Health Update - Good News

Hello everyone! I'm back again, this time with good news! As the doodle above indicates, I've been officially discharged from the hospital and am back home in my new apartment. After two weeks, the doctors have ruled me stable enough to be on my own (mostly) so I'm currently resting and relaxing in somewhere much more comfortable than a hospital.


With that said, some general updates! I am hoping to get back to updating Shaymin Café and my other projects soon. I went about two weeks without drawing so I'm currently doing personal artwork to get warmed back up. That said, my current priority is getting my commission queue and Patreon backlog handled since my being sick sorta messed all that up. I can't promise when updates will resume, but I am eager to get back to my blogs and comics again once I can.


If you want details as to what all happened and how that'll impact my life going forward, I'll drop the details down below (warning for illness, hospitals, etc.), but I just want to say thank you all so much for your patience and the outpouring of support. It meant so much seeing all the love, comments, fanart, and more over these last few weeks. It really helped me keep going during the hardest times in the hospital and it means the world that everyone cared so much. So thank y'all so much and I hope to update again for you soon!

So what happened?

Well essentially the short but all encompassing explanation is, I've been diagnosed Granulomatosis with polyangiitis, which is a type of vasculitis that attacks your kidneys and lungs. When I went to the hospital for pneumonia, it wasn't any sort of virus that was attacking me, it was my own body. That was early onset GPA, where my body was attacking my lungs because they saw them as foreign invaders, but while in the hospital they switched gears to my kidneys instead.


Luckily they were able to catch it early but I'm now severally immunocompromised and have to be on steroids and other drugs for the next 6 months while I recover. I have to have minimal to no contact with the outside world because the drugs are going to wipe out all my antibodies in an attempt to get my body to stop trying to kill my kidneys.


All things considered, I am extremely fortunate to have made it out, and I'll have to make some major lifestyle changes to cope with this since there is no cure for GPA at this time. What this means for the future of this blog, I'm not sure, but I still plan to work on it and my other projects because I love them dearly and don't plan to let some B cells prevent me from expressing my passions.

    Fight on! I'm glad to hear you're out of the hospital and you're back home, even despite the drastic lifestyle changes. Sounds like you've been hanging onto a heck of a roller-coaster, but at least they've gotten to the root cause and have given you a plan of action.

    I also think it's cool that you're not giving up on any of your projects. Major life changes like this can easily derail those kinds of things, but it takes great perseverance to push through things like this as you refuse to let them stop you from what you are passionate about doing. That takes strength, commitment, and courage. :3

    Yeah! It's gonna be really rough at the start just because, especially sodium, is so so prevalent in my current diet. But my parents have been gracious enough to help me find substitutes and other options. It's just gonna take some getting used to since this is pretty much the rest of my life now.

    Yeah! Thinking about my ask blogs and other projects is part of what kept my spirits up in the hospital so I don't want to give them up because even if I can't necessarily dedicate the same amount of time to them as I used to, I still want to work on them. It might take me longer to work on them and progress, but I will work on them and hopefully other people will enjoy them too.

    @Noblejanobii It's good to hear that you're back home! I'm sorry you had to go to the hospital and suffer from GPA. :/ I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis, at least.
    I hope you can keep recovering, resting and relaxing at home. Good luck with your isolation and other lifestyle changes, as well as the Shaymin Café and your other projects. I wish you all the best. :)

    Thank you! Yeah the condition sucks but I'm glad to be home too. It's much more relaxing to address this from a home setting than a hospital, even if my sleep schedule is still fairly wonky.
