Avatars: Which Way Should they Face?

So, I've been drawing up a new avatar, when I suddenly realized that for the first time, the character is facing to the left, away from the post. This got me thinking: What is the better option? Facing your own post, like a boss, our looking out into the abyss, for better drive-by posting? Discuss.

Haha I've never thought about this before! For me, it just depends on the artwork. Which way it's facing doesn't bother me. I probably mostly pick right-facing ones though.

Right? It doesn't even seem like an issue until you think about these things for too long. I guess I got to thinking about it because, as a general rule, characters in a banner should face inward…

Never really gave this much thought, but it actually makes a bit more sense if they're facing the post. But ah, I suppose any way is fine.

I've never actually thought about it. Given that I change avatars quite often I don't really know but I've noticed a trend that most of my avatars are facing left. I don't know why but it's a common theme. It's possible that's just because the way the sprites and pictures that were made for me were done that way but most of the time mine are facing away from the post.

But honestly, I've just never really thought about it. I don't even know which way mine is facing as I write this.

Personally I'd say either towards the post or straight out at the reader. I voted towards the post though.

I picked that it doesn't matter. XD I would have said toward the post, but DMM's is facing away from his and it looks great. Post Traumatic Sarah's avatar is centred, so yeah. Either way. xP Interesting thought though.

My avatar is facing away from the post so I'm kinda biased towards that option.

To be fair, I use these (http://i.imgur.com/bhpNPbg.jpg) and these (http://i.imgur.com/xUYfdJp.jpg) sometimes :P My other avatars seem to be too cool to look at the posts regardless.

Whenever I make a new avatar I usually just take an image and resize it. Very rarely did I ever make my own. I prefer the ones that stare right at the reader (center), but I'm not picky. I could go with whatever really works or fits best really.
