.
As for Alex's death- who did it will be a mystery for a while longer. =P
And thank you! Tryingto make the pages look more official comic like and all. Lots of little changes.

Suicune's Fire - I'm just really bad about keeping his scale consistent. But for best comparison- the panel where the twins are pouncing him towards the end of Ch. 5 is accurate. And yeah- Bern doesn't have the best memories. Blaming Nyra IS stupid- he knows that. He's probably covering something else up instead.
Alphys - I regret to inform you, that the twins have no lines for the rest of the chapter! They might not even appear again until next chapter. Things are super serious in the comic pages! (I might add them in the background for a panel or two though if I have time/space)

I've been trying to be a bit better about the art in PRS pages lately- these next few (and the currently incomplete Pages 19-20) have all been quite a challenge to get done since they're either heavy in action or rely on the character's expressions. Pages 19/20 are going to kill me when I get around to finishing them. They're stuck in sketch stage while I take a anger-induced hiatus cause of complaints. xD

There was a hidden thing on this page that I put in as an easter egg/hint. I think this version of the page still has it, but I removed it from SJ/DA because people complained it was too difficult to find (and granted, no one has found it without lots of hints/help). The complaints over this page are also the reason PRS is currently on hiatus. I got a bit miffed over the complaints and am still a bit annoyed over it. I'll try to get off the hiatus soon, but meh. Motivation drops like a rock when I get angry over PRS-related complaints. I don't want to force the next page cause it's kinda-sorta important. And by that, I mean very important. Especially on the art side. I want it to look good and not mess it up cause I'm forcing myself to work. xD
Understandable. People can be far too demanding, imo. PRS is your gift to us. We really should be thankful you're sharing your wonderful talents and story with us.

Omfg the improvement between that redone prologue page and the original one... Holy absolute crap. o____o It's utterly incredible. Like, breathtakingly incredible. I'm not even exaggerating. I'd forgotten what the first page looked like so I went back and checked, then compared it, AND HOLY CRAP. Neko that's incredible!!!!! You've come so far! Imagine how you'll be in five years. .-. Truly, amazing. I can't wait to see the rest of the prologue. 0w0
I absolutely love the panel where Bern's mama comes in and she's like "Get away from my son!" So powerfully done. I could hear the rage in her voice when I read it. She looks so powerful. And I adore her design. :D

As for the eater egg, I have no idea, but I can see some orange within the black in the gaps in Bern's mama's wings in the last panel. I cheated and zoomed in on Photoshop, haha. It doesn't seem to make a picture though so that's probably not it. XD Idk.

I know, right? The old page is just -terrible-. I hope to do one redo page a month when I'm not on hiatus, so it'll be a good while before I redo all the pages through where I want to. I still have a lot of work to do though. Thankfully, this was the whole point of PRS- to get better at drawing by giving me something to work on long-term. I think it's been working pretty well thus far. xD
I had a lot of fun with Pyrra's design (that's her name- not stated in the comic, I don't think). I love drawing dragons if it weren't obvious already. She's the first bipedal dragon I've drawn. I've got her original concepts up in the concept/art thread. She's quite fun to draw. And never mess with mama dragon. It's not a good idea.
And yes. Seriously. People complained that I made the easter egg too hard to find. So hard to find that you can't see it. I made it hard to find because once you find it, it reveals a major spoiler. I mean, it's not like I don't plan to reveal said thing in the near-ish future (I'm thinking by the end of this arc- so not too far off.) And it's fine, I should be used to this crap by now. >.> I'm a petty person and went on hiatus just cause. =D And I wish you the best of luck finding the secret. It's VERY well hidden.
As for the... heh. Dark Pulse. I used references from the anime then used those to shape how I would personally draw the attack. I inked it all in as pure black on many layers then used clipping masks to color it in. Add in some glow effects and THERE. Easy 'Dark Pulse' effect. =D
Edit: I'd post the video for that page, buuuut... It could give away the secret. So I'll have to hold out on that until the thing is officially revealed on panel.

It is quite unusual for wild Nekos to post pages on days that are not Fridays... but Neko does not care. Neko posts it up anyone cause she feels like. Now suffer. This last frame was beautiful and touching!
Thank you! I struggled a lot on deciding how to portray this scene. Part of my hiatus from a while back (when I got frustrated with people complaining about PRS) was because I was frustrated and didn't want to work on this page until I could get a clear head and work at 100%. I'm not one to draw emotional scenes often, so I wanted to get it right. I think I did better than I thought I would, so I'm happy.
And bless the charmander line and their fire tails. Seriously, that helped so much for adding the mood- and gave me an warm colored light source to work with in contrast to the cool blues of the night. I was worried about the lighting until I remembered I could use Bern's tail as a main focal point. Other ideas involved having the fire from the battle spread, but story-wise that didn't make much sense to me. Aaaaah. I'm glad people like that last panel though. <3
Thankfully the next page won't have as many delicate scenes. Lots of emotion, just none I need to be this careful with. I do fear the action scenes that are coming up though. The first few thumbnails alone have me worried. RIP Neko.
Chapter EIGHT on the other hand will have some more sad in it. Neko, why do you do this to yourself?

I think you did it superbly. :] You have a knack for setting and mood and such. Your backgrounds are always top notch too, which is awesome and admirable. :D You definitely did it awesomely. :D :D Good thing that their burning tails came in handy. C:

Most important point first, I really love seeing the art from the beginning of chapter 1 go from quite good to insanely epic Neko knows how to kick ass into chapter 6. Witnessing that transition is quite nifty and enjoyable awesomesauce. The art in the first few chapters is still quite good, but later on, I see those signature Nekomata-specialty lighting and highlight effects working their way into the art and holy snap, that really makes the stuff shine really brightly! I know it's extra work but holy cow, don't stop doing that!
Also, eyes. I know I mentioned this before in some of your other art threads, but I love the way you do eyes. They shine, they gleam, and boy are they eye-catching (you see what I did there?). XD There's also an EXTREME amount of improvement from the way you illustrate fire and water. I look at the art in the prologue and the art in chapter six and it's almost a wonder "hey, are these by the same artist?" The transition is amazing. I love the new art and it's definitely kickass to amazing degrees. Fire goes from looking fuzzy to really looking bright and even casting illumination effects! Heck, look at the way Moltres glows now! I love the new style. Wow, you've come a long way but I see you trying new things and they totally click and work so well for this.
Storyline-wise, I actually thought a lot of the mysteries surrounding the characters probably would have been solved by now, but nooooopppe, they only got more intense! I think the element of the storyline that gets me wondering the most is Naya's connection with Echo, who seems to be this mysterious, darker Flareon that has the keys to Naya's true memories and recollections, but has her on a leash and seems to follow her wherever she goes. Seriously, WHO IS THIS DUDE? Not the most trustworthy guy around, but it seems if Naya wants to unlock the knowledge about her true self and her lost memories, she only has Echo to look for answers. Thing is, you've got me wondering what happens when this dude knows too much. And then there's the fact only Naya is aware of Echo's presence.
Bern's storyline arc is unique as well. And man, this dude sure is tough and mature for a Charmander, but considering his past, it's no surprise he went full-on hardcore the way he did. And I'm almost ashamed I nearly missed "Stay strong" in that last, faded speech bubble between Bern and his Charizard mother. Seriously, make the Houndoom that did that pay. Dearly. >:( Bern, you have full diplomatic immunity for what you do to that Houndoom. Go whack off his head and rearrange his face all wrong.
My goodness, this stuff rocks and is ultra inspiring. PLEEEEASSSSEEE keep going with this. I will chase you and haunt you if you don't! X3

It's fine. xD PXR doesn't really stalk the comics section as a whole. There's maybe 4 or 5 people tops that are actually caught up with the comic- and I'm sure at least one or two of those follow it on SJ or DA first. And considering we're at... what- 160 pages? It's a lot to catch up with at this point.
And yes! Art improvement! The whole purpose of me starting a webcomic was to force myself to draw more and improve my art. I'd say the whole project has served it's purpose very well! PRS has helped my style grow so much over the years. It's kind of exciting to see the improvement. You can look at each chapter and see some amount of improvement. Even between the two latest ones! I still have a ways to go and I'm always developing my style, but I'm happy to have come this far. Of course, I try not to spend too much time on each page, so I know I can do better now if I weren't trying to be time efficient.
I've always felt eyes were an incredibly important part of any form of art/visual story telling. After all, the eyes are one of the most expressive parts of any character. So they get treated a little differently than the rest of the character when it comes to shading! I've got a layer that darkens or lightens all of the character flats to fit the current lighting situation- but I don't let this layer effect the eyes. That's why they appear to glow, especially on the darker settings. They're missing a shading layer that is applied to everything else. And don't even get me started on the fire. I swear, the number of different ways I've drawn fire in PRS is absurd. xD I don't think I'll settle down with any one style for a while yet though. I do think it helps that I've accepted a more comic approach to it than a painterly one though. I've started to go that way with a lot of effects overall. I think it matches better as a whole... even if it typically requires more inking. </3
And the story. I started this comic a bit... unprepared? So the pacing at the beginning is a lot different than I'd like it to be. In fact, I'll be redoing a lot of the older pages and trying to condense it all into 20 page chapters. It should be more than possible without having to take out scenes (I might add some as I redo things!). Chapter Six is a better example of the amount of story I want to happen per chapter- it's hard to find just the right balance of how much per page. xD I'm hoping to have the temple stuff wrapped up in Chapter 7 with Chapter 8 being the conclusion to the Greyfog story and a lead in to the next story! This story went on longer than I thought it would. Hopefully I'll get better about pacing as I go. xD
But onto Naya and Echo. Their connection/relationship will be a key part of the entire story. We'll learn more about them both as time goes on- but it's not something I'll be revealing anytime soon. I've dropped some hints to both of their backgrounds already, but small ones. I'll continue to do so until the time comes to throw some big reveals in! That said, PRS is going to be long-ish, so that might be a while. I do love Echo. They're a snarky jerk that loves to pick on Naya for laughs. Poor Naya. I'm actually quite excited to get to -both- of their backstories.
As for Bern. Hah. Like I said already- I never meant for the Greyfog story to last this long. In fact, this was just meant to introduce a few concepts of the story- the villains, some of the legends, and get Naya into her first fights. Nothing big, but the whole thing became a lot more plot relevant as a whole when I did some more work on the Greyfog history- namely the fight between the Day and Night Guards. Bern was going to be a side character that would exist purely for this arc, but... well, his backstory grew and became tangled up in the larger plot. He's definitely going to have an existing plotline after this- one that has been hinted to already! I'm not even done with the flashbacks yet! You'll see more of Zila soon enough. You think you hate her now? JUST WAIT.
And no worries. I have no intent of stopping PRS at this time. It'll be a very long-term project, but I want to see this through the end. I do need to plan a bit more so I can control the pacing better and get the plot moving a bit faster though. I'm so excited to get into some of the other story arcs I've got planned. And new characters. Introduce them all. I'm too excited for Chapters 7 and 8 right now. I promised myself I'd finish the script/thumbnails before resuming updates though. </3

Thank you! I always try hard to get the mood just right... not sure if my backgrounds are 'always' top notch though. XD I do tend to glaze over them sometimes. Gradients are my friend. xD To be fair, not every panel -needs- a background. I try to spend too long on pages, so backgrounds get cut out of panels frequently.

Lighting has been fun for this setting- since it's a dark location with only torches as a light source, I get some nice contrast in there. xD I think I'm about ready for a change in scenery though. Thankfully not TOO long before that happens.

Ahaha. Definitely a lot of fighting going on. Who will win is anyone's guess though. =P Remember that Moltres is 4x weak to rock types~!

Yeah... might have been a good idea to work on those moves when she had some downtime rather than wait until things got really dicey. Like... now. How Naya avoided having her face turned into a jigsaw puzzle remains a bit of a mystery.
Great page once again! Awesome use of colors, expressions, and more of that enjoyable highlighting style you have!

How Naya is not a jigsaw puzzle yet: All those traps in the temple were good practice! xD Poor Naya though!

Pardon the delayed response (and lack of updates!) - it's been a hectic/rough few weeks in life. Easing out of another hiatus!
Naya is slowly learning how to Flareon. Barely. But she'll look adorable doing so, so it's okay! =D That Kabutops is definitely due for a whack!

It's questionable if Naya can actually deal with a two-on one situation of Kabutops, Iron Tail or not, especially if Moltres is downed like that. Then again, it's questionable if the Abra can't just teleport everyone out of the bubble dome.

I don't like Naya's odds there. Pretty sure that Iron Tail didn't OHKO that third Kabutops too.
Also, we've already determined Amber's teleporting is probably going to be a terrible idea. Everyone will end up in the walls, too far away, or off a cliff.

Things changed very quickly, didn't they?
The Exeggcute has actually been around since Chapter 5. He's been hiding in the backpack. His siblings are scattered though. You may've seen one in Ch4 too!
Mist is playing a fairy deck consisting of Gardevoir-ex, Mega-Gardevoir-ex, Florges-ex, Diancie-ex, Mega Diancie-ex, Aromatisse, and Xerneas. General strategy is to use Xerneas to load up energies on the bench, use fairy stadium to swap in Mega Gardevoir, and have Aromatisse move energies to Mega Gardevoir to maximize damage. =) Effective deck that I actually use. High-Res version of the page has little color blobs that show Mist having Xerneas and Aromatisse in her hand. I'd imagine the card in play is another Xerneas or Florges. =D
And damn- why didn't anyone think of that sooner? Amber teleporting the enemies would've been a hilarious way to win the fight. It'd be the best accidental win. Who knows where the poor baddies would've been sent. In the walls? In the flame? In solid rock 50 feet below? Into the spike pit? So many chaotic possibilities!

Here's the FINAL page of Chapter 7! We're going on hiatus until I have Chapter 8 ready for production. I'll post sneakpeaks, progress, etc. in a dedicated Ch8 thread that will be made in the near future. Reggie fanboying over Creo is amazing. For that matter, didn't see Creo getting a mega coming at all, but I could see why he was chosen for cavalry duty with that kind of power.
I read back just to get those two names.
Also, the Twins are having that 'we're gonna do something really mean to these guys' look about them right now.

I love that shot with the Mega Houndoon. It's epic and just swells with the badassery and makes it clear this is NOT a Pokémon you want to mess around with.
This was a great finisher to Chapter Seven and still leaves a lot of intriguing questions to be answered. Again, the artwork is awesome and so satisfyingly colorful. I also like the way the storyline weaves and turns and makes it hard, if not impossible, to predict what's going to happen next. It can go anywhere from here and that's what makes it awesome and so interesting. Moltres could have died, it was possible the flame could have been saved, there was no telling how that battle was going to end out, and it could have been anyone's game. Not to mention any character could have possibly been killed or captured.
Definitely great work, I love the action, the intrigue, the artwork, the character personalities, and of course, the comic relief. Rising Shadows has it ALL and it's fantastic. :)

Ye! I figured the idea of fighting any mega in PRS would be enough to deter any normal enemy from fighting. xD Had a ton of fun drawing him!
I'm trying to make the story hard to accurately predict while still leaving a big trail of breadcrumbs for people to follow. I know some things might be easier to guess than others if you think about it hard enough, but hopefully when these big reveals come it'll be "OH- THAT MAKES TOTAL SENSE, HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT COMING?!" type reactions.
Fun fact: Original ending to this chapter had Moltres die instead of the flame. 2nd 'draft' saved Moltres but had the baddies escape. It was actually a last minute decision to have them surrender. Death is a very real possibility in PRS.
And I'm really glad you're enjoying it so far. <3 It's a huge learning experience and I'm never really sure how things will be received!

RIP. His name is Cero! Now everyone's gonna be calling him Creo for the rest of eternity. xD Ahahaha! Reggie is indeed a huge nerd and I love him for that.
Fun Fact #2: Reggie is an Indiana Jones reference. "Joc- there's a snake in the plane!" "Oh, that's just my pet snake, Reggie!" "I don't like snakes!" - Yes. Reggie has a hat. It will mysteriously appear on his head before long.
The Mega wasn't in the original plans- PRS started pre-GenVI- but it was too tempting not to add in. There will be more on Mega evolutions later in the story and whatnot.
The twins are best guard dogs. Everyone fears their antics enough to stay put.

Yeah! I'm excited to put in the order for a few stickers, but I have to time the upload so the people who want to get a sticker can get them right when they go up. Redbubble took down the Naya stickers for copyright- but anyone who orders -before- takedown is safe. I don't know where to put the sticker yet though. xD
Naya is gonna grow so much before this is over. Hopefully. xD
Mist's TCG match was another last minute thing. I wrote in the script that she's fighting the Yamask and it just... it just didn't suit Mist to fight unless she's really upset. xD I even have a list for Mist's main deck there. Bwahahahaha. Throwing in silly stuff is always fun, despite the more serious stuff happening alongside.
