Summary: Vaugn, 9 years old (at the point of this story) is sharing certain memories with his Zorua, Daze, before he started his journey in the Sinnoh Region.

It was a beautiful cloudy day, the sky was a soft shade of light blue and the air tasted fresh. I was sitting in a patch of grass on the side of the road nearby Celestic Town, taking a short break with his beloved trickster, Daze, aka Zorua, which was sitting just inches from him. The skies were truly bright blue, and a sight to behold. The Pidgey flying by gracefully kept adrift on the stead wind, twirling around one another, like they were playing a game of tag. Groups of Combee nearby them were happily pollinated flowers for their mother and Queen, Vespiquen. There was also a small pond in a stone’s throw away where a large number of Water type Pokemon like Shellos and Buizel plus some Goldeens were playing about.
However, besides nature’s beauty, there was something more pleasing for the eyes. There was the young boy, by the name of Vaugn, who sat under a tree for the shade it provided from the beaming sun, with Daze, his beloved Zorua, resting on his lap. Vaugn was very young, but he was wise for his age. He still holds all things childishness in him, but he stood out the most among all the kids from Celestic Town, a tiny village in the Sinnoh region, known for its preservation of the history of Sinnoh, and the way of the old life. Now, how did someone like Vaugn, come across Daze? That is our story for today.
The scene shifts back to Vaugn, with Daze who seems to be taking a short nap atop his lap. Vaugn gently smiles as he places his hand over to pet Zorua's red colored tuft on the top of his head.
“Hey Daze, do you still remember the day we met?”
“Yes I do. Hehehe!” Daze replied telepathically, jumping onto Vaugn's head.
The lad laughed quite heartily as he could tell Zorua was pretty much happy to have met him, as he was happy to have met Zorua.

This is a story before Vaugn began his journey in Kanto region. Heck, this was way before he began his journey in the Sinnoh region. It was at the time his grandfather, Balder was still around. A story between a boy with huge dreams, and a sweet lass he deemed as his rival and childhood friend, and a prankster Pokemon, Zorua.

Celestic Town. A rustic old town well known for its dragon Pokemon folklore and the old way of living. It also houses the Celestic Ruins, with etchings telling the legend of Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie. Celestic Town had its usual run of visitors especially to the ruins, until some strange events that popped up as off late. Things began to go missing, items levitating in mid air, and some eerie laughter that can heard from miles away from the ruins. It was rumored to be haunted, and was shut off from the public's eyes. This didn't stop our young Vaugn however. This called for an adventure.
"Grandie, I'm off to the fields again!" Vaugn said as he bolted towards the door.
"Vaugn, stay off the damn ruins! I won't be backing you up this time round when you're caught! Act like an elder's kid will you?" Balder grunted.
"He heh ehehe ... Yes Grandie!" Vaugn laughed it off.
"What am I going to do about that kid? He...reminds me of him when he was a kid. Heh, like father, like son, eh?" Balder laughed to himself as he resumed preparing his rack of lamb in his vibrant kitchen.
"GIBBBB!!!" Gible snorted.
"Well yes dear. If he doesn't come back early, you get the piece of meat!"
"ggiiiibbbb" Gible sounded very pleased.
Vaugn has been secretly investigating the Ruins, but sometimes have been caught by the locals quite the lot of times. He was the village Elder's grandson, so he has gotten away most of the time, but god knows how long that will last. His grace period was about to end. He was just 7 years old, but there were perks of being a kid. Not frightened by the slightest of things, and always being hardheaded about dealing with things. It was about 5 minutes walk to the Ruins from his house, and upon reaching the entrance, Vaugn had a strange feeling something was watching him. This wasn't the first time however, and the only reason why he has been frequenting more visits to the ruins despite being caught by the other village locals.
"eeegh. This gives me the chill every time! But this time no one is stopping me! I'm going deeper into this place then ever before!"
"mu heeee heee heeee heeee" an eerie laughter echoed from within the ruins.
"......you're not going to scare me! Pffft!" Vaugn braced himself and entered the ruins.
He took a quick look at the surroundings, and nothing seemed unusual as always. He's been visiting the ruins ever since it was deemed haunted and got closed, but he hasn't seen anything strange at all, compared to the dozens of adults who have been telling all sorts of stories.
"....are they all serious? I know I've been here a couple of times already, but there's nothing here to be scared off." Vaugn breathed a sigh of relief.
He ventured a little deeper into the ruins. Usually they were cordoned off for good, but this is where Vaugn has the advantage over the adults. He can go through almost every crag and crevice. Nothing was able to stop him. As he slowly ventured deeper, he started hearing voices.
"...st...o...p...."
"...?", Vaugn looked around, but nothing was to be seen.
"....don't...come...I...am...sca..ry..."
"....", Vaugn shut his ears tight and ventured further in.
"DON'T COME...TEE HEE HEEE...OOOPS!" the voice disappeared for a minute.
Vaugn walked quite a distance in, and noticed the light slowly fading out. However, he saw a peculiar structure of a pillar which was odd looking from the others inside the shrine. One, had a black tuft by the side. Out of curiosity, he pretended to walk past it, and quickly grabbed it when he had the chance.
"OH NO!" the pillar glowed a bright purple, and transformed into a, what looked like a black fox like creature.
Vaugn, caught in the surprise, tripped and took a huge tumble.
"Yeoooowww!!" Vaugn scratched his head,
"....and what on earth are you...?", Vaugn asked the creature, with one eye open.
"I'm ZORUA! Heheeheheheh!", the creature started running around Vaugn in circles.
"....this is going to be FUN! HAHAHAH!" Vaugn started laughing out loud.
"YES! FUN! YES! HEHEHEHE", Zorua chuckled along.
"I'm going to call you Daze! OK?!" Vaugn stood up and clenched his fist. "You can call me Vaugn!"
"This humans and their nicknames. Pfft. FINE, VAUGN!", Zorua replied.
...and that was how the two met. But their friendship wasn't one to last long. Vaugn was only 7, and it was only a matter of time before anyone found this out...

"Hahahaha, can you still believe, it's been already 2 years, Daze?" Vaugn looked at his Zorua.
"hehehehehe. I know right. I can't believe I'm stuck with you for that long!" Zorua snickered.
"...but Daze, do you remember Akina?"
"....that girl who can't stop talking?"
"Yeah, her."
Vaugn paused as he looked up to the skies. It was getting late, in the evening, and it was about time...
He delved back into a memory. The last time he saw Akina, and bid farewell to her.

The rude call from the alarm clock woke Vaugn up from his sleep. He slowly groaned with his mouth wide open, yawning and his sleeping blanket thrown off the bed. He started slapping the alarm clock till the dreadful sound was no more. He got up, and started opening his eyes and tilted his head slightly and noticed it was already 9:50 AM in the morning. It was the day. The day where his friend & rival, Akina travels to Sandgem Town to meet up with Professor Rowan for her first Starter Pokemon. Akina and Vaugn have been friends since they were young. Although Akina is older than Vaugn by 2 years, they got along pretty well. Somehow one complimented the other in various ways. Akina was the calm and composed one, while Vaugn was the noisy and irritant of the both.
But that was from years back. Akina was finally ready to become a Pokemon Trainer. Vaugn got up and stretched slightly, before changing into his clothes and walking down to the kitchen. His grandfather, Balder, was making breakfast as usual with his trusty Gible by his side. He noticed Vaugn wasn't himself, but of course, he was going to part way with his lifelong friend. It was a mutual feeling everyone had to go through sooner or later.
"Aren't you going to see her off, Vaugn...?"
Vaugn kept quiet for a moment.
"Grandie, I'm going out for a while..." Vaugn hooked his cap on and made his way to the door.
Baldere smiled lightly, as he continue making breakfast.
"Don't be late for breakfast Vaugn, I might control my urges, but Gible here will finish things up if you aren't here, hahaha!"
"GIB!" Gible nodded in excitement.
"Don't worry Grandie. I got this!" Vaugn said as he bolted out of the house.
As he came into view of his beautiful quaint town, he took a deep breath of the fresh air that surrounded him. In the faraway distance, he noticed a group of people gathered. Sounds like Akina made quite the crowd as her farewell crew. Vaugn made his way there in his own pace. As he trudged through the crowd, they slowly made way to him, and to his surprise, Akina was looking alive and well. She didn't have a pinch of worry with her, she looked resolute and firm.
"I was waiting for you, Vaugn! What, did you sleep over again? You could have shown up way earlier you know!" Akina grunted.
"Well, I've been held back with a few things back home. Sorry. You ready for this?" Vaugn asked.
"If I weren't, I wouldn't be bidding farewell now, would I, Vaugn?" Akina giggled.
"I envy you. You get to start your journey so fast. I can't believe it." Vaugn sighed.
"You'll get your time soon, slowpoke. Don't worry about it!" Akina grinned.
The talk went for a few more minutes, and before Vaugn realized, Akina had left.
Vaugn returned back home and took a seat at the kitchen table. He threw a very dull face. His granddad couldn't help but notice him being upset. He had to cheer him up somehow. He went by over and took a seat beside him.
"Vaugn, do you have a wish?" Balder asked.
"...."
"Tell me Vaugn, do you have wish that you would like fulfilled no matter the cost?" Balder asked once again, this time with a pinch of seriousness in his tone.
"Wishes can not be granted just like that, grandpa." Vaugn sighed.
"Haha, who said that?.." Balder questioned.
"....what, are you telling me wishes do come true?", Vaugn seemed puzzled.
"Have you heard about a Pokemon called Jirachi?"
"Ji...ra..chi?"
"Yes, also known as the Wish Pokemon. Should you find it across your travels one day, it will grant you any wish you ask for..."
"WHAT?! Are you serious! Grandpa! Tell me more about this Jirachi and where do I find it! I have ONE WISH I would like to have it grant me!" Vaugn got up, all excited and alive.
"Hahaha, and what would that be, Vaugn..?"
