I got a tablet not long ago and I am still learning to use it and trying to find my 'style', I guess. So I figured I would make a thread to dump all my sketches.
Any tips/suggestions you have for particular pictures or in general are appreciated! :D

Bulbasaur x Dratini fusion. I tried Pikachu, Archen and Mew before settling on this. xD It reminds me of a strange snail.

For not having much experience with drawing people, that's a great mugshot of Alice. So cute! Your dog anatomy is a little rough, though; mainly in the back legs. Four-legged animal anatomy is tough at first, but when you think of it by comparing a dog's feet / forearms with humans'...
http://hippie.nu/~unicorn/tut/img/basics/animalanatomy/compare-human.jpeg
It makes it a little easier to understand. Even I have a lot of trouble with quadruped anatomy sometimes, especially with sitting.

I am happy to see you opened up a sketch thread. What program are you using? Congratz on the tablet purchase, what model did you get? I am planning on getting a new model and upgrading soon since I want to jump right back into art this summer! EEk.
My advice is to focus on your lines, if you get perfect lines then everything else comes easy. Draw and redraw them over and over, the undo shortcut on your laptop is your new best friend. Of course unless you're going for the sketchy look. I am happy to answer questions on basics if you need <3 Looks like you're off to an awesome start with testing the waters. You're super creative so I know you'll be there in no time <3

Thanks for the comments and advice you guys! I am not a very patient person so I tend to prefer a sketchier style, I guess. So I don't have to spend too long making everything look perfect when I'm just sketching for fun. I will definitely try and work on that though. :)

All of these sketches are really awesome Sarah! I used to want to learn how to draw/sketch things better. After a good year of trying years ago....I never went any further lol. Never got any progression myself and they always turned out....well flat out terrible haha. Good to see great artists out there at least! Always loved looking at good art sketches (kinda like the avatars/sigs/banners thing too).

Thanks! It is pretty hard. I'm not great at it either, but I feel like I'm improving really slowly. xD Sometimes I go backwards though haha! I got to a point where I could draw pretty well with the pen tool and mouse on photoshop, it just takes ages. Whereas it's much quicker with the tablet, but less refined. It's just for fun anyway. :D You should give it a shot again if it interests you!

I really like this one, too! Honestly I think you should think about redrawing this as a fully developed piece of art, rather than a sketch. My only nitpick is that her head is just a teeny bit too wide in comparison to her body...even for being in a very animanga-inspired style.
The hair on this one turned out wonderfully. I actually really like how you bothered to detail it, it gives it quite a bit of texture! I also love this one that I just now spotted:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/alice2.png
Beautiful! Again, I think you should think about redrawing some of these as fully-developed art pieces.

Thanks so much for the feedback Speed-X! :) I really appreciate your comment about the head width! It's something I just did not see until you pointed it out! xD I quite like the pink picture so I may try and do a 'proper' version. I just feel like my sketches always look better than the finished lineart. Like it loses something? I dunno. But anyway, thanks so much!

I totally know what you mean about sketches being better. Why do I think it is? I think it might be because your brain can pick between a few different sizes amongst the shaky lines, and it evens it out to make it look the most appealing. But if there was one solid line, there's no room for interpretation, so if it's slightly off, you're gonna notice it more. I probably just made that entire thing up and that's not actually a thing. But it's how I interpret it. XD
Speedy is a great critique. c:

That makes sense! Sketching makes it look more full somehow. When I do the lineart it always looks so flat and like there is 10x more space I need to colour haha. xD I still haven't really got the technique down where you change the thickness of the lineart to give the picture depth and stuff! @_@
I think I'm leaning more towards a 'painting' sort of style than super clean artwork at the moment. I really love watercolour painting and would love to be able to replicate that kind of style!

Bahaha yeah! Alice is super excited because she's wanted an Aerodactyl for ages. Nevermind that this Aerodactyl is slightly mad >:D
Oh stars! That is a great idea. How did I forget! XD I will probably edit some in if I remember! Thank you! <3

Gem already mentioned it, but the patterns on the tail and tips of the ears are really cool as well. I love it! Awesome job Sarah!

What Calvin would have had if he had a Pikachu doll instead of a tiger.
It's definitely quite cute. I like how you did the shading, great job all around! :D
Ack, I love your drawings! They've got such a soft and peaceful look to them. I'm not sure how to describe it exactly. But they're pretty.
And especially that latest Pikachu doll one. It's a lifeless doll but it exudes a warm feeling to it. A little sad but a little comforting. (That's how I feel looking at it, anyway. xP) I like it a lot. <3

FAIRY TYPE TYRUNT FOR GCEA. You had to change the type of a Pokemon! This guy is Dragon/Fairy!
I really struggled with this concept cos there are just SO MANY options. After posting some random concept sketches people seemed to like the fairy tyrunt idea, so I went with that!

Tyrunt as a Fairy type is quite cute. It looked great as a sketch doodle before, but it looks even better now as a full-fledged picture!

So these are not sketches but I was transferring some photos from my phone to my laptop and thought I'd share some of the craft things I've made in the last 1-2 years. xD Today I'll talk about a really fun cross-stitch project I did.
My grandma taught me to cross-stitch when I was quite little. A couple years ago, I thought I would have another go at it. I had forgotten everything I'd learned by that point, but it's pretty easy to pick up! I started out buying some thread, embroidery needles and a pre-printed template that I could cross-stitch over. I never got anywhere near finishing this piece. xD But it was a good way to learn. Here's what it looked like:
It's a bit hard to tell, but the only part I filled in at this point is the light brown and a bit of light green near the top.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/WP_20141115_002.jpg
So doing this, I had an idea. I'm not such a fan of the cross-stitch game sprites and stuff. So I decided I wanted to do an actual proper picture. As soon as I saw Speed's amazing TCG pixel overs I knew exactly what to do!!!
I was going to cross-stitch an image from a TCG card! >:D
Speed's TCG pixel overs are great as they use a minimum number of colours but still look fantastic. When cross-stitching, the number of colours is really important. The more colours, the more difficult it is. It quickly gets quite crazy! So my first idea was to do a TCG pixelover on the computer with minimal colours and then use that as a template. But I quickly discovered this was a LOT harder than it looked. And it didn't help that I chose a pretty difficult TCG card to start with...
http://assets.pokemon.com/assets/cms2/img/cards/web/BW11/BW11_EN_53.png
I quickly gave up on that idea. xD Then I decided to use Photoshop to 'cheat' and get the image down to a reasonable amount of colours (I settled on 11). Once I'd pixelised the Mewtwo TCG using only 11 colours, I had my template! It was off to the shops to try and find thread that matched the colours as close as possible. (This was also really hard xD). I also bought some Aida cloth which is basically some sturdy material with holes in it to cross-stitch through.
And off I went, starting from the outside. It was really hard to get started as the cloth I was working on was totally blank, unlike the practice piece I had used. xD
Some progress shots:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/WP_20150322_001.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/WP_20150829_004.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/Mobile%20Uploads/WP_20150913_005.jpg
(you can see a bit of my template at the top of the last photo)
As you can see, using lots of colours gets very messy! Especially when there are only very small patches of a colour somewhere. Then you gotta cut and tie off your thread every time you wanna move around! If I did this again, I would make sure I cleaned up the template before using it, to get rid of any unnecessary pixels and make it way easier to physically stitch. xD
The finished product...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/WP_20150920_001.jpg
Like sprites, it looks better from further away. In person, from across the room, it looks just like a drawing!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/pokemontrainersarah/WP_20150920_001.jpg
Overall this was a crazy idea for a beginner to attempt XD But I had a lot of fun and I was really pleased with the finished product! It took SO MANY HOURS though. Cross-stitching is really really slow and it killed my hands after a few hours so I did this slowly over like 3 months haha. The best thing is it's really easy for beginners, so if you feel like doing some craft, I would recommend it! But maybe start with either something smaller or less complex. xD This one is 8 x 6 inches iirc, which is apparently 6912 stitches based on the cloth I was using. Needless to say I haven't really had the urge to do more since I finished this one. But I might one day. xD
Tagging Speed-X cos she asked me about this a long time ago xD

I feel like it's easier to draw cute things if you aren't super good at anatomy but scary things require more knowledge of anatomy. So that then you can mess it up and make it creepy or something...I don't know. xD But anyway, I do like it! :3

I just wanted to pop in and say--I love this!! I played MTG with my brother when Innistrad was standard, and I exclusively played an Innistrad werewolf deck. Huntmaster was one of my most mana-expensive cards, but it was so good and it absolutely wrecked face. So I did an infinitely happy squeal when I saw how adorable this was. AND THE AXE. AND THE CLOTHES SHREDS! I love this. I love even your rough shading style, too; your use of pleasant cyan highlights and more violet shadows really gives a wonderful dynamism even to the simplest of sketches. I'd love to see this finished! Keep it up!!
