(RP) Pokemon: The Song of the Elements

Let's begin this adventure!

The city of Argenta is one of the world's busiest, with bustling mining and trading industries, as well as the many tourists that come to explore the mountains yearly. But the city's icon is its tallest peak, Mt. Luna

You arrive in the bustling city after receiving an urgent message from Brock, the city's resident minstrel. While normally happy and awe inspiring to see in his magnificent purple, red, and gold costume, the tone of his message had a kind of urgency that seems very out of character for him.

As you approach the town square, you can:

--visit the tavern (?) (rumors and possible information)
--visit the city temple (!/?) (the cleric Joy provides healing and blessings on people, things, and Pokemon alike)
--visit the marketplace ($)
--visit the adventurer's guild (!) (Brock said he would be waiting for you here)

"Vaugn, I need your assistance, come to the Adventurer's Guild and I'll explain in detail..."

"It's too cryptic of a message, even from the Minstrel of Argenta. Just what the heck is going on?" Vaugn sighed as he walked towards the Adventurers' Guild.

Many thoughts raced across his mind, but there was only one he could focus on at the moment. Meeting up with the City's Minstrel and find out what's really bothering him. The day was cloudy, with a little bit of sunshine here and there. The city itself was huge, and bustling with people as it has always been, and it didn't look like trouble was spewing anytime soon. But Vaugn had to be on guard.

"I need some weapons...but I don't want to attract any form of attention before I meet Brock. Hmm...the Tavern sounds like a good place to start. I might get some info on what's going on from the citizen's mouth. I could get some wine as well, am already running low on it at the moment! This city is quite the hub and their wine are no exception!" Vaugn smirked a bit.

"...How many adventurers did Brock gather besides me? Crap! I better be not the last one to turn up! I better get things done fast and head to the Guild!", Vaugn exclaimed, as he rushed towards the tavern with haste...

Trainer17: The Shining Diamond was one of the busiest taverns in the region, filled with travelers, adventurers and merchants of every stripe swapping stories from the road or rumors from across the world as they enjoyed a hot meal and the many beers, wines, and ales on offer.

At first, the rumors don't seem too promising as to a lead as to why the minstrel of Argenta would become so frightened-- a cleric has spent all his wealth on magical weapons and armor; the labyrinth known as "The Wing" is haunted by the ghosts of dragons; and the barkeep is especially happy about a rumor that an elven caravan is expected to arrive, carrying the finest ales and mulled wines ever produced.

Just then, an elven warrior passes on an intriguing rumor: "The trees have said that the wizard Lysandre seeks the Celestial Harp of Rainbows to raise an undead army."

Endentho headed towards the guild, wanting to know what was going on as soon as possible and not fond of visiting taverns for information. He silently wondered why the minstrel would want to speak with him, but knew answers would come with time.

(Sorry for the short post, I'll try to get better about that.)

AWA1997: The adventurer's guild of Argenta was buzzing with activity as adventurers of all stripes swapped war stories or perused the job board for a suitable quest.

But among the many warriors, mages, rangers, clerics and rogues was a brown haired boy with tan skin wearing a magnificent purple, red, and gold costume. Just the purple alone would clue an adventurer that this particular minstrel was a high minstrel, and very skilled with music, storytelling, and the ancient art of spellsong. Many of the adventurers present were wondering why the famed Brock of Argenta was not filled with his usual joie de vivre and playing an uneasy melody on his harp.

Just then, he looked up at the brown haired rogue towering over him. "Oh, hello!" he began, his trademark smile returning to his face. "Are you maybe an adventurer that answered my plea for help?"

Isaac Nash
Location: Argenta

Isaac knowing how he may not have the chance to stop back by. He must get to the guild as soon as possible, but he decides to check out the marketplace instead. Even something small to help with the upcoming journey will of help in the future. Who knows what this meeting with Brock will truly hold for us?

As you stroll through the marketplace, you notice the general store (general items), the smithy (weapons and armor), and the alchemist (helpful potions and charms) do not look busy.

It didn't take too long before Vaugn appeared before a rustic looking tavern. Albeit the looks; this place was crowded with drunkards and people from various races mingling together. A place which knows no discrimination and which houses the best wines and ale to boot!

"Eh...so this the Shining Diamond huh? Well I better not waste anymore time. Time to take down some information!" Vaugn grunted as he entered the tavern.

Opening the doors let Vaugn into a whole new world. Rumors, tips, and and any adventurers info; this was the place for all! Vaugn only had one interest. WINE. Something that would aid him in battles perhaps? There were three bits of info that was passed around at this point of time.

An elven caravan carrying ales and wines

But of course Vaugn would go after the last option. He rushed over to the barkeep to obtain more info on this ale caravan when he overheard a new rumor..

"...Lysandre? Celestial Harp of what?.."Vaugn stared blankly for a while...

"Oh damn! I've not enough time! Oi barkeep! Tell me about this elven ale seller and pronto!", Vaugn exclaimed, "...and tell a little bit about this labyrinth I'm hearing about, does it house any riches or treasures?!"... Vaugn let out an evil grin...

"All I know is the caravan from the elven city is due to arrive in two weeks." the barkeep stammered.

"The caravan is from my home city of Lantalos--and yes, the spirits brewed there are as good as they are claimed to be." the elven warrior smiled, slightly bemused in the brash young fighter.

She went on to tell him "The labyrinth known as 'The Wing' is only one of eight elemental labyrinths--collecting the jewels within will power up the legendary Celestial Harp of Rainbows to equal even the Great Lord Arceus. The reason the resident minstrel here is shaken is because he knows the wizard Lysandre wishes to use the harp for an evil purpose--raising an undead army. It was Meloetta that commanded him to seek out other adventurers for the perilous journey--because no great hero ever fought alone."

"TWO WEEKS?! DAMMIT!", Vaugn yelled as he grabbed his head.

"I don't have that much time! To the hell with the ale! I might come across your homeland during my travels...Lantelos was it? So I'll leave that to fate for now..." Vaugn sighed heavily. He was hopeful he could get a bit of a sample at least. But good things don't come that fast and doesn't last long either.

"...woah woah woah! Hold on my lady. 8 frigging stones?! Power of Arceus...good almighty, is this why Brock is so shaken! That fool! How can us adventurers suffice for this undertaking?! We're going after a freaking wizard. Is he mad? Though...my skills and power would go tenfold and I'd technically be a pro by then..." Vaugn thought for a while.

"That's settled then. We head for the labyrinth first. This saving the world ideology is the least concern for the likes of me. Treasures and riches. I follow them to the end of the world. You wait world. VAUGN IS IN THE HOUSE!..." Vaugn smirked as he made his way towards his next ideal location; the marketplace...


God knows what or who he will encounter there...

Vaugn spaced out for a while catching his breath. Good thing he brought a few gold coins with him. There were plenty of options for him, now that his option for booze is gone, he'd be saving up on quite the lot.

"Well, I obviously need a few of these"...

"...and I'll take these as well. I reckon my fists will do enough talking, but I knock out a tree with this baby!"

Whenever it came to equipment, Vaugn seems all wise and thoughtful, but only because he can save up a lot more cash on his booze. But with that plan in foil, he made a quick trip to the general store next, followed up by an alchemist so that he can be properly equipped. Getting the stones won't be that easy, and venturing into labyrinths is going to be a very tough challenge.

"Well smithy, here's 80 G for my items, and thanks!..."

"Thank you for that. If I head there now, I should be able to get back soon enough that nobody waits long for me." Endentho said. "See you in a few minutes, my good sir." he added before heading out and sprinting rather quickly towards the temple, not wanting to hold anything up, but wanting to get what he needed as soon as he could. No use in wasting time, right?

The general store is not as busy as one would think, save for the odd housewife buying food or apprentice on an errand for their master.

AWA1997: The temple is a marvel to behold, with its gold trim on its marble columns and crystal spires. Inside, many of the people of Argenta are saying prayers, or asking the beautiful pink haired cleric to bless or heal themselves, their friends and family, a possession, or their Pokemon. A Chansey is off in another room, feeding a hot meal to the poor families of the city.

The cleric's spells seem to run into an oddly hypnotic jumble of words:

"Blessing breeze, blow in energy! Curaga!"

"Heavenly wind, carry this weary Pokemon to the fountain of power! Purge!"

The ornate stained glass windows portray many scenes from tales Brock has told many times--Jeran and the legendary shining Ponyta Epona, Tanooki and Arceus, Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie casting a spell on a letter, Moltres, Meloetta flying around a tree, and many others.

Endentho stood away from everyone as he looked around, waiting for a good time to approach the cleric. When the time came, he walked up towards her. "Hello, cleric Joy." he said polietly. "I was informed that you had something important for those that would be traveling with the minstrel Brock, correct?"

AWA1997: "Yes, I do." Joy smiles as she gave Endentho four silver sapphire rings set in a ring of diamonds. "These are Angel Rings--should you ever fall in battle, they will protect your souls and allow you to return to life.

She gave him a little bow. "May Arceus' favor be on your quest."

I let out a sigh as I debate on which to check out. "I don't have too long so let's just check out the alchemist shop. I really don't want to keep Brock waiting."

Isaac enters the Alchemist

Chakramaster: The alchemist, a young auburn haired lady, is organizing potions on the shelves as you arrive. After tending to the customer before you, she greets you. "Welcome! How may I assist you?"

The shopkeeper tried oh so hard not to laugh at the pained look on Vaugn's face as he dashed from the shop with his items. He had seen fighters visit the shop before, but he had never seen a fighter in such a hurry.

"Going on a long journey, are you?" The alchemist smiled as she gave Isaac his items. "Talk to as many people as you can, and check the taverns, inns, and adventurer's guilds--you never know where a lead for a quest may turn up."

Reaching the final shop frantically, Vaugn almost crashed into someone who was making their own purchases. Seemed like an adventurer. But he didn't seem to bothered by it at the moment.

However with his penny close to a shave, he tried to reduce the cost on his spenditure here. He wasn't too fond of alchemy, but anything that closely resembles to wines and ales, he's crazy for it.

The alchemist tried oh-so-hard not to laugh at Vaugn's desperate face. "Sorry, no discounts--the good news is, you just barely had enough for all of this."

AWA1997: Brock was now playing a happier song when Endentho returned. "I see you got what I asked Joy to give you all. One of those is for you, and the other three are for the other adventurers that responded to my call."

Endentho nodded. "I figured as much." he said. "Well, I guess I just wait for now."

AWA1997: "I suppose I could weave a tale while we are waiting..." Brock muses, playing a gentle chord.

This gets the crowd of adventurers' attention, and before long, many of them are gathered around the table he is sitting at. "Tell of the Mistress of Magic!" a mage requests.

Brock nods, then says the common beginning to many fairy tales with a quest and tales of adventure. "Once upon a time something happened. If it hadn't happened, it wouldn't be told."

Joy waits patiently for an answer from the fighter before her. Even if he gave her a half coherent confession of love, she knew how to handle those, be they from drunken tavern patrons or Brock

Trainer17: "I remember giving a rogue going that way four Angel Rings to protect him and the other three." Joy replied. "I don't suppose you are one of them?" she asked, a note of fear in her voice at the look on the fighter's face.

"Yes milady. I'm Vaugn D Saul, summoned by none other than Brock himself. Can I have that ring? I'm dead if I turn up any late for the group hugs later at the Guild..."

Endentho listened intently to the tale Brock started. He had heard rumors and the tales told secondhand, but had never truly been present for one, so he was eager to hear one directly from the source.

Trainer17: "If you'll meet back at the guild, the rogue has one of the rings for you." Joy replied. "Of course, if you need any healing or blessings, you can always come to a temple."

AWA1997: "There was once a man in the mountains of Argenta who had a son, named Maren, who was a brave, kind young man, and a help and comfort to his father." Brock begins over a gentle melody. One night, a prince from a land to the east and eleven of his followers came to the house, and asked for lodging for the night. Maren's father agreed, and gave them a fine welcome. After dinner the prince of the eastlands and his retinue performed many wonderful magic tricks which astonished Maren's father. He told his guests he wished his son Maren could perform such wonders."

He then proceeds to roleplay the conversation between Maren's father and the prince, using a distinct voice for each character:

"How would you like it, if I took your son Maren with me and taught him magic like mine?"

"I would like it very much. Bu I am very fond of Maren, and I wouldn't want him away for too long."

"Would a year and a day be too long?"

"It would not. If you'll promise to teach Maren your magical arts and have him home again a year and a day from now, you'll be doing me a great favor, and I'll willingly let you have him."

"Very well. I will take Maren with me, and teach him so much of magic tricks that when I bring him back to you, I promise that he'll astonish you."

The crowd applauds Brock's vocal dexterity. "The father was as well pleased at this as Maren was. The next morning, Maren bade the father farewell, and set off with the prince of the eastlands and his eleven followers." he continues as himself.

The father, though he was lonesome without his Maren, tried his best to be happy. Still, he couldn't help counting the days. Every day felt like a week to him, and every week felt like a month, until the year and a day were up.

Huffing and puffing, barely breathless, he could hear a lullaby coming from within.

"BROCK ARE YOU HERE?!" Vaugn called out in excitement.

Shawn hurried down the road and into town. He'd been held up by a pack of bandits on the way and was running late. Luckily he'd escaped unscathed and with all of his possessions. He hurried toward the Guild, not wanting to waste any more time. He just hoped that Brock, who he'd always admired being a minstrel himself, wouldn't mind his coming late.

Morzone: Brock looked over and smiled when he saw a young minstrel hurry into the room. "Greetings and a thousand welcomes, fellow minstrel. Are you one of the four that received my message?"

He noticed the young minstrel's simple harp and smiled as he remembered learning on a harp like it in the minstrel's hall, many years ago.

"All right, everyone's here." Brock began as the other adventurers in the room departed to another room, leaving Brock and his four guests alone.

Brock next sang a spell to check for any sort of physical and magical spies in the room. Seilei colfin ar kadram tro...

When the spell showed him nothing more than the four adventurers present, he began. "A few weeks ago, a wizard named Lysandre came to me, asking for a legendary instrument known as the Celestial Harp of Rainbows. He claimed he wanted to study the instrument's powers, and so I agreed to his request.

On the way to the cave where this harp supposedly lies, Meloetta appeared to me, and told me the horrifying truth about my quest--the wizard only wanted the harp to raise up an undead army and destroy the world. To prevent this from happening, I would have to imbue the Celestial Harp of Rainbows with eight shards of the jewels of light Arceus used to create the world--pieces of the same jewels that power up the legendary Eight Color Blade.

The jewel shards are hidden in eight well guarded elemental labyrinths. Once we have them all, we can use the powered up harp to defeat Lysandre before he can carry out his evil plot.

But as we all know, no great hero ever fought alone--and so I have called you here in hopes you could aid me on this long and perilous quest."

I also heard about the nearest labyrinth, which might be as well our first, known as The Wing. Any information about this you can tell us, Brock?"

"As you already know, I'm in for this quest. Let's kick some butt!" Vaugn grinned.

Trainer17: "Actually, The Wing is not the first one on your quest." Brock replied "Our first destination is The Leaf, hidden somewhere in Glasa Forest. Like the Eight Color Blade in legend, it only appears to someone worthy of entering it. Sage Oak, of Vitiva, should know if it has appeared, and where it is.

As for the wizard himself--he believes me to still be searching for the harp, so he will bide his time in his castle, unaware that we are coming to battle him. He does, however, have plenty of minions in the world to do his evil bidding, so we should still be on our guard."

"So Brock, will that be our first destination then? Is there anything else you'd like us to know? Oh, and yes. Evil minions will be everywhere, but we 5 enough for them all? I wish we could have some minions of our own!"

Trainer17: "The Leaf does not lie on the path that leads to the Eight Color Blade--and many times, heroes do not venture into the forest to find it--it is given or granted to them." Brock smiled. "We will first venture to Vitiva to the south--there I can learn just how well you four can work as a team in battle. Once we learn from Sage Oak if The Leaf has appeared, I will enlist two of my closest friends and allies to lead us there. One of them will teach you how to link hearts with Pokemon."

As a Vulpix hopped on his lap, Brock went on "Our journey will take us through the forests of the elves, through the mountain realm of the dwarves, the shining realm of the fey, and beneath the sea, where the sea angels dwell."

Shawn listened to Brocks story and their plans with wrapped attention. He wasn't going to say it out loud, but the idea of possessing such a powerful harp enthralled him. If he had such a harp, he'd be the greatest and most powerful minstrel in the history of all the world. Still, he knew that their aims were better and less selfish. He strummed his harp quietly.

"What an adventure this will be, for sure. Perhaps there will be songs written about it in the future. What sort of things should we get to prepare for this forest labyrinth?

I found a place to lean back so I could listen closely to Brock's story. As I lay back and let out a sign and just think...why is it I'm always late to things like this. Guess it's better to listen than to get distracted by thoughts like this huh. Hearing Brock's story of a man named Lysandre....he sounds like a powerful wizard. No one can stand up to him huh? I overhear Brock telling this other adventurer here, about our first destination "The Leaf" he called it. There was something else though. Brock then explained how he believes that this man Lysandre thinks he is still just searching for the harp. I know I shouldn't ever question Brock. He's a man of many facts, but I just need to get this straight.

"Wait....so you don't think he knows about you delaying your search to find adventurers? He may not know, but he will soon right? So what will we do then? If this man is someone to fear then how will adventurers like us ever be able to stand up to him? Even the 5 of us together....would that be enough as we are now? Look...I know we are going to do everything we can to help, but this is quite the quest. We may not all question our safety, but whatsay the safety of our friends, family, or anyone else we may know. If this man finds out say by tomorrow about this...what may happen to them or to us or even the people of this region? Why would Lysandre want to 'raise the dead?'" I asked

Chakramaster: "Lysandre may have powerful magic, true, and it is entirely possible he will learn what we plan to do sooner or later." Brock explained. "In case it is sooner, Sage Oak has studied his means of attack, and will teach us what to do should he or his minions attempt to ambush or capture us." Brock assured the worried mage. "But even one of the great sages has their limits--the tales we have all told and sung for many years will prove key to defeating Lysandre, who wishes to use his undead army to create a world filled with sorrow and despair."

He grinned. "But all of you will be growing stronger yourselves, so that when the day of battle against Lysandre comes, all the world will rally behind us. For now, our first destination is Vitiva, where we will learn more about our foes, and meet our two escorts that will lead us to The Leaf."

Endentho nodded slightly. "In that case, I feel we should head out as soon as possible and travel just as quickly." he said. I look toward Endentho as he tosses me the ring Brock was talking about. He asked me if I heard the explanation Brock made about it.

"Just the tail end of it. Something about not actually being able to die. I'm assuming this means it will protect our spirit am I correct? I can just feel the magics flowing through this ring. It's almost....etheral" I say as I slip on the ring tossed to me by Endentho.

"Well now that we have all been informed. It seems like everyone is pretty much ready to go now. Brock, is there anything else you can think of that would be of great importance before we start making our journey to our first location? Anything at all that you can think of" I asked

"Not at all, save this: While the basic spellsongs are named by element--Song of Earth. Song of Fire, Song of Wind, Song of Water, and so on--they can actually have billions upon trillions of different effects, depending on the user's skill and power level." Brock explained. "Other spellsongs are for specific purposes, and so may have one or two effects.

With that, he sings Karuto, iichiida shou... surrounding him and the four of you in a tornado of light, teleporting you to Vitiva.

When you arrive in Vitiva seconds later, he savors the surprised looks on your faces. "This is why the Song of Wind can teleport people and objects, as well as other things having to do with the wind."

As you regain your bearings, Vitiva is actually larger than its appearance on maps suggests. Brock's spell took you to the town square.

The team got teleported to Vitiva thanks to Brock's teleport song. It was quicker then blinking an eye, and here Vaugn thought he'd have through travel through forests or lakes or at least he could have earned Gold somehow. But it can't be helped for now.

Trainer17: The training grounds is a large building, where warriors of every stripe can hone their skills or challenge others to battle.

There are several different wings for different weapon types--besides you, the only visible occupant is a blonde haired ranger on the archery range, taking some practice shots as a Fennekin looks on.

Nearby the training grounds, you can hear a flute playing a mystical melody (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkEWOTmnlko). While the performer is half decent, some airy and slightly flat notes are clues that he--or she-- is still learning the instrument, but knows this song fairly well.

Upon reaching the tall building portrayed as the training grounds, Vaugn looked around and saw a lot of skilled fighters who specialise in many weapons gathering around. Not sure if there was going to be a tournament around, he was going to face quite the number of opponents.

He could hear a faint flute playing in a distance away from him, thinking it might be Brock or someone who he's not concerned with at the moment, Vaugn entered the building looking for a bit more info on the place. Where could he sign up for starters? And they give gold or rewards for the winners? He needed much more info...

Trainer17: You see a noticeboard detailing the rules of the training grounds--while most of the ground rules are fairly familiar (fight fair, agree on rules with your opponents, training weapons and protective gear must be used, and so on). A map is underneath the rule list, showing you that the fighter's room is just across the hall from the entrance.

AWA1997: At this hour of the morning, the small marketplace is not that busy--the smithy is repairing a shield for someone, the alchemist is busy mixing a potion for someone, and the food shop is being restocked with fresh produce from the nearby farms.

There were some applause heard, but what got Vaugn's attention was a comment from a Ranger (?)

He motions for you to follow him down a wooded path by the training grounds, where a black haired mage in a magnificent red, white, and gold costume is leaning against a tree, practicing on a simple side blown flute with a flame design painted on it and a red tassel on one end, with two flame points resembling Pikachu ears near the embouchure hole. A female Pikachu sits nearby on a rock, listening to her master practice.

"He was very fond of bird hunting, and one day while out with his bow he followed a beautiful shining Pidgeot, something he had never seen before." Brock explained, playing a few sweeping chords on his harp to mimic the Pidgeot flying. "He did not catch it, but brought home a feather that fell from its wing. As the feather was beautiful, he showed it to everyone in the castle-his new mother included."

[And then?] Eira asked as she invited Serena to listen to the story.

"After dinner that evening, his mother proposed that he play a game of chess with her. He asked for what they would play for; and she answered that whoever won would put a charge on the other--a kind of magical spell that would force the target to do a specific task, like it or not. If one fulfilled the charge, the spell on them would be broken." Brock replied.

Shawn perused through the shelves, picking out supplies he thought were useful. He already had a little food in his pack, so he didn't think he'd need a packed lunch. The rest of the supplies looked rather important, some of it extremely so.

Once Shawn packed these into his bag, he headed back out into the street, He wanted to hit the training arena before going to meet Sage Oak or Brock again, so he headed over there at a quick pace.

Shawn entered the training grounds and weaved his way between other fighters, some looking worn out from a hard time training, others looked fresh, most likely about to start like he was. After some searching, he eventually found a vacant dummy. Shawn set down his bag and pulled out a small book and quill where he kept his spells written. Gabbing his harp, he flipped through the book, choosing a spell song to play.

You can hear Brock weaving a tale as you search for a spellsong to practice. It gives you the motivation to practice as hard as you can for the journey ahead.

Chakramaster: As you make your way inside, you can hear Brock speaking--apparently charge spells are involved in the story, as you can hear him say the incantation for a charge spell: "Obey the ancient pact of the ages and fulfill your duty..."

Of course he is not actually charging anyone--it is only for show.

"Owen agreed. When they played, he won the game." Brock continued. "His stepmother was very much vexed at this, and demanded to play another game. Owen agreed, but this time his stepmother won.

"Well," he asks in character as Owen, "what is your charge?"

"Obey the ancient pact of the ages and fulfill your duty…the feather you brought home today was from the wing of the Golden Pidgeot of Sinoch, which is owned by a great giant." he explains in character as the stepmother. "All the world covets that Pokemon, but though hundreds of heroes have searched for it, not one has ever returned. I therefore charge you to set out on your travels and never return until you bring me the Golden Pidgeot of Sinoch."

"Wait, I thought Pidgeots don't go that far..." Serena mused.

"They can and they do--they cooperate with the native Starlies." Ash replied.

"Poor Owen was troubled by this charge as his stepmother's marking--a teardrop symbol that resembled a hanging Zubat--appeared on his hand." Brock continued over an ominous melody. "After composing himself, he said..."

As Owen, he commands "Obey the ancient pact of the ages and fulfill your duty...for the game I won, I charge you to stand on the top of the tallest tower on my father's castle from the moment of my departure until the hour of my return with the Golden Pidgeot of Sinoch. You are to face the wind, and your food will be what seeds the wind blows you, and your drink the rain that falls on you."

He continues as himself "His stepmother was enraged as Owen's marking, which resembled a reversed musical clef, appeared on her hand. But she had to honor her own bargain."

"This sounds like 'Moltres' Song'... Serena mused.

"It is--only this version comes from Sondo--that explains the Sinoch references." Ash grins

Brock stifled a chuckle at Vaugn's answer. "Oh, it's not gonna take THAT long." he assures him.

After playing a few chords to remember where he is in the long story, he continues. "The next morning Owen, after bidding farewell to his father, his friends, and everyone in the castle, set out on his travels. He saw his stepmother on the tallest tower facing the wind--there to remain, feeding on the seeds that were blown to her and drinking the rain, until he would return-if he did return-with the Golden Pidgeot of Sinoch."

Ash shuddered in anticipation over Brock's "Traveling" song. "Far and very far Owen traveled; until, late that evening, as he sat down by the side of a stream, weary and hungry, a beautiful Arcanine came bounding from the hills. He looked with hungry eyes at him eating his dinner.

"I'm very, very hungry," he pleads as the Arcanine. "Will you share with me?"

As himself, he continues "Owen felt sorry for the majestic dog Pokemon, so he divided his dinner, and gave half of it to the Arcanine, who ate it happily. Then it asked Owen where he traveled. Owen told the Arcanine his sad story, and showed him the charge mark on his hand."

"Sir Owen, you are going on one of the most adventurous, and at the same time most terrible tasks in the world; but, if I, Hunter of the Hills, can do anything to help you, I will. Come with me tonight anyway, and rest." he offers as the Arcanine.

"Of course, Owen thanked Hunter, and went with him." he continues as himself. "Hunter brought him to a fine house on a hill, where Owen got a soft bed for the night."

"Hunter of the Hills is a powerful Arcanine with magical power said to watch over the borderlands between Kanduin and Sondo." Ash explains over the harp's interlude. "As well as innate fire power, his other powers include transforming into things, as you will see shortly."

"He's heard this one a million times." Serena whispers.

The song carried on to what it seemed like an eternity. Vaugn wasn't particularly interested in old folklore, but something in this one troubled him very much. Was it a dejavu? He couldn't tell. His eyes slowly began to droop as the melody took control of his inner soul and lulled him to sleep.

By now, many of the children of Vitiva have come to listen as Brock continues "The next morning, Hunter told him how the Golden Pidgeot was guarded by the great giant."

"I have lived on this hill for a hundred years," he explains as Hunter, "and have seen 99 brave heroes and heroines pass every year on the quest of the Golden Pidgeot--some of them charged, and some of them on their own free will--but none of them ever returned. However, the great giant is in need of someone to care for the Pidgeot, and your best plan is to offer him your service. When he asks what you can do, tell him that you are good at anything you set your mind to, but especially good at minding golden Pidgeots. If you are lucky enough to get custody of the Pidgeot, be as kind to the bird as you can, until it grows to like you. If you succeed, it may wish to go with you. But when you have earned its trust, your task is only begun. Every stone in the giant's castle is enchanted, and can tell him if anything goes wrong. If he discovers you trying to steal the Golden Pidgeot, you cannot escape with your life. The giant lives five thousand miles away from here; but if you want, I will transform myself into a fine steed, and then quickly carry you to the giant's castle."

He interjects as himself "Owen agreed, and Hunter sang..."

The children gasp as Brock sings Jao wiisha nes chiel com yutuul..., conjuring sparkling red Beautiflies. "...transforming into the legendary steed Epona in a flash of fire! Only Epona's heels touched the tops of the hills, as they whirled over the world like Satomi the Wise on her nightly ride. They overtook the wind before them, but the wind behind couldn't overtake them."

"Late in the evening they reached the castle of the great giant." Brock went on, trying oh-so hard not to laugh at the children scrambling to catch the sparkling Beautiflies his show spell had conjured. "Once Owen dismounted, the shining Ponyta became Hunter again. Hunter wished him success; and said if he ever escaped from the giant's castle with his life, he would be waiting. With that, they parted."

"And then?" the children begged.

"Then he went up to the castle and knocked at the gates; and a great giant, the most terrible Owen had ever seen, came out and asked who he was and what he wanted." Brock went on, making the children shudder in excitement and fear. "He answered that he was Owen, of the Aiiro City, and was in search of a master. The giant asked what he could do, and Owen answered that he was good at anything he put his mind to, but especially good at minding Golden Pidgeots."

"Very well, as I'm just needing such a person, I'll hire you for a bag of gold, to serve me for a year and a day; and in the morning I'll show you your work." he explained in character as the giant.

He went on as himself "He took Owen in, gave him food and a bed; and in the morning told him he was going to put his work before him."

Thousands of Cheri blossom petals swirled from Shawn's harp, engulfing the training dummy in pink. When the chord faded, it was hard to tell what was the training dummy and what was petals

"Your duty, is to care for and feed that Pidgeot, and see that nothing happens to it." he instructs in character as the giant.

As himself, he cautions over a somber melody "He warned Owen that if he ever messed with the Pidgeot or shirked his duty, it would be his life in exchange. He then left Owen and the Pokemon alone."

Shawn smiled. That was more like it. He quickly played the song of fire again, hoping to use the flammable petals to his advantage. If he did it right, the petals could catch fire and greatly increase the area of affect by surrounding the dummy completely in flame.

Jao wiisha nes chiel com yutuul... Ash heard the song, followed by a huge flare that lit up the training grounds. While he knew the song conjured holy fire, he had to be ready to cast a water spell should the minstrel not be able to control the flames.

After the initial flare had died down, he told Brock "You may continue your tale."

The harp's song then turned mysterious. "They planned to escape at midnight on a certain night. When the appointed time came, Owen climbed out the window with the Pidgeot under his arm, when the Pidgeot happened to innocently flutter a wing, and the tip of its wing touched a rock."

Gasps went up as Brock intoned "That was enough to wake the giant, and he brought Owen and the Pidgeot back to the castle. But for some reason, seeing the charge mark on Owen's hand made him reconsider killing him."

As the giant, he explained "I only want one thing to make me The Greatest Master of Them All-but I have never yet been able to get. It is the Sword of Light belonging to the king of Fanyan, a flash from which can light up half the world in rainbow light. It lies in the innermost room of the king's palace, constantly guarded by ten thousand warriors. Hundreds of heroes have gone seeking that sword, but none have ever returned with their lives. Your life will be spared if within a year and a day you bring me that wonderful blade."

As himself, he continued "Owen agreed to the task, and was seen off the next morning."

"He had not gone far, when Hunter of the Hills appeared, and asked him how things had gone. Owen told Hunter what had happened; and Hunter cautioned that he was now going on a far more adventuresome task than before." Brock went on.

"But, I'll do everything in my power to help you." he assured the antsy crowd as Hunter.

He went on "With that, Hunter sang Karuto, iichiida shou...

The children rased to catch the shining wings the show spell had conjured as Brock continued "...transforming into a majestic Braviary. Owen then climbed on the Braviary's back, and set off. The tips of the Braviary's wings brushed the fire off the stars, as they went around the world like a celestial arrow. They overtook the whirlwinds before them, and the whirlwinds behind couldn't overtake them-and they never stopped until, late that evening, they landed at the castle of the king of Fanyan, where the Braviary turned into Hunter again. Hunter told Owen to ask for work at the castle, and when the king asked what he could do, to reply that he was good at anything he put his mind to, but especially good at caring for swords."

"He needs someone to tend the Sword of Light, and may hire you. If you ever escape from the castle with your life, you'll find me here waiting for you." he explained as Hunter.

As himself, he continued "Owen thanked Hunter, and all happened as Hunter said."
