A young girl stood before a massive fog of glitchy blocks. The fog swirled about her, before the blocks contracted and reassembled themselves into a perfect duplicate of the girl. The duplicate pounced on the girl, crushing her in a hug. The girl screamed when she saw the duplicate’s glowing black eyes, but she simply could not get away.
“Wh-wh-who are you!?” the girl yelled, terrified. “Where am I?”
The duplicate grinned, before letting go of her and backing up. It pixelized again, becoming the blocky fog briefly, before transforming into a strange creature. It had golden batlike wings, pricked catlike ears, glowing black eyes, and a tail that split into an impossible number of writhing tendrils. Two spike balls floated in front of its’ body, like a child’s poor attempt at drawing hands. Its’ body was covered in dark golden fur that somehow glowed black.
The creature grinned, revealing that its’ mouth was full of teeth. But no two of these teeth were alike. Some of them were small like human’s teeth, other resembled the teeth of horses, pigs, lions, sharks… Even some dinosaur teeth, anglergfish teeth, and part of a mandible from some massive insect was inside the gaping maw. There seemed to be too many teeth to fit in its’ mouth, and yet they somehow did.
“Hi!” the creature squeaked in a disturbingly childlike voice. “I’m Six-Exclamation Point-Seven-Open Bracket-Hashtag! But you can call me Lord Emperor Glitch! You’re my brand new friend! And this is Darksphere!”
The girl looked around confusedly. “D-d-darksphere…?”
The creature nodded. “Yep! Darksphere is a place where you can do absolutely anything! Or, to be specific, Darksphere is a place where I can make you do absolutely anything I want! I’m the guardian of Darksphere, I make sure it doesn’t die! And the only way to do that is bring living souls here from Earth! They can’t ever leave, so I make sure they have fun with me here! It would be an awful waste if they didn’t…”
“I can’t go home to Mommy and Daddy?” the little girl gasped.
Glitch shook his head. “No. You can’t. But! Darksphere is much better! Check this out!”
The world jolted. The little girl felt sick. She looked down at her body, and screamed.
Her skin was covered in golden fur! An uncontrollable tail was writhing about, her legs were bent the wrong way and looked like paws, her hands were transformed into some weird sort of glitchy-block thingy, and she could feel weird batlike wings sprouting from her back!
The girl collapsed to the ground. “Change me back! Send me home!” she pleaded.
“Nope!” Glitch giggled. “But it’s so much more fun here than it was in your boring old life! I’ve seen earth, how do you humans not die of boredom? I mean, look at how much more fun it is here! Lemme show you just what I can do~!”
Glitch did a little flip in the air, and the glow intensified. The blocky fog appeared around him, and shot out towards the girl. She screamed again, and desperately wanted to run away, but was just so tired she simply couldn’t.
When the fog surrounded her, she was suddenly in a bright meadow. Flowers were glowing all throughout the beautiful greenery, the clearest blue sky she had ever seen was reflected in ponds and streams, and beautiful snowy white unicorns and pegasi grazed near the girl.
The girl was stunned by the sudden change in scenery. She wanted to take a few seconds to try and figure out what happened, but instead she found her legs moving without her consent. She strode over to one of the pegasi, got on it like an expert horse rider, and squeezed her legs around the winged equestrian.
The pegasus let out a loud neigh, before galloping towards one of the ponds. The girl wanted to scream again but something was keeping her mouth open in an ecstatic, oversized smile.
Right before the pegasus splashed into the lake, it jumped and soared towards the perfect clearless sky. The little girl felt like she had left her stomach back on the green grass, and with no place to go the contents of it were rising up through her throat to her mouth.
Again, with no control of her body, she stood up on the pegasus while it was flying.
The little girl was terrified that her body wouldn’t obey its’ commands. She wanted to curl up in a small ball, squeeze her eyes shut, and wake up back in her own home. Instead, though, her legs bent, and then she jumped off the pegasus. Her screams of terror changed in her throat to screams of delight as she spread out her arms and whooped with joy. Her smile was somehow spread even more widely across her face if that was possible.
Right before she hit the ground, however, a dark portal appeared in the earth, and she slipped right through it. When she looked about, she realized two things. One, she was back with Glitch. Two, she had control of her body again.
These two things caused the girl to burst into tears, both of sorrow and relief.
“So, what’s your name?” Glitch asked cheerily, like nothing had happened at all.
“R-rachel…” the girl muttered. “U-um… Where was that j-just now?”
Glitch grinned again. “That? That was right here! I was controlling you and Darksphere with my awesome guardian powers! If you stay right here with me, you can live like that every day for the rest of your life! You little human girls love unicorns and rainbows and princesses, I can make you be a princess in your own happily ever after! Forever!”
“I want to go home!” Rachel wailed.
Glitch frowned. “Hm. You don’t like princesses? Then what do you like? I can make it happen.”
“I like my house and my family and my friends…”
Glitch shook his head. “Nope. Sorry. No can do. It’s impossible.”
“Please? Please, Glitch?” the girl asked. “Please, just let me go home, I’m scared and alone, and this place is so creepy and I want to go home!”
Glitch frowned. “Weeeeeeell… Yeah. There’s one way to go home. Here, take this!” The creature conjured a flower in its’ spikeball hand, and offered it to the girl. “Smell it and you’ll go home!”
Rachel took it hesitantly from Glitch. She looked doubtfully at the ruler of Darksphere, decided that the flower was really her only hope, and sniffed it.
Instantly Rachel opened her eyes, to find that she was back home, safely tucked into her bed, surrounded by all her stuffed animals and her parents.
“Rachel! We were so worried about you, you just weren’t waking up!” her mother said, smiling happily.
“We tried everything but just couldn’t help, sweetie! We’re so sorry!” her father added, flustered.
“Mommy! Daddy! I just had the worst nightmare!” Rachel told them, crying tears of joy.
The door slammed open, and in came Rachel’s older brother and best friend.
“Hey, Rachel, you’re up!” Rachel’s brother said, looking honestly surprised for once. Rachel’s best friend enveloped her in a hug. “Raaaaaaaaaachel!” she said, sobbing. “I was so so so worried when you didn’t show up at school! The entire class was worried, we all made presents for you when you came back!”
Rachel felt… happy. She was so happy to be back, so happy that her friends and family were there with her. They were happy two, their glowing black eyes glistening with tears, and their mouths stretched as far as possible, with identical extra toothy grins.
Rachel screamed.
And then she woke up again, clutching the flower tightly in her hand. She slowly got up, and burst in tears again when she once more saw Glitch, his black eyes glowing, his grin extra toothy.
“Take me back home! I don’t want some illusion!” Rachel shrieked at him, trying to punch him. Glitch vanished, and then reappeared on her head. She tried to tear him off of her head, but her hands went right through him, and then right through her own head. She recoiled in horror, and Glitch laughed at her reaction.
“You can’t go home! I took you to Darksphere, and now you stay in Darksphere forever! You can’t ever get home, ever!” Glitch said in a singsong voice, hugging Rachel again. His fur felt like sandpaper, but it also felt good somehow. Rachel began to feel dizzy, her muscles relaxing but her grip on the flower somehow tightening. Her eyelids drooped, her mouth fell open, and her breathing slowed.
“What… What’s going…” Rachel asked, tiredly.
“That flower I gave you is a Heartbloom,” Glitch explained to Rachel. “Before I only controlled your body… Now I can control you completely! You’re like my little puppet, isn’t that cool?”
“No!” Rachel yelled, frightened. A jolt of adrenaline surged through her body as she tried to throw away the Heartbloom, but her hand just would let go of it! Then the fragrance hit her nose again, and she sighed, beginning to go limp once more, except her for hand, which kept the Heartbloom firmly shoved against her nostrils. It was such a heavenly, addictive scent. Like the smell of heaven.
“I don’t like that reaction,” Glitch pouted. “Let’s try it again! Cool, right?”
Ecstacy flooded Rachel’s limbs. “Super cool!” she giggled, petting Glitch. He giggled. “Rachel, do you want to return to your home? It’s so boring there, and I’d be so lonely!”
“No, of course not Glitch!” she said, laughing at the merest thought of ever leaving. “It’s just so fun here and I don’t want you to ever be lonely ever again!”
And so Glitch gradually gained more and more control of Rachel as time went on. She laughed, and eagerly played with him, and loved him, and grew up with him. Her memories of her old life faded, until there came a time when Rachel was hard pressed to even remember her former world. As she continued to stay in Darksphere, she began to resemble Glitch more and more until she was exactly like him physically, mentally, and with his exact powers.
And then the being formerly known as Rachel was absorbed into Glitch and Darksphere forever.
And it was time to bring another child into Darksphere once more…
“Wh-wh-who are you!?” the girl yelled, terrified. “Where am I?”
The duplicate grinned, before letting go of her and backing up. It pixelized again, becoming the blocky fog briefly, before transforming into a strange creature.
