    The Soloist Pokemon, #730, Primarina!

    Spoiler:
Damien Martel sighed as he sat down on a bench in the middle of Castelia City. His partner, Daikenki the samurott, sat down on the ground behind the bench, watching his friend closely. Damien’s attention was on a large screen on one of the buildings in the city. The Alola Popstar sensation, Kamiki, was in town. Damien had been a long time fan since first discovering her music, but when she finally toured outside of Alola, Damien had been unable to acquire a ticket. He had even traveled all the way from Humilau City just on the slim chance that there would be someone selling tickets on the streets. But, no dice.

Damien let out another long sigh and looked over his shoulder at his partner. Daikenki looked at disappointed as he did. Damien couldn’t blame him. Daikenki had been a dewott at the time, several years before. Damien had been going through a rough patch in life. His girlfriend had just left him after openly admitting she had been cheating on him, and then his brother was hospitalized after going into town to buy something to cheer Damien up and then being hit by a car. Damien had begun to think he was useless at the time, but just when his life was to be permanently sunk into darkness, Damien had discovered Kamiki. He wanted to pay her back now, for everything she did for him, even if she never realized she had done it in the first place. But that dream was starting to seem impossible to realize now.

“Come on, Daikenki, let’s see if we can catch the next ferry back to Humilau City. There’s no use waiting now. The concert’s probably over by now.” Daikenki stood up and nudged Damien with his snout. Damien smiled just a little and pat Daikenki’s nose. “I’m fine. Maybe next time she comes to Unova. Yeah?” Damien stood up and brushed off his blue jeans. Damien paused as he stared at his Kamiki themed shirt, the black and blue shirt being one of his favorites. Shrugging off his sadness, he and Daikenki began to walk towards the docks in Castelia. A cold breeze blew and Damien shivered, causing him to zip up his jacket. Approaching an intersection to cross to the docks. Damien tapped his foot a little as he waited and glanced to his left as he waited for the light to change. He saw a girl crossing the street out of the corner of his eye, and turned a little more.

She seemed so enamored with the big city, staring up at the skyline all around her. It was fascinating to watch, but the scene was quickly shattered when a car barreled through the intersection and turned suddenly. Damien reacted on instinct, running into the crosswalk and tackling the girl. The two tumbled to the sidewalk on the other side, Damien landing on top of the girl. People crowded around them, asking too many questions that Damien had a hard time hearing. His head was still spinning but Damien rolled off the stranger, not wanting to seem like a creep. Someone helped him stand up, Daikenki suddenly appearing by his side to help balance him. As Damien regained his senses, someone else helped the girl up.

“Are you okay?” he asked as the girl placed her hand on her head.

“Yes! I’m sorry I was not watching where I was going,” she replied, the vowels in her words sounding a bit over enunciated from her obvious Alolan accent. She quickly waved off everyone around her. “I’m fine, thank you, everyone. I appreciate your kindness!” The crowd moved on, but Damien remained where he was. Something about this young woman seemed oddly familiar. Damien couldn’t get a grasp on it, staring at her. Her face was mostly covered by her hoodie, the jacket zipped up to cover her nose and mouth. The only things Damien could see were her brilliant green eyes, her jet black hair, and her dark Alolan skin. She stared at the skyline again before noticing Damien had not moved on. She seemed a bit concerned. “A-Are you okay? Do you want payment for saving me? I can pay you or-”

“Oh no no! Nothing of the sort. You just… remind me of someone but I cannot place who.” This seemed to alarm the girl a bit more and she laughed a little nervously.

“Well it was a pleasure speaking with you. Thank you for saving me. Alola!” She quickly dashed off but Damien wasn’t about to let her go so easily.

“H-Hey! Wait a minute!” Damien reached out and grabbed hold of the girl’s arm. “You’re new to Castelia City, aren’t you?” Confusion showed in the girl’s eyes and she nodded slowly.

“How did you guess?” she asked quietly. Damien shrugged a little and gestured upward as he spoke.

“I could tell from the way you seem fascinated with the big city and how you weren’t watching for the traffic. It’s a mistake people who are new to the city make often. I did a lot when I was younger too.” Damien paused for a second then asked, “Would you like a tour since this is your first time? Or is there a specific place you’re looking for?” The girl paused, her green eyes reflecting the lights of the busy city as she pondered over Damien’s proposal. Finally, she nodded.

“Yes, that would be nice. I only get tonight to explore. I’m leaving tomorrow for Kalos so a tour would be nice!” She giggled a little then asked, “Uh… if you don’t mind… can you show me where they sell Castelia Cones? I’ve had some before but never from Castelia and I’ve heard the knock offs don’t do the originals justice.” Damien broke into a wide smile.

“You’ve heard correct! Come on, it’s on Mode Street!” Damien started off then paused and held out his hand. “My name’s Damien, what’s yours?” The girl looked down at Damien’s hand. She tentatively took it and shook it before answering,

“My friends call me Kiki!” Damien took Kiki’s hand and kissed it gently.

“Well it’s a pleasure to meet you, Kiki. Now come on, they only sell for a limited time!” Damien pulled Kiki along as they ran parallel to the docks. It wasn’t long before they reached Mode Street. Damien led Kiki into the line and began to fish out his wallet. He looked at Kiki as they waited. “How many do you want?”

“U-Uh… two please. But you don’t have to pay! I have money!” Damien waved off her comment.

“I brought a lot of money that ended up not being useful. At least now I’m putting it to good use!” Kiki seemed intrigued at the declaration but did not protest as Damien purchased four Castelia Cones. He led Kiki over to a bench where Daikenki was waiting. Damien held out one cone to his Samurott. The water type starter growled in happiness and took the cone. Damien looked back to Kiki to see her sending out a primarina. The soloist pokémon giggled a little at the stares from Damien and Daikenki. She took the Castelia Cone then motioned for Kiki to turn around. Kiki looked over her shoulder and glanced down sheepishly at the stares.

“A-Ah! Sorry you don't mind if Carlotta eats with us, do you?” she asked quietly. Damien quickly shook his head.

“Not at all. I've just never seen a primarina in person before. So you are from Alola then?” Damien asked as he sat down on the bench. Kiki sat down next to him and nodded a little.

“I grew up on Akala Island, the one with all the resorts on it. Carlotta has been my partner since I started my island trials when I was eleven.” Damien gave her a confused look causing Kiki to continue. “In Alola we don't have gyms we have island trials and Kahuna battles. You take it on when you're eleven and get to travel across various islands if you beat your island’s kahuna. I beat her but with Carlotta as my partner I had somewhat of an advantage.”

“So did you complete the trial?” Damien asked. Kiki shook her head.

“I got caught up in other things. I hope to one day be able to go back and complete it. I just needed to complete Poni Island’s trials. They're the most difficult though.” Kiki looked at Damien. “What about you? Have you taken on any gyms?” Damien nodded and dug into his pocket. He produced a small black case and opened it. Inside were two badges.

“I haven't gotten as far as you but I don't travel as much either. I've only gotten the Insect Badge and the Wave Badge, and that's because I've lived in the cities where the gyms are.” Damien smiled a bit. “Once I get enough money though I plan to take on the rest of the gyms! I'm not a strong enough trainer yet to survive on that alone so I have a part time job as a lifeguard and teaching kids how to swim back home.”

“Oh! So you're not from Castelia City then? You're so familiar with the city I just assumed…” Damien took a bite of his Castelia Cone and shook his head.

“I was born and lived her until I was twelve. Then I moved to Humilau City, on Unova’s east coast. Lots of water there and it's a nice city.” Damien looked up to see Kiki’s green eyes sparkling. He paused then asked, “I'm guessing you want to visit sometime?”

“It sounds like a little slice of Alola in Unova. It would be nice to see.” Damien chuckled and took another bite of his Castelia Cone.

“Well next time you're in Unova do come visit! I'll give you a tour and free surfing lessons.” Kiki lightly hit Damien’s shoulder.

“I can surf!” she protested, “I bet the waves are much more wild in Alola than here.” Damien mocked offense.

“How dare you! My city prides itself on its magnificent waves. I will not stand for this injustice.” The two quickly dissolved into laughter as they finished their Castelia Cones. Damien stood up and held his hand out to Kiki. “Anywhere else you want to stop by?” Kiki dug her toe into the ground as she remained on the bench.

“Hm… I heard there's an art museum, would that be all right?” Damien gave Kiki an affirming smile.

“Yes of course! It's just down the street.” Kiki took Damien’s hand followed him down the street, their partners close behind. Damien led Kiki into the free-admission museum. Kiki looked around excitedly at the pieces of art, some showing the tales of the legendary dragons, others of the Swords of Justice, and some being amateur artwork. Burgh’s work was featured as well but that was further inside the gallery.

“These are so beautiful,” Kiki whispered as they observed each painting. “What are these pokémon?” Damien looked up at the paintings telling the stories of the Twin Dragon Kings.

“These are the Great Dragons of Unova. Long ago, Unova was ruled by two kings,” Damien said, gesturing to the corresponding painting. “One was always cloaked in white and the other in black. They were fair and just rulers, one that valued truth and one that valued ideals. For many years, the land of Unova prospered under their rule, the blessing of the Original Dragon helping guide them. But, then one day, a debate arose between the two as to the role of pokémon in their world. The King of Truths declared all pokémon should be released, because they were being taken advantage of and not treated as equals. The King of Ideals countered that they were being treated as equals, that many viewed them as friends, family, and partners. For the first time in their reign, the kings could not agree, and their debate turned into a full fledged war. The land of Unova was soon covered in flames and lives were being put out left and right. Seeing that neither side of the war was winning, both kings plead their cases to the Original Dragon. The Original Dragon, unable to decide which side was right and which was wrong, split its soul into three parts. Using portions of the souls of the kings and merging them with the fractions of the soul of the Original Dragon, the Great Dragons known as Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem were born. Reshiram stood behind the king that represented truth and Zekrom behind the king that represented ideals. However, the two kings were overwhelmed with power, as they were empathetically linked with Reshiram and Zekrom. Raging out of control, they began to attack each other, and their own armies. What were once two enemy factions now banded together to fit the kings and their new dragons. Eventually, the sons of the two kings killed their fathers, and the great sages of the land sealed away Reshiram and Zekrom in the Light and Dark stones, respectively. Slowly, peace began to settle across Unova, and the land began to recover under the rule of the sons and the remanent of the Original Dragon, Kyurem. However, the seal was not as strong on the stones as the sages had thought, and so twenty years later, the dragon escaped. Still filled with fury of the now dead brother kings, the two dragons began to wreak havoc across the land once again. The two sons and Kyurem rose up to challenge the dragons again, but the dragons proved to be more powerful than before, their anger fueling them into an uncontrollable rampage. While Zekrom was sealed with relative ease, Reshiram supposedly put up a fight, mortally wounding the son of the King of Truth. With his dying breath, the son sealed the dragon of his father and then passed. Fraught with grief, the son of the King of Ideals disappeared from Unova. Legend has it that he hid away the stones so that the power of the Great Dragons could never be used for selfish reasons ever again and then faded away into history, with his final resting place supposedly being guarded by Kyurem itself.” Damien looked away from a painting of Kyurem in the and looked at Kiki. She was watching him with wide eyes, fascinated by his story. Damien flushed a little and chuckled nervously. “You like the story I assume?” he asked. Kiki nodded quickly.

“We don’t have stories like this in Alola. Just tales of the Tapus but they aren’t near as fascinating. Right, Carlotta?” Her primarina nodded her head a little before gesturing one of her fins towards a painting of the Swords of Justice. “You want to hear about them?” Damien turned around and smiled a little.

“Oh I know this one pretty well too. It’s one of Daikenki’s favorites! Right?” The samurott growled in agreement. Damien closed his eyes then gestured to the first painting, a portrait of Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion on a hill overlooking a forest. “Following the events of the first Great Unova War, many of the lands had been scarred forever. Mountains crushed, fields scorched, and forest shredded. Most of the land across Unova was unusable and people and pokémon alike were starving. People began to believe it would be the end of civilization, when one day three pokemon that became known as the Swords of Justice appeared. Virizion, the stag in green, restored the forests and fields, breathing life into them again and returning the homes of people and pokémon alike to their former glory. Terrakion, the bull of stone, reformed the mountains and made them even greater than before, creating passages in them for easier travel and trade between cities. Cobalion, the steel leader, helped return people and pokémon to their homes as well as return health to those who were injured. They were hailed as heroes amongst the people, and worshipped for many years to come. They even aided in the recovery of the second war as well, furthering their legacy. However, following the disappearance of the remaining son, war began to break out again across Unova. People sought the opinions of the Swords of Justice as to who they would pick as a leader. After searching far and wide, the three musketeers found someone they thought was best suited to rule, a man by the name of D'artagnan. At first, he was celebrated, but many were not satisfied with the selection, fearing that, just as the Original Dragon had caused the first two wars, the Swords of Justice would cause a third. And so, D'artagnan was attacked not long into his rule. The Swords of Justice were devastated and in a last ditch effort to save him, used their power to turn him into one of them, a pokémon that became known as Keldeo. Feeling betrayed by the very people that had spent many years trying to save, and when Unova needed them most, the Swords of Justice vanished. They were only ever seen again protecting pokémon in the war that following the attempt on D'artagnan’s life. Legend has it that you can still hear their cries in certain locations across Unova, and there are still sightings of them to this day.” Damien noticed at the end of this section of the gallery, there was a small photo at the end of the wall. He approached it and gasped quietly.

“What is it?” Kiki asked as she approached. Her eyes widened at the sight. It was the one Damien called Cobalion, perched on a hill, staring up into the sky. Damien recognized the location as being near Chargestone Cave, but to have actual photographic evidence of its existence was amazing. “Wow,” she whispered, “your region is so amazing.” She glanced off to the side and tugged on Damien’s arm. “I-I’m sorry… but it’s almost time for me to leave. I have one last request, if you’ll adhere to it.” Damien looked at the clock as well. It was nearly midnight! Where had the time gone?

“Of course, what else do you wish to see?” Kiki looked towards the street outside.

“As beautiful as Castelia City is, I didn’t see much greenery around here. Is there a park or something out here?” Damien frowned a little. This was going to be a bit hard to explain.

“Not… officially. There is one in the center of the city, but it’s mostly inaccessible because it’s underground. There is a way in, if you don’t mind getting dirty.” Kiki agreed to it and the two exited the museum. A few minutes later they were out by the docks again. Returning their partners to their pokeballs, Damien led Kiki into the sewers. It reeked but it was worth it if Kiki got to see this special sight. Few outside of Castelia natives knew the way to it, but it was a famous spot nonetheless. Leading Kiki through the maze that he still remembered by heart from almost a decade before, Damien led Kiki to a set of stairs far inside the sewers. “Stay close,” he warned as he kept a tight grip on her hand. Leading her up the stairs, light assaulted his eyes and made him squint reflexively. As they entered the secluded area, just a little bit of light could be seen entering from a manhole above the city. Kiki gasped loudly at the sight.

Underneath the city of Castelia lay a garden, a secluded park that was a common hangout for the natives. In the center was a tall tree that was home to many pokemon, including wild Eevee, one of the few locations of its kind. In addition, flowers bloomed everywhere. Kiki wandered closer to the tree then looked back at Damien.

“Is it okay for me to send out my partners?” Damien gave the nod as Kiki threw two pokeballs into the air. He unzipped and took off his jacket, the heat of the sewers starting to get to him. Did she always only carry two pokémon? Maybe the rest were just in the PC. Out of red light came Carlotta, the primarina looking around with a starry gaze of awe. The other pokemon was one Damien had never seen before. It was a dark blue and purple with a yellow ring around it. Two clouds seemed to float above it, and it had blue cheeks with yellow eyes. It was extremely small, and upon spotting Damien, it immediately fled behind Kiki’s legs.

“It’s okay, Rosette! This is Damien, he means us no harm. He brought me here.” Kiki looked at Damien for a second before her expression seemed to fall. Damien was perplexed, unsure what he had done to upset Kiki.

“Are you okay, Kiki? Is it the smell? Yeah it’s not the best. I’m used to it but I sometimes forget not everyone is when it’s their first time here. Happened to a lot of people when they first visited back when I lived her.” That didn’t seem to help. Kiki took one last look at the tree then started to walk towards the exit.

“Thank you for the tour,” she said, “but I really must be going.” Damien stepped towards her and reached for Kiki’s arm.

“Well at least let me guide you back so you don’t get lost.” Kiki slapped away Damien’s hand and glared at him.

“I’ll be fine on my own. Just leave me alone.” Now Damien was really confused. Was it something he had said?

“H-Hey! Wait a second!” Normally Damien wasn’t prone to being so forceful, but the sewers could be a very dangerous place if you got lost. Kiki needed a guide back desperately. “Kiki, please, tell me what’s wrong!” he protested, grabbing hold of Kiki’s arm. Kiki wrenched her arm from Damien’s grip and snarled at him,

“You only did this for me because you wanted my autograph or something didn’t you? Wanted a picture with me in the famous Castelia secret garden? Yeah? I can’t believe I thought you were being genuine for a while there! You really had me, Damien, you really did! But it was all just a ruse. I’m no idiot, Damien! No one makes a fool of Kamiki Palakiko! Especially not cheap bottom feeders like you. Not again.” Damien’s eyes widened in surprise. He quickly looked down at his shirt and then at the girl before him. How had he not seen it before? It was her! The Alolan superstar, Kamiki, had been touring Castelia City the whole night with him! Now he understood.

There had been an incident a few years back of a fan taking advantage of Kamiki’s trust. While nothing confirmed had been released about the incident, there had been rumors, and none of them were pretty. Ever since then, Kamiki was nowhere near as friendly or social with her friends. She still took photos, signed autographs, and visited fan fests, but no longer did she do favors for fans. Beyond the limited interactions, Kamiki never visited the social spotlight.

“Kiki,” Damien started, “I’m sorry. Please, don’t see me as that way. I know that I can’t convince you what I’m about to say is true, but… well to be candid, I didn’t recognize you. It’s actually quite shameful since I consider myself a big fan of yours but without all the stage makeup and fancy outfits, it never occurred to me who you were. I just saw a girl looking for a tour of Castelia City, one that I was happy to provide. My day hadn’t gone so well, and I didn’t want yours to follow the same path, so I was willing to do whatever I could for you. I’m sorry that it seems that I failed in that aspect. All I’ve ever wanted to do is thank you. Your music got me through one of the roughest parts of my life, and even though you’re mad at me, I can only hope my tour was a thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. I understand if you’re still mad, and even if you are, please, let me at least guide you through the sewers. It can be dangerous to navigate them alone, without a map. After we exit, we can go our separate ways. You never have to see me again. I don’t even have to visit one of your concerts if that is what you wish. Just… please Kiki, let me guide you out.”

Something in Kamiki’s expression relaxed. Damien seemed very genuine in his apology. Was it true? Had he really not known? Her eyebrows drew together. She remembered the comment he had made at the Castelia Cone stand and put it together with the bad day comment. Had he been trying to attend her concert and not been able to get in? Kamiki felt her anger slowly ebbing away as Damien continued his apology. It was a bit cliché, but Kamiki found she could no longer muster the energy to be mad at the young man. He had just been trying to give Kamiki the day of her life, not trick her into some selfish desire. She thought about the smile and sparkle in his blue eyes throughout the night, neither of which were present right now, and reached out to Damien. She touched his hand and offered a small smile.

“I believe you,” she answered after a moment, “I should be the one apologizing. I should not have doubted you. I just… saw your shirt and assumed the worst.” Damien’s expression indicated his understanding. “Please, Damien, forgive me. I had such a great time. I’m guessing you weren’t able to make it to my concert tonight, which is why you went out of your way to make my day.” Damien gave a small nod. Kamiki thought it over for a few minutes before saying, “There’s not much I can do. My flight leaves for Sinnoh tomorrow. I’m assuming you have to get home as soon as you can. But… maybe I can make a surprise stop in Humilau City on my way back to Alola?” Something in Damien’s expression brightened and he grinned.

“You would do that?” he asked, the excitement emanating from his voice.

“Of course! My manager may not be too happy, but we can visit, maybe do a quick concert, and then we’ll take you to Alola.” Damien’s expression quickly changed to surprise.

“Alola?” he repeated. Was she proposing to bring him to Alola?

“Yes, silly!” Kamiki replied with a giggle. “I have to return the favor for this tour after all! Plus the tour you’re going to have to give me in Humilau City! And I need to see you that the waves in Alola are so much better than the ones here.” Damien couldn’t believe it. He dearly hoped this wasn’t a dream.

Thus, with their conflict resolved, the two exited the sewers and reentered Castelia City. They walked back towards the intersection where they had first met, talking and enjoying what little time of each other’s company they had left. And as they approached the corner of their fateful tumble, a man called out to Kiki. Damien recognized him to be Kamiki’s manager. Before Damien could say goodbye, Kiki leaned up and kissed Damien’s cheek, pressing something into his hand, then dashing off towards her manager. They disappeared into the crowd, leaving behind a frozen Damien. After a moment, he slowly recovered and looked down at his hand. In it was a piece of paper with a phone number scribbled on it and the word “Alola!”

Also if you guys haven't yet you should check out my valentine's themed Primarina story. Some of those characters will be appearing as I catch up with other stories. You can see them all in canon chronological order on my Deviantart here. I bring this up because my Ferrothorn story will actually be taking place after my Bruxish story canon wise.

    ELECTRIC TERRAIN

    Shockingly intellectual
    Sendin rappers the clinical
Turnin the terrain into something near impeccable
    It's electrical
How my architecural bolts send the fakes and the dolts,
To the morgue with the jolts
Put on blast like a colt
With a smolt and im back
    Like a lightning attack
    And that's over

Elektrike, so fast like a jolt
Blazing through like his name is Usain Bolt
His volts shall strike a thrill

    For the 22nd:

    ---
    Spoiler:
The ravine looked idyllic from a distance, fertile and green and gushing with water; it surged with the bountiful life of nature and the liveliness of young Trainers intertwined about the waterfall. The tropical Hoenn heat made them all lethargic, and for the first time in ages it had decided not to rain here, so, saccharine-faced and streaked with sweat, they released their partners with the intention of battle for once removed firmly from their minds. The bravest tipped slowly down rocky slopes to join Marill and Makuhita splashing carelessly in the water. The shiest stayed onshore, giggling as their navigators gushed with poppy hits befitting of the summertime. In this region, you could feel the splendor of the beach anywhere.

Of course, the rangers were not positioned at the highest probable point on Route 119 to trust the railings and occasional sign of warning. They were stoic in spite of the sun; they could not afford to be anything else, less they lose sight of someone, for accidents were instantaneous. A suspicious passing of seconds without a conspicuous sight, a telling burst of color further downstream, a gurgling noise no well-adjusted Water-type would ever make.

Unit 29 had been diligent in scanning the deeper, distant areas in case of this exact instance, and in seconds, her shout had disbanded her peers and they descended upon the crowd of kids like a rain of bullets.

Multifarious flashes of light and they were at work, moving and barely thinking. Something crashed into the surface of the river—an explosion of water that snagged the Trainers' attention; their brows furrowed and their eyes widened, some's mouths falling open as a Floatzel conquered the constrictive current with ease, entirely foreign to them and dripping with water, a doused girl gasping powerfully in its arms. The sight wracked some, but before the screams could ring forth and the inevitable panic could ensue, there wafted in the smell of something flowery. Unit 8's Bellossom was immediately weaving in-between the crowd with the therapeutic Sweet Scent leaking from its scarlet flowers, and as it rocked and swayed, its smile became infectious, and almost deliriously, the Trainers collectively decided everything would be alright, at least in those first moments.

In the meantime, the branch leader was barking orders—[i]Unit 16, contact Fortree, we need paramedics, stat—but most importantly, they had all run into a devastating snag. Her Floatzel had long since dropped little Caroline, her body writhing and twitching as her face streamed with water from the river, moisture down her nose and from her eyes. She wasn't breathing; the tiny-framed Trainer thought she was, but her relentless panting, in reality, promoted only coughing, choking and ineluctably, even with the pleading units inches from her colorless face, she began hyperventilating and, soon, she had gone unconscious.

Paramedics had departed but the situation was sinking faster. Unit 22 pressed an ear against Caroline's chest and she resurfaced with the news that, "Her heart's stopped completely."

But they hadn't lost her yet, and they were never going to lose her, for the Hoenn Pokemon Ranger Department were trained to save every Trainer; they did not have to wait for explicit medical involvement in an emergency, and thus, before the ambulances could come catapulting in, Unit 14 was already in mid-sprint. He skid to his knees beside Caroline, a whistle embedded between his front teeth. One call and his partner blinked into existence, faster than perceptible. Two calls and their lime-green paws were kneading the grassy earth, each press with the snap of a lighter—click, click, click—before their hind legs eventually landed on Caroline's torso. In the dwindling seconds, he did not confirm Twenty-Two's claim. With sweat cascading down his forehead and rubber gloves protecting his hands, Unit 14 slid his Elektrike's paws into the correct position; they laid over her heart. The whistle dropped from his lips. "CLEAR!"

Everyone in the proximate area had leapt back in anticipation in the fulmination of raw electricity, pulsing from Elektrike's paws, thundering through the girl. Like lightning; it was over as instantaneously as it had been incited, and the Elektrike appeared off of Caroline with the same swiftness, the girl jerking upwards and half-consciously swatting at its muzzle while it rapturously licked her ghostly face. From the look in her protuberant eyes, she seemed thoroughly shocked, though the humor was not shared by the Fortree medical team when they did arrive as if on some ironic cue after the action of reviving her had been carried out. No authorized equipment, licensing, or permission; they had saved a life, but at what cost to Caroline, too? The rangers, in their relief, brushed the concerns posed by the paramedics aside as entirely begrudging. The girl was whisked away for extensive medical assistance, and with the peace obliterated, the Trainers sought immediate refuge for higher ground. It would be only momentarily that the rangers would have to trail them, but in the brief respite the kids' withdrawal allowed, they could at least make use of the water and sweltering weather briefly in their wake.

A lovely Secret Santa gift year round!
