Member Spotlight is an article series that we will be bringing to the PxR website. PxR has a lot of talented members and basically, we want to show you off!

It will consist of a short interview and a showcase of what that member has been up to on the forum, from starting a simple discussion thread in the Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire forum to spriting or even writing a great fan fiction or showing off some other talent.

All members picked for the Spotlight will sometimes be people you never thought existed, or some who'd love to steal the spotlight, nonetheless, there will be times whereby you can nominate a Member you'd like to know about!

FAQs

Q. How do I join or express my interest to join?!

A. Most of the Members will be picked/chosen at random; but should there be a time of desperation, I'll personally pick one from those listed under Interested in Member Spotlight.

Q. What time should I be available?!

A. Timezones may make it hard for us; but it's never impossible. Once I've picked the candidate, we'll do the necessary arrangement.

Q. OMG I'M CHOSEN! WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

A. Hey, congrats! But take it easy. You can start by going through some of the questions you may be asked in the first post, and prepare how you would like to deliver when we meet up for the actual conversation (text based NOT voice based) to make it fun and engaging at the same time. You're going to be stuck with me for at least an hour or so, as such, I'd like you to be as casual and at the same time have fun!

Q. Do I have to give huge replies spanning over 15 lines?!

A. Nope, just be comfortable and share what you want us to know about you. You're the spotlight, so you're in control how you'd like to present yourself. Should some questions be too sensitive or such, you may choose to pass the question or just answer very shortly. But no one/two word answers. Most of the times the questions I ask will coupled with "why" and so forth to prevent this from happening :P

Q. I can't write/draw/sprite, why choose me?!

A. Well I believe there's more to what meets the eye. Everyone will be given priority regardless and although we all have weaknesses, we also have our own strengths! So, believe in yourself!

Q. OMG WILL I BE FAMOUS?!

A. Technically yes, our conversations will be posted here, and on our site, coupled with your introductions and profile linking, there will be quite a number of people or even staff who may be interested to get to know you better. This is the best opportunity to display your talents!

Voice interviews do already exist, Xanthe is the host..but I'm not sure if she's continuing with it atm. But if she isn't, due to her busy schedule I could probably take over it. Welcome all to Week #1 of PxR's Member Spotlight! Tonight, we've got a very special guest on the show, and it's none other than Winter!

Well folks, I've had the same questions like you all for quite some while now. So I went down and had a little chat with our resident Moderator. And her spotlight is now complete!

Trainer17: Welcome to the show Winter-san! I shall be your host for tonight, aka Sam aka the Anime Freak aka Idea Enthusiast; But enough about me, let's start with a short intro of you, shall we?

Winter: Ah, so hi there, folks! I'm Winter, one of PXR's Trade and RP Mods. I'm currently a college student, as well as a gamer, artist, writer, reader...pretty much, if it's creative, odds are in favor of me being a fan.

Trainer17: Oooh, that's quite hefty...Is it possible to juggle them all with your studies in the way? What are you majoring in?

Winter: Lol, I am notoriously bad at time management. I'm a game design major, so my homework gives me some room to work with some of my interests, but really, I tend to shift between whatever interests me most at a given time. New book out? Excuse me while I lose sleep reading it. Drawing? Let me doodle in my notebook during lecture. Inspiration strikes? Let's write. More than one story at a time. That I will never finish. Games? Every spare moment I have access to them.

Trainer17: Game Design Major?! Well, that suits just nicely with most of your interests xD Most of us or just myself, didn't exactly got what we wanted lol but it’s wonderful to know you're somehow managing it out, even if you had to lose some sleep…pfft who needs sleep?!

Winter: Lol. I technically need sleep, but the excitement of "BOOKS" typically trumps that. RPs will also do that sometimes. Hello Lunar Chronicles until 4am.

Trainer17: We’re going to take a short break from reality now. Let’s move on to the big bang theory. How did you get into this majestic franchise known as 'Poketu Monstah’? How did all begin for you?

Winter: Oh my god. You did not just say that. I actually got into things a bit late. I loved the show as a kid (and apparently I went through a stage where I talked like Pikachu and nothing else? But what sticks with me are memories of Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Fire Red.

Trainer17: I think most of us went through that Pikachu Syndrome…Oh, and adding on, both of those games, are quite different from each other in ... a lot of aspects. Were they both your first games?

Winter: It's funny, because now Pikachu drives me nuts. Particularly Ash's.

Trainer17: There are more Pokémon out there that drives me nuts than that critter, if you ask me.

Trainer17: Were they both your first games?

Winter: Yup! My sister and I got the Gamecube and our Gameboy Advances in the same year, for Christmas. Technically XD came first, but Fire Red is the one I beat first because of...certain circumstances. Lol, I just got sick of all the Pikachu only merch. Fire Red also likely sticks out more because I can still tell people how I named my first two Pokemon.

Trainer17: Two Pokemon..? Interesting...What were they, if I may ask?

Winter: So my first starter was a female Squirtle. XD It was funny because I had all these awesome names in mind...for a male. And so when I saw the female symbol, I was just like "...Oh crap." Luckily, my younger siblings were watching TV at the time. Lo and behold, what was on? Avatar the Last Airbender. They were still watching TV when I caught my Pikachu. Somehow, my little brother managed to convince mom that Naruto was okay...which is weird because he might have been...gosh, 5-6 at the time? So then I ended up with Sasuke the Pikachu. I had to nickname everything. I still have Katara the Blastoise. She resides in my copy of X.

Trainer17: Do you have a lot of friends or folks in real life who play Pokémon as well?

Winter: Oh gosh. So I mentioned I go to school for game design, right? Most of the people I go to school with are competitive addicts. I don't hate them. Just don't get it myself. But yeah, ORAS launch week...the student lounge was filled with 3DSes and lots of them were asking for FCs. It was great!

Trainer17: Well, I mostly get jerks or jocks as friends :(

Winter: I live in the Greater Sea of Nerds up here. XD

Trainer17: How did you come across the forums? Was it a form of self-discovery or were you brought/kidnapped by people here?

Winter: I was pulled over to PXR by Grassy and Sabi, I think--I've been around the community since PE2K, and when it started dying, I was told there was another forum in the works, and jumped on.

Trainer17: You, my friend, have made a great choice 8D So, tell me of your fondest memories of PxR if any; or if you wish, you could share memories from PE2K, the life before PxR.

Winter: It wasn't much of a choice, honestly. PE2K was my home from, like, middle school on. I grew up with the community, and when my family was forced to move house, I had to go, too. PE2K is easy--"You owe me a new cardigan." Which, I suppose warrants a little explaining, eh? Lol, so I have pretty much been an RP addict since I discovered RP. Most of my time and activity on PE2K was spent in the RP section (which actually taught me how to write better than most of my fellow classmates). There was one particular RP, though, Falcior. It was a Pokemon School RP, and it got crazy. This culminated into one glorious class scene in which the lead character accidentally caused a fantastic miniature explosion and fire, which my character ended up putting out...with her school cardigan. The whole RP was great, but that one set of interactions always comes to mind. I have a lot of memories in RP--kinda sad PE2K is no longer accessible, I just loved being able to read old RPs. Lots of hilarity ensued back then. And lots of progress too. I used to be so bad, and now I'm on par with my childhood idols. Heck, I'm good friends with some of those idols.

Trainer17: You have lots of passion for RPing don’t you?

Winter: I started RPing on PE2K when I was 13-14. XD

Trainer17: and I joined the forums when I was 17…late bloomer, I was //yoda

Winter: Haha, just saying--I literally learned how to write through PE2K's RP section. By watching people like Sabi and Metal Sonic and Grassy Aggron and Tombi. And it’s possible I didn't. Not sure how old you are, but I'll be 21 this -BEEP-.

Trainer17: Your PxR username; how did you go about choosing the name “winter”? Was it a direct choice, or is there any particular reasoning behind it?

Winter: Winter: That is a somewhat long and veeeeeery geeky story.

Winter: What it all comes down to is Bleach, and Ikkaku Madarame's zanpaku-to name. For a while, Shonen Jump had this thing about translating all the sword names at least once. The translation attached to his was "Winter Cherry". It stuck, Hugely. So I ended up going by that on PE2K, and over the years it ended up being shortened to just Winter. There was also another username before that--Riika-chan. I went from Riika-chan to Winter_Cherry to Winter.

Trainer17: Ah, I see. Well, moving on now, you've been around the forums for quite some years. Now that you're in PxR, who do you consider your closest friend or rival, or both?

Winter: Closest friend is definitely Sabi (aka Saraibre Ryu). I actually joked to her when I was given RP mod status that the higher ups had no idea what they'd done. We're pretty much partners in crime that feed off of each other's creativity at this point.

Trainer17: But before we begin, start us off with a short intro about yourself!

Arrow-Jolteon: Well, I'm a 23-year-old who is about to graduate from college. I grew up in Mexico, but as soon as I graduated High School I moved to the US to study college, and I've been living in an apartment ever since.

Trainer17: That's a sweet intro! Do you intend to move back to Mexico after you graduate, Arrow?

Arrow-Jolteon: Probably the latter, tbh; part of the reason I had to come to the US was because there weren't many career options geared towards my interests back in Mexico, so it will probably be easier for me to find work here.

Trainer17: I see, well, that's how life can be. You grow up in one place, you live out in another.

Trainer17: What are you majoring in? ;D

Arrow-Jolteon: There's no such thing as a "shitty" major. A job is a job, man. Unless you're majoring on something like murder, in which case yeah, that is a pretty terrible major.

Trainer17: xD very nicely put! I like that attitude of yours! Its no doubt you clinched the Mod of the Month!

Arrow-Jolteon: XD To be fair I only got that because I somehow managed to keep the Daily Pokémon Opinions updated on schedule.

Trainer17: It's not easy to keep on going, even when things might seem dire. You have my applause for that, because you kept on going. I should socialize more around the forums. I barely know any other mods besides a handful few.

Trainer17: How did you end up with us 8D As in, how did you end up at PxR?

Arrow-Jolteon: I was invited by the lovely Suicune's Fire.

Trainer17: OH MY EX WIFE!

Arrow-Jolteon: She told me about the forum and I got curious, so I decided to join. Strangely, my joining of PXR also roughly coincides with my leaving my DA account (nothing to do with any users or anything, I just got kinda bored of the site).

Trainer17: Alright! Let's talk about your first username. What was it? Or how did you come about making it? Were many arrows fired that day till you took one to the knee? ...this joke is getting dryer by the day.

Arrow-Jolteon: well, the username you see me with right now is the very same I've always had since joining the forum. I wanted to have a username in honor of my favorite Pokémon, and the Arrow part came about because at the time I was considering taking up archery classes. It ended up not happening due to time constraints, sadly, but the name still stuck.

Trainer17: Share with us some of your first time experience around the forums. You can link me your very first forum post if you'd like[emoji14]
Arrow-Jolteon: geez, dunno if I can do that, since it'd probably take me three eternities to find it XD but well, I of course started as a regular member. I didn't actually do much besides lurking about and occasionally giving my two cents about certain topics. When I joined the forum, Pokémon was on the verge of Generation 6, so there was a lot of activity regarding the news, with speculation all over the place, talk about the starters, the new Pokémon, the then new Fairy-types and Mega Evolutions, etcetera. They were fun times.

Trainer17: indeed they were, Arrow, indeed. =3

Arrow-Jolteon: yep

Trainer17: and it's bound to happen again, with Pokemon Sun and Moon on the rise...ZING!

Arrow-Jolteon: XD

Arrow-Jolteon: I wonder how Ho-oh and Lugia feel about that; they were the OG Sun/Moon Legendary Duo.

Trainer17: Wait...are you a Ho oh or Lugia fan...? Depending on the answer you might either be my best friend or :f

Arrow-Jolteon: I'm actually a bigger fan of Lugia, but I still do like Ho-oh enough to feel bad for the neglect that it gets. I'm kinda weird like that: if a Pokémon is part of a duo or group and there's an imbalance of representation I can't help but feel that there's some unfairness going on. Like Charizard getting two Megas when the other Kanto Starters only got one. And on top of that Gamefreak only gives promos to the X mega. Like, what's the point of giving Charizard two Mega Evolutions if they're going to act like one of them doesn't exist? I just feel like it's unfair.

Trainer17: You just gave me the best answer I needed to hear 8D You shall be my awesome friend

Trainer17: OH, and a generic question as always. What was your first Pokemon Game?

Arrow-Jolteon: That's a doozy, actually. I have been a Pokémon fan since the franchise started (I was introduced to it by the anime), but I never got a chance to play the games themselves until Gen 3, when a friend of mine let me borrow his Emerald cartridge(main). The first official game (non main) I owned was Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

Trainer17: What was your choice of Starter, then? :'3

Arrow-Jolteon: My Starter of choice was Treecko, and I think it had a pretty awful movepool by the end of the game, but it still somehow worked for me. Since the first official game I owned was Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, in a way my official starter is Eevee (no points for guessing what I evolved that Eevee into XD). But if spinoffs don't count, then my starter would be Turtwig from Platinum.

Trainer17: Coincidentally, Grass types, from the looks of it[emoji14]Do you favor Grass Type Starters more than the other two?

Arrow-Jolteon: yep, turns out I like their designs more. Which is odd because Fire-type starters are usually more popular and Water-type starters tend to have more utility.

Arrow-Jolteon: and to be fair, the very first Fire starter was Charizard, who is one of the most popular Pokémon of all time, so all the other Fire starters kinda carry the dragon's legacy.

Trainer17: Until blaziken came, then started the fire/fighting starter legacy.

Arrow-Jolteon: oh yeah, I think everyone got sick of that one XD by the time Emboar came around, I think everyone groaned. it got to the point that when Fennekin was revealed the only hope people had for it was "PLEASE DON'T BE FIRE/FIGHTING!" It was both hilarious and tragic.

Arrow-Jolteon: Nope. Out of all my childhood interests, Pokémon is one of the very, very few that actually stayed all the way to adulthood. So I don't see myself ever quitting on it. It's just too fun.

Caitlin: Oh god I feel old. xD It all started WAY back in 2003 when PE2K was on Pro Boards and then I was the 3rd person to join PE2K when it moved to a new forum and then towards the end of PE2K I was lurking around and found a link to PxR in someone sig and poof here I am.
Trainer17: Dayum I feel young!
Caitlin: LMAO. I think Kenny is older.
Trainer17: Kenny, Harry, and who else...I wouldn't want to know their ages even if it killed me.
Caitlin: Not necessarily in age I just mean been around longer. Hey we all gotta start somewhere.

Trainer17: Exactly, now talking about starting somewhere…how did you come to choose your own username? Well, I have no qualms about your username; being fine and dandy as it is, but that usertitle of yours… you might have some explaining to do, Ms Canadian Destroyer. I mean having a Senior Moderator going on giving impressions she's a destroyer isn't a good thing for newbies.
Caitlin: LOL! I was actually thinking about changing that. Well as for my name I joined Bulbagardens and someone had already taken Caitlin which is my real name so I decided to go with something a bit different and changed it. As for Ms. Canadian Destroyer I'm a wrestling fan and my favorite wrestler is Petey Williams and his nickname is the Canadian Destroyer which is also his finishing move.
Trainer17: so I'm assuming you were into pro wrestling before your venture into the forums? Or what were you doing before joining the forums either in real life or other parts of the internet?

Caitlin: Actually those who were on PE2K back in say 2003-2005 might remember a member named Syrus and it was him who got me into wrestling, plus Pokémon and High School.
Trainer17: Expand on this Pokémon and this high school that you speak of.
Caitlin: Hell you're lucky if I remember what I did yesterday...lol.
Trainer17: I am quite lucky considering how people still remember as that one guy who promises things to be done and then disappear outright after.
Caitlin: HAHA!

Trainer17: Anyways, moving on… what do you do now in real life; any goals/dreams?
Caitlin: Work...lol. My group of friends do Anime Conventions a few times a year. Well we all have one thing we're good at. I'm the one that paints while another one of us does wigs and sews. Usually we girls will make out costumes while the boys are more likely to buy them. We've done Yu-Gi-Oh, Avatar/Korra and even Pokémon.

Trainer17: Wow, that's really nice. I mean it must be fun working together with friends eh? The only thing us guys mostly do is get drunk on booze and wreck ***** upon the streets and the alleys! Well, let's fast forward the time here a little. Where do you see yourself in about let’s say...5 years’ time?
Caitlin: Other than 5 years older...lol...I don't know I'm not really one of those who sits there and plans everything out because I know things change.

Caitlin: Watch Pokemon and hanging out on PxR along with hanging out with friends.
Trainer17: Straight forward. Well, then how did you get into Pokemon? In lateral terms, when did it all start?
Caitlin: In real life, I went with Mom to church while she did choir practice, and the choir director’s son was there with his Game Boy and had Pokemon Red with him and we took turns playing it.
Trainer17: And ultimately decided to get your own console and game I assume?
Caitlin: First Pokemon game was Pokemon Blue and starter was Charmander.
Trainer17: Mine was Pokemon Red and starter was Squirtle. Did u c what I did thar?

Trainer17: Ok, so back on topic; what's your most favourite place of the forum? It can be PXR or Pe2k; like where do you usually hang out or lurk about? And do you start with the intention of destroying the section from the beginning or let it prosper before you deliver your final judgement?
Caitlin: LMAO. I don't really have just one place I'm usually all over the place. Oooooo kitty.

Biotic Flareon: Well, I'm your everyday flareon who loves a good laugh and a weekly spongebath. Pokemon is, like, the fuel to my fiery heart. Among other things. I love video games, certain music, and chocolate. Oh yeah, and I'm still getting used to this "key board" thing. I rode kangaroos growing up and never learned how to "computer" so forgive any speling errers. And I hate artificial cherry flavour. That's important.

Biotic Flareon: Well Mass Effect is my favourite game franchise besides Pokemon. I enjoy a little Sonic here and there; mostly the old-school Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.

Biotic Flareon: As for what brought me into the world of gaming, well, it's always appealed to me! I suppose it started with Pokemon, really. Biotic Flareon: I was excited. I would sit down by the router with my old, crappy laptop and plug it in with the cable and surf the net for cool pokemon adventures! I found this one RPG-like thing where mods would post in response to members and their journeys... But I didn't know what a mod was. xD I thought anyone could respond, so I randomly posted on this poor person's journey and probably totally ruined it with a kangaskhan using Rain Dance, and then someone was like "Ummm you're not a mod you can't post here." That was a site called Dragonair's Den. XD Where I was Flareon_Girl or something. So I got embarrassed and left and went to another pokemon forum, which happened to be Pe2k, which I think I found because of the sprites. Maybe. It was November of 2007 when I was ...13? Or something? Wait, was I? Pfft, maths details. Anyway, I was an age. I was like "I don't want anyone to recognise me so I'll choose a totally different username" and underscores were in, so I chose Graceful_Suicune. c:

But then one day...in the late 90s, little Xanthe was looking at my old brother's Pokemon Handbook and I spotted it... Flareon. Which I called 'flare-on.' There's really nothing else to it. XD Just thought they were cute and fluffy...

Biotic Flareon: One day I'll probably move to Canada to find work there b/c I think Canada is awesome. And a few of my favourite shows (Orphan Black <333, Lost Girl) are Canadian. But, I mean, I'll have to go to the US at some point if I want to get voice acting work, probs. There are very limited jobs for acting in general in Australia, like games. I was going to go into games and then realised it wasn't what I was passionate about. HOWEVER, I would still love to voice act characters in games. c: And do mo-cap. That'd be awesome. Biotic Flareon: XD Let's see... I honestly can't really recall who I met first, but considering we got married in, like, 2008, probably you. XD Aside from you, there were a few... I remember k_pop from the early days (though she's inactive on PXR), Grassy, Lunar Latias... Actually, one of the... OH WAIT I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING!!!!!!! So I actually totally remembered that the reason I joined Pe2k was NOT for the sprites. It was for this pokemon story called Selena Espeon, and it was about a pokemorph called Selena who was half espeon. XD And this author wrote, like, one paragraph and called it a chapter, but for some reason I LOVED reading it! So I was friends with the author...whose name I can't recall...and this guy who had a raichu morph (she opened up guest stars so I had Zeta the flareon morph XD) called, like... Jer with some numbers at the end. xD Um, Tenacity was also an old friend, who went by the name of The_Politoed_Hunter or something. He got banned. XD I don't know why. But then he came back and was under a different username AND DIDN'T TELL ME FOR SOME REASON so I found out that he was my old friend because Corey told me. I've known Corey for years as well. But yeah, can't really remember who the first/oldest was... I'll go with you. ;3

Trainer17: Now, let us talk about some of your memorable moments in PxR or Pe2k. Have you got a few in your mind?
Biotic Flareon: Well, there was one during last year's WAR when Caite kept getting frustrated with her sprites. XD Then she posted about it in the Humour thread and described her feelings about it in what was mostly Zuko GIFs. It was hilarious. Aside from that, I LOVED the Team Aqua & Magma take-over. xD That was a hoot and a half. Also in 2013, Dredd posted this thread about Corey being a Nintendobot because of his access to leaks that nobody else had gotten to for Pokemon X and Y. It was really funny. Then MichaelXD thought he was being serious.

Biotic Flareon: I'd have to say Gen III. Mostly because of the period in my life during which it came out, and the impact that stage of my life had on me. I do also love gen II and Gen IV, because they have similar nostalgic feels. Gen I does too, but I was quite young when that alone was around.

Biotic Flareon: I've never really related to the whole "rival" thing. But if I had to choose... I don't know, maybe Speed or Max. XD I have no idea. I don't know how to gauge a rival. Do we have to be on the same level? And what sort of level is it?! I guess I sort of interpret it as "friends who compete against one another." But Max and Speed and I don't really do that... So I have no clue. I mean...maybe Gemma? >:3 But I'd feel mean. XD She's too sweet to be a rival. Speed and Max on the other hand...XDD I kid, I kid.

Biotic Flareon: I'd bring rope, alcohol (spirits) and a sleeping bag. The alcohol is for either disinfecting wounds or drowning my sorrows. I'd bring Noblejanobii because I feel like she's crafty, Rival Max because he seems to have survival skills (which he proved in an interview with me back on PE2K xD), and... For the last one... Pokemon Trainer Sarah to keep everyone happy because she's so cheery and has magical powers like that.

[4:45:09 PM] Biotic Flareon: English apple pie recipes go back to the time of Chaucer. The 1381 recipe (see illustration at right) lists the ingredients as good apples, good spices, figs, raisins and pears. The cofyn of the recipe is a casing of pastry. Saffron is used for colouring the pie filling. Recipes for Dutch apple pie go back to the Middle Ages. An early Dutch cookbook from 1514, Een notabel boecxken van cokeryen ("A notable little cookery book"),[8] documents a recipe for Appeltaerten (compare modern Dutch Appeltaarten "apple pies"). This early recipe was a simple one, requiring only a standard pie crust, slices of especially soft apples with their skin and seeds removed, and den selven deeghe daer die taerte af ghemaect es (roughly meaning "the same dough that the pie [crust] is made of") to fill in the top. It was then baked in a typical Dutch oven. Once baked, the top crust (except at the edges) would be cut out from the middle, after which the apple slices were potentially put through a sieve before the pie was stirred with a wooden spoon. At this point the book recommends adding several spices to the pie, namely: cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, mace and powdered sugar. Finally, after mixing the ingredients into the pie with cream, it is once again put into the oven to dry.
