Has anyone read any light novels recently? I read Kagerou Daze volume 3. Anyway, a light novel is usually a quick anime novel. They are usually less than 200 pages, and can be read quickly. Some series that were light novels first include Durarara!!, Sword Art Online and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

While I personally have never been given the chance to read a light novel, one of my friends owns a bunch and loves them. He's currently binging Durarara!! light novels for the third time since he got like four for Christmas (he owns more he just got four more).

Are light novels still manga or are they actually written novels? I don't think I've read any...

They're written novels. Like Pala said, each volume is about the length of a novella; if you combined volumes you could probably get at least one full length novel. Depends on how many volumes are available, of course.

Anyway, the last light novel I read was No.6, and that was a few years ago. I don't think I ever got past the second volume, though I'm considering trying to read it again from the start. I'm not a huge reader as is (unless you count manga), and a lot of good light novels have animanga adaptations (granted, those adaptations are not always good...) so I usually opt to watch/read their animanga counterpart.

I have read the light novels for Fullmetal Alchemist, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, No Game No Life, The Devil is a Part-Timer, and Durarara!!, but I might be one of the few people who really don't care for light novels...

I understand they're for fast reading, but when you use simple sentence structure that looks like it was written by a fifth grader... it's very irritating.
