Made it to Asgore, and I've already croaked to him a whopping eight times. I was thinking in order to get the Pacifist ending...

A: Maybe you're supposed to die to him a lot, as the reaction he has progressively gets worse the more you try and talk him out of fighting + the number of times you've died to him. I picked up on that, but I don't know if it's of any coincidence. I'm not sure if you're actually supposed to keep dying to him and something out of that clues him in that you're essentially immortal, but that only triggers when you've died to him X number of times. I actually thought seven was the magic number because of "number of human souls" thing, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
B: You're supposed to try and last as long as you can without fighting him and just keep spamming the Talk action. I just haven't been lasting long enough and despite stuffing the inventory with healing items to try and last as long as possible, I just need to get better at dodging the massive truckload of junk he launches at you (seriously, the swirling helix flame attack thing is an absolute pain to try and avoid and it does so much damage >.<)
C: You're supposed to use a certain item during the battle and that gets him to stop.
Or.
D: There is absolutely no other choice but to fight him, as attempting options A and B will just keep going on forever and ever willy-nilly and "C" doesn't exist. There's a reason why he kills your Mercy command. You just have to grin and bear it. (Have not tried this yet for obvious reasons, don't want to drop the ball after coming all this way)

I'm honestly thinking it's option A, since I figure there's GOT to be a reason why it keeps tracking it like that.

I'm not expecting a full explanation at to what needs to be done, but maybe someone could drop a clue because I'm a little stuck with this one...

I was, but I have a funny feeling I might have missed a step or did something wrong along the way, as I tried to do it without a walkthrough. Some of the dialog choices I picked might not have been the right thing to go with...

If that ends up being the case, I'll just go through the game again while making sure I cover all the bases after referring to a checklist.

Well yeah no matter what you do. Neutral or Pacifist the first playthrough..it will always be Neutral in the end (because some things are locked until you beat it once). You can, however, start the same file back up after you beat it to do the events to unlock the Pacifist from there. Neo Emolga so once you beat the Neutral just reload your current Dave and grab a guide to find what you missed to unlock the True Pacifist ending. You'll know when you've unlocked it and can head to the end. Trust me

Yeah Suicune's Fire Xanthe, it's true. You can only get the Neutral on the first time. You can still however, work on the Pacifist so you don't have to replay from start to finish again.

Holy crap, that boss battle with Flowey is one of the most deranged gaming experiences I've ever dealt with (and I have seen a LOT of weird crap pulled time and time again that messes with the player's mind). And that part where you get kicked out of the game back to your desktop and restart it only to have even MORE screwy things happen was not something I expected either. I first, I thought "crap, probably need to do something different next time" and then that happened, followed by even more crazy stuff.

That ending was great though and you can't help but laugh at the dialogue and goofy jokes the characters throw at each other. Watching Papyrus drive a convertible down the highway with Sans on a motorcycle next to him was priceless. XD

Seriously, thank you all for pushing me to give this game a go. It's been a definite treat. :)

Okay, so I decided to read up on the requirements of Genocide runs, what choices need to be made at each step, and got the whole gist of it via the walkthrough explained on the Wikia site.

And...

...holy crap.

It. Freaking. Permanently. Alters. Your. Game.

Yeeeaaaah... I don't know how I feel about that. I liked that True Pacifist ending and doing this kind of thing dumps a permanent turd all over it that you actually have to go through quite a few hoops to pluck it out of your hard drive and off of the Steam cloud. And that whole Chara breaking the fourth wall crap is kinda creepy. I know it's just a simple game and a few devs having some dark fun with their audience, but geez, that's kind of messed up on a number of levels.

As someone that doesn't play evil characters to begin with in RPGs, this is seriously a high-dive plunge into the dark side like never before.

So yeah, if I asked "what would Jesus do," I don't think he'd touch this with a ten foot pole. Thanks but... *shivers* no thanks...

Also, if you're concerned, you can always back up all the files in your current playthrough to some other place on your computer. Oh, it's fine, it's just... Faustian deals CREEP THE FRICK out of me, I don't care about what context they're in. Break the fourth wall, oh, that's fine. Deadpool does it all the time and I've never had a problem with it, despite that it sometimes can be a bit cheesy, which is okay in small quantities. But (Break the fourth wall) + (Faustian deal) = NO FUNKING WAY, HANDS OFF AND GET LOST. And that... essentially leaves your game completely dead in the gutter permanently... unless you start messing with stuff. Sure, if you mess around with enough stuff, you'll reset the game, but all the stuff you've seen, heard, and experienced... yeah, those memories can't be wiped. And this just sounds like the kind of guilt stuff that would EAT at me after a while.

I'll take Sans's word for it. I seriously don't think I'd have a good time with this. There's been a lot of games where I've forfeited the "evil campaign/character" content because the sheer amount of GUILT they make you feel is painful. Some people are like "oh, why didn't they make it so you can kill the children in Fallout 3" and I'm like I never even knew about that because trying it never even crossed my mind. And forget about blowing up Megaton with the nuke. I watched my brother do it and I was like "yeah, I just can't do that." I didn't even like that town and still. It's actually very RARE I do any of the evil stuff and I honestly dislike it when the game forces you to, such as instances where you need to shoot at cops and civilians, attack angels (I didn't enjoy doing this at ALL in Darksiders), and has caused me to avoid playing certain games altogether (Bayonetta for one, even though I heard it's good).

Undertale is a fantastic game and is an "IN YOUR FACE" to anyone that says good games need great graphics. It's full of great characters, has plenty of funny dialogue and goofy humor, I've already gotten 11 hours into it, and I still feel like there's a lot of cool secrets that I probably missed along the way. Even if I don't ever explore its much darker sides, I definitely enjoyed the game and I'm glad I gave it the chance. Easily ten bucks very well spent.

TL:DR - I just can't do evil very well at all.

EDIT: Bleh, found out the hard way that you have to purge everything in the ruins before Toriel invites you into her house. I meant to get the Toy Knife to make the slaughtering process easier, accidentally headed upward after that, and then I found that out.

EDIT 2:

So far, I've cleaned out the Ruins and Snowdin. And Toriel and Papyrus are now sleeping with the fishes.

So far, it isn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. SO FAR. The fact all the puzzles are deactivated definitely makes it so you plow through it all faster. It's really the walking back and forward to clean out the last remaining enemies that makes it take some time. The creepy music and "But no one came..." is a nice touch.

The battles are definitely significantly easier. You're given HEAPS more of HP and it doesn't take nearly as long to neutralize the enemies. Heck, I haven't had to use one healing item yet. Also, I thought Toriel and Papyrus were going to have a lot of brutal and heart-wrenching dialogue to read. Sure, it's definitely not cheery by a long shot, but it's not as "well, I feel like a total bastard now" kind of wrench to it.

And that actually brings me to my next point...

I thought about it and in a dark and weird way, you could actually justify the elimination of all the monsters. They attack you on sight, seek out to kill you and steal your soul, Toriel attempts to keep you locked up in her home and stuck in the Ruins for life, and Papyrus attempts to bring you to Undyne to be killed and selfishly reap the benefits out of it. Meanwhile, they're all responsible for killing a bunch of humans before you. And heck, the others aren't innocent either.

Interesting food for thought.

I looked up the same thing and found that you can go riiiiiiight back to the start of the game, back through the ruins to the beginning... It takes ages, but in my opinion, it was worth it to speak to Asriel there. Make sure you speak to him multiple times, though, not just once, haha.

Hey now, without my passion the whole Undertale thing probably wouldn't have been started when it did! It all started when I gift Undertale to Gemma, then you, then Gemma made those awesome icons, Sans and Papyrus appeared, then more followed. You can't tell me my passion didn't help to create this as much as Gemma did xD

I looked up the same thing and found that you can go riiiiiiight back to the start of the game, back through the ruins to the beginning... It takes ages, but in my opinion, it was worth it to speak to Asriel there. Make sure you speak to him multiple times, though, not just once, haha.

Doing a genocide run gets you a lot of the ins and outs of the storyline that you didn't get before. It also changes the game dramatically and presents you with new and different challenges that weren't there before. Even though the world layout doesn't change very much, pretty much everything else does. I haven't completed it yet (stuck at the Sans battle, which is not an easy nut to crack), but I'm close to it.

Still, glad to know you enjoyed it! It's a great, little game with many likable characters and its own blend of quirkiness. It's definitely one of those games that most people can get into and enjoy.

As for the name change, I would have gone with King Asgore. He's a good guy with a big heart, but has a tragic past and just keeps having to face very difficult choices even though he means well. He can also be pretty tough, cool, and intimidating, which are more likable traits. His battle theme is also pretty awesome, so pluses all around. :)

Yeah, I lost to him a dozen times and had to stop just to take a break. It's definitely very hard and is quite challenging, but I'll give it another shot soon enough.

Lost about 7 or 8 more times to Sans, BUT I did get up to the part where he starts mentioning the "special attack," which I know, from having watched walkthrough videos, means there's not too much left after that (besides what I call the laser pinwheel of doom). The worst is how just one little slip can do so much damage.

I feel like video and voice recording me "not having a good time" (although I do have to kind of laugh at some of my blunders though). I'll try to make it funny and comical, and MAYBE I'll actually record myself pulling it off.

No, what keeps me in the void is that I cannot remain anchored to existence, no matter how hard I try. I can last up to a week in reality, but the longer I stay, the harder it is and the more I feel like I'm going to die from the exertion, and after a day I'm already fading even if I do pull myself together for the whole week. I mean, I'm already practically a ghost as is, and it's been less than three days. *pushes hand through a wall with no resistance* In three more days, I will stop holding myself together, and you will almost completely forget me until I gain enough power back to do it again, and I'll have to reintroduce myself for the nine hundred thousand and fifty sixth time and only spend a maximum of one week in reality again before the cycle starts over from there. I would very much enjoy being real again, but as I've told you every time you see me, you're wasting your time if you try. I wasted my life, and I don't want you to waste yours on me.

True, but there's also a point where you have to realize that what you are trying to do is not far enough within the realm of possibility yet to pursue it. The timeline jumping sets us back a lot, and since I actually can't do my own research anymore, you would have to extend your research further than both of us ever had before, probably in less time too. My research could be done at a leisurely pace, and to a degree so could yours, but this is a race against the clock and neither of us is prepared for that.

I tried recording, but for some reason, Bandicam doesn't work at all when I put the game on full screen. All I get is white, although I do get audio. It also tried to create a 42GB video before, which is just insane. o.O And... I think that means it's time to find a better game recorder. What do you tend to use for game recording, because I haven't been happy with Bandicam at all lately.

I did get up to the Pinwheel of Doom, but... eh heh... got fried by it. And that sucks, because I didn't have very much to go after that. >.<

Yeah most recording software doesn't capture the full screen because the recording software is set to record a window. In full screen your screen is white or black, but you see the main game on your end. In windowed mode or borderless window you literally keep the game set to a window (you can't even tell a difference between full screen or borderless window.

Yeah it took many many tries for me too, but once I had it down. Normally I could make it to phase 2 without getting hit. The end varied depending on how I reacted. The time I won I had 60 something hp left for his last move. Ended with 12hp too. Yeah Sans is too awesome to hate. Even after all you did, you just...can't hate him. Reminds me of one ending in the inFamous games (inFamous 2).

True, but there's also a point where you have to realize that what you are trying to do is not far enough within the realm of possibility yet to pursue it. The timeline jumping sets us back a lot, and since I actually can't do my own research anymore, you would have to extend your research further than both of us ever had before, probably in less time too. My research could be done at a leisurely pace, and to a degree so could yours, but this is a race against the clock and neither of us is prepared for that.

Well, the anagram for Asriel could've been a happy coincidence. The lore tells of an angel that would set all monsters free, and the symbol which represents said angel a) is worn by the Dreemurr family, including Asriel, and b) bears a resemblance to Asriel. With this in mind, Asriel is a corruption of the name Azrael, aka the archangel of death in some beliefs. And Asriel only takes on the form of this angel after killing everyone in the underground and becoming a god of death. So, it's religious, a combination of names, and an anagram and it all ties together.

I managed to get past the spinning heart locket a few times, but I didn't last too long after that (the knifes in the next attack are super-fast). I swear the hitbox for the center is larger than it should be. >.<

I got past the locket a few times, and past the knives once. I only made it to the third attack once, and died immediately because my first thought was to move and it was a blue attack.

So my college has this bell tower that if you take a certain elective you can learn how to play them. So they started playing Asgore's theme on the bells! I tried my best to record it but my parents were visiting so you can hear them talking but the bells come out pretty well over it all!

Well there's a class that allows you to do it, but yeah my parents literally started talking RIGHT AS I STARTED RECORDING.

We have:

Now, keep in mind, this is being done on a carilion, which means the guy playing this song has to control bells weighing anywhere between fifty and four hundred and fifty pounds. The notes only go... I think it's half an octave below middle C. So the songs are all very high pitched, but they still sound beautiful either way. So just enjoy this beautiful sample of what I get to hear while walking across campus sometimes.

Yep! He's also played Bonetrousle, Spear of Justice, and other non-Undertale songs like the Gravity Falls theme as well.

Most people who are new to campus actually think these are recordings! After a while they usually figure out it's a live person and just assume it's from a TV show, movie, or video game since it's not that uncommon to hear songs from Star Wars or Harry Potter.
