Pokemon Aesthetics (aka Mood Boards) :: A Request Thread

Introduction :: What's this about?

Hello there! I recently took a vacation to Procrastination Destination, where the slogan is "We'll get there... eventually." While putting off my homework and lurking on tumblr, I stumbled upon a blog known as orphic-celeste. They do absolutely amazing aesthetic collages based on combinations of zodiac signs, Meyers-Briggs personality types, good/neutral/evil alignments, and Hogwarts houses, among other things. They're so crazy good, it's inspirational. So, I decided to make my own mood boards! I've been making them on my own for a little while, but friends ask for some from time to time. It got me thinking... I should make a thread for them and take requests! In case you didn't know, a mood board/aesthetic (at least in orphic-celeste's format) consists of eight images, usually from tumblr or We Heart It, with a central color scheme and feel to them. If you want some examples, scroll down one post~

NEW: Sometimes, I'll post a mood board and not state which Pokemon it's based on. Feel free to take a guess when you see one of these!

Cool! How do I order one?

Just make sure you give me the following information: what Pokemon you want a mood board for, and any additional challenges. (A challenge being something like "Make a Chandelure aesthetic, but don't use pictures of fire." I've actually already done that one. It was self-imposed.) Challenges are optional. Also, please only request one at a time. You can request another one once I have finished and posted the previous one.

Alrighty! I'm finally done! I'll try my absolute hardest not to take this long in the future ;w;

Bulbasaur:

With this one, I tried to combine the warm feeling of home with the feeling of adventure. I felt that it really represented Bulbasaur's status as a starter Pokemon. I hope I did a good job! I think I did. I don't think there's anything I really need to explain here; it's a pretty simple one.

I really like how this one turned out as well! I used both the light and dark blues on Vaporeon, as well as working in some cream and white. I personally like how it feels sort of summery, cool, and relaxing.

Now, finding pictures for this was pretty hard. Some of my original concepts included pawprints in the sand and smooth, blue stones. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but I made do with what I had. The beach umbrella was probably my favorite little stumble-upon; I figured I could use it to represent Vaporeon's neck frill.

And now, one that nobody asked for (but I spent like 5 hours on anyway) :

Gengar. I had loads of both fun and frustration with this one. Finding a variety of pictures for a Pokemon with a simple design is challenging, but worth it. I ended up scrapping two of the pictures last-minute and replacing them. (Literally last minute. As in right before I uploaded it) I hope this screams "Gengar" as loudly to you as it does to me!

I got done with these a lot faster than I normally do!! And I really like both of these!! So here they are

This one was pretty tough! I had a color scheme in mind (soft reds and off-whites), but finding the right pictures took a while. I tried to capture the themes of femininity and love here, and I think I did a good job! The dew on the dandelions represents Soul Dew. The rest of it is pretty simple. I didn't expect to stumble on that one of the person in the mountains, but I found it with the keyword "mist" (you know, Mist Ball)! And I really liked it! It took me, like, 7 times of seeing that airplane wing one before I chose it over another one I had in the same folder. I'm happy with my choice~

Holy cow, I really, really like this one!!! I expected this one to take waaaaaay longer than the Latias one, but I did it super quickly! Bulbapedia was super helpful for this one. All the little tidbits about Ditto really helped me put this together. This one really made me think! It was a lot of fun. Here are the reasons for all of the pictures:

The color scheme was chosen because: "In its natural state, Ditto is a light purple or magenta free-form blob with vestigial facial features." Yeah, depending on where you look, Ditto's either light purple or magenta. c'x

1.) I asked a friend what he would suggest for this mood board, and he said to try searching "paint". I found this and thought it fit! Just a side thought, but sort of looks like a Ditto halfway through morphing into a human. XD
2.) This is one of the many pictures I found while searching "pastel purple". I felt super smart for adding this, because Dittos are used a lot for breeding, and breeding produces eggs! (In Pokemon, at least. If my cat laid an egg I'd probably scream)
3.) Another "pastel purple" search result. I figured, since "ditto" means "same", and these M&Ms all look more or less the same, why not?
4.) Cells! "Ditto, a Transform Pokémon. It is able to rearrange the cells of its body and assume any form." Thanks, Bulbapedia.
5.) "Ditto will also transform into a rock when sleeping to avoid attack." Thanks, Bulbapedia.
6.) Jell-O. Dittos are gooey. Need I say more?
7.) "Ditto is never far from civilization or people." Thanks, Bulba- *shot* I know this bus is empty, but it's a sign of civilization, and I can just imagine a Ditto riding it into the city and being really excited to see its human friends!!
8.) And finally, a quote about change. I really love this quote <3

Should I start doing reasons for all of these? Because some of them I just sort of stumble upon, and it's hard to explain why I added them. That Ditto one was the first one I really had to dig for facts for; the others were more based on the design and general, well, aesthetic of the Pokemon. Ditto has the simplest design out of any Pokemon I've made one of these more, so I really had to use my noggin. It was a nice challenge!

I'm curious to know your thought process behind this one, too! I'm guessing the primary reason is because of colors, no? I mean I think I understand the reasoning behind the dew, the vast night sky (with Latios' Psychic-typing and all), and the allusions to planes and flying. I'm not sure the specific reason behind the mountains and stones, though? I'm curious! The pic of the stones doesn't allude to the Enigma Stone in HGSS, does it? Oh, and I guess the water is because it's stated that it "lives by the water's edge," right?

Yeah, you got those right. And yep, I chose the pebbles because of the Enigma Stone c: The mountains are there because the picture was taken in a way that makes it feel like you're flying over them. And I sort of wanted a parallel to the misty mountain picture in the Latias mood board. c'x

Alright! I still have a few more to do, but I'm proud of what I've done, so I want to post some. (Also, I kind of burnt myself out working on these for the day.)

First up is Pikachu! Chakramaster

This one's pretty straightforward. The lightbulb and sparkler are there because of Pikachu's status as an Electric-type. The balloons are there for that reason as well (we've all had fun with static-y balloons, haven't we?). They're also a little reference to that one rare Flying Pikachu card. The polka-dot room represents the dots on Pikachu's cheeks, and the heart lollipops look like Cosplay Pikachu's tail. The bike is a callback to the beginning of the anime. :3 The forest is Pikachu's home, and for the quote, well... I just thought it was cute!

Next up is Lugia! Velocity

This one went by so, so quickly compared to the other two here. And I must say, I'm super proud of the outcome! The stars and the galaxy are there because Lugia is a Psychic-type, and it's sort of become a habit of mine to put space stuff in Psychic mood boards. (Plus, I just felt that those pictures fit Lugia so well.) The two ocean pictures and the clouds are pretty self-explanatory. The quote references the fact that Lugia can both summon and calm storms. The cliffs were added after seeing this little tidbit on Bulbapedia: "It is said that a light flutter of its wings is capable of causing winds powerful enough to tear down cliffs." The piano is there because of how iconic Lugia's Song is, but I couldn't really find a fitting picture of a flute. I feel like the piano fits Lugia more anyways. The little flap things on its back remind me of piano keys.

And, finally, the one that took me the longest out of these three! Who's that Pokemon?

Maybe instead of offering free mood board requests right off the bat, maybe the person who guesses it right can request a free one? Then again that would expect for you to already get a lot of traffic in this thread. Of course to encourage fairness the same person couldn't guess more than one time consecutively unless no one else is going to guess or something. Just some brainstorming! :D

I figured with Bellossom you would have used much more tropical scenery, flowers, and possibly even some hula dancers. I took about 30 minutes thinking, "okay, let's get inside of Cait's head for a while." xD

I'm going to keep guessing because this is a lot of fun! It isn't Chikorita, is it? The reason being is because the pears kinda remind me of Chikorita in color and shape, plus all the references to plants poking out to try to get sunlight (the fence), or a great tree soaking it up. Chikorita seems very effeminate and the two quotes also share this feeling; especially with the style the second quote is written in. AND THE THERMOSTAT IS A REFERENCE TO TEMPERATURE OMG I THINK I AT LEAST ALMOST GOT IT >:D As for the bench, I wouldn't be surprised if you drew a correlation between benches and sunbathing because you kinda, you know, SIT on benches. Outside. When it's nice out.

Maybe instead of offering free mood board requests right off the bat, maybe the person who guesses it right can request a free one? Then again that would expect for you to already get a lot of traffic in this thread. Of course to encourage fairness the same person couldn't guess more than one time consecutively unless no one else is going to guess or something. Just some brainstorming! :D

I figured with Bellossom you would have used much more tropical scenery, flowers, and possibly even some hula dancers. I took about 30 minutes thinking, "okay, let's get inside of Cait's head for a while." xD

I'm going to keep guessing because this is a lot of fun! It isn't Chikorita, is it? The reason being is because the pears kinda remind me of Chikorita in color and shape, plus all the references to plants poking out to try to get sunlight (the fence), or a great tree soaking it up. Chikorita seems very effeminate and the two quotes also share this feeling; especially with the style the second quote is written in. AND THE THERMOSTAT IS A REFERENCE TO TEMPERATURE OMG I THINK I AT LEAST ALMOST GOT IT >:D As for the bench, I wouldn't be surprised if you drew a correlation between benches and sunbathing because you kinda, you know, SIT on benches. Outside. When it's nice out.

You're like, frighteningly good at getting inside of my head. O_o The funny thing is, I had found the bench while looking for pictures for the Bulbasaur one and thought, "Hmm, this reminds me of Chikorita. I'll save it for later." Yay! Someone noticed the temperature thing!! The little heart in the background of the second quote is also a reference to Chikorita's affection for Ash. And, yeah, I'd provide an explanation, but you pretty much summed it up. c'x (Except some of that stuff just happened as I was collecting photos. The peeking out to reach sunlight was admittedly not intentional. But good eye! See? Creative discussion already.)

Life is too short to wait :: Surskit's a bug, and sadly, irl those tend to have short lifespans. Luckily, Pokemon decided not to go down that dark route and made them just evolve early, which works for this quote too in a way
Cupcakes :: Surskit secretes a sweet syrup! (say that 5 times fast) Plus they're cute
Paint splash :: It looked watery I guess? It's one of those pictures that just kind of clicked with me
Flowers :: Bugs and flowers...plus they look Surskit-y in a way...yeah.
Bunny :: This is a perfume bar! Which also references Surskit's sweet scent
Rain drops :: duh again
