Remember when Pokemon use to show Japanese text?
You don’t? Perhaps that is because you watched the Pokemon dub when they remove all signs of Japanese text. Or maybe you watched it when Pokemon replace all text with the made up language made for the Pokemon anime.
Either way. The Pokemon anime use to have plenty of references to Japanese culture.
