View Full Version : Pokemon Gijinka: Apocalypse
AWA1997

Welcome to the pokemon world, or, at least, what's left of it. 200 years ago the world was populated by humanoid pokemon known as gijinkas as well as non-pokemon animals, but was destroyed by a nuclear war. Thankfully, Vault Tec supplied the means to survive through it, in the form of underground vaults, until it is safe to return to the surface. During those 200 years, most of the creatures mutated into horrible beasts while the remaining gijinkas on the surface either fought them off to create new settlements or mutated as well.
Underground, however, things were not much better. Only a few of the vaults were actually meant to keep those inside alive, the others were made to conduct experiments. These experiments ranged from keeping them in the vault forever to pumping drugs through the air vents, and everything in between. Though, not all experiments were on the residents. Some were along the lines of creating the perfect way to grow plants.
You have been sheltered from the world your whole life, inside one of these vaults, and now you must traverse the harsh and desolate wasteland. Will you ally with a strong faction of the survivors? Or will you stay neutral? Will you turn to crime? Or will you help stop criminals? The choices are all yours, and yours alone.
Be careful, though, in the wasteland, each choice you can make will have a repercussion, which could lead to someone hunting you down for being too good or too bad or for siding against them. Always be prepared, or it could be your last day and you wouldn't know it until it's too late.
Also, the pokemon that could've healed the world, the major legendaries, are the ones behind Vault Tec. The minor legends, however, were tricked into living in the vaults because the others felt they may get in the way of everything.
Rules:
1) All PXR rules apply.
2) You must have a character that is a 'vault dweller' gijinka. Later on, you may take on a character that is one of the mutated species that came from gijinkas.
3) Keep in mind how the radiation may or may not affect your character. For instance, Grass-types would likely have a lot of issues due to the radiation, steel types could be immune, and poison types may heal. But these aren't necessarily true. Just use your head on it.
4) Genderless pokemon must have genders.
5) Everyone starts with characters equivalent to level five pokemon, but there is no real leveling system.
6) There can only be one of every legendary, and the major legends are the Overseers of the vaults.
7) Have fun!
Gijinka Evolution: Level evolutions are a little loose, friendship evolutions are completely up to the RPer, Sylveon counts as a friendship evolution, stone evolutions are normal, and trade evolutions require a link cable and whatever other item is necessary if applicable.

CLEARLY this is Fallout. So i had to add in the magic SPECIAL stats thingy.
Name: Steven Six
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Species: Absol
Appearance:
Moves: Night Slash, Aerial Ace, Blizzard, Hone Claws
SPECIAL: 7.8.6.2.7.3.7
Personality:
History: He had lived a normal life before the bombs started dropping...
Crush: Steven does not intend to end up in another relationship, given how the last one... Ended.
Other: Steven was a bit slow to get to the vault, and his already short temper was refined and made unpredictable by the small sprinkling of radiation he got hit with. This is something he will soon call a "Break." A break is a period of uncontrollable rage and strength, commonly brought on by aggravations and stress, although sometimes they come randomly. He's trying to get it under control, but...

HAHAHAHA!! *slow clap while laughing*
So we have to have a first stage pokemon? And I think you know me well enough what my other question will be since I see nothing in the rules about it, yes?

I have to add in more because of the four paragraph rule for the badge, so the setup post isn't quite done, I just had to leave when I had that much.
Steven_Six, I wasn't quite sure how to add in the SPECIAL system or it would be there already. I wasn't sure which would be better, the pokemon stats, the SPECIAL stats, or finding a way to work both in.
Vigilante Janobii, first, why are you laughing and slow clapping? Second, yes, except in the cases of baby pokemon such as snorlax, where it could be either one. Third, I was actually still thinking through on legendaries, including Shaymin. Give me a bit to think it through some more, please.
Also, do either of you have an idea on what region this should be in? I didn't want to just plop down a region before getting some feedback on that topic.
Steven_Six

Hmmm good question... Uh. Maybe a Superregion, like a pangea of sorts?
And i couldn't help but Special, mate.

1. Because you chose Fallout! I should have known.
2. So, just to make sure I've got this right. I can have Fennekin, but not Delphox. I can have Azurill and Marill, but not Azumarill. And I can have Budew and Roselia, but what about Roserade since you can have a level 1-5 Roserade.
3. Ha! Steven_Six told you he'd know! And I figured it was worth posing Awa, no pressure.

1. Ah. Well I don't know many other game franchises. If it were just franchises in general, I would've asked you if you'd think Flare would be mad about me sort of borrowing Pokemon Defense Academy, with some tweaks of course.
2. I'm not sure if I'd count Roserade as a special condition evolution or not, but you're right everywhere else.
3. XD Ok, then. And, yeah, I'm just thinking of how the legendaries would work because I'm sure they would've already fixed the world in 200 years unless they were working with Vault Tec as the vaults' Overseers, and if we did that, then the Shaymin would be a minor character, and I don't think you'd want that.
Also, did you see the poll?

1. I actually had thought of that when I was looking at the roleplay thing too but decided against it. XD
2. Well Roserade isn't the only one like that. Raichu, Wigglytuff, Clefable, the Eeveelutions, Togekiss, Lucario, Chimecho, Honchkrow, and Mismagius are some of the others that could fall into this category off the top of my head.
3. Unless the minor legendaries were locked in the vaults too to keep them from meddling or something. Like the bigger legendaries tricked them into believing that the situation was too dangerous for them.
AWA1997
05-13-2016, 09:51 PM
1. XD Great minds think alike.
2. Chingling and Chimecho fall under Snorlax and Munchlax's rules. And, yeah, stones and happiness are a couple I'll have to think about, unless you think they'd just work as is.
3. True, that could work. And I believe the only ones that would be affected by that are Mew, Manaphy, Jirachi, Shaymin, and Celebi, correct? (Not counting Rotom and Phione as legendaries, since I don't see them as legendaries.)
Noblejanobii
05-13-2016, 10:19 PM
2. Happiness I could see. It's the stones I'm a bit iffy on. Unless the people in the vault could somehow obtain one in a viable way, then I'm not sure how they would have the stones. Unless Vault Tec has just been supplying them with stones the whole time.
3. Would Victini, Meloetta, Diancie, and Hoopa not be considered as well? They're all considered Pixies too last I checked.
AWA1997
05-13-2016, 10:28 PM
Well, the stones seem plentiful in the games, so maybe they had enough to keep the vaults supplied for 200 years.
I didn't think about Victini and Melloetta, but yeah, them too. As for Diancie and Hoopa, I still know nothing of Gen 6, so if you think they count, then sure.

Hey, I have an idea for trade evolutions. If the pokemon evolve through trade from their lowest stage, they evolve at level 20, and if they evolve via trade from their middle stage, they evolve at 40, in both cases providing they meet their requirements. So a porygon with an upgrade and a dubious disk can evolve at levels 20 and 40, a karrablast and a shelmet must both be at level 20 and evolve together, and a machop will evolve at levels 28 and 40. Sound good?

I'm interested, but haven't come up with a character yet.
As far as evolution goes, I wouldn't worry too much about it, it doesn't need to be that complex. I find it's better and safer to just keep things on the simple side, especially for just a regular RP.
Noblejanobii
05-13-2016, 11:43 PM
That sounds like a good idea, AWA. But I wouldn't get too technical with it since in order to do levels you'd have to come up with a level system. Maybe instead you could take a note from PMD and have link cables implemented that evolve trade evolutions.

Well, I mean outside of the video games, levels don't even really matter, so *shrugs* whatever.
Also, after some thought, I will add in the SPECIAL stats, so be thinking about that. You get 40 points to split amongst Strength Perception Endurance Charisma Intelligence Agility and luck, so long as you have at least 1 point and no more than 10 points in each one.

Ok, apparently according to Sam and Steven there are 28 points for SPECIAL stats, so you have 28 points to mess with, even though I looked it up and it said there were 40.
Sam, I'd like at least a little more detail, but I guess that can be a bare-minimum accepted form.
Awasfriend Close enough.

It depends on which version of Fallout you're going with. Everything prior to Fallout 4 had 40 points, I'm pretty sure. The reason why it's 28 in Fallout 4 is because you get a perk every level, which can be used to buy those extra SPECIAL points. There's also magazines, bobbleheads, and other stuff like that.
Since we're not really using perks or that other stuff, I'd say keep it at 40, because having only 28 means our characters are below average in most areas. In fact, if you distribute them evenly across the board, you only get a 4 "Fair" for everything.

Name: Martin Vickers
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Species: Pachirisu
Appearance: Martin stands 6'1" and weighs about 165 pounds. He has a fair skin tone complexion with hair that starts white and fades to blue as it reaches his shoulders. He also has blue eyes and generally wears a relaxed and cheerful expression.
Martin mainly wears a white hoodie over a light blue t-shirt along with white and blue cargo pants and white sneakers. The large, oversized white and blue spiked Pachirisu tail starts from just above his rear and shoots upward a foot above his head before coiling back around again mid-way. Meanwhile, he also has two blue Pachirisu ears emerging from his head.
Moves: Thunderbolt, Grass Knot, Iron Tail, Protect
SPECIAL: (Going with 40)
STRENGTH: 4
PERCEPTION: 8
ENDURANCE: 4
CHARISMA: 4
INTELLIGENCE: 5
AGILITY: 9
LUCK: 6
Personality: Martin is a sassy and impatient person that quickly gets bored, and when that happens, he starts creating his own entertainment at the expense of others. Quite a few other vault dwellers consider him annoying and hasty, as he likes to rush through most things and usually doesn't wait up for anyone. As a result, some consider him somewhat impolite also.
In terms of weapons and combat, Martin prefers whatever is quick, easy, and effective. He generally wouldn't like lugging around oversized rocket launchers or miniguns. He also wouldn't care to be dragging a whole arsenal with him (not to mention he wouldn't be able to carry most of it). He'd rather have one or two favorite weapons that are tried and true than to have dozens. On that same note, Martin prefers attacking from a distance and generally avoids up close and personal fights. Things like pistols and sniper rifles would probably be his favorites, but he could also feel at home with throwing knives, grenades, or just using his own Pokémon attacks.
History: Martin was born to Natalya Vickers and John Vickers. Even as a child, Martin quickly rushed through chores and only did a hasty job. He also wasn't very good with his schoolwork, but in terms of physical exercises, he was great and often ran laps around his fellow peers.
Martin quickly got bored of life in the vault and always fantasized what life was like on the surface. He had heard many terrible things about it, but it didn't bother him. Just the idea of open air, real atmosphere, and more room to move around him was invigorating to him. He had seen pictures in books about what life was like before, and it almost seemed like something out of a fantasy. When it came time for the vault to be opened, Martin was one of the first to volunteer to head out into the open world.
Now that the vault has been opened, he eagerly awaits to see what the outside is like, regardless of the warnings of threats. To him, the surface could be as bad as Hell itself and he'd still be interested in getting out there and exploring.
Crush: N/A. Martin has had dates before, but his hastiness and impoliteness usually mean they don't last very long.
Other: Martin is a rogue-like character that specializes in things like lock-picking, sneaking, and sabotage. Because of his very high agility and perception, he is very quick about doing these kinds of tasks that most others would need time and concentration to accomplish. His many years of being bored in the vault opened up ideas to mess around with things, and lock-picking and sneaking around was no exception. He is also prone to striking fast and moving quickly, even with some tasks that require time (stealth, lock-picking, sniping).
He, however, doesn't have the endurance or the strength to take a whole lot of damage or use heavy weapons and armor. He doesn't even like these things as he feels they slow him down and just make someone slow and clunky. His rather impatient behavior also makes him less likable than most other gijinkas, hence the reduction in charisma. He even admits he doesn't like to lead simply because most others have trouble keeping up with him and they think he can be a bit rude.

Again, that's Fallout 4, though. They expect you to get bobbleheads, magazines, and perks to raise those up throughout the course of the game. In the versions before, the SPECIAL scores didn't change all that much, but you started with 40 points.
If we go with Fallout 4, it will basically say most people are bad at just about everything and will stay bad unless this RP puts in perks, bobbleheads, and magazines in the kind of quantity that Fallout 4 does. Since we're just using it as a rough character building guide, I'm thinking it would be better to just go with 40 points rather than try to put all that other stuff in.

Quick question, I looked at the poll and I'm curious, who said Other and where were you thinking of putting it?
And Awasfriend Steven_Six thanks to both of you for fixing the stats.
I did. The thing that I don't like is using an aspect of the Pokemon World in a super continent or even current existing region. The thing about using one is not the fact only they are based on real world locations, they are small. Each region is only as big as a normal country, and even combining the six we currently know would be about or a little bit bigger than Australia. This would work out for awhile, but we aren't in a "general" region. Everything's been devastated by this nuclear war, making basically all standouts about the unique regions nigh except for mountains.
Coming up with your own areas and territory makes everything easier on the GM and roleplayer as they can set up the terrain on their own. You can make unique cities which could be based on other locations rather than being stuck to the normal towns. This leads to more creativity, more world-building, and more choices to make.
TL;DR Avoiding established areas would make it work better and allow more diversity, which in turn leads to an overall better experience in my opinion.

I originally voted Unova, but I agree with this and it makes a lot more sense. I think we should go with this and make our own doscoveries and things as the RP progresses. In the process, we create our own region and that sounds like something that would be a lot more interesting.

Ok, that does make sense, I only included that for sake of leaving a few familiar ruins like in Fallout anyways, but leaving only mountains and the like would probably be better. So that's a vote of 4-3 in favor of Dash's idea at the very least.
I'm thinking maybe take a page from Jan where there may be recognizable mountains and such from all of the regions, and even some unrecognizable ones to allow more than just what there already were in the six main regions. Does that sound alright, Chara?

Firstly, sorry for taking so long to post this, and secondly, did we ever decide what region we were doing?
Name: Xie Jade
Age: 19
Gender: female
Species: Shaymin
Appearance: Xie is not your stereotypical dainty shaymin. In her land form, her skin is pale while and she has long vibrant green hair that goes down to her calves. Xie also has two flowers on the side of her head and her eyes are a bright jade green. She also has a brand on her right cheek of the number 492, but is very sensitive about people asking about or touching it. She usually wears long blue jeans with black, steel toed, combat boots. Her top is a black t-shirt with a ornate while broken heart on it and a solid black hoodie that she uses to hide her flowers.
In her sky form, her hair is the same vibrant green, but is styled in a pixie cut. Her pale white skin, jade eyes, and 492 brand remain unchanged. She no longer has flowers on the side of her head, instead wearing a red bandanna around her neck. Xie wears a white tank top with green shorts and white sneakers in her sky form. She also wears green fingerless gloves. Her body is much more muscular and defined in this form.
Moves: Growth, Seed Bomb, Toxic, Hidden Power (rock)
SPECIAL: Land Form- 2, 7, 3, 10, 10, 2, 6; Sky Form- 10, 5, 7, 2, 2, 10, 4
Personality: Xie is a relatively nice person, once you get to know her. On your first encounter, one might find that Xie is very closed off and untrusting. She does not really open herself up to others until she deems them worthy of her trust. She will open up slowly as one hangs around her longer, but any type of delving into her past leads to them falling back to square one. Nevertheless, she does care for others and will not hesitate to save their lives if she is needed. Xie is better off following orders than giving them, but will offer opinion on things whether it is requested or not. However, one thing remains true to her through and through, if there’s a person who has any association with those who run the vaults, Xie will go after them with no mercy. In such a state, Xie cannot think straight, nor can she discern enemies from allies. Thus, she will attack anyone and everyone that is around her until her true target is eliminated.
History: Xie has a very traumatizing past that causes her guarded and violent personality. Xie was actually born shortly after her parents entered the vaults, roughly 200 years ago. She grew up in the vaults and loved her life, but what she never realized is that her vault was a special experimentation vault. While many legendaries were members of Vault Tec and avoided this ordeal altogether, these dwellers were special, they were pixie legendaries. Thus, they were locked away without much of an idea what was going on. Xie was experimented on quite a bit as she grew up, and while this had some perks, such as her ability to shift between forms without the need for a Gracidea Flower, the cons were much worse. Xie’s parents did not survive experimentation, and neither did many of her friends. Those who did were either taken away or cryogenically frozen. Xie was left alone. She and many others who survived the experiments were branded with a number on their face. Xie realized what was ultimately going on about the time her parents died, when she was thirteen, so she turned to her closest friend, Terri Phay, a male manaphy gijinka. He was in the same situation as she, both parents dead, most friends gone, and branded with the number 490. For whatever reason, despite most of the other dwellers dying or being shipped away, Terri and Xie stayed together. By the time the two were sixteen, they were dating, enjoying each other’s company while they could, and the longer they stayed together, the more they realized their hatred for Vault Tec. Eventually, they began to plot a rebellion, and on the eve of Xie’s nineteenth birthday, they prepared to attack. Still, Terri and Xie were unsure their plan would work, and in the case that it would fail, they decided to spend one last night together. The next day, just as expected, the employees came for Xie. As with all the female experiments, on the day they turned nineteen, they were taken away and no one knew where. No one had resisted before, but Xie was not going down without a fight. Terri and Xie actually made it pretty far in their plan, with almost all the other experiments joining in on the rebellion. Sadly, they were unsuccessful. Just as Xie and Terri were about to reach the open doors with several other experiments, they were all frozen with a strong psychic attack. The last thing they all saw was the door shutting before they were all put to sleep by a hypnosis attack. Xie woke up an undetermined amount of time later in a very cold container. She tried to smash up against the glass, but it was a pointless effort. However, her banging drew the attention of the next cell’s occupant, Terri. The two merely stared at one another as the realization set in that they had failed, and now they were going to be placed in suspended animation. They were not given long, as the air rapidly cooled around them. Terri could see how scared Xie was, and, before the cold fogged over his tube, Terri offered Xie a big smile, which she reciprocated. Then, everything went dark. Xie woke up over a century later, the final pod to be opened it seemed. Upon checking the logs in her vault, she saw that all the other subjects from the vault had been frozen as well. They were either dead or had been released. It was in these logs that Xie noticed Terri had been released only a few months before she, but while her escape was recorded as “remote release”, suggesting someone had released her from a Vault Tec headquarters, Terri’s was recorded as “manual release”, giving the impression that he had either escape himself or some employees had come to take him away. Now, escaping the vault with only a pistol and knife to her name, Xie’s ultimate goal is to find Terri, save him, and exact her revenge on Vault Tec.
Crush: she could possibly be convinced, but you’d have to convince her Terri’s not worth hanging on to.
Other: Due to the fact that her land form naturally purifies the air, Xie is relatively unaffected by the pollution or radiation in this form. However, she can only stay in her sky form for a limited time, since the purification process does not occur in her sky form. In effect, the longer she stays in her sky form, the more sickly she becomes and the longer she has to stay in her land form to make any sort of recovery, if at all. It should also be noted that the vault logs did not give a proper date, so Xie has no idea how much time has passed since she was frozen.

Well, then... That was interesting... Accepted.
And I believe that we're going with the idea of a Pangea with very few recognizable characteristics, but I'm unsure because the person who was trying to help me with world development and the like hasn't replied yet.

It started off really innocent. She was going to be a somewhat stereotypical shaymin and then I got to her appearance and went "nah psh, lets make her a kick butt gal versus dainty and crap" and then I got to her personality and history, and the story just took a mind of its own. Plus I warned all of you in another thread and no one tried to stop me.
Well feel free to consult me as well.

I don't remember the warning, but oh well, I like it.
Right, I actually like what you said, ran it by the other person (Chara) and haven't had a reply since.

I don't usually go to that thread...
Right!
We can wait a little bit, but I've been wanting to do a fallout RP for a while, and we have a decent cast so far, so if we're just waiting on a few people, it may just be better to start a little early and help them jump in when they're ready.

Yeah sure, but I think it would be best to take a vote. Also, I think it would be a good idea to create sort of like a guide to all the characters in the front post. Just like what we do for ASE except with links to the different profiles and stuff.

Well I didn't mean we should do it with out a general consensus saying yes. And, alright, I'll keep that in mind, just not yet.

Yeah Yeah I got you. Just a suggestion. You want me to tag everyone so we can get a vote?

Ok, after scanning through the thread, the general consensus on where it is seems to be to make it wholly unique, with you and I wanting it to be pangea, but also unique places as well.
As for forms being done, two people have unfinished forms, and Chara doesn't have a form at all.

Should we tag everyone and call in for a final map vote plus a start of the rp vote?

Sure. But we should at least give people a few days to finish their forms if they think they can make it.
Chara Steven_Six Flowey Neo Emolga Eternity
So, just for clarification, one final vote on our location, and one for if we should start this within the next few days and help others in once they're ready.
My votes: An expanded pangea of the pokemon world, and start in the next few days.

Sure, sure.
First vote for "Other," as in we do what Chara said, make up a new region as we go along.
Two, I'm totally fine with starting this up soon. Looking forward to it. :D

I'm voting kind of a pangea otherish type thing where it's new region but with familiar locations as well.
And since I suggested it of course I'm up for starting this soon.

Ok, so I'll count Jan and I's votes as 1/2 pangea and 1/2 completely new, since that's what it seems to be.
Current tally
Location: 2- Completely new 1- Pangea.
Starting- 3- Start soon 0- Wait.

Ok, well, it appears Steven and Eternity have been offline for a while, and I haven't seen Chara post anything recently, so I'm going to assume it's safe to start without them...
I'll post the actual RP soon-ish.

Sorry for the double post, just an update for the situation I'm in.
I apologize for the delay on starting this. I have issues writing intro posts and my internet has been crappy, so I haven't really been able to work on starting it. I will try to have this up today.

For the SPECIAL, yes, it's 40, and just an FYI the pixie legends were put in their own vaults because the major legends wanted them out of the way, and you can't have your character from any of the vaults anyone else is from. Use that information as you will.
