Name: Joshua (Josh) Summers

Appearance: Joshua is average height, about 5'7", slightly tan, but not very much. He wears track pants and a T-Shirt with varying logos or symbols on it. During colder months he wears a sky blue hoodie over that day's T-Shirt. He wears running shoes and white socks (normal ones not ankle socks). His Dirty blonde hair is not too long, it is generally tapered in the back and goes down to just over his eyebrows in the case of his bangs. He always keeps his hair tucked behind his ears. His eyes are blue, and he wears two pieces of jewelery. A simply silver ring and a small clay totem pole necklace.

Personality: Josh does not like to talk. He likes to think quietly. While he does love being active and energetic, he also works best on his own. He has a unique sense of humor that stems mainly from puns and logical, but unwanted, comments. Josh has a fear of fighting, he has good bodily coordination, but has a fear pain and of hurting others. Consequently he is very trusting and puts his friends only after his family. Josh is a thinker who sees life logically, he outs his family and friends first, and is afraid to participate in fights, unless its a battle of the wits.

Background: Josh is a normal middle class boy, he has an older brother and a younger sister. His Father runs a nearby restaurant and his mother works as co-owner there as well. His older brother is currently in his first year at college, while his younger sister is in the 7th grade. Josh also has a pet cat named Neko (yeah I know real original).

Power 1: Josh can turn himself, what he is wearing and anything he is holding also turns invisible. NOTE: if he is holding onto a wall, poll, or something similar, it will not go invisible, he has to be completely holding it.

Power 2: Josh can talk to in-animate objects. The walls know your secrets and he can hear every one of them.

Shruikan, I can't speak for everyone, but those I'm familiar with in our RP community are all pretty nice people, and it's nice to see new people interested in giving RP a shot. Morzone and Winter, you are both exactly right. It is indeed a basic RP for beginners, and the other threads here are also accepting even if you have never RPed before.

However, as much as I can reserve you, Shurikan, I don't think there will be more members participating in this RP with a lack of responses coming up to 2 months now. So, I do not know how much the interest in this thread will last. Additionally, I am sure that school or university is starting for most people, and that will further slow activities.

Rayzen, you shouldn't let lack of members worry you--sometimes you can actually get a better RP from fewer members, and as long as they're dedicated, slow posting speed isn't always a bad thing either. As long as your RPers are dedicated, it shouldn't be much to worry about.

That's true, dedication does keep RPGs alive. I have seen some that last for years, and that's because there are a few core members who post slowly but regularly.

I've been a a part of a handful of those myself, and find I actually enjoy those kinds of RPs more than those with a ton of people that die out quickly.

Anyway, depending on how things go, I'm kind of tempted to join in now, so I'll be around keeping an eye on this.

I wouldn't worry about not having many people to be honest. Not because an RP can be just as good with few members as with many ones, but because of this particular RP's setting and story, it's very easy to add new people in. In real life, clubs gain and lose members over time, so there's nothing really stopping a person an RP club as they would a real one.

As I have planned so far, it will take place somewhere on Earth in a pre-defined location. Players can create their own locations as appropriate, but there is at least 1 common place for everyone to get the story going.

However, if you are asking about the location of the abandoned railway station, I will leave that for the members to decide. Technically, it doesn't really matter where it is because it can be almost any typical building anywhere though.

Name: Alex Waters

Appearance: At 21 years of age, Alex stands roughly 6'1" from the ground, and has a fair to tan skin tone. He has brown eyes, brown hair that almost reaches his shoulders while his frame and muscle build is way more on the side of being agile and swift than muscular and burly. He's also slightly underweight, but not to an extreme degree.

For clothing, Alex wears usual rugged street clothing, consisting of dark blue jeans, a frayed leather belt, a gray hoodie over a t-shirt, and worn sneakers. Because Alex never had much money, his clothing isn't in the best of shape. Very often, he has to go through a clothing donation bin to get something he can wear. And at this point, he has essentially no hope of ever being able to afford college, not that he would know what to study anyway.

In terms of traits, Alex may not be a rocket scientist, but he is wise and is very artistic and creative. However, in a tough economy, art and creativity doesn't always pay, and he's learned that the hard way. He also has difficult times holding jobs due to the fact he's often in danger and on the run. But in a fight, Alex relies on wit and speed, and it has kept him alive in plenty of dangerous situations.

Personality: Quiet, creative, and contemplative, Alex never has much money, but he is resourceful and never likes to think of people and things in terms of how much they own or how much they cost. He's the kind of person that would rather be poor and happy than rich but sad, and because of that, he tries to find some use for everything. Meanwhile, he has a strong sense of justice and trying to do the right thing. He hates needless cruelty, senseless waste, and given his history, he has a distinct opposition to gang violence.

A lot of his personality and powers link to his parents and his role with the family florist business. With him constantly being pursued by a rich, powerful, and violent gang called SIGNAL that originally attacked him because of what his brother did, he has had to take some pretty extreme measures on how to keep himself alive, and hopefully one day put an end to SIGNAL. That, in turn, may eventually turn toward putting down other gangs as well. As a result, he's had to focus and develop the powers he has in ways that most others wouldn't expect or foresee from a guy like him.

With the arrival of the social club, Alex has seen it as an opportunity to open himself up to others and get help with his situation. Despite his desire to think he can do it alone, he knows he can't and he needs help. While his powers are unusual and definitely not the kind of thing most would expect from someone who wants to become a fighter, he has found ways to make it effective that his enemies don't often suspect. Since his powers have been pretty much set and it would be seriously counterproductive to try and specialize into something else, he works with them the best way he can.

Background: At a young age, Alex's parents wanted him to take over the family business of a local florist shop called Sun Creations, especially when his older brother, James, showed absolutely no interest in assigning his powers to be flower-related. While James was disobedient and eventually his powers turned toward manipulating machines and warping metal, Alex simply decided learning how to create and control plants, specializing in flowers in particular, was something that was alright with him, since it did give him the chance to be artistic and creative with it and wasn't the kind of power that could destroy something or accidently kill someone like using fire, ice, or electricity. He decided to be respectful to his parents' desires and trained himself on how to specialize in growing the family florist business.

With such a deeply rooted specialization and having started at a really young age, Alex became a master at growing flowers, learning how to grow them in seconds, control them, and even communicate with them, which was a rare thing to accomplish that not even his parents had. As soon as he was twelve years of age, he got more involved with the Sun Creations florist shop and created his own special flower arrangements for weddings, funerals, Valentine's day, and any occasion the shop would get orders for. Customers were definitely very appreciative of his talent, and the business did quite well.

Alex kept experimenting, being able to create flowers that were definitely far too big to sell for any kind of arrangement, but he enjoyed the idea of it and often liked to visit bare fields and turning it all into field bright with colorful flora like it was an empty canvas. He felt there was a sense of accomplishment in taking something that was once ugly, and making it something that someone could admire.

However, things went sour as soon as SIGNAL got involved, and it was mainly because of his brother James. James, having gotten involved with gang violence by joining a gang called SWILL, had killed an enemy gang Lieutenant from SIGNAL by stabbing him to death while using his metal manipulation powers. As a result, to get back at James, SIGNAL went after his family. Alex, now only fifteen years old, barely escaped death when his parents offered him to come along for a car ride. Alex said he simply was feeling tired, and only a minute later, he was horrified when his parents were killed when the car exploded as soon as his father turned the key to the ignition. While James didn't care very much, Alex was distraught and depressed, and it only worsened when his aunt had taken over the family business. In time, SIGNAL struck again, and killed his aunt and set the Sun Creations building burning to the ground, destroying everything.

With little money to his name, Alex simply set off on his own path, swearing he'd try to find a way to turn things around and get payback. Things got ugly when SIGNAL started going after him as well, and Alex got in deep when in order to defend himself, he had used his powers to have one gang member get wrapped in vicious rosebushes, which was just as painful and bloody as getting entangled in moving razor wire. He had figured out to weaponize the flowers he could create by doing that, and there was another instance when an overly hulking SIGNAL gang Lieutenant charged after him, but was quickly entangled in flowering vines that planted their roots into his body and sapped away all his energy. In all their attempts to kill him, SIGNAL found it humiliating to have six of their gang members, including a Lieutenant, get killed because of flowers, something that was always thought to be harmless. SIGNAL made it personal and Alex became an even bigger target than his brother James.

With no money to survive on his own and his life always in danger, Alex tried taking things one step further to keep himself alive. With his powers, he learned how to turn himself into a sentient and humanoid flower, which he found helped amplify his own flower-creating and controlling powers and allowed him to survive on just rainwater and not require shelter. It was useful considering he didn't have much money for food, clothing, and definitely not enough for shelter. He tried various forms before he found one that seemed to work, which surrounded his waist with an array of flower petals while a giant, multi-layered lily flower grew out from his back and a second on out from over his head, like an umbrella. It allowed him to be covered from behind in case someone tried to ambush him and stab him in the back or slit his throat, which wasn't easy now with the flowers covering him from behind. The lily flower bands around his waist, wrists, and forehead are just aesthetic, however, but they add to the deception that he can be underestimated.

As time went on and he usually didn't have enough money to rub two pennies together, he often had to rely on his flower transformation form to give his body sustenance by soaking in rainwater and temporarily turn his feet and toes into roots and take in enough nutrients from the soil. His powers allow him to change to and from this flower form at will, but unless he can find food or money by some other means, he needs to rely on it to keep himself alive.

With the creation of the social club at the abandoned post office, Alex felt there was safety in numbers, and he's been hoping to get help when it comes to taking down SIGNAL. He understands he would need to return the favor by helping others with their own situations, and he's more than ready to do that.

Powers:

Alex's first power is his ability to conjure up flowers in just about any needed quantity, form, and size. He can make a wall of thorns with dense rosebushes, or wrap an enemy in vines or entangling flora to stop them. He's one of the very few that has found a way to weaponize flowers, and because of that, it has become a kind of signature that has completely enraged SIGNAL, turning them into a laughing stock from other gangs that haven't seen the power for themselves. He has also been experimenting using plant toxins as a means to fight back against SIGNAL and anyone else that is trying to kill him or his friends. Given SIGNAL killed his mother, father, aunt, and burned his family business to the ground, Alex sees it as a fantastic and iconic means of revenge.

His second power relates to him being able to transform himself take on a humanoid flower form, which allows him to survive without eating, allows him to heal faster, and it bolsters the plant-manipulation powers he has. It does, however, destroy his clothing in the process. If he creates vast fields of flowers and transforms himself, it also makes him extremely difficult to find for his enemies. It also gives him access to a whole range of attacks and abilities that are very similar to grass-type Pokémon attacks. It does, however, make him susceptible to fire and frost, and he's often wary about using this when in the presence of someone who has those kinds of abilities. In those kinds of cases, he would most likely stay human and be as resourceful as possible, but he's not against using whatever weapons he can find or has on hand to make up for not being able to utilize his full potential.

No, I am not using my normal character, but I will appear as a cameo NPC. Also, I am not portraying myself as the club's leader. The head of the club will be revealed in the 2nd GM post (1st post is introduction and arrival of your character), but he will just be another NPC that can be described by other players.

Just to give a quick history: Last year, I tried this similar RP as a GM in another forum while playing my own character at sign-up. Problem is, my character masked the inactivity of the other players and the thread soon died relatively quickly. Hence, I am trying to not make that same mistake.

I agree with Winter, that doesn't sound like it was your fault. You were active, they weren't, plain and simple. If deep inside you want to make a character, go for it. And if you don't really want to RP the club's leader, hey, we could still have an NPC do it.

Only thing I'd recommend is tend to shy away from RP situations where every RPer clings together. Keep interactions going, sure, but split them up if it seems like lots of people are clinging together. Get multiple things going on at the same time. I've seen and had RPs nosedive because too many people were in one place and everyone was waiting on those one or two people that just stopped posting.

Also, any problems if we make additional NPC members of the club with their own special powers, just to make the club seem a little bigger?

Yes, you can make additional NPC members with their own powers without needing to use the sign-up sheet. In fact, at any point in the game, you can introduce other non-member NPCs into the storyline as appropriate. It makes my GM job easier as I don't need to think of additional plot twists :P

Sounds great, there's a lot of stuff I could do with that. And hey, I say play your own character anyway. But yeah, even quickie posts are fine, they don't need to be the lengthy stuff we usually do for other RPs.

Plus I figured Alex's background conflicts with SIGNAL is a decent plot device that could be used if we need a set of adversaries to go after and a side-plot to pursue. It could be used together with the original investigation of the anomalies in the main storyline.

Rayzen, you shouldn't worry about your "inactivity"--we'll be waiting on you to post as the GM anyway, and it's not like we wouldn't understand you having a life. I'm in college, and I'm sure almost everyone else here has school/a job to deal with among other things. That aside, while I know Neo and I can go on forever with posts, it's not like we expect that from everyone. It's your RP, you should be able to have fun with it.

Name: Snow Huojin
Appearance: Despite her name, Snow looks far more like a Rose Red than a Snow White. At 20, she stands at about 5'9" and sports a very fit body, covered by caramel toned skin. She sports cherry red hair, which falls to her mid back, and is often twined into numerous braids which are then pulled back into a sort of ponytail, compliments of Snow’s younger sister, and her pale gray eyes commonly radiate warmth. A series of swirling tribal marking tattoos travel up her arms and across her shoulders, where they eventually crawl down her back and chest. The tattoos at her chest eventually join together to curl around an oddly geometric looking heart that hovers over where her own should be, and despite her ability, the tattoos don't look like they have ever been marred. Due to her ability, most of Snow's casual clothing tends to be peppered with rips and holes, however she seems determined to continue wearing most of her clothing until the stuff falls apart. As such, Snow is commonly seen wearing hole-riddled jeans with simple crop tops or camisoles, and occasionally various jackets to cover her tattoos when necessary along with well worn sneakers. Occasionally she may be spotted in suits or even dresses based on whatever job she is working.
Personality: Though at first glance most would expect Snow to pull you into the nearest dark alley and mug you, she's actually a very kind girl. Having practically raised her younger siblings herself, she's taken on a motherly exterior that tends to be determined to take care of those she has taken a liking to...however she is also every bit a loner. Everything she has done in her life has been for those she loves, and she often finds herself ignoring anything or anyone not related to taking care of Solana and Stein. While she has agreed to make an effort to try and actually form friendships, she may come on too strong with the mothering instinct, or she may not come on strong enough. That being said, she is the kind of girl who would put herself between someone she didn't know and danger or help a complete stranger and not think twice, and then shrug it off like it was nothing. Snow is known for her zero-tolerance attitude towards bullies and those who would hurt others...and for both threatening and leaving those who trigger that attitude in far worse shape than they met her in. She feels it is much more important to worry about others than herself, and almost always has, thanks to her parents, however she otherwise views her parents with mixed feelings. Actually, she'd prefer you not talk about them, nor does she willingly talk about them herself.
Background: Born to a mother who had forever loved all variations of the tale of Snow White, which landed her her odd name, Snow grew up practically raising both her younger siblings, mostly due to their parents’ jobs as bodyguards. When their parents were around, they filled life with fun games and stories, and often encouraged their children to become strong--not only for themselves, but for them to use that strength to protect others. While their mother excelled at using shielding techniques, their father’s power lay in his ability to bend the earth around him to his will. Not wanting to disappoint them, Snow insisted from a young age that she wanted to learn various forms of martial arts, and her parents were happy to start her education with basic karate, and her little sister Solana and brother Stein quickly followed in their big sister’s footsteps, and for a time, everything was good. While the children missed their parents a great deal during their periods of absence, they were never left without their godfather--a kind family friend of their parents’ who enjoyed games and story time almost as much as the children themselves did--besides, their parents would always come home, not matter how long they had been away.

Then their parents were killed while on the job, and their world came crashing down. Snow was thirteen at the time, Solana had been ten, and Stein only six, and yet when Snow came downstairs to find their godfather pale and shaking one morning, she knew that this time her parents weren’t coming home from this trip. This realization was met with anger that was uncharacteristic of the girl, and almost inexplicable...and when their godfather tried to calm her down, lead to Snow almost stabbing the man with a miniature spear of her own blood that formed from the tip of her index finger, an incident that surprised them both. While it had always been rare for Snow to bruise or bleed for very long after being cut, no one had expected the girl to manifest abilities as a hemomancer.

These abilities only grew along with their owner. Snow spent much of her day attending school and looking after Solana and Stein, as well as practicing various martial arts on her own. After the kids went to bed, she would allow herself to push the development of her abilities. Upon graduation from school, Snow had discovered she had superior healing ability as well as the ability to control not only her blood, but the blood of others to a small extent as well, and used these abilities to her advantage, taking on various jobs that involved guarding--from being a bouncer to a small time bodyguard herself, however she refused to take on a job that would not allow her to go home to Solana and Stein at the end of the day...after all, they had already lost on set of parents, and Snow wouldn’t let them lose another. This however, led to her becoming extremely narrow-minded, and as her younger siblings continued to grow, they slowly understood that their sister was sacrificing everything for them, and that just wouldn’t do. Having heard about an up and coming social club from a high school friend, Solana and Stein pushed Snow to give it a shot--at the very least they felt Snow needed to make some friends that weren’t related to her by blood.
Power: Most of Snow’s power lies in her ability as a hemomancer--that is, she can control blood. This power is strongest where her own blood is concerned, allowing her to minimize damage in places by creating an effect similar to hardening her blood upon impact to her body, however the amount of area this can be applied to and for how long is limited, as well as weaponize her own blood, often in the form of spikes, spears, or whips. Where the blood of others is concerned, her power mostly extends to limiting blood flow in a limited area in other’s bodies (meaning she can put arms and legs to sleep and the like), and were she able to concentrate hard and long enough on a single subject, it’s possible she might be capable of creating clots in very...bad places. She’s also known to be very good at stopping blood flow for minor to medium damage injuries.

One of the problems that results from Snow’s power, however, is that fact that she does not need to be cut for her to weaponize her blood. It can break through her skin on its own at her wish, however this could prove problematic the more she uses her power...luckily for Snow, she is an incredibly fast healer. While more damage takes a longer time to repair, Snow does heal faster than the average person--much faster. Yeah, I was still interested in this. I think it would have been better to start with a smaller group than to try and hold things off for a larger one, but that's just me.

Sorry about this (work irl reasons). I am expecting higher than usual workload in university, even during summer, so it is safe to say that I will not be running this RP thread in the near future, at least not through 2016.

For now, I will edit the first post to prevent new members from thinking that this is still a thing, and henceforth, I am releasing all of you from waiting :)
